m._n which_o be_v the_o first_o p._n it_o be_v to_o that_o end_n that_o man_n deceive_v not_o himself_o make_v himself_o to_o believe_v that_o he_o have_v true_a faith_n in_o god_n when_o he_o have_v none_o at_o all_o m._n how_o may_v he_o know_v whether_o he_o have_v faith_n or_o no_o d._n by_o that_o mean_a which_o thou_o speak_v of_o p._n even_o as_o the_o tree_n be_v know_v by_o his_o fruit_n whether_o he_o have_v faith_n or_o no_o b._n than_o himself_o p._n if_o other_o may_v know_v it_o by_o this_o mean_a there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o such_o a_o testimony_n which_o he_o yield_v to_o other_o may_v well_o serve_v he_o for_o a_o proof_n and_o great_a confirmation_n of_o his_o faith_n when_o he_o shall_v see_v these_o fruit_n himself_o m._n which_o be_v the_o other_o reason_n that_o thou_o have_v also_o to_o this_o purpose_n p._n it_o be_v to_o the_o end_n that_o god_n be_v glorify_v also_o before_o man_n by_o the_o confession_n and_o testimony_n of_o the_o faith_n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o believe_a man._n of_o the_o mean_n ordain_v to_o man_n by_o god_n whereby_o they_o may_v make_v profession_n of_o their_o faith_n m._n what_o mean_n have_v he_o ordain_v to_o make_v confession_n d._n and_o to_o yield_v testimony_n p._n the_o chief_a be_v the_o assembly_n of_o the_o faithful_a in_o the_o which_o he_o do_v precide_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o by_o the_o gospel_n c._n m_o which_o be_v the_o second_o p._n the_o public_a and_o common_a prayer_n of_o the_o church_n m._n which_o be_v the_o third_o p._n it_o be_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o sacrament_n administer_v by_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n in_o those_o assembly_n m._n i_o will_v willing_o learn_v of_o thou_o which_o be_v these_o sacrament_n p._n it_o be_v better_a that_o we_o defer_v this_o matter_n to_o a_o other_o time_n to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o continue_v the_o purpose_n which_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n at_o this_o present_n touch_v the_o matter_n comprise_v in_o these_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god._n of_o the_o charity_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n m._n we_o have_v already_o handle_v two_o point_n touch_v the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n tell_v i_o now_o which_o be_v the_o third_o and_o last_o b._n p._n it_o be_v the_o charity_n that_o god_n require_v of_o every_o man_n one_o to_o another_o m._n see_v that_o faith_n have_v his_o proper_a regard_n to_o god_n only_o and_o to_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o first_o table_n and_o charity_n have_v his_o regard_n to_o our_o neighbour_n and_o to_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o second_o table_n as_o thou_o have_v say_v heretofore_o tell_v i_o now_o what_o agréement_n there_o be_v between_o faith_n and_o charity_n a._n p._n see_v that_o faith_n have_v regard_n to_o god_n he_o can_v not_o be_v without_o perfect_v love_n of_o he_o neither_o the_o perfect_a love_n towards_o he_o may_v be_v but_o forthwith_o it_o extend_v to_o all_o his_o child_n and_o to_o all_o those_o that_o he_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o separate_v they_o the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o be_v so_o abominable_a of_o his_o own_o nature_n and_o worthy_a of_o so_o grievous_a punyshement_fw-mi what_o may_v it_o apply_v to_o that_o end_n that_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v on_o the_o other_o side_n that_o which_o he_o have_v forbid_v be_v weigh_v in_o the_o same_o sort_n may_v never_o in_o any_o wise_a be_v good_a by_o what_o rule_n the_o work_n of_o man_n ought_v to_o be_v examine_v and_o how_o dangerous_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o follow_v the_o judgement_n of_o man_n reason_n t._n we_o ought_v then_o to_o be_v well_o advise_v and_o to_o take_v good_a heed_n how_o we_o do_v establish_v judgement_n upon_o man_n reason_n and_o upon_o the_o opinion_n of_o man_n in_o such_o matter_n d._n it_o be_v very_o true_a for_o it_o be_v often_o time_n see_v that_o man_n judge_v that_o good_a which_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v disallow_v that_o which_o god_n allow_v and_o allow_v that_o which_o he_o disallow_v for_o the_o cause_n before_o mention_v for_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n the_o sentence_n shall_v not_o be_v give_v according_a to_o the_o judgement_n of_o man_n reason_n and_o of_o the_o opinion_n of_o man_n but_o according_a to_o the_o pronunciation_n which_o god_n have_v already_o pronounce_v by_o his_o word_n and_o by_o his_o law_n which_o shall_v be_v the_o weight_n the_o balance_n and_o the_o rule_n wherein_o and_o whereby_o all_o the_o thought_n word_n and_o
wherein_o he_o have_v show_v the_o difference_n that_o be_v between_o the_o creator_n and_o the_o creature_n and_o between_o the_o nature_n and_o goodness_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o for_o if_o god_n have_v create_v the_o angel_n of_o such_o perfection_n as_o he_o be_v and_o of_o a_o goodness_n so_o unchangeable_a of_o his_o nature_n that_o it_o can_v never_o have_v be_v change_v into_o preservation_n of_o those_o which_o do_v continue_v firm_a and_o steadfast_a and_o how_o he_o have_v declare_v the_o justice_n of_o his_o judgement_n towards_o the_o one_o sort_n &_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n towards_o the_o other_o t._n if_o the_o man_n which_o be_v so_o trouble_v with_o the_o doctrine_n of_o predestination_n do_v well_o consider_v that_o which_o thou_o say_v they_o first_o in_o their_o creation_n which_o they_o have_v common_a with_o the_o rest_n that_o be_v fall_v before_o they_o do_v fall_v the_o second_o be_v in_o the_o conservation_n of_o the_o nature_n only_a angel_n but_o wicked_a angel_n &_o devil_n because_o that_o they_o do_v not_o persevere_v in_o the_o first_o goodness_n wherein_o they_o be_v create_v but_o turn_v from_o he_o from_o whence_o the_o same_o proceed_v they_o be_v put_v from_o it_o &_o in_o the_o stead_n of_o the_o same_o malice_n &_o wickedness_n be_v come_v in_o place_n which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o lack_n &_o privation_n of_o goodness_n which_o be_v change_v into_o a_o evil_a quality_n which_o do_v corrupt_v the_o creature_n that_o be_v create_v good_a &_o make_v the_o nature_n contrary_a which_o be_v before_o like_a 8._o for_o the_o same_o cause_n jesus_n christ_n have_v say_v that_o the_o devil_n be_v a_o liar_n from_o the_o beginning_n that_o be_v to_o say_v even_o from_o the_o time_n that_o he_o be_v first_o a_o devil_n and_o not_o from_o the_o time_n that_o he_o be_v first_o make_v a_o angel_n &_o that_o when_o he_o do_v speak_v lie_n he_o speak_v that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o and_o therefore_o he_o add_v unto_o it_o that_o he_o do_v not_o abide_v still_o in_o the_o truth_n for_o he_o have_v nothing_o of_o god_n which_o be_v truth_n but_o that_o which_o he_o now_o have_v of_o evil_a be_v of_o himself_o how_o that_o the_o devil_n may_v not_o impute_v the_o fault_n and_o fall_n of_o his_o damnation_n but_o to_o himself_o and_o how_o it_o be_v manifest_a by_o that_o fall_n like_a gift_n which_o we_o must_v understand_v not_o of_o the_o essence_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n d_o but_o of_o his_o work_n and_o effect_n m._n thy_o meaning_n be_v then_o that_o we_o must_v distinguish_v between_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o his_o gift_n &_o grace_n p._n we_o must_v so_o understand_v for_o when_o we_o say_v according_a to_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o conclude_v that_o they_o be_v all_o comprehend_v in_o that_o number_n or_o at_o the_o least_o they_o say_v so_o m._n thou_o have_v yet_o for_o all_o that_o a_o number_n of_o other_o which_o be_v not_o there_o comprehend_v saint_n paul_n speak_v yet_o of_o many_o other_o chief_o in_o the_o epistle_n write_v to_o the_o roman_n b._n &_o to_o the_o corinth_n which_o be_v not_o comprehend_v in_o this_o number_n as_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o tong_n of_o prophecy_n of_o heal_v &_o such_o like_a which_o he_o say_v be_v all_o of_o oneself_o spirit_n which_o give_v and_o distribute_v to_o every_o man_n according_a as_o be_v expedient_a for_o he_o m._n he_o do_v not_o then_o distribute_v they_o all_o to_o every_o man._n p._n see_v he_o do_v distribute_v they_o according_a as_o it_o be_v expedient_a it_o follow_v that_o he_o distribute_v to_o every_o man_n so_o much_o as_o be_v necessary_a of_o the_o diversity_n of_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o of_o the_o difference_n of_o they_o m._n sing_v he_o distribute_v they_o not_o to_o all_o it_o follow_v then_o that_o they_o be_v not_o all_o necessary_a to_o man_n salvation_n for_o if_o they_o be_v all_o necessary_a thereunto_o no_o man_n can_v be_v save_v except_o he_o have_v they_o all_o p._n thou_o have_v here_o to_o note_v that_o albeit_o there_o be_v but_o one_o only_a and_o one_o very_a spirit_n of_o god_n which_o of_o the_o good_a which_o they_o will_v not_o follow_v and_o condemn_v the_o evil_a which_o they_o do_v m._n it_o seem_v to_o i_o also_o that_o they_o which_o offend_v more_o of_o malice_n than_o of_o ignorance_n be_v further_o of_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n &_o that_o they_o have_v more_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o devil_n than_o the_o other_o p._n it_o be_v even_o so_o for_o the_o devil_n have_v much_o more_o malice_n than_o ignorance_n m._n i_o think_v in_o deed_n that_o he_o do_v not_o often_o offend_v of_o ignorance_n but_o only_o of_o malice_n that_o be_v in_o he_o p._n and_o therefore_o i_o say_v heretofore_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o wherein_o man_n do_v more_o resemble_v god_n and_o wherein_o he_o do_v better_o express_v his_o image_n than_o in_o goodness_n the_o elect_a and_o the_o reprobate_n and_o how_o the_o wicked_a corrupt_a and_o abuse_v the_o gift_n of_o god._n m._n and_o do_v he_o communicate_v his_o other_o virtue_n to_o the_o reprobate_n p._n to_o speak_v propre_o god_n do_v not_o communicate_v his_o virtue_n to_o the_o wicked_a and_o to_o the_o reprobate_n for_o albeit_o he_o bestow_v upon_o they_o of_o his_o gift_n and_o of_o his_o grace_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o virtue_n in_o their_o person_n as_o they_o be_v in_o god_n and_o in_o his_o elect_v m._n why_o so_o p._n because_o they_o do_v abuse_v and_o pervert_v they_o as_o do_v the_o devil_n in_o such_o sort_n that_o whereas_o they_o shall_v serve_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n it_o be_v no_o thank_n to_o they_o that_o they_o dishonour_v he_o not_o by_o they_o and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n because_o they_o do_v so_o foul_a they_o not_o report_v they_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n as_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v but_o do_v clean_o contrary_a they_o do_v infect_v and_o enpoyson_v they_o as_z much_o as_o in_o they_o be_v by_o the_o venom_n which_o the_o devil_n have_v put_v into_o their_o heart_n and_o understanding_n in_o such_o sort_n that_o they_o be_v in_o they_o so_o far_o as_o concern_v their_o person_n as_o a_o meat_n which_o of_o his_o nature_n be_v good_a may_v be_v corrupt_v by_o poison_n m._n declare_v this_o to_o i_o some_o thing_n more_o easy_o and_o give_v i_o some_o example_n p._n we_o consider_v in_o god_n chief_o his_o power_n his_o wisdom_n and_o his_o goodness_n which_o be_v three_o excellent_a virtue_n to_o the_o which_o all_o the_o other_o may_v be_v refer_v now_o if_o his_o goodness_n be_v not_o join_v with_o his_o power_n and_o his_o wisdom_n his_o power_n shall_v be_v tyranny_n and_o his_o wisdom_n cautele_o &_o craft_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o devil_n but_o the_o goodness_n that_o be_v in_o he_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o he_o never_o abuse_v his_o power_n &_o his_o wisdom_n but_o make_v it_o always_o to_o serve_v his_o justice_n and_o clemency_n his_o mercy_n and_o charity_n and_o all_o his_o other_o like_a virtue_n which_o proceed_v all_o from_o that_o infinite_a goodness_n which_o be_v in_o he_o which_o be_v the_o fountain_n and_o which_o be_v goodness_n itself_o m._n will_v thou_o say_v by_o this_o that_o god_n do_v communicate_v of_o his_o power_n of_o his_o knowledge_n and_o of_o his_o wisdom_n to_o the_o their_o power_n be_v violence_n and_o tyranny_n and_o their_o wisdom_n and_o understand_a cautel_n and_o malice_n for_o the_o true_a power_n and_o wisdom_n may_v never_o be_v separate_a from_o goodness_n and_o other_o virtue_n what_o cause_n man_n have_v to_o glory_n of_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o of_o what_o quality_n and_o which_o be_v those_o man_n that_o ought_v to_o be_v most_o fall_n of_o the_o evil_a angel_n and_o in_o the_o conservation_n of_o the_o good_a d._n that_o which_o thou_o say_v be_v true_a and_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o man_n shall_v have_v be_v even_o like_a unto_o the_o devil_n unto_o who_o he_o do_v join_v himself_o if_o god_n have_v clean_o leave_v he_o and_o forsake_v he_o in_o that_o estate_n whereunto_o through_o his_o ingratitude_n and_o rebellion_n he_o have_v bring_v himself_o as_o he_o do_v leave_v and_o forsake_v the_o devil_n but_o god_o have_v again_o in_o this_o use_v a_o marvelous_a counsel_n and_o mean_v he_o do_v not_o suffer_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o angel_n that_o he_o have_v create_v that_o all_o shall_v fall_v but_o do_v preserve_v a_o part_n in_o such_o sort_n that_o they_o do_v not_o part_n take_v of_o the_o transgression_n and_o corruption_n of_o the_o other_o and_o as_o he_o do_v so_o conserve_v those_o which_o do_v continue_v in_o their_o first_o estate_n that_o they_o can_v not_o fall_v even_o so_o their_o fall_n have_v not_o be_v so_o great_a and_o horrible_a as_o it_o be_v nor_o the_o offence_n so_o odious_a and_o so_o detestable_a before_o god_n also_o his_o justice_n his_o grace_n and_o his_o mercy_n have_v not_o be_v so_o well_o declare_v for_o it_o be_v requisite_a that_o the_o angel_n which_o do_v offend_v shall_v carry_v upon_o they_o a_o perpetual_a testimony_n of_o their_o transgression_n and_o rebellion_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v know_v how_o good_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o dwell_v unite_v with_o god_n and_o how_o evil_a to_o be_v separate_v from_o he_o all_o these_o thing_n together_o the_o first_o that_o there_o be_v no_o creature_n whatsoever_o he_o be_v that_o can_v of_o himself_o be_v maintain_v how_o excellent_a so_o ever_o he_o be_v further_o that_o he_o have_v always_o power_n to_o preserve_v they_o all_o in_o their_o estate_n if_o it_o please_v he_o and_o to_o restore_v they_o although_o they_o have_v offend_v and_o transgress_v the_o which_o can_v be_v do_v by_o none_o other_o mean_a but_o by_o his_o only_a power_n and_o grace_n then_o even_o as_o man_n may_v be_v recover_v and_o restore_v to_o his_o first_o estate_n through_o his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n even_o so_o on_o the_o contrary_a abide_v still_o in_o his_o nature_n such_o as_o it_o be_v at_o this_o present_n he_o may_v by_o mean_a of_o his_o wicked_a will_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o evil_a without_o any_o constrainte_fw-fr other_o than_o of_o his_o own_o malice_n how_o that_o all_o that_o which_o have_v be_v do_v as_o well_o in_o the_o fall_n and_o for_o his_o fellow_n but_o for_o his_o guide_n his_o leader_n his_o master_n &_o his_o lord_n wherefore_o even_o as_o before_o abide_v unite_v and_o join_v to_o god_n and_o have_v god_n in_o he_o and_o be_v govern_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n he_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o good_a and_o that_o without_o enforcement_n or_o constraint_n even_o so_o by_o the_o contrary_a be_v separate_v from_o god_n &_o join_v with_o the_o devil_n be_v lead_n and_o govern_v by_o he_o he_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o evil_a and_o do_v it_o of_o his_o own_o will_n without_o conconstraint_n of_o any_o but_o
