they_o and_o their_o desire_n and_o love_n to_o these_o put_v they_o upon_o many_o unlovely_a strain_n to_o compass_v they_o in_o a_o word_n they_o love_v to_o please_v and_o to_o be_v please_v of_o man_n and_o to_o have_v all_o thing_n go_v on_o smooth_o with_o they_o and_o here_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n and_o their_o will_n fall_v cross_a his_o honour_n to_o be_v by_o they_o uphold_v in_o a_o close_o follow_v of_o he_o and_o the_o uphold_v of_o their_o own_o honour_n among_o man_n clash_n christ_n spiritual_a interest_n and_o their_o carnal_a interest_n will_v not_o consist_v but_o one_o must_v give_v way_n if_o they_o will_v please_v the_o lord_n they_o must_v many_o time_n displease_v themselves_o and_o other_o too_o and_o to_o enjoy_v his_o love_n and_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n must_v be_v content_a to_o be_v without_o much_o and_o sometime_o to_o loose_v all_o those_o worldly_a accommodation_n which_o the_o flesh_n prize_v very_o much_o and_o however_o the_o man_n and_o this_o their_o character_n who_o be_v the_o hearer_n and_o professor_n of_o the_o word_n of_o the_o gospel_n resemble_v by_o the_o thorny_a ground_n which_o as_o i_o intimate_v before_o faith_n of_o the_o stony-ground_n hearer_n be_v say_v to_o be_v his_o faith_n may_v give_v in_o and_o fail_v as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o for_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o stony-ground_n hearer_n faith_n fail_v he_o be_v because_o it_o be_v not_o root_v and_o ground_v in_o love_n he_o love_v his_o honour_n his_o estate_n his_o relation_n or_o at_o least_o his_o life_n more_o than_o christ_n he_o to_o christ_n though_o in_o danger_n of_o lose_v all_o in_o this_o world_n but_o he_o then_o be_v his_o fear_n of_o lose_v all_o for_o his_o sake_n to_o cause_v he_o to_o desert_n he_o if_o fear_n in_o this_o kind_n do_v arise_v in_o the_o soul_n &_o work_v trouble_n &_o torment_v there_o and_o fill_v the_o heart_n with_o division_n of_o thought_n and_o some_o degree_n of_o feebleness_n and_o faint_v for_o a_o little_a time_n yet_o by_o that_o time_n love_v to_o christ_n have_v but_o muster_v up_o its_o force_n and_o call_v in_o and_o strengthen_v itself_o with_o consideration_n near_o at_o hand_n and_o ready_a to_o offer_v themselves_o to_o such_o a_o one_o service_n fear_n be_v drive_v out_o of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o tumult_n which_o fear_n have_v cause_v there_o be_v appease_v the_o storm_n lay_v and_o all_o thing_n reduce_v unto_o a_o peaceable_a calm_n and_o then_o love_n begin_v to_o triumph_v and_o to_o say_v who_o shall_v separate_v i_o from_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n rom._n 8.35_o but_o if_o a_o man_n so_o fear_v as_o that_o his_o fear_n drive_v he_o from_o his_o duty_n hurry_v he_o into_o act_n of_o disloyalty_n to_o his_o lord_n and_o put_v he_o upon_o disgrace_n christ_n and_o his_o truth_n such_o a_o man_n love_n to_o christ_n whatever_o otherwise_o it_o may_v be_v be_v not_o according_a to_o saint_n john_n phrase_n make_v perfect_a he_o that_o fear_v be_v not_o make_v perfect_a in_o love_n his_o love_n be_v not_o of_o the_o perfect_a and_o right_a kind_n but_o where_o love_n to_o christ_n be_v prevalent_a and_o predominant_a there_o it_o be_v strong_a as_o death_n cant._n 8.6_o which_o we_o know_v be_v so_o strong_a that_o all_o the_o opposition_n that_o man_n by_o their_o wit_n and_o wealth_n policy_n and_o power_n can_v make_v against_o it_o will_v not_o turn_v it_o out_o of_o its_o way_n of_o which_o conquer_a strength_n in_o love_n proof_n have_v be_v make_v many_o and_o many_o a_o time_n by_o the_o faithful_a martyr_n of_o jesus_n who_o love_n to_o he_o have_v hold_v it_o out_o against_o all_o manner_n of_o enticement_n and_o allurement_n on_o the_o one_o hand_n and_o all_o the_o variety_n of_o the_o most_o horrid_a and_o dreadful_a torment_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n which_o the_o wit_n and_o malice_n of_o man_n assist_v by_o the_o policy_n and_o rage_n of_o hell_n can_v invent_v whereby_o to_o take_v they_o off_o their_o entireness_n of_o affection_n to_o their_o redeemer_n many_o water_n can_v quench_v love_n neither_o can_v the_o flood_n drown_v it_o if_o a_o man_n will_v give_v all_o the_o substance_n of_o his_o house_n for_o love_n it_o will_v utter_o be_v contemn_v cant._n 8.7_o neither_o do_v this_o love_n to_o christ_n when_o thus_o prove_v only_o conquer_v and_o bare_o get_v the_o victory_n over_o the_o world_n as_o it_o do_v when_o it_o hold_v its_o own_o against_o all_o its_o attempt_n 1_o john_n 5.4_o but_o it_o make_v a_o christian_a more_o than_o conqueror_n when_o his_o love_n &_o how_o his_o soul_n be_v as_o it_o be_v more_o knit_v to_o he_o for_o he_o do_v not_o only_o say_v that_o he_o will_v love_v he_o but_o that_o he_o will_v manifest_v himself_o to_o he_o viz._n in_o clear_a discovery_n of_o his_o love_n than_o former_o which_o we_o know_v too_o be_v wont_v great_o to_o increase_v the_o christian_n love_n to_o the_o lord_n so_o that_o sincere_a love_n to_o the_o lord_n when_o it_o be_v thus_o put_v upon_o the_o trial_n do_v not_o only_o cast_v out_o fear_n but_o do_v more_o too_o it_o gather_v and_o contract_v a_o additional_a strength_n and_o increase_n which_o consideration_n that_o love_n do_v not_o only_o cast_v out_o fear_n in_o the_o time_n of_o fear_n but_o prefer_v a_o man_n both_o in_o the_o lord_n love_v to_o he_o and_o in_o his_o own_o love_n to_o the_o lord_n serve_v not_o only_o for_o a_o proof_n and_o trial_n of_o the_o sincerity_n of_o our_o faith_n which_o yet_o be_v one_o thing_n which_o it_o do_v for_o it_o be_v faith_n have_v the_o proof_n and_o evidence_n both_o of_o your_o faith_n and_o love_n and_o of_o your_o faith_n by_o your_o love_n come_v fair_o out_o so_o take_v heed_n of_o all_o undue_a and_o carnal_a compliance_n with_o worldly-minded_n man_n either_o in_o say_v or_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v bear_v hard_a upon_o the_o honour_n and_o interest_n of_o christ_n his_o people_n ordinance_n or_o
