the_o opinion_n of_o man_n with_o which_o we_o be_v still_o ready_a to_o be_v mislead_v so_o that_o when_o the_o scripture_n say_v of_o riches_n that_o they_o be_v nothing_o whereas_o before_o thou_o think_v they_o to_o be_v a_o strong_a tower_n now_o you_o think_v they_o to_o be_v but_o a_o staff_n of_o reed_n so_o of_o sinful_a lust_n that_o be_v so_o pleasant_a to_o we_o the_o scripture_n say_v of_o they_o that_o they_o fight_v against_o the_o soul_n though_o they_o be_v sweet_a for_o the_o present_a yet_o they_o be_v sour_a in_o the_o latter_a end_n so_o that_o thou_o take_v the_o one_o of_o they_o that_o have_v a_o part_n in_o he_o i_o know_v that_o i_o have_v fulfil_v the_o condition_n as_o that_o i_o shall_v not_o continue_v willing_o in_o any_o know_a sin_n that_o i_o shall_v love_v the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o desire_v to_o serve_v he_o above_o all_o i_o know_v that_o i_o have_v fulfil_v these_o condition_n i_o say_v if_o the_o ground_n whereon_o our_o faith_n be_v the_o part_n of_o it_o though_o the_o slander_n by_o may_v be_v ignorant_a of_o it_o as_o for_o example_n he_o that_o make_v a_o statue_n know_v how_o every_o particle_n be_v make_v he_o that_o make_v a_o watch_n or_o any_o ordinary_a work_n of_o art_n he_o know_v all_o the_o juncture_n all_o the_o wheel_n and_o commissure_v of_o it_o or_o else_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o he_o shall_v make_v it_o now_o all_o these_o that_o have_v a_o hand_n in_o make_v of_o man_n know_v not_o the_o make_n of_o he_o not_o the_o father_n nor_o the_o mother_n nor_o that_o which_o we_o call_v the_o raise_v it_o be_v he_o that_o know_v it_o for_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v it_o and_o this_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a by_o which_o we_o prove_v that_o thing_n be_v make_v and_o have_v not_o their_o original_n from_o themselves_o the_o second_o be_v if_o thing_n be_v not_o make_v then_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o they_o must_v have_v a_o be_v from_o themselves_o go_n now_o to_o have_v a_o be_v from_o itself_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o be_v god_n for_o it_o be_v a_o inseparable_a property_n of_o god_n to_o have_v his_o be_v from_o himself_o now_o if_o you_o will_v acknowledge_v you_o take_v a_o house_n or_o any_o work_n or_o instrument_n that_o man_n make_v therefore_o it_o have_v a_o end_n because_o he_o that_o make_v it_o propound_v such_o a_o end_n to_o himself_o but_o no_o form_n for_o the_o form_n and_o fashion_n of_o every_o thing_n arise_v only_o from_o the_o end_n which_o the_o maker_n propound_v to_o himself_o as_o for_o example_n the_o reason_n why_o a_o knife_n have_v such_o a_o fashion_n be_v because_o it_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o maker_n to_o have_v it_o a_o instrument_n to_o cut_v with_o the_o reason_n why_o a_o axe_n or_o hatchet_n have_v another_o fashion_n be_v because_o it_o may_v be_v a_o instrument_n to_o chap_v with_o and_o the_o reason_n why_o a_o key_n have_v another_o fashion_n different_a from_o these_o be_v because_o the_o maker_n propound_v to_o himself_o another_o end_n in_o make_v of_o it_o namely_o to_o open_a lock_n with_o these_o be_v all_o make_v of_o the_o same_o
he_o can_v change_v it_o sudden_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o god_n he_o can_v alter_v a_o thing_n as_o easy_o to_o the_o left_a hand_n as_o to_o the_o right_n and_o that_o in_o a_o instant_n object_n but_o what_o dependence_n be_v there_o between_o thing_n do_v we_o not_o see_v strange_a thing_n come_v to_o pass_v that_o we_o can_v see_v no_o reason_n for_o as_o the_o church_n overthrow_v the_o godly_a afflict_a the_o wicked_a exalt_v answ._n well_o say_v the_o lord_n this_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v further_o that_o one_o wheel_n be_v within_o another_o and_o the_o wing_n of_o the_o diligent_a many_o time_n come_v to_o poverty_n the_o wise_a do_v often_o miscarry_v in_o bring_v their_o enterprise_n to_o pass_v answ._n 2_o though_o the_o immediate_a cause_n produce_v the_o effect_n yet_o who_o be_v the_o first_o cause_n as_o for_o example_n though_o folly_n be_v the_o cause_n that_o such_o a_o business_n do_v miscarry_v yet_o who_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o folly_n of_o he_o be_v indeed_o the_o word_n of_o god._n this_o use_n we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o it_o that_o it_o may_v not_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o we_o it_o shall_v teach_v we_o to_o confirm_v this_o first_o principle_n and_o make_v it_o sure_a see_v all_o the_o rest_n be_v build_v upon_o it_o therefore_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o weigh_v it_o that_o we_o may_v give_v full_a consent_n to_o it_o and_o not_o a_o weak_a one_o object_n but_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o principle_n that_o need_v not_o to_o be_v thus_o urge_v or_o make_v question_n of_o therefore_o what_o need_v so_o many_o reason_n to_o prove_v it_o answ._n even_o the_o strong_a among_o we_o have_v still_o need_v to_o increase_v our_o faith_n in_o this_o point_n and_o therefore_o we_o have_v cause_n to_o attend_v to_o it_o and_o that_o for_o these_o two_o reason_n reason_n because_o these_o principle_n though_o they_o be_v so_o common_a 1._o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o saint_n principle_n and_o that_o with_o which_o common_a man_n believe_v they_o the_o difference_n be_v in_o these_o four_o thing_n both_o of_o they_o do_v believe_v and_o they_o speak_v as_o they_o think_v yet_o you_o shall_v find_v this_o difference_n a_o regenerate_a man_n have_v a_o further_a and_o a_o deep_a insight_n into_o these_o truth_n he_o give_v a_o more_o through_o and_o a_o strong_a assent_n to_o they_o 1._o but_o another_o man_n give_v a_o more_o slight_a and_o overly_o assent_n that_o faith_n with_o which_o they_o believe_v they_o be_v a_o faith_n that_o want_v depth_n of_o earth_n therefore_o if_o any_o strong_a temptation_n come_v upon_o they_o as_o fear_v of_o be_v put_v to_o death_n etc._n etc._n they_o be_v soon_o shake_v off_o and_o do_v often_o fall_v away_o when_o they_o be_v put_v to_o it_o they_o shrink_v away_o in_o time_n of_o persecution_n for_o their_o faith_n want_v depth_n of_o earth_n that_o be_v the_o assent_n they_o give_v to_o the_o scripture_n be_v but_o a_o overly_o and_o superficial_a assent_n it_o do_v not_o take_v deep_a root_n in_o their_o soul_n and_o therefore_o it_o wither_v in_o time_n of_o temptation_n they_o do_v not_o so_o ponder_v they_o as_o other_o do_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o so_o ground_v in_o these_o first_o principle_n as_o other_o be_v though_o they_o have_v some_o hold_n 〈◊〉_d yet_o not_o so_o great_a a_o hold_n as_o the_o godly_a have_v so_o as_o they_o be_v not_o so_o firm_o establish_v so_o ground_v in_o the_o present_a truth_n they_o be_v not_o so_o root_v as_o the_o saint_n be_v 2._o that_o which_o breed_v this_o assent_n in_o they_o be_v but_o a_o common_a gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o that_o with_o which_o the_o saint_n believe_v they_o be_v a_o special_a grace_n infuse_v wrought_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n now_o that_o which_o have_v a_o weak_a cause_n must_v needs_o have_v a_o weak_a effect_n that_o which_o be_v wrought_v by_o a_o common_a can_v be_v so_o strong_a a_o assent_n as_o that_o which_o be_v wrought_v by_o a_o infuse_a habit_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v strong_a than_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o saint_n the_o regenerate_a man_n 3_o build_v their_o hope_n comfort_n and_o happiness_n upon_o the_o truth_n of_o these_o principle_n as_o that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n that_o rule_v heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n and_o whatsoever_o be_v in_o they_o be_v truth_n they_o build_v all_o upon_o these_o therefore_o if_o any_o doubt_n arise_v they_o can_v never_o be_v at_o rest_n till_o faith_n have_v resolve_v they_o and_o wrought_v they_o out_o with_o another_o man_n it_o be_v not_o so_o he_o take_v these_o thing_n upon_o trust_n and_o believe_v they_o as_o other_o do_v but_o he_o do_v not_o much_o trouble_v himself_o about_o they_o and_o therefore_o if_o any_o doubt_n come_v against_o they_o he_o suffer_v they_o to_o lie_v there_o and_o go_v on_o in_o a_o careless_a manner_n but_o with_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v not_o so_o they_o build_v their_o hope_n upon_o they_o do_v therefore_o resolve_v to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n for_o god_n they_o will_v be_v content_a to_o lose_v all_o for_o he_o if_o occasion_n require_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v upon_o sure_a ground_n but_o the_o other_o they_o do_v but_o receive_v upon_o trust_n and_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o cleave_v to_o he_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o the_o saint_n do_v regenerate_v man_n have_v a_o lively_a and_o experimental_a knowledge_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n 4._o and_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n from_o the_o communion_n that_o they_o have_v have_v with_o this_o god_n and_o from_o the_o experience_n they_o have_v have_v of_o the_o truth_n deliver_v in_o the_o scripture_n they_o know_v very_o well_o and_o that_o experimental_o what_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o what_o they_o be_v once_o and_o what_o they_o be_v now_o what_o it_o be_v to_o envy_v the_o saint_n and_o what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v a_o affection_n of_o love_n to_o they_o they_o know_v the_o time_n when_o they_o slight_v sin_n when_o they_o make_v no_o reckon_n of_o it_o they_o know_v again_o the_o bitterness_n and_o sorrow_n of_o sin_n when_o the_o commandment_n come_v and_o show_v it_o unto_o they_o in_o its_o colour_n they_o know_v a_o time_n when_o they_o judge_v perverse_o of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n when_o they_o have_v a_o bad_a opinion_n of_o they_o and_o how_o now_o they_o be_v change_v beside_o they_o know_v how_o that_o once_o they_o do_v admire_v and_o magnify_v worldly_a excellency_n and_o preferment_n but_o since_o they_o be_v enlighten_v their_o opinion_n be_v otherwise_o i_o say_v they_o know_v all_o this_o experimental_o take_v the_o whole_a work_n of_o regeneration_n they_o know_v it_o in_o themselves_o and_o so_o for_o god_n himself_o as_o he_o be_v describe_v in_o the_o scripture_n such_o have_v they_o find_v he_o to_o themselves_o now_o where_o a_o man_n do_v know_v thing_n thus_o experimental_o it_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n than_o that_o which_o be_v by_o hearsay_n so_o that_o though_o there_o be_v a_o belief_n in_o they_o both_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o they_o 2._o we_o must_v labour_v to_o confirm_v our_o faith_n in_o these_o principle_n because_o they_o be_v of_o exceed_v great_a moment_n and_o consequence_n in_o the_o life_n of_o man_n life_n though_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v remote_a yet_o they_o be_v of_o more_o moment_n than_o any_o other_o as_o of_o a_o house_n you_o see_v a_o fair_a top_n but_o yet_o the_o foundation_n be_v of_o more_o moment_n and_o that_o can_v be_v see_v the_o stream_n be_v see_v but_o the_o wellhead_n
