and_o idolatry_n if_o i_o shall_v make_v these_o 7_o thing_n good_a against_o these_o 10_o minister_n as_o in_o this_o book_n i_o shall_v than_o i_o trust_v you_o will_v pardon_v i_o if_o now_o and_o then_o i_o let_v fale_v a_o harsh_a word_n or_o two_o against_o they_o and_o then_o i_o trust_v you_o will_v not_o blame_v i_o for_o take_v up_o the_o buckler_n against_o they_o as_o god_n enemy_n in_o these_o case_n i_o can_v not_o have_v take_v these_o thing_n so_o evil_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o any_o as_o of_o puritan_n nor_o of_o any_o puritan_n as_o of_o puritan_n minister_n for_o at_o their_o hand_n i_o look_v for_o better_a as_o for_o they_o these_o 10_o minister_n i_o require_v and_o charge_v they_o as_o they_o will_v answer_v it_o before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o almighty_a god_n shall_v stand_v to_o what_o they_o say_v without_o alterationes_fw-la and_o after_o minceing_n and_o extenuationes_fw-la a_o author_n may_v be_v much_o wrong_v and_o abuse_v in_o pulpit_n as_o i_o have_v but_o if_o we_o join_v both_o these_o together_o as_o first_o that_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n lie_v upon_o we_o to_o magnify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o his_o so_o great_a a_o work_n of_o wonder_n &_o second_o that_o this_o so_o great_a a_o work_n it_o do_v redound_v to_o the_o profit_n and_o good_a of_o every_o one_o among_o we_o then_o what_o great_a cause_n and_o what_o just_a cause_n be_v there_o that_o every_o one_o of_o we_o shall_v at_o this_o day_n celebrate_v a_o thank_v full_a remembrance_n of_o the_o work_n of_o creation_n neither_o can_v i_o think_v there_o be_v any_o man_n so_o ungrateful_a as_o to_o deny_v unto_o god_n a_o thankful_a remembrance_n of_o this_o so_o great_a work_n by_o mean_n whereof_o we_o live_v and_o have_v a_o be_v and_o all_o the_o creature_n seruicable_a unto_o we_o even_o the_o sun_n itself_o to_o serve_v we_o with_o her_o light_n &_o heat_n whence_o i_o thus_o argue_v if_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n &_o also_o such_o duty_n as_o we_o free_o do_v acknowledge_v unto_o god_n to_o keep_v a_o thankful_a remembrance_n of_o his_o myraculouse_a work_n of_o creation_n why_o then_o shall_v any_o man_n deny_v we_o the_o special_a help_n and_o needful_a mean_n appoint_v of_o god_n to_o keep_v the_o memory_n of_o the_o creation_n in_o his_o church_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o absurd_a then_o to_o grant_v the_o performance_n of_o a_o holy_a action_n to_o be_v due_a unto_o god_n &_o yet_o to_o deny_v such_o needful_a and_o profitable_a mean_n as_o god_n have_v ordain_v to_o that_o end_n this_o be_v all_o one_o as_o if_o we_o the_o church_n which_o serve_v to_o put_v we_o in_o mind_n thereof_o in_o a_o word_n it_o be_v to_o eparate_v the_o mean_n from_o the_o end_n than_o the_o which_o nothing_o be_v more_o absurd_a wherefore_o as_o we_o will_v approve_v &_o testify_v our_o thankfulness_n to_o god_n for_o so_o great_a a_o blessing_n as_o the_o creation_n be_v unto_o we_o and_o as_o we_o desire_v to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o his_o maruailouse_a work_n so_o let_v we_o be_v zealouse_a to_o maintain_v in_o the_o church_n all_o the_o mean_n &_o needful_a help_n thereof_o furthermore_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o we_o in_o our_o time_n have_v as_o great_a use_n &_o need_n of_o mean_n &_o help_n to_o keep_v in_o memory_n this_o great_a work_n of_o god_n creation_n as_o ever_o have_v the_o jew_n &_o people_n of_o god_n if_o not_o great_a need_n for_o by_o nature_n we_o be_v as_o ungratfull_a unthankful_a and_o unmindful_a of_o god_n blessing_n and_o mercy_n receive_v as_o ever_o they_o be_v &_o we_o stand_v in_o as_o much_o need_n as_o ever_o they_o do_v to_o be_v stir_v up_o by_o all_o help_n &_o mean_n to_o give_v unto_o god_n the_o glory_n due_a unto_o his_o name_n for_o his_o work_n of_o wonder_n which_o he_o have_v wrought_v nay_o we_o stand_v in_o more_o need_n now_o then_o they_o do_v then_o by_o how_o much_o we_o live_v in_o time_n long_o and_o further_o off_o from_o the_o creation_n than_o they_o do_v for_o we_o be_v in_o more_o danger_n of_o sleit_v &_o forget_v this_o great_a benefit_n of_o the_o creation_n than_o be_v the_o israel_n of_o god_n because_o they_o live_v never_o unto_o it_o and_o hard_o by_o it_o as_o it_o be_v in_o comparison_n of_o we_o who_o live_v thousand_o of_o year_n after_o they_o and_o who_o know_v not_o how_o soon_o thing_n do_v long_o ago_o slip_v out_o of_o memory_n or_o if_o they_o slip_n not_o quite_o out_o of_o memory_n yet_o they_o lay_v there_o like_o the_o ingraving_n write_v upon_o grave_a stone_n which_o by_o continual_a trample_n upon_o be_v well_o nigh_o wear_v out_o it_o be_v needful_a therefore_o that_o we_o shall_v have_v all_o mean_n &_o help_n that_o may_v as_o it_o be_v daily_o new_a write_v &_o engrave_v upon_o out_o memory_n the_o honourable_a memory_n of_o the_o miracle_n of_o creation_n it_o may_v be_v some_o will_v answer_v thus_o that_o the_o mean_n once_o ordain_v of_o god_n ought_v still_o to_o be_v in_o use_n if_o none_o other_o as_o fit_v may_v be_v find_v out_o but_o other_o as_o fit_v for_o that_o use_n may_v be_v find_v out_o as_o the_o lord_n day_n for_o herein_o we_o may_v keep_v a_o memory_n of_o the_o creation_n against_o this_o i_o have_v these_o reason_n 1._o the_o lord_n day_n or_o sunday_n be_v as_o unfit_a to_o keep_v memory_n of_o the_o creation_n as_o the_o sabbath_n day_n or_o saturday_n be_v in_o their_o account_n unfit_a to_o keep_v memory_n of_o the_o redemption_n 2._o the_o day_n which_o be_v set_v a_o part_n to_o celebrate_v the_o memory_n of_o the_o creation_n it_o must_v have_v a_o aptenesse_n in_o it_o by_o way_n of_o similitude_n to_o represent_v it_o unto_o we_o like_v as_o the_o sacrament_n have_v aptenesse_n in_o they_o to_o represent_v unto_o we_o the_o redemtion_n now_o god_n finish_v his_o work_n of_o creation_n and_o rest_v on_o the_o seven_o day_n or_o saturday_n and_o of_o all_o day_n in_o the_o week_n we_o have_v none_o that_o have_v such_o similitude_n and_o likeness_n to_o god_n seven_o day_n as_o be_v our_o saturday_n which_o be_v the_o same_o seven_o day_n in_o order_n with_o god_n &_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o only_a fit_a day_n for_o this_o purpose_n now_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v so_o far_o from_o any_o similitude_n with_o god_n rest_v day_n which_o be_v on_o the_o seven_o &_o last_o day_n of_o the_o week_n genes_n 2_o 3._o as_o it_o be_v the_o first_o day_n &_o begin_n of_o the_o week_n 3._o suppose_v that_o man_n can_v invent_v some_o other_o day_n as_o fit_a as_o the_o seven_o day_n appoint_v by_o god_n will_v they_o reject_v god_n choice_n for_o one_o of_o their_o own_o can_v they_o show_v we_o some_o other_o day_n as_o fit_v in_o god_n account_n they_o shall_v speak_v to_o some_o purpose_n but_o to_o reject_v that_o mean_n appoint_v of_o god_n because_o they_o can_v find_v a_o other_o which_o please_v they_o as_o well_o be_v audaciouse_a presumption_n why_o by_o like_a reason_n may_v they_o not_o as_o well_o change_v the_o element_n in_o the_o sacrament_n for_o other_o as_o well_o may_v they_o reject_v christ_n choice_n as_o god_n choice_n but_o happy_o some_o may_v object_v that_o some_o help_n for_o the_o keep_n in_o memory_n of_o the_o creation_n be_v abolish_v as_o for_o example_n the_o sabbath_n day_n for_o all_o sabbath_n be_v abolish_v in_o col._n 2.16.17_o hereunto_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o folly_n of_o this_o objection_n have_v former_o be_v answer_v here_o therefore_o a_o word_n or_o two_o shall_v be_v fufficient_a 1._o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o text_n col._n 2.16.17_o speak_v not_o of_o sign_n but_o of_o shadow_n &_o as_o former_o it_o have_v be_v show_v there_o be_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o sign_n &_o shadow_n worship_n of_o god_n and_o when_o common_a and_o unhallowed_a day_n be_v offer_v and_o consecrate_v unto_o god_n in_o stead_n of_o pure_a and_o sanctify_a day_n loe_o how_o god_n worship_n be_v pollute_v xi_o yet_o further_o if_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o appear_v that_o multitude_n i_o do_v not_o say_v all_o be_v guilty_a of_o idolatry_n until_o a_o reformation_n come_v than_o you_o will_v say_v with_o i_o it_o be_v high_a time_n indeed_o to_o seek_v for_o a_o reformation_n for_o this_o purpose_n you_o must_v know_v that_o there_o be_v as_o well_o a_o puritan_n idolatry_n as_o a_o popish_a idolatry_n for_o as_o when_o a_o crucifix_n the_o breaden_a god_n the_o image_n of_o christ_n the_o virgin_n mary_n &_o the_o rest_n come_v in_o presence_n instant_o papist_n uncover_v the_o head_n and_o perform_v much_o honour_n in_o respect_n of_o they_o so_o no_o soon_o do_v the_o lord_n day_n sabbath_n come_v but_o forthwith_o puritan_n unclothe_v themselves_o of_o their_o base_a array_n and_o attire_n themselves_o in_o their_o best_a apparel_n and_o they_o lie_v aside_o all_o servile_a labour_n for_o that_o time_n as_o a_o profanation_n of_o that_o sacred_a time_n and_o much_o religiouse_a honour_n and_o devotion_n be_v perform_v in_o respect_n of_o this_o day_n presence_n yea_o great_a conscience_n be_v make_v of_o it_o pardon_v i_o belove_v the_o sin_n of_o god_n image_n and_o likeness_n of_o a_o thing_n or_o of_o a_o imagination_n and_o fiction_n of_o the_o brain_n thus_o you_o have_v the_o signification_n of_o the_o word_n idolatry_n now_o when_o divine_a that_o preach_v for_o it_o and_o practice_v it_o be_v the_o idolater_n to_o make_v this_o good_a you_o shall_v see_v how_o fit_o these_o may_v be_v call_v idolater_n and_o their_o practice_n which_o he_o have_v forge_v of_o his_o own_o heart_n 1_o king_n 12_o 33._o so_o this_o lord_n day_n be_v the_o sabbath_n day_n which_o man_n have_v forge_v of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o thus_o we_o have_v clear_v and_o make_v apparent_a the_o two_o first_o thing_n in_o this_o idolatry_n to_o wit_n that_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v a_o image_n and_o likeness_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v a_o imagination_n and_o fiction_n or_o a_o idol_n and_o nothing_o i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o three_o thing_n which_o make_v complete_a idolatry_n and_o that_o be_v honour_n and_o reverence_n for_o that_o be_v proper_o idolatry_n when_o religiouse_a honour_n and_o reverence_n be_v attribute_v unto_o image_n and_o similitude_n or_o unto_o imagination_n and_o fiction_n of_o the_o brain_n or_o unto_o idol_n and_o nothing_o as_o when_o man_n reverence_v these_o as_o divine_a thing_n and_o as_o ordinance_n of_o god_n now_o i_o shall_v easy_o demonstrate_v unto_o you_o that_o man_n give_v honour_n &_o reverence_n unto_o this_o lord_n day_n yea_o no_o civil_a honour_n but_o divine_a &_o religiouse_a honour_n for_o 1._o the_o patroness_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n they_o do_v esteem_v one_o
