they_o and_o stir_v the_o conscience_n and_o lay_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n home_o upon_o it_o how_o long_o be_v they_o before_o they_o can_v have_v any_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n and_o in_o just_a shall_v reason_v thus_o well_o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o mystery_n in_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o god_n when_o he_o pardon_v sin_n at_o first_o lay_v in_o a_o pardon_n for_o all_o sin_n afterward_o this_o will_v make_v way_n for_o more_o sin_n take_v notice_n here_o of_o the_o infinite_a perverseness_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n suppose_v it_o be_v not_o thus_o but_o the_o contrary_n be_v true_a that_o god_n indeed_o pardon_v the_o sin_n of_o a_o believer_n come_v to_o he_o but_o if_o ever_o he_o sin_n after_o pardon_n let_v he_o look_v to_o it_o he_o shall_v then_o be_v under_o the_o sentence_n of_o death_n and_o condemnation_n upon_o this_o a_o man_n heart_n will_v not_o be_v more_o engage_v to_o seek_v after_o christ_n but_o will_v reason_v thus_o well_o i_o may_v labour_v and_o take_v pain_n and_o suffer_v much_o to_o get_v a_o comfortable_a assurance_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o what_o of_o all_o this_o the_o next_o day_n the_o next_o hour_n i_o may_v sin_v again_o and_o be_v in_o the_o same_o case_n i_o be_v before_o so_o that_o which_o way_n soever_o thing_n go_v man_n will_v reason_v against_o god_n for_o their_o lust_n i_o shall_v fullness_n of_o god_n alas_o when_o i_o be_v under_o the_o law_n god_n and_o i_o be_v stranger_n i_o feel_v little_a of_o god_n in_o i_o but_o now_o i_o begin_v to_o know_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n i_o begin_v to_o have_v my_o soul_n fill_v with_o fullness_n of_o god_n not_o with_o chaff_n and_o dross_n and_o filthy_a thing_n which_o heretofore_o my_o thought_n will_n and_o affection_n be_v fill_v withal_o but_o now_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o i_o my_o soul_n be_v now_o fill_v with_o all_o the_o fullness_n of_o god_n certain_o that_o soul_n that_o can_v say_v thus_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o we_o be_v strengthen_v and_o can_v glory_v in_o tribulation_n our_o heart_n grow_v up_o to_o that_o strength_n that_o whatsoever_o tribulation_n we_o meet_v withal_o we_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v they_o with_o patience_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o to_o glory_n in_o they_o we_o not_o only_o grow_v up_o to_o bear_v that_o which_o many_o can_v but_o to_o rejoice_v in_o they_o that_o be_v more_o and_o then_o to_o glory_n be_v above_o rejoice_v now_o do_v you_o find_v that_o the_o assurance_n that_o you_o have_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n bring_v strength_n in_o to_o your_o soul_n to_o enable_v you_o to_o rejoice_v in_o hope_n of_o the_o glory_n to_o come_v as_o if_o the_o apostle_n have_v say_v let_v what_o will_v become_v of_o we_o for_o the_o present_a what_o though_o the_o world_n scorn_v we_o hate_n persecute_v we_o yet_o we_o rejoice_v in_o hope_n of_o the_o glory_n that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o this_o make_v we_o glory_n in_o tribulation_n know_v that_o tribulation_n work_v patience_n patience_n experience_n and_o experience_n hope_v here_o be_v a_o work_n of_o several_a grace_n together_o and_o this_o may_v help_v many_o a_o poor_a soul_n o_o say_v the_o soul_n at_o such_o a_o time_n i_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o much_o joy_n thereupon_o but_o have_v not_o hypocrite_n joy_n yes_o certain_o a_o hypocrite_n may_v have_v wonderful_a ravishment_n of_o spirit_n and_o flash_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v somewhat_o want_v in_o other_o grace_n but_o how_o shall_v i_o know_v that_o my_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n be_v right_a thus_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n you_o have_v of_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n you_o have_v a_o answerable_a degree_n in_o the_o growth_n of_o other_o grace_n as_o humility_n patience_n heavenly-mindedness_a self-denial_n and_o the_o rest_n according_a as_o your_o faith_n grow_v so_o you_o have_v a_o proportionable_a growth_n in_o all_o other_o grace_n faith_n be_v as_o the_o root_n and_o the_o more_o sap_n there_o be_v in_o the_o root_n the_o more_o will_v the_o branch_n grow_v those_o people_n that_o be_v so_o full_a of_o assurance_n and_o never_o doubt_v as_o they_o say_v but_o as_o for_o other_o grace_n they_o be_v empty_a as_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n meekness_n patience_n self-denial_n heavenly-mindedness_a and_o the_o like_a certain_o if_o thy_o faith_n be_v so_o high_a and_o thy_o other_o grace_n so_o low_a thou_o have_v much_o cause_n to_o fear_v thy_o faith_n be_v not_o right_a it_o be_v not_o the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_n as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v it_o be_v not_o precious_a faith_n for_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n you_o have_v of_o that_o all_o other_o grace_n will_v grow_v you_o hope_v that_o your_o sin_n be_v pardon_v how_o come_v you_o by_o it_o the_o soul_n that_o have_v true_a pardon_n of_o sin_n have_v fetch_v it_o it_o from_o heaven_n speak_v ill_a of_o god_n way_n and_o thou_o stand_v speak_v and_o have_v not_o a_o word_n to_o say_v for_o god_n and_o his_o way_n do_v thou_o think_v god_n have_v justify_v thou_o and_o do_v thou_o hear_v god_n and_o his_o people_n and_o his_o word_n reproach_v and_o thou_o have_v not_o a_o heart_n to_o justify_v god_n ten_o and_o last_o those_o who_o god_n pardon_v and_o forgive_v he_o put_v in_o they_o a_o merciful_a frame_n of_o heart_n to_o forgive_v other_o and_o that_o upon_o divine_a ground_n there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o natural_a forgiveness_n many_o will_v forgive_v but_o it_o be_v as_o a_o heathen_a forgive_v another_o and_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o many_o that_o profess_v themselves_o christian_n that_o they_o do_v not_o go_v so_o far_o but_o you_o must_v forgive_v in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n for_o that_o be_v the_o way_n that_o accompany_v pardon_v of_o sin_n to_o forgive_v because_o i_o have_v have_v more_o forgive_v such_o a_o one_o have_v offend_v i_o but_o how_o much_o more_o have_v i_o offend_v the_o lord_n and_o if_o the_o lord_n forgive_v i_o ought_v not_o i_o to_o forgive_v he_o you_o know_v in_o the_o gospel_n he_o that_o have_v so_o many_o talent_n forgive_v he_o and_o afterward_o go_v and_o take_v his_o brother_n by_o the_o throat_n how_o ill_o the_o lord_n take_v it_o that_o have_v forgive_v he_o so_o much_o he_o shall_v exact_v of_o his_o brother_n the_o utmost_a farthing_n have_v god_n forgive_v thou_o thy_o sin_n which_o have_v he_o not_o it_o will_v have_v everlasting_o chain_v thou_o in_o torment_n and_o will_v not_o thou_o make_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v of_o a_o sweet_a mild_a gentle_a kind_a and_o tender_a frame_n observe_v this_o you_o that_o have_v rugged_a nature_n you_o say_v it_o be_v nature_n and_o you_o can_v help_v it_o if_o any_o thing_n change_v it_o it_o be_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v thy_o sin_n be_v there_o not_o so_o much_o in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v thy_o sin_n as_o to_o change_v that_o rugged_a nature_n of_o thou_o certain_o there_o be_v else_o thou_o have_v little_a hope_n that_o thy_o sin_n be_v pardon_v therefore_o if_o god_n have_v pardon_v thou_o thou_o must_v go_v and_o do_v so_o likewise_o i_o be_o persuade_v many_o of_o you_o hope_v it_o and_o long_v for_o this_o sermon_n sermon_n and_o i_o desire_v to_o be_v the_o large_a because_o i_o will_v without_o that_o i_o be_o afraid_a there_o be_v many_o to_o who_o the_o consolation_n of_o this_o text_n and_o point_n belong_v to_o will_v go_v away_o with_o little_a comfort_n because_o they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o apply_v they_o and_o that_o be_v to_o give_v some_o rule_n how_o to_o make_v use_n of_o these_o sign_n and_o be_v able_a to_o apply_v they_o and_o by_o the_o same_o rule_v you_o may_v come_v to_o know_v any_o other_o note_n of_o trial_n concern_v your_o spiritual_a estate_n and_o to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o in_o any_o other_o particular_a whatsoever_o chap._n xviii_o of_o the_o rule_n how_o to_o apply_v the_o evidence_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a concernment_n to_o we_o to_o try_v whether_o our_o sin_n be_v forgive_v for_o in_o shall_v be_v give_v at_o any_o time_n for_o trial_n of_o any_o especial_o for_o the_o trial_n of_o our_o state_n in_o point_n of_o justification_n or_o sanctification_n but_o they_o will_v be_v helpful_a to_o the_o use_n of_o any_o other_o evidence_n whatsoever_o first_o be_v this_o that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o apply_v those_o rule_n of_o trial_n and_o evidence_n give_v though_o you_o
