evil_a way_n wherein_o wicked_a man_n be_v not_o wont_a upon_o some_o pretence_n or_o other_o to_o flatter_v themselves_o according_a to_o that_o chap._n 12.15_o the_o way_n of_o a_o fool_n be_v right_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n yet_o because_o there_o be_v some_o gross_a way_n of_o wickedness_n which_o be_v so_o direct_o against_o the_o very_a light_n of_o nature_n that_o the_o worst_a of_o man_n can_v but_o judge_v they_o to_o be_v evil_a therefore_o i_o rather_o think_v that_o solomon_n aim_v here_o be_v to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v some_o way_n which_o though_o they_o be_v verse_n 13._o even_o in_o laughter_n the_o heart_n be_v sorrowful_a and_o the_o end_n of_o that_o mirth_n be_v heaviness_n because_o excessive_a laughter_n do_v natural_o cause_n pain_n in_o the_o with_o terror_n and_o torture_n of_o conscience_n and_o at_o last_o be_v follow_v with_o god_n wrath_n and_o vengeance_n and_o then_o their_o sorrow_n be_v pure_a sorrow_n without_o any_o allay_n of_o hope_n or_o comfort_n and_o the_o drift_n of_o note_v all_o this_o here_o be_v to_o teach_v we_o rather_o to_o seek_v after_o those_o joy_n that_o be_v solid_a and_o permanent_a and_o that_o will_v cheer_v up_o the_o heart_n even_o in_o outward_a distress_n verse_n 14._o the_o backslider_n in_o heart_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v the_o man_n that_o turn_v away_o his_o heart_n from_o god_n &_o great_a man_n a_o man_n in_o authority_n it_o may_v well_o be_v that_o eliphaz_n intend_v in_o these_o word_n to_o give_v a_o hint_n to_o job_n that_o as_o he_o have_v deal_v hardly_o and_o cruel_o with_o other_o so_o now_o the_o lord_n have_v according_o deal_v with_o he_o and_o that_o last_o clause_n concern_v the_o break_n of_o the_o tooth_n of_o the_o lion_n whelp_n or_o the_o young_a lion_n may_v seem_v purposely_o add_v because_o of_o the_o destruction_n that_o fall_v upon_o job_n child_n when_o they_o be_v feast_v together_o verse_n 12._o now_o a_o thing_n be_v secret_o bring_v to_o i_o that_o be_v in_o a_o vision_n and_o that_o too_o in_o the_o secrecy_n &_o solitariness_n of_o the_o night_n and_o perhaps_o also_o in_o a_o secret_a manner_n with_o a_o still_a and_o low_o small_a voice_n not_o easy_o discernible_a for_o here_o eliphaz_n begin_v to_o relate_v a_o vision_n he_o have_v former_o have_v wherein_o among_o other_o thing_n this_o be_v reveal_v to_o he_o that_o it_o be_v a_o vain_a and_o audacious_a part_n for_o man_n to_o contend_v with_o god_n when_o he_o correct_v they_o as_o if_o they_o be_v just_a than_o god_n and_o that_o to_o prove_v that_o by_o god_n deal_v with_o job_n it_o be_v evident_a enough_o that_o he_o have_v give_v the_o lord_n just_a cause_n to_o proceed_v with_o such_o severity_n against_o he_o and_o likewise_o to_o show_v what_o a_o foul_a sin_n it_o be_v in_o job_n to_o murmur_v so_o against_o god_n as_o he_o have_v do_v and_o my_o ear_n receive_v a_o little_a thereof_o hereby_o be_v not_o so_o much_o mean_v that_o he_o only_o hear_v some_o little_a part_n of_o that_o which_o be_v speak_v to_o he_o as_o that_o by_o his_o ear_n he_o do_v receive_v into_o his_o mind_n that_o be_v understand_v and_o lay_v up_o in_o his_o heart_n somewhat_o of_o that_o which_o in_o his_o vision_n be_v impart_v to_o he_o acknowledge_v modest_o that_o he_o do_v not_o full_o and_o perfect_o either_o comprehend_v or_o retain_v what_o god_n be_v please_v in_o this_o prophetical_a way_n to_o reveal_v unto_o he_o verse_n 13._o in_o thought_n from_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o night_n etc._n etc._n that_o job_n may_v not_o doubt_v but_o the_o vision_n he_o now_o speak_v of_o be_v from_o god_n and_o so_o the_o more_o regard_n what_o be_v then_o reveal_v to_o he_o eliphaz_n here_o describe_v the_o manner_n of_o his_o vision_n to_o wit_n that_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o night_n when_o deep_a sleep_n fall_v on_o man_n that_o be_v when_o man_n use_v to_o be_v most_o sound_o a-sleep_o in_o thought_n cause_v by_o a_o nightly_a vision_n but_o whether_o wake_v or_o sleep_v it_o be_v not_o express_v a_o spirit_n vers_fw-la 15._o pass_v before_o his_o face_n that_o be_v a_o angel_n appear_v and_o come_v to_o he_o he_o be_v at_o the_o same_o time_n strike_v with_o extreme_a terror_n and_o fear_n fear_n come_v upon_o i_o say_v he_o and_o tremble_a etc._n etc._n which_o last_o be_v the_o rather_o mention_v because_o when_o god_n in_o former_a time_n appear_v to_o man_n in_o dream_n and_o vision_n he_o do_v always_o thus_o humble_a and_o cast_v they_o down_o with_o fear_n that_o by_o those_o impression_n of_o terror_n cause_v by_o the_o apprehension_n of_o his_o majesty_n and_o glory_n they_o may_v be_v assure_o persuade_v that_o the_o vision_n be_v from_o god_n and_o so_o the_o more_o reverent_o
may_v be_v assign_v for_o these_o thing_n and_o 2_o thus_o although_o affliction_n and_o trouble_n spring_v not_o mere_o and_o only_o from_o the_o creature_n below_o yet_o we_o see_v plain_o that_o man_n be_v full_a of_o trouble_n and_o therefore_o sure_o it_o come_v from_o heaven_n from_o god_n who_o dispose_v all_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o own_o good_a pleasure_n and_o 3._o thus_o although_o affliction_n spring_v not_o from_o the_o dust_n or_o any_o thing_n without_o man_n yet_o we_o see_v it_o be_v always_o man_n portion_n and_o therefore_o questionless_a it_o spring_v from_o himself_o even_o the_o sin_n that_o be_v within_o he_o or_o 4._o thus_o which_o be_v much_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n with_o the_o former_a although_o the_o calamity_n and_o misery_n which_o man_n be_v subject_a to_o spring_v not_o mere_o from_o the_o earthly_a condition_n of_o man_n body_n for_o notwithstanding_o this_o have_v man_n continue_v in_o his_o innocency_n he_o shall_v have_v be_v free_a from_o all_o misery_n yet_o man_n be_v bear_v to_o trouble_v to_o wit_n because_o he_o be_v bear_v in_o sin_n as_o natural_o as_o the_o spark_n fly_v upward_o it_o be_v as_o natural_a for_o man_n to_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o misery_n as_o for_o the_o spark_n to_o fly_v upward_o yea_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v derive_v to_o we_o by_o a_o lineal_a descent_n from_o our_o parent_n as_o our_o inheritance_n or_o birthright_n man_n be_v bear_v unto_o trouble_n and_o thus_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n be_v compare_v to_o coal_n his_o sin_n and_o corruption_n to_o fire_n in_o the_o coal_n and_o his_o affliction_n and_o trouble_n to_o the_o spark_n that_o fly_v up_o from_o the_o fire_n and_o job_n be_v teach_v to_o acknowledge_v that_o he_o can_v not_o just_o ascribe_v the_o calamity_n that_o be_v fall_v upon_o he_o to_o any_o thing_n else_o but_o his_o own_o wickedness_n and_o to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n in_o punish_v he_o for_o it_o verse_n 8._o i_o will_v seek_v unto_o god_n and_o unto_o god_n will_v i_o commit_v my_o cause_n that_o be_v be_v i_o in_o your_o case_n job_n i_o will_v not_o murmur_v and_o complain_v of_o god_n deal_v with_o i_o as_o you_o do_v but_o follow_a enumeration_n of_o many_o several_a work_n of_o god_n providence_n be_v to_o prove_v the_o infinite_a power_n wisdom_n goodness_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n and_o so_o thence_o to_o imply_v that_o it_o be_v not_o fit_a man_n shall_v quarrel_v with_o he_o the_o reason_n of_o who_o work_n they_o can_v search_v out_o but_o rather_o seek_v to_o he_o for_o help_v who_o be_v so_o good_a and_o able_a at_o his_o pleasure_n to_o raise_v they_o up_o again_o from_o the_o great_a misery_n verse_n 10._o and_o send_v water_n upon_o the_o field_n too_o wit_n not_o rain_n only_o but_o spring_v also_o brook_n and_o river_n to_o water_v the_o several_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n verse_n 11._o to_o set_v up_o on_o high_a those_o that_o be_v low_a that_o those_o which_o mourn_n may_v be_v exalt_v to_o safety_n these_o word_n may_v be_v refer_v either_o to_o the_o immediate_o forego_v clause_n vers_fw-la 10._o who_o give_v rain_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o send_v water_n upon_o the_o field_n to_o wit_n thereby_o to_o enrich_v those_o that_o be_v poor_a by_o cause_v their_o land_n to_o yield_v plentiful_a increase_n and_o to_o save_v those_o that_o be_v ready_a to_o perish_v for_o and_o thus_o eliphaz_n give_v job_n a_o hint_n for_o his_o comfort_n and_o encouragement_n that_o if_o he_o will_v seek_v to_o god_n as_o he_o have_v advise_v vers_fw-la 8._o though_o his_o estate_n be_v now_o very_o low_o yet_o he_o may_v be_v set_v up_o again_o and_o from_o that_o sad_a condition_n wherein_o he_o lay_v he_o may_v be_v exalt_v to_o joy_n and_o safety_n verse_n 13._o he_o take_v the_o wise_a in_o their_o own_o craftiness_n that_o be_v he_o cause_v the_o crafty_a plot_n of_o the_o subtle_a wise_a man_n of_o the_o world_n to_o become_v mischievous_a to_o themselves_o as_o it_o weigh_v be_v never_o likely_a to_o prove_v successful_a or_o by_o their_o rashness_n and_o precipitancy_n in_o act_v what_o they_o have_v well_o enough_o contrive_v verse_n 14._o they_o meet_v with_o darkness_n in_o the_o day_n time_n and_o grope_v at_o noon_n day_n as_o in_o the_o night_n that_o be_v where_o thing_n shall_v be_v clear_a and_o manifest_a yet_o they_o shall_v not_o see_v it_o but_o steadfast_a heb._n 6.19_o and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o wicked_a shall_v not_o have_v a_o word_n to_o say_v they_o shall_v not_o dare_v to_o slander_v the_o godly_a they_o shall_v not_o dare_v to_o vaunt_v and_o brag_v of_o their_o proud_a purpose_n but_o shall_v become_v silent_a as_o mute_a as_o fish_n as_o be_v fill_v with_o shame_n and_o confusion_n or_o silence_v with_o admiration_n far_o mind_v he_o as_o to_o take_v vengeance_n on_o he_o for_o his_o sin_n verse_n 4._o who_o can_v bring_v a_o clean_a thing_n out_o of_o a_o unclean_a not_o one_o that_o be_v there_o be_v not_o one_o bear_v of_o sinful_a parent_n after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n but_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v sinful_a as_o they_o be_v or_o not_o one_o who_o can_v any_o way_n procure_v that_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o parent_n pollute_v with_o original_a sin_n shall_v not_o himself_o be_v pollute_a and_o unclean_a yea_o and_o it_o may_v refer_v to_o man_n action_n too_o that_o a_o man_n unclean_a himself_o and_o to_o make_v his_o heart_n stoop_v under_o the_o severity_n of_o god_n proceed_n with_o he_o since_o be_v so_o unclean_a it_o be_v no_o wonder_n though_o the_o most_o holy_a god_n shall_v lay_v his_o hand_n so_o heavy_a upon_o he_o and_o 2._o to_o intimate_v that_o though_o god_n may_v most_o just_o condemn_v such_o a_o filthy_a wretch_n as_o he_o be_v if_o he_o shall_v expositor_n conceive_v that_o elihu_n do_v misinterpret_v job_n word_n make_v account_n that_o job_n do_v direct_o indeed_o maintain_v that_o he_o be_v pure_a and_o free_a from_o sin_n whereas_o he_o only_o mean_v by_o those_o speech_n to_o justify_v himself_o thus_o far_o that_o he_o have_v not_o be_v a_o wicked_a man_n and_o a_o hypocrite_n as_o his_o friend_n affirm_v and_o consequent_o that_o it_o be_v not_o for_o any_o such_o grievous_a enormity_n of_o his_o life_n that_o god_n hand_n have_v be_v so_o grievous_a upon_o he_o yet_o because_o job_n have_v so_o often_o in_o the_o hear_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o iniquity_n in_o he_o but_o only_o that_o out_o of_o a_o over-eager_a desire_n to_o maintain_v his_o innocency_n against_o the_o calumny_n of_o his_o friend_n he_o have_v talk_v so_o much_o of_o that_o in_o his_o expostulation_n with_o god_n for_o deal_v so_o hardly_o with_o he_o and_o in_o his_o frequent_a protestation_n how_o earnest_o he_o desire_v that_o he_o may_v plead_v his_o cause_n with_o god_n as_o if_o he_o think_v himself_o perfect_o pure_a and_o spotless_a and_o that_o god_n can_v not_o in_o justice_n punish_v he_o as_o he_o have_v do_v so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o for_o think_v himself_o clear_a from_o sin_n or_o for_o maintain_v his_o integrity_n against_o his_o friend_n that_o elihu_n here_o reprove_v job_n but_o it_o be_v for_o his_o allege_v of_o this_o in_o a_o way_n of_o impatience_n and_o murmur_a to_o the_o impeach_a of_o god_n justice_n and_o therefore_o though_o job_n other_o friend_n do_v seem_v to_o object_v the_o same_o thing_n to_o job_n that_o elihu_n do_v here_o as_o we_o see_v in_o that_o of_o zophar_n chap._n 11.4_o thou_o have_v say_v my_o doctrine_n be_v pure_a and_o i_o be_o clean_a in_o thy_o eye_n and_o deliver_v he_o from_o go_v down_o into_o the_o pit_n the_o meaning_n whereof_o may_v be_v either_o first_o that_o god_n determine_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v deliver_v from_o the_o grave_n whereinto_o he_o be_v drop_v and_o withal_o from_o the_o pit_n of_o eternal_a destruction_n or_o second_o that_o he_o give_v charge_n to_o the_o angel_n send_v to_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v deliver_v he_o from_o his_o dangerous_a sickness_n or_o three_o that_o he_o enjoin_v the_o man_n of_o god_n to_o deliver_v he_o that_o be_v to_o assure_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v deliver_v both_o from_o his_o fear_v the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n this_o question_n may_v imply_v the_o paucity_n of_o those_o that_o true_o fear_v god_n and_o withal_o their_o wonderful_a happiness_n what_o man_n be_v he_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v there_o be_v not_o many_o such_o but_o oh_o great_a be_v the_o happiness_n of_o that_o man_n that_o do_v thus_o fear_n god_n at_o least_o this_o question_n imply_v how_o universal_o true_a that_o which_o he_o say_v be_v concern_v those_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n what_o man_n be_v he_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v whoever_o he_o be_v that_o do_v this_o he_o shall_v he_o teach_v in_o the_o way_n that_o he_o shall_v choose_v that_o be_v he_o shall_v be_v teach_v of_o god_n in_o the_o way_n that_o god_n himself_o do_v prescribe_v or_o approve_v or_o rather_o god_n shall_v direct_v he_o what_o way_n to_o choose_v in_o all_o his_o business_n and_o straits_n whatsoever_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v leave_v to_o his_o own_o choice_n but_o god_n shall_v direct_v he_o what_o way_n to_o choose_v verse_n 13._o his_o soul_n shall_v dwell_v at_o ease_n the_o man_n that_o live_v in_o a_o prosperous_a condition_n be_v the_o righteous_a be_v often_o much_o afflict_v which_o their_o not_o fear_v god_n as_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v may_v bring_v upon_o they_o and_o have_v not_o all_o thing_n as_o they_o will_v themselves_o yet_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o inward_a sweet_a content_n of_o their_o mind_n they_o may_v be_v well_o say_v to_o dwell_v at_o ease_n

be_v indeed_o afraid_a of_o a_o shadow_n as_o be_v express_v in_o the_o follow_a verse_n verse_n 7._o none_o of_o they_o can_v by_o any_o mean_n redeem_v his_o brother_n etc._n etc._n to_o wit_n usual_o disappoint_v in_o those_o design_n they_o have_v best_a contrive_v 8._o because_o all_o such_o learning_n and_o knowledge_n be_v of_o a_o perish_a nature_n when_o old_a age_n come_v it_o usual_o decay_v and_o to_o be_v sure_a when_o death_n seize_v upon_o man_n it_o pass_v away_o be_v lose_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o and_o last_o and_o especial_o because_o he_o shall_v certain_o find_v at_o length_n that_o true_a happiness_n hereby_o can_v never_o be_v attain_v chap._n ii_o verse_n 1._o i_o say_v in_o my_o heart_n etc._n etc._n have_v find_v that_o happiness_n be_v not_o to_o sequel_n of_o the_o chapter_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o he_o mean_v to_o go_v no_o further_o in_o these_o thing_n than_o may_v stand_v with_o wisdom_n and_o piety_n and_o yet_o we_o see_v that_o even_o upon_o this_o course_n of_o he_o he_o at_o last_o pass_v this_o censure_n and_o behold_v this_o also_o be_v vanity_n that_o be_v there_o be_v no_o true_a tranquillity_n nor_o happiness_n to_o
