faith_n be_v before_o repentance_n as_o the_o fountain_n be_v before_o the_o stream_n but_o it_o be_v object_v that_o the_o order_n of_o scripture_n do_v set_v repentance_n before_o faith_n so_o in_o preach_v mark_v 1.15_o mat._n 3.2_o luke_n 3.3_o act_n 2.38_o &_o 3.19_o and_o repentance_n be_v require_v as_o the_o qualification_n which_o must_v entitle_v to_o the_o promise_n remission_n of_o privilege_n be_v propound_v unto_o repentance_n as_o a_o qualification_n obvious_a to_o our_o sense_n and_o evidence_v our_o faith_n faith_n and_o election_n must_v be_v know_v à _fw-la posteriori_fw-la by_o their_o effect_n repentance_n and_o vocation_n and_o therefore_o be_v mention_v after_o they_o for_o though_o we_o believe_v before_o we_o repent_v we_o repent_v before_o we_o know_v that_o we_o do_v believe_v rule_n 3_o 3._o misapprehension_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o grace_n do_v easy_o lead_v into_o a_o mistake_n of_o the_o order_n of_o grace_n such_o as_o deem_v common_a illumination_n and_o conviction_n to_o be_v repentance_n and_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n joy_n and_o peace_n to_o be_v the_o formality_n of_o faith_n may_v very_o well_o place_n repentance_n before_o faith_n but_o such_o as_o understand_v the_o acceptance_n of_o christ_n in_o order_n to_o pardon_v to_o be_v true_a and_o save_a faith_n and_o a_o cease_n from_o sin_n and_o serious_a application_n of_o ourselves_o to_o piety_n to_o be_v the_o formality_n of_o repentance_n will_v plain_o see_v that_o faith_n unite_n we_o to_o christ_n and_o derive_v to_o we_o the_o efficacy_n of_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n that_o we_o may_v be_v holy_a do_v precede_n and_o must_v needs_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o true_a repentance_n let_v i_o then_o dismiss_v this_o rule_n with_o this_o note_n or_o observation_n note_n note_n faith_n in_o its_o existence_n and_o essential_a act_n but_o without_o its_o reflection_n fruit_n and_o effect_n be_v the_o foundation_n and_o fountain_n of_o true_a repentance_n such_o therefore_o on_o the_o one_o hand_n as_o apprehend_v and_o assent_v unto_o the_o history_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v sometime_o affect_v with_o and_o afflict_v for_o their_o sin_n but_o do_v not_o accept_v of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o tender_v to_o be_v lord_n and_o saviour_n do_v fix_v their_o engine_n too_o low_o to_o force_v the_o water_n of_o repentance_n into_o the_o soul_n yet_o this_o devil_n faith_n may_v produce_v a_o judas_n repentance_n for_o a_o hypocritical_a repentance_n be_v the_o result_n of_o a_o historical_a faith_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n he_o that_o seek_v assurance_n of_o his_o sin_n pardon_v as_o a_o argument_n of_o repentance_n make_v the_o effect_n both_o cause_n and_o effect_n and_o conclude_v himself_o into_o a_o condition_n not_o need_v repentance_n whilst_o he_o pretend_v to_o enforce_v it_o but_o the_o true_a frame_n of_o a_o gospel_n penitent_n be_v by_o save_a faith_n to_o see_v salvation_n through_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n our_o saviour_n extend_v to_o sinner_n himself_o not_o exclude_v and_o so_o close_v with_o accept_v of_o and_o appropriate_v to_o himself_o the_o general_a tender_n of_o himself_o his_o aim_v at_o happiness_n be_v attain_v and_o shall_v with_o certainty_n be_v possess_v and_o so_o he_o experience_v in_o himself_o and_o evidence_v unto_o all_o other_o that_o the_o
