¶_o a_o treatise_n of_o confession_n for_o suche_n spiritvall_n person_n as_o freqvent_v this_o sacrament_n with_o a_o meditation_n for_o the_o most_o holy_a communion_n of_o the_o profit_n of_o often_o confession_n chap._n 1_o howe._n great_a be_v the_o necessity_n of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o confession_n &_o how_o great_a profit_n it_o bring_v unto_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o faithful_a which_o with_o devotion_n do_v frequent_v it_o much_o better_a be_v prove_v by_o that_o which_o every_o one_o do_v try_v in_o himself_o than_o either_o can_v be_v exercise_v by_o word_n or_o declare_v in_o many_o volume_n wherefore_o christ_n our_o redeemer_n know_v very_o well_o the_o great_a necessity_n which_o we_o have_v of_o so_o wholesome_a a_o medicine_n will_v in_o the_o end_n of_o his_o not_o but_o to_o wash_v his_o foot_n that_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o our_o frail_a nature_n be_v such_o that_o it_o can_v long_o maintain_v itself_o without_o some_o spot_n of_o venial_a sin_n at_o the_o least_o it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a that_o a_o man_n have_v by_o this_o sacrament_n cleanse_v his_o soul_n from_o the_o filth_n of_o mortal_a sin_n but_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o the_o end_n that_o he_o may_v maintain_v it_o altogether_o pure_a that_o from_o time_n to_o time_n he_o wash_v also_o the_o foot_n of_o his_o affection_n from_o the_o dust_n of_o veriall_a sin_n now_o although_o the_o authority_n of_o so_o great_a a_o master_n who_o be_v the_o institutor_n of_o this_o sacrament_n aught_o of_o itself_o to_o suffice_v to_o move_v we_o to_o the_o frequent_v thereof_o yet_o they_o chance_v at_o any_o time_n to_o fall_v and_o more_o stout_o they_o fight_v and_o resist_v temptation_n 3_o by_o the_o frequent_v of_o this_o sacrament_n a_o man_n do_v always_o obtain_v great_a light_n not_o only_o for_o to_o know_v his_o sin_n be_v they_o never_o so_o little_a whereas_o in_o a_o fair_a cloth_n more_o easy_o be_v spy_v small_a spot_v than_o in_o that_o which_o be_v foul_a &_o stain_v but_o also_o for_o to_o know_v the_o root_n of_o they_o which_o be_v his_o evell_a inclination_n and_o passion_n wherefore_o when_o the_o cause_n of_o any_o infirmity_n be_v once_o find_v out_o more_o easy_a be_v the_o cure_n thereof_o &_o these_o person_n now_o know_v themselves_o know_v how_o more_o easy_o to_o keep_v themselves_o from_o the_o occasion_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o maintain_v their_o spiritval_n health_n 4_o the_o oft_o a_o man_n do_v confess_v so_o much_o the_o more_o through_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o sacrament_n he_o get_v always_o great_a grace_n and_o by_o how_o much_o more_o he_o increase_v in_o grace_n so_o much_o the_o more_o capable_a do_v be_v become_v and_o more_o dispose_v to_o receive_v yet_o great_a grace_n in_o other_o confession_n which_o follow_v whence_o oftentimes_o it_o proceed_v that_o a_o sinner_n often_o go_v to_o confeâ—â—ion_n for_o the_o number_n of_o act_n which_o he_o do_v of_o penance_n increase_v so_o much_o the_o more_o in_o this_o virtue_n that_o after_o many_o confession_n he_o rise_v again_o as_o saint_n thomas_n note_v with_o great_a grace_n &_o fervour_n of_o charity_n than_o he_o have_v first_o before_o he_o 7_o he_o that_o frequent_v this_o sacrament_n of_o confession_n be_v neither_o so_o oft_o nor_o so_o grievous_o tempt_v of_o the_o devil_n for_o even_o as_o the_o spider_n do_v not_o weave_v their_o web_n in_o the_o house_n of_o scotfree_a person_n because_o they_o be_v often_o break_v by_o such_o as_o continual_o sweep_v they_o away_o so_o in_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v cleanse_v by_o often_o confession_n the_o devil_n can_v at_o his_o pleasure_n frame_n or_o make_v the_o snare_n of_o his_o temptation_n but_o rather_o see_v that_o his_o deceit_n be_v often_o disclose_v unto_o such_o as_o can_v apply_v remedy_n &_o that_o he_o can_v escape_v without_o loss_n &_o confusion_n in_o the_o end_n he_o run_v away_o because_o as_o saint_n iâ—rome_n say_v look_v how_o the_o power_n &_o forcâ—_n
