and_o therefore_o god_n hatred_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v only_o a_o hatred_n for_o sin_n second_o to_o we_o it_o be_v the_o great_a evil_n the_o argument_n stand_v thus_o that_o which_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o 2._o great_a good_a be_v the_o great_a evil_n but_o this_o sin_n do_v ergo._fw-la for_o it_o do_v deprive_v we_o of_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o especial_o of_o two_o thing_n wherein_o stand_v our_o chief_a good_a as_o first_o it_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o best_a outward_a good_a which_o be_v god_n as_o the_o prophet_n say_v your_o sin_n separate_v between_o you_o and_o your_o god_n and_o they_o keep_v good_a thing_n from_o you_o of_o 2._o all_o other_o good_a especial_o they_o hinder_v the_o come_n of_o grace_n into_o your_o heart_n now_o what_o great_a evil_n can_v there_o be_v than_o this_o to_o keep_v both_o god_n and_o his_o grace_n from_o we_o second_o it_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o chief_a good_a within_o we_o as_o for_o example_n first_o it_o deform_v the_o beauty_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n second_o it_o weaken_v that_o grace_n that_o be_v within_o that_o be_v it_o make_v we_o unable_a to_o resist_v evil_a this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o sin_n three_o if_o you_o can_v see_v it_o in_o these_o then_o come_v unto_o the_o effect_n that_o it_o work_v and_o it_o will_v appear_v 3._o to_o be_v the_o great_a evil_n first_o it_o turn_v all_o the_o faculty_n and_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n &_o body_n to_o evil_a and_o be_v the_o breeder_n of_o all_o distemperature_n as_o fear_v and_o horror_n in_o the_o soul_n second_o it_o bring_v all_o the_o evil_a that_o do_v befall_v a_o man_n in_o this_o life_n they_o all_o come_v by_o sin_n all_o shame_n reproach_n poverty_n disgrace_n punishment_n come_v by_o sin_n now_o if_o you_o will_v but_o consider_v sin_n in_o these_o you_o will_v see_v it_o to_o be_v evil_a but_o especial_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n in_o a_o distress_a conscience_n what_o fear_n what_o amazement_n what_o astonishment_n and_o despair_n what_o sorrow_n what_o anguish_n of_o heart_n be_v there_o as_o upon_o judas_n no_o restitution_n will_v serve_v no_o comfort_n will_v work_v no_o persuasion_n will_v prevail_v thus_o if_o you_o look_v upon_o sin_n it_o will_v appear_v the_o great_a evil_n four_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a evil_n if_o you_o consider_v 4._o the_o medicine_n that_o must_v come_v to_o heal_v it_o christ_n must_v lay_v down_o his_o glory_n for_o a_o time_n he_o must_v abase_v himself_o he_o must_v come_v from_o heaven_n to_o earth_n he_o must_v take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o humble_v himself_o unto_o a_o curse_a death_n before_o sin_n can_v be_v heal_v now_o put_v they_o altogether_o sin_n be_v evil_a by_o nature_n again_o it_o be_v evil_a because_o it_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o great_a good_a both_o within_o we_o and_o without_o we_o it_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o disease_n shame_n and_o reproach_n such_o a_o evil_a that_o nothing_o will_v heal_v but_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n look_v upon_o sin_n thus_o clothe_v and_o it_o will_v appear_v the_o great_a evil_n make_v conscience_n therefore_o of_o little_a sin_n for_o they_o bring_v great_a evil_n though_o the_o sand_n of_o the_o sea_n be_v but_o little_a yet_o a_o many_o heap_v together_o make_v a_o great_a burden_n so_o sin_n though_o but_o in_o a_o idle_a word_n thought_n or_o behaviour_n seem_v to_o be_v but_o a_o little_a sin_n yet_o lay_v many_o of_o they_o together_o and_o they_o will_v break_v the_o soul_n and_o make_v it_o barren_a and_o unfit_a to_o good_a if_o a_o man_n owe_v but_o little_a debt_n yet_o if_o they_o be_v many_o if_o he_o look_v and_o cast_v they_o up_o in_o the_o total_a he_o will_v find_v himself_o present_o to_o be_v but_o a_o bankrupt_a so_o it_o be_v with_o sin_n what_o though_o the_o sin_n be_v but_o a_o little_a sin_n yet_o give_v this_o a_o little_a vent_n put_v it_o to_o action_n and_o this_o sin_n will_v prove_v a_o great_a sin_n give_v once_o consent_n and_o in_o time_n it_o will_v be_v a_o reign_a sin_n and_o when_o it_o be_v thus_o than_o it_o turn_v the_o soul_n into_o evil_n set_v it_o on_o a_o rage_n imprison_v it_o make_v it_o to_o obey_v and_o to_o be_v a_o slave_n to_o satan_n now_o what_o great_a evil_n can_v there_o be_v then_o sin_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o mean_n to_o get_v the_o judgement_n rectify_v which_o will_v see_v sin_n so_o as_o to_o humble_v it_o the_o second_o mean_n to_o be_v humble_v be_v this_o you_o mean_n must_v labour_v to_o make_v your_o heart_n fit_a to_o be_v humble_a and_o that_o you_o may_v do_v this_o you_o must_v do_v these_o thing_n first_o you_o must_v labour_v to_o get_v some_o sense_n of_o holiness_n that_o be_v you_o must_v get_v the_o heart_n in_o a_o frame_n of_o grace_n for_o except_v a_o man_n get_v the_o spirit_n he_o will_v not_o be_v humble_v but_o when_o there_o be_v holiness_n breed_v in_o the_o heart_n than_o he_o will_v see_v sin_n to_o be_v humble_a he_o will_v see_v sin_n out_o of_o his_o place_n take_v any_o heavy_a thing_n especial_o water_n and_o in_o its_o place_n it_o be_v not_o heavy_a but_o let_v it_o be_v remove_v out_o of_o its_o place_n and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o heavy_a burden_n even_o so_o will_v sin_n be_v unto_o you_o when_o you_o have_v once_o get_v the_o spirit_n you_o will_v then_o see_v sin_n out_o of_o his_o place_n and_o to_o be_v a_o heavy_a burden_n that_o you_o will_v not_o willing_o bear_v it_o but_o you_o will_v stoop_v under_o it_o and_o therefore_o the_o more_o holiness_n that_o any_o man_n get_v the_o more_o will_v be_v his_o sight_n of_o sin_n and_o where_o there_o be_v most_o sight_n of_o sin_n there_o will_v be_v most_o grief_n for_o sin_n and_o this_o grief_n be_v always_o accompany_v with_o this_o humiliation_n that_o i_o speak_v of_o and_o where_o there_o be_v the_o great_a humiliation_n for_o sin_n there_o be_v the_o great_a door_n of_o mercy_n open_v where_o there_o be_v most_o sense_n of_o sin_n there_o the_o heart_n be_v best_a fit_v for_o grace_n and_o in_o this_o case_n the_o more_o tender_a of_o conscience_n the_o better_a christian._n second_o if_o you_o will_v be_v fit_a to_o be_v humble_a 2._o consider_v another_o thing_n which_o be_v the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n if_o you_o continue_v in_o sin_n you_o shall_v be_v damn_v deprive_v of_o glory_n you_o be_v once_o good_a consider_v now_o wherein_o your_o happiness_n consist_v consider_v that_o you_o have_v a_o immortal_a soul_n and_o that_o you_o must_v be_v call_v to_o a_o account_n the_o serious_a consideration_n of_o these_o thing_n will_v make_v you_o to_o be_v humble_a nabuchadnezzar_n when_o he_o be_v bring_v to_o be_v like_o a_o beast_n than_o he_o confess_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v god_n and_o humble_v himself_o even_o so_o shall_v we_o again_o do_v but_o consider_v that_o all_o thing_n be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o that_o every_o one_o of_o you_o in_o particular_a be_v and_o that_o he_o be_v able_a present_o to_o dispose_v of_o you_o as_o he_o will_n again_o consider_v that_o god_n be_v always_o every_o where_o that_o he_o see_v all_o thing_n and_o that_o he_o will_v judge_v all_o man_n and_o that_o a_o day_n of_o judgement_n a_o day_n of_o departure_n to_o judgement_n be_v appoint_v unto_o all_o consider_v also_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o judge_n the_o sentence_n that_o he_o will_v pronounce_v the_o punishment_n that_o he_o will_v inflict_v the_o eternity_n of_o the_o time_n i_o say_v if_o man_n will_v but_o consider_v these_o thing_n wishly_o they_o will_v not_o go_v on_o in_o sin_n as_o they_o do_v but_o the_o want_n of_o consideration_n of_o these_o thing_n keep_v man_n from_o christ._n for_o if_o the_o adulterer_n will_v but_o consider_v what_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o no_o adulterer_n shall_v be_v save_v or_o if_o the_o covetous_a man_n or_o drunkard_n etc._n etc._n that_o whole_o devote_v themselves_o unto_o evil_n will_v but_o consider_v that_o in_o 1_o cor._n 9_o 6._o 9_o that_o none_o of_o these_o shall_v inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n they_o will_v not_o go_v on_o in_o sin_n as_o they_o do_v again_o if_o they_o do_v but_o consider_v that_o all_o sin_n end_v in_o pain_n that_o
fear_n there_o be_v in_o they_o the_o root_n of_o comfort_n remain_v there_o be_v many_o example_n that_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o prove_v the_o same_o but_o i_o know_v none_o like_o that_o of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n who_o although_o he_o be_v in_o such_o unspeakable_a horror_n of_o conscience_n that_o it_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o for_o saken_a i_o yet_o this_o horror_n be_v mingle_v with_o faith_n comfort_n and_o the_o assurance_n of_o god_n favour_n so_o god_n child_n may_v have_v such_o sorrow_n and_o be_v so_o drunken_a with_o wormwood_n that_o it_o may_v make_v they_o not_o to_o know_v what_o to_o do_v yet_o in_o all_o this_o grief_n the_o fire_n of_o god_n love_n be_v not_o quite_o extinguish_v but_o there_o be_v some_o spark_n thereof_o remain_v under_o these_o ash_n here_o be_v a_o caveat_n to_o be_v give_v of_o two_o thing_n first_o let_v those_o that_o be_v in_o this_o disposition_n of_o caveat_n mind_n take_v heed_n of_o that_o that_o satan_n in_o this_o condition_n may_v labour_v to_o bring_v we_o unto_o for_o than_o they_o be_v in_o a_o disease_n and_o those_o that_o be_v in_o a_o disease_n incline_v unto_o some_o thing_n take_v heed_n then_o of_o pollute_v the_o sabbath_n and_o other_o sin_n that_o he_o may_v entice_v thou_o to_o for_o sanus_fw-la and_o aeger_fw-la differ_v the_o one_o desire_n one_o thing_n the_o other_o another_o second_o something_o must_v be_v do_v positive_o caveat_n for_o the_o heal_n of_o our_o grief_n when_o that_o we_o be_v in_o sorrow_n we_o must_v pitch_v it_o upon_o the_o proper_a object_n to_o wit_n sin_n and_o put_v away_o all_o worldly_a sorrow_n for_o that_o bring_v death_n but_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n that_o bring_v life_n all_o these_o thing_n thus_o be_v expound_v the_o point_n be_v manifest_a that_o sin_n and_o god_n wrath_n be_v charge_v on_o the_o conscience_n be_v exceed_o terrible_a doctr._n indeed_o when_o the_o burden_n lie_v on_o the_o ground_n we_o feel_v it_o not_o but_o when_o it_o lie_v on_o our_o shoulder_n so_o before_o this_o horror_n be_v charge_v on_o the_o conscience_n we_o feel_v it_o not_o but_o then_o be_v it_o exceed_v terrible_a it_o be_v with_o grief_n as_o it_o be_v with_o joy_n there_o be_v three_o thing_n in_o all_o joy_n 1._o there_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n 2._o there_o be_v the_o conjunction_n of_o that_o good_a thing_n to_o we_o 3._o a_o reflect_v knowledge_n thereof_o so_o also_o in_o grief_n there_o be_v threething_n 1._o there_o be_v a_o bad_a thing_n 2._o the_o conjunction_n of_o that_o to_o we_o 3._o the_o reflect_v of_o the_o understanding_n whereby_o we_o know_v the_o hurt_n that_o come_v to_o we_o thereby_o when_o a_o man_n feel_v and_o see_v and_o know_v his_o sin_n then_o be_v it_o unsupportable_a and_o the_o reason_n thereof_o be_v because_o that_o then_o a_o man_n spirit_n be_v wound_v and_o can_v bear_v itself_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o point_n be_v these_o three_o first_o because_o that_o sin_n and_o god_n wrath_n be_v in_o 1_o themselves_o the_o great_a evil_n as_o righteousness_n and_o god_n favour_n be_v the_o great_a good_a man_n may_v think_v that_o punishment_n be_v the_o great_a evil_n but_o it_o be_v not_o for_o that_o be_v but_o the_o effect_n of_o sin_n sin_n be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o now_o we_o know_v that_o the_o cause_n be_v always_o great_a than_o the_o effect_n now_o when_o god_n shall_v open_v our_o eye_n to_o see_v this_o sin_n and_o god_n wrath_n than_o it_o will_v be_v a_o insupportable_a burden_n this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n the_o wicked_a shall_v cry_v hill_n and_o mountain_n fall_v upon_o we_o to_o hide_v we_o from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o judge_n because_o that_o then_o god_n shall_v open_v their_o eye_n to_o see_v their_o sin_n which_o if_o he_o shall_v do_v now_o while_o they_o be_v here_o on_o earth_n will_v make_v they_o cry_v out_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v with_o comfort_n so_o it_o be_v with_o grief_n if_o we_o know_v not_o of_o it_o it_o affect_v we_o not_o as_o the_o army_n that_o be_v about_o gebezai_n it_o comfort_v not_o he_o because_o he_o see_v it_o not_o so_o for_o grief_n although_o hell_n and_o damnation_n be_v about_o we_o yet_o if_o we_o see_v it_o not_o we_o do_v not_o regard_v it_o the_o second_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o god_n manner_n 2._o of_o work_v on_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o creature_n he_o than_o leave_v it_o now_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o great_a comfort_n the_o creature_n have_v be_v the_o fruition_n of_o god_n presence_n &_o the_o great_a grief_n be_v his_o absence_n if_o we_o want_v that_o we_o be_v deprive_v of_o all_o comfort_n as_o if_o the_o sun_n be_v absent_a we_o be_v deprive_v of_o all_o light_n if_o there_o be_v but_o a_o little_a comfort_n remain_v that_o will_v serve_v to_o hold_v the_o head_n above_o the_o water_n but_o if_o all_o comfort_n be_v go_v it_o then_o present_o sink_v the_o proper_a object_n of_o fear_n and_o grief_n be_v the_o absence_n of_o good_a and_o prelence_n of_o evil_a and_o both_o they_o come_v by_o the_o privation_n of_o god_n presence_n the_o three_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o the_o nature_n of_o conscience_n itself_o when_o it_o be_v awaken_v because_o that_o reas._n then_o it_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o least_o sin_n for_o every_o faculty_n as_o it_o be_v large_a so_o it_o be_v more_o capable_a of_o joy_n and_o grief_n therefore_o man_n be_v say_v to_o be_v more_o capable_a of_o joy_n and_o grief_n than_o the_o bruit_n beast_n and_o in_o man_n the_o soul_n be_v more_o capable_a than_o the_o body_n and_o in_o the_o soul_n conscience_n of_o all_o other_o part_n most_o capable_a and_o as_o the_o conscience_n be_v capable_a of_o the_o great_a grief_n so_o also_o of_o the_o great_a comfort_n it_o be_v capable_a of_o the_o peace_n of_o god_n which_o pass_v all_o understanding_n and_o sure_o this_o horror_n of_o conscience_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o spark_n of_o hell_n fire_n which_o the_o heathen_a have_v some_o inkling_n of_o when_o they_o say_v they_o be_v exagitated_a with_o the_o fury_n see_v then_o that_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v thus_o insuppartable_a this_o shall_v teach_v we_o in_o all_o thing_n especial_o 1_o to_o labour_v to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o to_o labour_v to_o be_v free_a from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n if_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v the_o great_a evil_n then_o shall_v the_o whole_a stream_n of_o our_o endeavour_n be_v to_o take_v heed_n thereof_o by_o labour_v for_o to_o keep_v a_o pure_a conscience_n proportion_n your_o care_n herein_o to_o the_o good_a that_o will_v come_v thereby_o it_o will_v bring_v the_o unspeakable_a comfort_n without_o this_o labour_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n thou_o will_v never_o have_v thy_o heart_n perfect_a therefore_o labour_n for_o it_o consider_v the_o good_a it_o bring_v man_n busy_a their_o head_n here_o to_o the_o utmost_a for_o other_o thing_n as_o for_o learning_n credit_n riches_n honour_n and_o all_o because_o they_o think_v that_o they_o be_v worthy_a their_o labour_n let_v we_o then_o but_o consider_v the_o fruit_n that_o this_o peace_n of_o conscience_n will_v bring_v let_v we_o but_o gather_v up_o our_o thought_n that_o be_v busy_v so_o much_o about_o other_o thing_n and_o but_o consider_v this_o a_o little_a which_o if_o man_n will_v but_o do_v they_o will_v spend_v more_o time_n about_o it_o then_o they_o d_o you_o for_o now_o these_o thing_n be_v do_v but_o by_o the_o bye_n and_o have_v not_o that_o tithe_n of_o the_o time_n spend_v about_o they_o that_o shall_v be_v which_o we_o spend_v about_o other_o thing_n but_o let_v such_o know_v that_o it_o be_v but_o a_o folly_n to_o go_v about_o that_o work_n with_o a_o finger_n which_o require_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o whole_a body_n when_o this_o work_n of_o the_o build_n of_o grace_n do_v require_v the_o whole_a strength_n of_o a_o man_n and_o we_o put_v not_o our_o whole_a strength_n thereto_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n if_o we_o do_v not_o prosper_v therein_o let_v we_o therefore_o serious_o consider_v our_o way_n let_v we_o consider_v with_o what_o tentation_n the_o devil_n daily_o assay_v we_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v as_o good_a get_v ground_n of_o the_o rage_a sea_n as_o of_o rage_a lust_n consider_v these_o thing_n with_o thyself_o i_o be_o very_o persuade_v that_o the_o chief_a cause_n why_o there_o be_v so_o much_o deadness_n in_o those_o that_o belong_v unto_o christ_n be_v because_o they_o consider_v not_o their_o way_n take_v time_n therefore_o to_o consider_v thy_o way_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n to_o see_v man_n complain_v of_o their_o weakness_n when_o
be_v this_o see_v the_o object_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v sin_n whether_o there_o be_v any_o degree_n quest._n of_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o howsoever_o sin_n be_v the_o chief_a cause_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n yet_o notwithstanding_o answ._n it_o admit_v of_o degree_n there_o be_v divers_a degree_n according_a unto_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o thing_n conceive_v some_o sorrow_n more_o and_o some_o less_o according_a to_o the_o proportion_n of_o grace_n receive_v every_o one_o in_o one_o degree_n or_o other_o but_o the_o cause_n in_o every_o one_o be_v proper_o sin_n but_o these_o degree_n of_o sorrow_n proceed_v from_o a_o threefold_a cause_n first_o because_o god_n will_v give_v more_o grace_n unto_o one_o then_o unto_o another_o where_o he_o god_n will_v express_v a_o large_a measure_n of_o love_n there_o he_o will_v work_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n as_o a_o father_n love_v that_o child_n best_o that_o he_o beat_v most_o three_o because_o some_o have_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n than_o other_o some_o have_v receive_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o illumination_n then_o other_o now_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o forceable_a to_o make_v a_o man_n humble_a then_o to_o be_v spiritual_o enlighten_v so_o long_o as_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n do_v not_o come_v unto_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o grace_n he_o will_v never_o be_v humble_v the_o seven_o question_n be_v this_o what_o be_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n quest._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n necessary_a be_v that_o which_o make_v a_o man_n believe_v answ._n in_o christ_n viz._n make_v he_o to_o fly_v unto_o he_o and_o to_o prize_n christ_n above_o all_o thing_n as_o the_o prodigal_n he_o do_v not_o at_o the_o first_o go_v unto_o his_o father_n but_o he_o consider_v of_o it_o and_o when_o he_o see_v no_o way_n to_o escape_v than_o he_o say_v i_o will_v go_v unto_o my_o father_n so_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n and_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o will_v make_v he_o to_o fly_v unto_o christ_n the_o least_o measure_n will_v give_v he_o such_o a_o sight_n of_o sin_n and_o such_o a_o glimpse_n of_o glory_n that_o he_o will_v prize_v it_o above_o all_o thing_n it_o will_v show_v he_o that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o escape_v hell_n but_o by_o go_v unto_o christ_n that_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v for_o sin_n but_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n nothing_o so_o excellent_a as_o grace_v and_o holiness_n be_v it_o will_v tell_v he_o that_o he_o that_o will_v be_v christ_n disciple_n must_v do_v these_o two_o thing_n first_o he_o must_v deny_v himself_o he_o must_v renounce_v all_o trust_n and_o confidence_n in_o any_o thing_n for_o salvation_n without_o christ_n and_o he_o must_v deny_v all_o ability_n to_o work_v that_o which_o be_v good_a without_o man_n from_o the_o neglect_n of_o christ_n we_o preach_v christ_n general_o unto_o all_o that_o whosoever_o will_v may_v receive_v christ_n but_o man_n will_v not_o receive_v he_o till_o they_o be_v see_v in_o the_o prodigal_n luke_n 15._o 16_o 17._o he_o will_v never_o go_v unto_o his_o father_n till_o he_o can_v see_v no_o 17._o mean_n to_o escape_v and_o then_o he_o take_v a_o resolution_n to_o go_v so_o a_o sinner_n will_v never_o receive_v christ_n nor_o the_o gospel_n till_o he_o be_v humble_v now_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a neglect_n the_o first_o be_v a_o total_a the_o second_o be_v a_o particular_a neglect_n first_o i_o say_v man_n neglect_v christ_n total_o when_o they_o refuse_v all_o the_o offer_v of_o grace_n when_o they_o will_v 1._o not_o have_v christ_n upon_o any_o condition_n they_o will_v not_o speak_v when_o the_o spirit_n call_v they_o will_v not_o believe_v that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v these_o be_v the_o same_o with_o they_o in_o the_o gospel_n that_o be_v invite_v unto_o the_o marriage_n they_o excuse_v themselves_o they_o have_v other_o employment_n that_o they_o must_v look_v unto_o let_v christ_n and_o grace_n go_v where_o they_o will_v both_o farm_n and_o ox_n and_o wife_n must_v first_o be_v look_v after_o that_o be_v they_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n more_o than_o christ_n and_o if_o christ_n will_v not_o be_v have_v without_o they_o lose_v the_o love_n of_o these_o they_o will_v not_o come_v they_o know_v the_o feast_n be_v ready_a but_o they_o mind_v it_o not_o and_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o many_o man_n in_o the_o world_n they_o will_v not_o come_v in_o within_o the_o list_n of_o the_o gospel_n lest_o they_o shall_v be_v catch_v with_o the_o hook_n though_o they_o general_o believe_v yet_o they_o will_v not_o outward_o profess_v christ_n this_o be_v a_o fearful_a condition_n if_o they_o continue_v in_o it_o he_o have_v swear_v that_o they_o shall_v never_o enter_v into_o his_o rest_n the_o second_o be_v a_o partial_a neglect_n and_o this_o be_v when_o they_o make_v a_o mixture_n both_o of_o the_o love_n of_o the_o 2._o world_n and_o of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n they_o mind_n christ_n and_o grace_n and_o holiness_n but_o they_o mind_n they_o not_o altogether_o that_o be_v they_o will_v be_v content_v to_o do_v something_o for_o christ_n but_o they_o will_v not_o do_v all_o thing_n it_o may_v be_v they_o will_v forsake_v a_o little_a profit_n or_o pleasure_n or_o vain_a glory_n or_o coveteousnesse_n for_o christ_n but_o they_o will_v not_o forsake_v all_o these_o be_v like_o the_o three_o ground_n speak_v of_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o first_o ground_n receive_v christ_n but_o they_o will_v not_o profess_v he_o so_o many_o man_n will_v be_v content_v to_o hear_v the_o gospel_n but_o they_o will_v not_o profess_v christ_n because_o they_o be_v not_o thorough_o humble_v or_o if_o they_o do_v chance_n to_o profess_v yet_o they_o will_v not_o continue_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o seed_n in_o the_o first_o ground_n do_v not_o continue_v be_v because_o the_o plough_n have_v not_o go_v deep_o enough_o that_o be_v they_o be_v not_o humble_v the_o second_o ground_n go_v yet_o further_o it_o not_o only_o receive_v the_o seed_n but_o it_o spring_v up_o with_o much_o hope_n of_o a_o fruitful_a harvest_n yet_o it_o continue_v not_o it_o will_v not_o suffer_v for_o christ_n so_o many_o man_n will_v receive_v the_o gospel_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o profession_n of_o it_o but_o they_o will_v not_o suffer_v for_o christ_n because_o they_o be_v not_o humble_a that_o be_v the_o plough_n go_v not_o deep_a enough_o to_o humble_v they_o the_o three_o ground_n go_v yet_o further_o it_o do_v not_o only_o what_o the_o other_o do_v but_o it_o do_v that_o which_o the_o other_o will_v not_o do_v that_o be_v it_o will_v be_v content_v to_o suffer_v for_o christ_n but_o yet_o it_o will_v not_o do_v all_o thing_n he_o will_v retain_v some_o pleasure_n and_o some_o profit_n
more_o even_o as_o water_n harden_v iron_n when_o it_o be_v hot_a but_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n work_v other_o effect_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v i_o be_v glad_a that_o you_o be_v sorrowful_a because_o it_o wrought_v repentance_n in_o you_o that_o be_v it_o change_v your_o heart_n so_o much_o for_o this_o question_n the_o four_o question_n be_v this_o whether_o there_o be_v any_o difference_n between_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n and_o quest._n that_o which_o be_v false_a to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o they_o differ_v in_o three_o thing_n especial_o 1._o in_o the_o object_n  _fw-fr 2._o in_o the_o cause_n answ._n  _fw-fr 3_o in_o the_o effect_n the_o first_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o object_n the_o object_n of_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n 1._o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n he_o look_v upon_o these_o without_o any_o relation_n to_o christ_n but_o the_o object_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v sin_n as_o it_o stand_v in_o opposition_n with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o he_o in_o christ_n and_o howsoever_o a_o regenerate_a man_n look_v upon_o the_o punishment_n yet_o in_o a_o different_a degree_n not_o so_o much_o because_o he_o fear_v punishment_n as_o that_o he_o shall_v give_v his_o father_n such_o cause_n to_o take_v such_o displeasure_n against_o he_o but_o it_o be_v sin_n that_o he_o principal_o look_v upon_o viz._n that_o he_o have_v displease_v so_o good_a so_o gracious_a a_o father_n as_o god_n have_v be_v unto_o he_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o work_v humiliation_n in_o he_o but_o the_o other_o see_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o hell_n death_n and_o that_o final_a separation_n between_o he_o and_o happiness_n and_o hereupon_o for_o fear_v of_o punishment_n he_o be_v humble_v thus_o you_o see_v the_o difference_n in_o the_o object_n the_o second_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o cause_n the_o cause_n of_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v either_o some_o judgement_n 2._o present_a either_o upon_o his_o person_n or_o in_o his_o substance_n or_o in_o his_o family_n or_o else_o it_o be_v some_o judgement_n that_o he_o fear_v god_n will_v inflict_v upon_o he_o hereafter_o either_o in_o his_o riches_n or_o in_o his_o credit_n and_o reputation_n among_o man_n and_o therefore_o for_o fear_v of_o these_o he_o be_v humble_v but_o the_o cause_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o apprehension_n of_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v contrary_a unto_o the_o nature_n purity_n and_o perfection_n of_o god_n as_o also_o of_o god_n love_n towards_o a_o man_n he_o have_v a_o eye_n give_v he_o whereby_o he_o see_v into_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n love_n unto_o he_o and_o then_o reflect_v upon_o himself_o and_o see_v his_o carriage_n towards_o god_n for_o such_o mercy_n and_o find_v no_o proportion_n between_o they_o hence_o grow_v his_o sorrow_n that_o he_o shall_v thus_o requite_v god_n with_o sin_n for_o mercy_n the_o three_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o effect_n for_o as_o they_o 3._o do_v proceed_v not_o from_o one_o and_o the_o same_o ground_n so_o they_o bring_v not_o forth_o the_o same_o but_o contrary_a effect_n and_o they_o be_v three_o fold_n first_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o draw_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n from_o god_n because_o they_o see_v he_o as_o a_o judge_n they_o can_v love_v he_o as_o a_o father_n he_o take_v god_n to_o be_v his_o enemy_n and_o therefore_o do_v what_o he_o can_v to_o fly_v from_o he_o because_o he_o expect_v no_o good_a from_o he_o this_o we_o see_v as_o before_o in_o adam_n cain_n and_o judas_n but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o make_v a_o man_n cleave_v fast_o unto_o christ_n to_o stick_v fast_o unto_o grace_n it_o whet_v the_o affection_n to_o love_n christ_n to_o prize_n christ_n more_o it_o work_v a_o willing_a readiness_n in_o the_o soul_n to_o obey_v it_o put_v by_o that_o which_o will_v make_v he_o fly_v from_o christ_n second_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o hurt_v the_o body_n it_o breed_v disease_n it_o waste_v and_o consume_v the_o entrail_n breed_v and_o bring_v consumption_n of_o the_o body_n it_o dull_v and_o make_v dead_a the_o soul_n it_o take_v away_o the_o relish_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n it_o make_v a_o man_n careless_a to_o good_a it_o daule_v and_o make_v a_o man_n unwilling_a unto_o any_o good_a but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o health_n of_o the_o body_n it_o quicken_v the_o soul_n of_o man_n unto_o good_a it_o put_v a_o new_a life_n into_o it_o it_o work_v a_o readiness_n in_o the_o will_n and_o love_n in_o the_o affection_n to_o christ_n grace_n and_o holiness_n three_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o make_v a_o man_n of_o a_o hot_a and_o a_o fiery_a spirit_n it_o stir_v he_o up_o after_o evil_a to_o reproach_n and_o disgrace_v his_o neighbour_n it_o fill_v he_o full_a of_o hatred_n revenge_n and_o envy_v but_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o breed_v another_o kind_n of_o spirit_n in_o he_o it_o make_v he_o of_o a_o meek_a and_o a_o quiet_a spirit_n worldly_a sorrow_n will_v not_o put_v up_o reproach_n disgrace_n and_o wrong_v but_o this_o will_v put_v up_o all_o injury_n and_o wrong_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o he_o meet_v withal_o for_o christ_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o difference_n between_o these_o the_o five_o question_n be_v this_o how_o shall_v i_o know_v quest._n whether_o my_o sorrow_n be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n or_o no._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o by_o the_o ingredient_n answ._n  _fw-fr 2._o by_o the_o continuance_n  _fw-fr 3_o by_o the_o event_n first_o i_o say_v you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o ingredient_n for_o first_o they_o have_v not_o only_o the_o sense_n of_o 1._o punishment_n which_o be_v common_a unto_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n for_o i_o say_v howsoever_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o worldly_a sorrow_n to_o apprehend_v punishment_n yet_o it_o be_v likewise_o require_v of_o godly_a sorrow_n to_o be_v sensible_a of_o punishment_n but_o there_o be_v another_o light_n put_v into_o he_o whereby_o he_o see_v into_o the_o uncleanness_n of_o sin_n he_o see_v sin_n in_o its_o own_o dye_n not_o only_a sin_n to_o be_v sin_n but_o sin_n to_o be_v vile_a and_o hereupon_o he_o will_v not_o content_v himself_o with_o mercy_n unless_o he_o may_v have_v grace_n but_o the_o other_o care_v not_o if_o he_o may_v be_v free_a from_o punishment_n whether_o he_o have_v strength_n against_o corruption_n or_o no._n second_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o continuance_n 2._o of_o it_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v constant_a but_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v but_o a_o passion_n of_o the_o mind_n it_o change_v it_o last_v not_o though_o for_o the_o present_a it_o may_v be_v violent_a and_o strong_a and_o work_n much_o outward_o yet_o it_o come_v but_o by_o fit_n and_o continue_v not_o like_o a_o land_n flood_n which_o violent_o for_o the_o present_a overflows_a the_o bank_n but_o it_o will_v away_o again_o it_o be_v not_o always_o thus_o but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v like_o a_o spring_n that_o still_o keep_v his_o run_n it_o be_v not_o dry_v up_o but_o run_v still_o it_o be_v not_o so_o violent_a as_o the_o other_o but_o it_o be_v more_o sure_a you_o shall_v have_v it_o still_o run_v both_o winter_n and_o summer_n wet_a and_o dry_a in_o hot_a and_o cold_a early_o and_o late_o so_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o same_o in_o a_o regenerate_a man_n still_o take_v he_o when_o you_o will_v he_o be_v still_o sorrow_v for_o sin_n this_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o stand_v like_o the_o centre_n of_o the_o earth_n which_o remove_v not_o but_o still_o remain_v three_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o success_n and_o 3._o event_n of_o it_o it_o will_v turn_v the_o heart_n unto_o christ_n it_o will_v make_v the_o heart_n stand_v more_o firm_a in_o grace_n it_o will_v turn_v the_o whole_a frame_n of_o the_o soul_n unto_o god_n like_o the_o loadstone_n that_o will_v not_o rest_v till_o it_o have_v touch_v the_o iron_n or_o as_o the_o needle_n touch_v will_v not_o stand_v till_o it_o touch_v the_o north-pole_n so_o it_o be_v with_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n when_o a_o man_n have_v receive_v but_o a_o touch_n of_o the_o spirit_n he_o will_v never_o rest_v till_o he_o have_v touch_v christ_n till_o he_o be_v at_o peace_n with_o he_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v he_o till_o christ_n come_v into_o the_o soul_n till_o christ_n be_v his_o nothing_o will_v make_v he_o to_o remove_v that_o confidence_n and_o trust_v that_o he_o have_v in_o christ_n all_o thing_n shall_v go_v for_o christ._n but_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n have_v another_o success_n namely_o to_o fly_v fast_o away_o from_o god_n as_o i_o have_v show_v in_o judas_n and_o caine._n and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o question_n the_o six_o question_n
every_o act_n sin_n wound_v the_o soul_n it_o will_v sure_o make_v they_o humble_a this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o lord_n complain_v of_o in_o deut._n 32._o to_o 29._o verse_n o_o that_o my_o people_n be_v wise_a that_o they_o verse_n will_v but_o consider_v with_o themselves_o viz._n their_o sin_n their_o affliction_n my_o love_n in_o their_o deliverance_n that_o be_v o_o that_o they_o will_v but_o look_v back_o unto_o the_o former_a account_n and_o see_v what_o they_o have_v do_v for_o my_o love_n it_o will_v cause_v they_o to_o be_v humble_a dolour_n be_v the_o reluctancy_n of_o the_o will_n now_o the_o will_n will_v not_o strive_v till_o there_o be_v a_o change_n wrought_v neither_o will_v a_o man_n be_v humble_v true_o till_o there_o be_v a_o thorough_a change_n in_o the_o soul_n therefore_o labour_n after_o holiness_n and_o get_v both_o a_o sense_n of_o holiness_n and_o a_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o this_o will_v humble_v you_o the_o three_o mean_n to_o get_v humiliation_n be_v application_n you_o must_v apply_v both_o what_o you_o have_v receive_v mean_n and_o what_o you_o have_v pay_v together_o and_o then_o cast_v up_o the_o account_n first_o consider_v what_o you_o have_v receive_v from_o god_n and_o what_o you_o do_v present_o enjoy_v and_o then_o consider_v what_o have_v i_o pay_v what_o have_v i_o do_v how_o have_v i_o demean_v myself_o what_o obedience_n have_v i_o yield_v what_o thanks_n have_v i_o return_v again_o consider_v the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o grace_n and_o then_o consider_v sin_n that_o it_o be_v evil_a by_o nature_n that_o it_o be_v evil_a to_o i_o that_o it_o bring_v forth_o evil_a effect_n except_o you_o thus_o wise_o apply_v it_o it_o will_v not_o humble_v you_o you_o will_v not_o feel_v sin_n or_o esteem_v it_o as_o a_o burden_n because_o you_o will_v not_o see_v it_o out_o of_o its_o place_n it_o will_v be_v as_o a_o heavy_a burden_n at_o the_o foot_n which_o though_o never_o so_o heavy_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o feel_v it_o will_v not_o hurt_v a_o man_n so_o long_o as_o it_o lie_v there_o even_o so_o sin_n will_v not_o be_v a_o burden_n unto_o the_o soul_n till_o it_o be_v apply_v unto_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o spirit_n but_o when_o it_o be_v apply_v than_o it_o will_v be_v like_o a_o burden_n upon_o the_o back_n which_o a_o man_n will_v quick_o be_v weary_a of_o sin_n will_v then_o clog_n a_o regenerate_a soul_n and_o humble_v he_o and_o this_o wisdom_n we_o may_v learn_v of_o the_o devil_n himself_o when_o he_o will_v bring_v a_o man_n unto_o despair_n he_o will_v still_o hold_v out_o before_o a_o man_n his_o sin_n and_o that_o with_o aggravation_n of_o they_o that_o so_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o the_o sight_n of_o they_o and_o then_o he_o will_v hold_v out_o the_o justice_n and_o purity_n of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v not_o let_v sin_n go_v unpunished_a that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v save_v that_o so_o a_o christian_a may_v be_v out_o of_o measure_n deject_v and_o thus_o a_o christian_a shall_v do_v if_o he_o will_v be_v humble_v let_v he_o still_o set_v sin_n before_o he_o and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o the_o general_a but_o also_o to_o apply_v it_o in_o particular_a unto_o the_o conscience_n and_o especial_o in_o case_n of_o relapse_n for_o as_o figure_n add_v to_o cipher_n do_v make_v the_o total_a the_o more_o so_o relapse_n in_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a sin_n and_o a_o particular_a notice_n of_o they_o will_v cause_v great_a humiliation_n again_o let_v man_n set_v before_o he_o sin_n against_o knowledge_n or_o great_a sin_n and_o this_o will_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o humble_v you_o for_o what_o be_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o sin_v against_o knowledge_n upon_o a_o obstinate_a will_n in_o despite_n of_o god_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o that_o the_o sin_n of_o knowledge_n be_v a_o great_a sin_n appear_v in_o act_n 17._o 30._o at_o the_o time_n of_o their_o ignorance_n 30._o god_n wink_v that_o be_v so_o long_o as_o you_o want_v the_o mean_n of_o knowledge_n both_o of_o know_v i_o and_o my_o spirit_n i_o little_o regard_v it_o i_o wink_v at_o it_o that_o be_v i_o esteem_v it_o not_o so_o great_a but_o past_o it_o over_o but_o now_o the_o cause_n be_v alter_v since_o i_o come_v in_o my_o own_o person_n and_o preach_v unto_o you_o now_o i_o will_v not_o wink_n at_o your_o sin_n as_o before_o i_o will_v not_o pass_v it_o over_o as_o i_o do_v before_o but_o i_o will_v behold_v you_o in_o another_o manner_n after_o the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n to_o fall_v into_o it_o and_o then_o not_o to_o be_v humble_v be_v to_o slight_v a_o sin_n and_o to_o slight_v a_o sin_n after_o the_o commit_n of_o it_o ismore_o dangerous_a than_o the_o sin_n itself_o wound_v the_o soul_n more_o provoke_v god_n wrath_n against_o a_o man_n the_o more_o as_o a_o servant_n after_o a_o fault_n commit_v when_o his_o master_n tell_v he_o of_o it_o if_o he_o shall_v then_o slight_v it_o as_o not_o regard_v it_o the_o slight_n of_o it_o incense_v his_o master_n more_o against_o he_o than_o the_o fault_n itself_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v be_v humble_v apply_v sin_n unto_o the_o soul_n and_o come_v from_o the_o general_a unto_o particular_a sin_n especial_o fasten_v your_o heart_n upon_o great_a sin_n that_o rule_n in_o logic_n hold_v true_a that_o general_n work_v not_o but_o particular_n be_v prevalent_a as_o i_o say_v before_o when_o sin_n lie_v like_o a_o burden_n at_o the_o foot_n it_o hurt_v not_o but_o when_o it_o be_v lay_v upon_o the_o shoulder_n than_o it_o hurt_v save_v knowledge_n break_v the_o heart_n and_o humble_v the_o soul_n on_o the_o contrary_a ignorance_n harden_v more_o and_o more_o this_o we_o see_v in_o joh._n 4._o in_o the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n the_o reason_n wherefore_o she_o receive_v not_o christ_n be_v because_o she_o want_v 4._o knowledge_n to_o know_v she_o own_o estate_n general_a conference_n and_o exhortation_n to_o receive_v christ_n will_v not_o serve_v till_o christ_n come_v in_o particular_a unto_o she_o and_o tell_v she_o in_o plain_a word_n that_o she_o be_v a_o harlot_n until_o then_o she_o little_o regard_v he_o than_o she_o can_v bestir_v herself_o than_o she_o can_v confess_v and_o be_v humble_v and_o thus_o he_o deal_v with_o paul_n in_o this_o place_n paul_n why_o persecute_v thou_o i_o and_o thus_o he_o 4._o deal_v with_o adam_n what_o particular_a sin_n wrought_v a_o general_a 15._o change_n in_o they_o and_o mighty_o humble_v they_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v be_v humble_v apply_v particular_a fail_n and_o exclude_v none_o because_o we_o look_v upon_o it_o a_o far_o off_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o it_o do_v not_o affright_v we_o now_o to_o help_v you_o to_o bring_v thing_n to_o a_o propinquity_n that_o you_o may_v be_v humble_v you_o must_v observe_v these_o two_o rule_n first_o i_o say_v you_o must_v look_v upon_o thing_n that_o 1._o be_v past_a as_o present_v consider_v that_o the_o sin_n that_o be_v pass_v be_v as_o great_a a_o sin_n as_o ever_o it_o be_v though_o it_o seem_v afar_o off_o that_o be_v commit_v long_o ago_o it_o be_v man_n weakness_n to_o think_v otherwise_o of_o sin_n a_o malefactor_n that_o have_v commit_v a_o foul_a fact_n a_o long_a while_n ago_o if_o his_o pardon_n be_v
not_o always_o use_v it_o so_o though_o sin_n do_v not_o always_o appear_v bitter_a unto_o you_o yet_o it_o be_v and_o it_o appear_v not_o bitter_a oftentimes_o to_o some_o because_o it_o do_v not_o use_v its_o sting_n always_o but_o sin_n be_v bitter_a because_o it_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o affliction_n i_o say_v sin_n be_v the_o sting_n and_o edge_n of_o every_o affliction_n take_v sin_n from_o the_o affliction_n and_o affliction_n will_v be_v but_o a_o bulk_n without_o a_o burden_n or_o as_o a_o serpent_n without_o a_o sting_n or_o a_o sword_n without_o a_o edge_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a nothing_o be_v bitter_a nor_o hurt_n if_o sin_n be_v remove_v paul_n have_v a_o good_a conscience_n because_o sin_n be_v not_o join_v with_o it_o and_o therefore_o the_o affliction_n because_o he_o see_v god_n in_o his_o power_n and_o holiness_n and_o sin_n contrary_a unto_o the_o pure_a nature_n of_o god_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o jailor_n be_v so_o affright_v be_v it_o because_o the_o prison_n door_n be_v open_v no_o but_o because_o he_o apprehend_v a_o wonderful_a power_n in_o god_n there_o be_v a_o glimpse_n of_o the_o power_n of_o god_n that_o shine_v into_o his_o heart_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o so_o affright_v he_o so_o you_o see_v that_o the_o more_o that_o any_o man_n see_v into_o the_o power_n and_o majesty_n of_o god_n the_o more_o bitter_a will_v sin_n be_v unto_o the_o soul_n as_o we_o see_v in_o judas_n he_o see_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o then_o sin_n become_v bitter_a unto_o he_o now_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o god_n bear_v the_o burden_n of_o his_o child_n and_o keep_v it_o off_o from_o they_o else_o with_o judas_n they_o will_v sink_v under_o they_o again_o sometime_o he_o do_v not_o lay_v it_o upon_o they_o but_o they_o lay_v it_o upon_o themselves_o but_o if_o god_n lay_v it_o on_o they_o shall_v see_v sin_n to_o be_v a_o bitter_a thing_n second_o as_o sin_n be_v bitter_a so_o it_o shall_v appear_v to_o be_v so_o unto_o all_o man_n soon_o or_o late_a and_o that_o for_o 2._o these_o reason_n the_o first_o reason_n be_v because_o otherwise_o god_n shall_v loose_v his_o glory_n i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o this_o glory_n reason_n shall_v be_v take_v away_o for_o nothing_o neither_o sin_n nor_o satan_n shall_v take_v away_o god_n glory_n because_o all_o thing_n work_v for_o his_o glory_n neither_o can_v any_o thing_n add_v unto_o his_o glory_n but_o i_o say_v if_o god_n shall_v not_o make_v sin_n bitter_a unto_o man_n soon_o or_o late_a his_o glory_n shall_v be_v suspend_v for_o a_o time_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o the_o lord_n to_o prefix_v unto_o many_o threaten_n his_o own_a name_n the_o prophet_n use_v it_o frequent_o after_o that_o they_o have_v jnjoyne_v punishment_n to_o follow_v the_o breach_n of_o it_o so_o that_o if_o a_o man_n break_v the_o law_n than_o he_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o be_v punish_v for_o god_n be_v zealous_a of_o his_o law_n and_o he_o will_v not_o pass_v a_o sinner_n in_o the_o breach_n of_o it_o without_o satisfaction_n because_o every_o injunctive_a law_n as_o it_o bind_v to_o obedience_n so_o it_o bind_v the_o disobedient_a unto_o punishment_n the_o three_o reason_n be_v because_o of_o the_o justice_n of_o reason_n god_n if_o he_o shall_v not_o punish_v sinner_n when_o they_o sin_n if_o he_o shall_v not_o make_v they_o to_o feel_v that_o sin_n be_v bitter_a soon_o or_o latter_a he_o shall_v not_o be_v god_n therefore_o say_v abraham_n shall_v not_o the_o god_n of_o all_o the_o earth_n do_v right_a justice_n in_o god_n to_o punish_v sinner_n it_o be_v his_o nature_n for_o justice_n in_o god_n be_v god_n himself_o but_o you_o will_v say_v it_o do_v not_o appear_v so_o that_o object_n god_n do_v punish_v offender_n for_o we_o see_v wicked_a man_n prosper_v in_o their_o wickedness_n and_o they_o have_v no_o bond_n in_o their_o death_n as_o job_n say_v they_o feel_v sin_n not_o so_o bitter_a as_o you_o say_v it_o be_v when_o on_o the_o contrary_a the_o godly_a suffer_v much_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o man_n judgement_n be_v contrary_a to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o this_o thing_n god_n answ._n know_v better_o how_o and_o when_o and_o where_o to_o take_v offender_n than_o man_n can_v therefore_o though_o god_n do_v suspend_v execution_n awhile_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o amorites_n because_o their_o sin_n be_v not_o full_a it_o be_v not_o come_v unto_o the_o full_a 15._o pitch_n sin_n be_v grow_v all_o the_o time_n of_o a_o man_n life_n it_o be_v like_a fruit_n it_o
