it_o now_o gal._n 4._o 29._o second_o observe_v that_o this_o hatred_n of_o the_o world_n be_v not_o only_o against_o the_o member_n of_o god_n church_n but_o even_o against_o christ_n holy_a three_o if_o they_o be_v bless_v that_o suffer_v persecution_n then_o how_o may_v any_o man_n lawful_o fly_v in_o persecution_n answer_n a_o man_n may_v fly_v in_o persecution_n with_o good_a conscience_n these_o two_o thing_n observe_v first_o that_o he_o be_v persecution_n not_o hinder_v by_o his_o particular_a call_n second_o that_o he_o have_v liberty_n offer_v by_o god_n providence_n of_o our_o sin_n every_o day_n second_o conscience_n we_o must_v follow_v after_o peace_n with_o man_n in_o the_o practice_n of_o forgiveness_n &_o reconciliation_n when_o offence_n grow_v for_o when_o we_o be_v at_o one_o with_o god_n and_o man_n we_o have_v a_o bless_a peace_n and_o hence_o will_v follow_v peace_n in_o our_o own_o heart_n which_o be_v that_o peace_n which_o the_o world_n can_v give_v which_o while_o we_o retain_v we_o need_v not_o to_o fear_v any_o evil_n no_o not_o death_n itself_o for_o if_o god_n be_v with_o we_o who_o can_v be_v against_o we_o verse_n 13._o and_o lead_v we_o not_o into_o temptation_n but_o deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a these_o word_n contain_v the_o six_o and_o last_o petition_n which_o be_v not_o needless_a coherence_n as_o some_o may_v think_v but_o for_o weighty_a cause_n set_v after_o all_o the_o former_a though_o a_o man_n have_v the_o fruition_n of_o all_o the_o grace_n there_o desire_v to_o tempt_v wit_n first_o to_o teach_v we_o who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v most_o trouble_v with_o temptation_n namely_o the_o child_n of_o god_n that_o set_v themselves_o to_o seek_v his_o glory_n to_o advance_v his_o kingdom_n to_o do_v his_o will_n to_o depend_v upon_o his_o providence_n and_o to_o rely_v upon_o his_o mercy_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n these_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o subject_a to_o temptation_n for_o be_v escape_v out_o of_o the_o devil_n snare_n he_o bestir_v himself_o by_o all_o possible_a mean_n to_o bring_v they_o in_o again_o grievous_a temptation_n do_v always_o accompany_v remission_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v join_v with_o endeavour_n to_o glorify_v god_n as_o both_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o christian_a experience_n do_v full_o witness_v which_o must_v be_v well_o observe_v both_o to_o stay_v the_o mind_n of_o those_o that_o be_v deep_o humble_v through_o satan_n temptation_n think_v that_o they_o be_v not_o the_o child_n of_o god_n because_o they_o be_v so_o trouble_v with_o sin_n and_o satan_n when_o as_o the_o case_n be_v clean_o contrary_a for_o spiritual_a temptation_n if_o they_o be_v resist_v with_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v rather_o a_o sign_n of_o god_n love_n because_o the_o devil_n hatred_n be_v most_o towards_o they_o who_o god_n love_v best_a &_o on_o who_o god_n show_v mercy_n towards_o they_o will_v the_o devil_n exercise_v his_o malice_n as_o also_o this_o discover_v the_o folly_n of_o those_o that_o sooth_n up_o themselves_o in_o this_o fond_a conceit_n that_o god_n sure_o love_v they_o and_o they_o be_v deep_a in_o his_o favour_n because_o they_o be_v free_v from_o temptation_n when_o as_o indeed_o they_o ought_v rather_o to_o suspect_v themselves_o to_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n for_o when_o the_o strong_a man_n arm_v keep_v the_o hold_n the_o thing_n that_o he_o possess_v be_v in_o peace_n luk._n 11._o 21._o whereby_o be_v signify_v that_o the_o wicked_a of_o the_o world_n be_v possess_v of_o satan_n be_v at_o peace_n in_o themselves_o in_o regard_n of_o temptation_n for_o what_o need_v he_o to_o trouble_v they_o which_o be_v already_o at_o his_o command_n but_o let_v they_o begin_v to_o repent_v &_o to_o seek_v mercy_n for_o their_o sin_n with_o endeavour_n to_o leave_v they_o &_o they_o shall_v soon_o find_v that_o god_n favour_n be_v not_o enjoy_v without_o the_o devil_n malice_n second_o this_o petition_n be_v join_v with_o the_o former_a to_o teach_v we_o that_o as_o we_o must_v be_v careful_a to_o beg_v mercy_n and_o pardon_n for_o our_o sin_n already_o sin_n past_a so_o we_o must_v be_v watchful_a to_o prevent_v sin_n to_o come_v he_o that_o say_v forgive_v we_o our_o trespass_n must_v pray_v also_o not_o to_o be_v lead_v into_o temptation_n and_o therefore_o as_o we_o will_v not_o have_v our_o conscience_n prick_v with_o the_o sting_n of_o our_o old_a sin_n so_o we_o must_v be_v careful_a we_o fall_v not_o into_o they_o again_o neither_o be_v overcome_v with_o new_a temptation_n the_o meaning_n the_o word_n themselves_o contain_v one_o only_a petition_n though_o some_o have_v think_v otherwise_o consist_v of_o two_o part_n the_o first_o be_v the_o petition_n itself_o and_o lead_v we_o not_o into_o temptation_n the_o second_o be_v the_o exposition_n thereof_o but_o deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a for_o in_o effect_v it_o be_v thus_o much_o that_o we_o be_v not_o lead_v into_o temptation_n deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a for_o the_o first_o that_o we_o may_v right_o understand_v it_o we_o must_v search_v out_o fold_n two_o thing_n first_o what_o a_o temptation_n be_v second_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v lead_v into_o temptation_n there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o temptation_n good_a and_o evil_a i_o call_v that_o a_o good_a and_o holy_a temptation_n when_o as_o god_n tempt_v a_o man_n and_o good_n it_o be_v a_o action_n of_o god_n
mind_n rule_v and_o direct_v the_o will_n and_o affection_n but_o now_o these_o inferior_a power_n rule_v or_o rather_o over-rule_v the_o mind_n and_o utter_o pervert_v the_o regiment_n thereof_o they_o cast_v a_o mist_n and_o a_o veil_n over_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n that_o it_o can_v see_v nothing_o in_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n and_o therefore_o as_o we_o tender_v the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n we_o must_v renounce_v our_o own_o natural_a will_n and_o corrupt_a desire_n and_o strive_v to_o bring_v they_o into_o subjection_n unto_o the_o word_n of_o god_n many_o man_n think_v much_o to_o be_v cross_v of_o their_o natural_a desire_n and_o delight_n but_o it_o be_v happy_a for_o the_o soul_n when_o god_n in_o his_o providence_n do_v break_v man_n of_o their_o will_n for_o the_o will_v unsubdued_a carry_v the_o whole_a man_n headlong_o into_o all_o disorder_n this_o must_v be_v consider_v of_o they_o which_o have_v knowledge_n and_o learning_n for_o of_o the_o gospel_n be_v turn_v into_o darkness_n heb._n 3._o 12._o saying_n take_v heed_n lest_o there_o be_v in_o any_o of_o you_o a_o evil_a heart_n of_o unbelief_n etc._n etc._n where_o the_o place_n we_o must_v remember_v that_o the_o scope_n of_o christ_n in_o these_o two_o verse_n be_v to_o show_v that_o the_o evil_a and_o blind_a eye_n of_o man_n by_o nature_n whereby_o he_o be_v disable_v to_o discern_v right_o of_o thing_n that_o differ_v be_v the_o cause_n why_o in_o seek_v after_o treasure_n he_o leave_v the_o heavenly_a and_o seek_v earthly_a treasure_n only_o and_o hereby_o we_o must_v be_v admonish_v to_o labour_v for_o this_o gift_n of_o discern_v by_o the_o illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o word_n as_o we_o show_v before_o that_o so_o the_o eye_n
