determine_v her_o will_n to_o pursue_v that_o incomprehensible_a because_o infinite_a subject_n of_o all_o perfection_n which_o alone_o can_v satisfy_v her_o understanding_n with_o light_n or_o knowledge_n and_o her_o will_n with_o love_n she_o do_v not_o only_o exercise_v herself_o in_o simple_a and_o abstract_a conception_n such_o as_o be_v proper_a to_o her_o immaterial_a essence_n alone_o and_o conformable_a to_o the_o dignity_n of_o the_o thing_n she_o speculate_v but_o communicate_v her_o affect_n also_o to_o the_o sensitive_a soul_n by_o who_o subordinate_a motion_n she_o be_v oblige_v to_o act_v respective_o to_o her_o end_n and_o these_o motion_n or_o act_n be_v thus_o traduce_v from_o the_o superior_a to_o the_o inferior_a soul_n and_o thence_o derive_v first_o to_o the_o brain_n and_o imagination_n then_o to_o the_o heart_n produce_v therein_o and_o so_o in_o the_o blood_n the_o various_a motion_n that_o constitute_v such_o passion_n as_o we_o observe_v in_o ourselves_o when_o we_o be_v most_o ardent_o urge_v to_o act_n of_o devotion_n and_o piety_n towards_o the_o supreme_a be_v whence_o it_o be_v doubtless_o that_o divine_a love_n detestation_n of_o sin_n repentance_n hope_v of_o salvation_n fear_v of_o incense_a divine_a justice_n and_o most_o if_o not_o all_o other_o act_n or_o passion_n of_o devotion_n be_v common_o ascribe_v to_o the_o heart_n and_o that_o not_o without_o some_o reason_n for_o though_o i_o can_v admit_v the_o heart_n to_o be_v the_o seat_n of_o the_o passion_n as_o the_o aristotelean_v unanimous_o hold_v it_o to_o and_o since_o they_o be_v not_o feel_v by_o we_o as_o in_o the_o heart_n but_o only_o by_o mean_n of_o the_o nerve_n descend_v thither_o from_o the_o brain_n as_o pain_n be_v not_o feel_v as_o in_o the_o foot_n but_o by_o intervention_n of_o nerve_n betwixt_o the_o foot_n and_o the_o brain_n and_o as_o the_o star_n appear_v to_o we_o as_o in_o heaven_n by_o mediation_n of_o their_o light_n affect_v our_o optic_a nerve_n so_o that_o it_o be_v no_o more_o necessary_a the_o soul_n shall_v exercise_v her_o function_n or_o receive_v her_o passion_n immediate_o in_o the_o heart_n only_o because_o she_o feel_v her_o passion_n therein_o than_o it_o be_v she_o shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n because_o she_o see_v the_o star_n to_o be_v there_o or_o in_o the_o foot_n because_o pain_n appear_v to_o she_o to_o be_v there_o notwithstanding_o this_o i_o say_v yet_o the_o adscription_n of_o these_o devout_a passion_n to_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o altogether_o destitute_a of_o reason_n for_o for_o instance_n when_o the_o inferior_a soul_n be_v command_v by_o the_o superior_a to_o humble_a and_o as_o it_o be_v to_o prostrate_v herself_n in_o adoration_n of_o the_o sacred_a majesty_n of_o animal_n spirit_n be_v in_o whole_a legion_n withdraw_v from_o minis_fw-la tring_n to_o the_o imagination_n and_o sense_n be_v by_o the_o nerve_n transmit_v in_o crowd_n to_o the_o heart_n which_o while_o they_o close_o contract_v and_o shut_v they_o cause_v the_o blood_n to_o remain_v long_o than_o be_v usual_a in_o the_o cavity_n thereof_o and_o by_o that_o mean_n keep_v it_o both_o from_o be_v too_o much_o kindle_v in_o the_o lung_n and_o from_o be_v send_v from_o the_o heart_n in_o too_o great_a abundance_n into_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o body_n and_o more_o especial_o into_o the_o brain_n as_o if_o nature_n itself_o have_v institute_v that_o in_o sacred_a passion_n the_o blood_n or_o principal_a seat_n of_o life_n shall_v be_v offer_v up_o to_o the_o author_n of_o life_n upon_o the_o altar_n of_o the_o heart_n while_o the_o brain_n or_o seat_n of_o reason_n be_v keep_v serene_a and_o clear_a nor_o be_v it_o difficult_a to_o a_o man_n pray_v to_o almighty_a god_n with_o fervency_n of_o spirit_n to_o observe_v in_o himself_o that_o his_o blood_n be_v more_o and_o more_o arrest_v and_o detain_v within_o his_o breast_n the_o while_n insomuch_o that_o his_o heart_n
