they_o shall_v have_v peace_n though_o they_o walk_v in_o the_o stubbornness_n of_o their_o heart_n but_o whosoever_o be_v thus_o quiet_a in_o himself_o through_o a_o false_a peace_n it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o 21_o the_o strong_a man_n keep_v the_o house_n and_o that_o he_o continue_v in_o this_o fool_n paradise_n be_v not_o far_o from_o 20_o sudden_a and_o fearful_a destruction_n from_o the_o thought_n satan_n may_v usual_o be_v know_v from_o they_o that_o arise_v out_o of_o man_n heart_n by_o their_o sodainenesse_n and_o uncessantnesse_n namely_o when_o they_o be_v repel_v they_o will_v external_a object_n or_o from_o some_o natural_a cause_n and_o be_v not_o so_o sudden_a and_o incessant_a nor_o be_v so_o unnatural_a inhuman_a and_o violent_a now_o all_o those_o evil_a thought_n or_o thought_n of_o evil_a rather_o which_o be_v from_o satan_n or_o from_o man_n put_v they_o into_o you_o if_o you_o consent_v not_o unto_o they_o but_o do_v abhor_v and_o resist_v they_o with_o detestation_n they_o be_v not_o your_o sin_n but_o satan_n and_o they_o that_o do_v put_v they_o into_o you_o they_o be_v your_o cross_n because_o they_o be_v matter_n of_o trouble_n to_o you_o but_o of_o godliness_n suppose_v that_o you_o be_v free_a from_o notorious_a crime_n as_o adultery_n lie_v swear_v etc._n etc._n for_o when_o he_o can_v by_o these_o more_o plausible_a way_n lead_v you_o captive_a at_o his_o will_n he_o see_v you_o be_v his_o sure_a enough_o already_o what_o need_n be_v there_o then_o that_o he_o shall_v solicit_v you_o any_o further_a or_o to_o disturb_v your_o quiet_n but_o now_o that_o you_o have_v renounce_v he_o in_o earnest_n and_o that_o he_o and_o you_o be_v two_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o he_o will_v attempt_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o reduce_v you_o into_o your_o old_a state_n or_o if_o he_o fail_v of_o that_o yet_o as_o long_o as_o you_o live_v so_o far_o as_o god_n shall_v permit_v he_o will_v do_v what_o he_o can_v to_o disturb_v your_o little_a any_o or_o all_o these_o without_o god_n can_v avail_v he_o nay_o it_o cause_v god_n not_o only_o to_o withdraw_v his_o own_o help_n but_o the_o help_n of_o all_o thing_n whereon_o such_o a_o man_n do_v rely_v and_o which_o be_v more_o cause_v they_o in_o stead_n of_o be_v for_o he_o to_o be_v utter_o against_o he_o be_v it_o not_o just_a with_o god_n that_o whosoever_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o god_n to_o bear_v their_o burden_n but_o will_v take_v it_o up_o and_o bear_v it_o themselves_o shall_v be_v make_v to_o bear_v it_o alone_o to_o the_o break_n of_o their_o back_n or_o at_o least_o to_o be_v much_o bow_v and_o crush_v under_o it_o wherefore_o all_o these_o thing_n weigh_v i_o return_v to_o the_o exhortation_n or_o conclusion_n before_o propound_v viz._n roll_v so_o good_a and_o so_o able_a a_o master_n need_v not_o care_n for_o our_o wage_n if_o we_o will_v make_v it_o our_o care_n to_o obey_v and_o please_v so_o good_a and_o so_o rich_a and_o bountiful_a a_o father_n we_o need_v not_o be_v careful_a for_o our_o maintenance_n here_o in_o our_o minority_n and_o nonage_n nor_o yet_o for_o our_o eternal_a inheritance_n when_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o full_a age_n we_o in_o this_o holy_a security_n and_o freedom_n from_o carefulness_n if_o we_o be_v not_o want_v to_o ourselves_o may_v live_v in_o a_o heaven_n upon_o earth_n and_o that_o not_o only_a when_o we_o have_v mean_n for_o even_o then_o our_o security_n be_v in_o god_n not_o in_o the_o mean_n but_o when_o to_o the_o eye_n of_o flesh_n we_o have_v no_o mean_n for_o god_n be_v above_o and_o more_o than_o all_o mean_n that_o you_o may_v leave_v cark_n and_o be_v bring_v to_o cast_v all_o your_o care_n on_o god_n 1_o deny_v yourself_o and_o your_o carefulness_n own_o 4_o wisdom_n be_v not_o wise_a in_o your_o own_o conceit_n nor_o presumptuous_a of_o your_o wit_n skill_n or_o mean_n 2_o get_v soùnd_a knowledge_n faith_n hope_n 32._o and_o confidence_n in_o god_n live_v by_o faith_n 39_o believe_a to_o the_o preservation_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n get_v not_o only_a faith_n in_o his_o promise_n but_o in_o his_o providence_n also_o when_o you_o shall_v see_v no_o way_n or_o mean_n of_o have_v the_o good_a you_o desire_v or_o of_o keep_v you_o from_o the_o evil_n which_o you_o fear_v or_o of_o deliver_v you_o from_o the_o evil_a you_o feel_v then_o call_v to_o mind_v not_o only_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n viz._n 5._o i_o be_o with_o you_o 5_o i_o will_v not_o leave_v nor_o forsake_v you_o and_o 28_o all_o thing_n work_v together_o for_o good_a and_o many_o such_o like_a but_o believe_v also_o that_o god_n will_v provide_v mean_n to_o bring_v to_o pass_v what_o he_o have_v promise_v though_o yet_o you_o see_v not_o how_o when_o you_o can_v say_v with_o faithful_a abraham_n 8_o god_n will_v provide_v you_o shall_v be_v out_o of_o fear_n and_o doubt_n but_o if_o with_o 2_o abraham_n in_o the_o case_n of_o the_o promise_n of_o issue_n of_o his_o body_n in_o who_o the_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n shall_v be_v bless_v you_o believe_v god_n promise_n in_o the_o main_a but_o not_o god_n providence_n in_o the_o mean_n than_o you_o will_v be_v so_o fearful_a doubtful_a and_o careful_a that_o of_o yourself_o or_o by_o other_o solicitation_n you_o will_v ready_o find_v out_o and_o use_v unlawful_a mean_n to_o obtain_v the_o thing_n promise_v as_o he_o do_v when_o he_o go_v in_o to_o hagar_n or_o to_o faint_v in_o wait_v as_o many_o other_o have_v do_v for_o we_o see_v the_o like_a in_o 11._o david_n when_o he_o have_v faith_n in_o god_n providence_n he_o can_v say_v of_o saul_n the_o lord_n shall_v smite_v he_o or_o his_o day_n shall_v come_v to_o die_v or_o he_o shall_v descend_v into_o the_o battle_n and_o perish_v the_o lord_n forbid_v that_o i_o shall_v stretch_v forth_o my_o hand_n against_o the_o lord_n anoint_v but_o when_o he_o doubt_v of_o god_n providence_n than_o he_o say_v 1._o i_o shall_v now_o perish_v one_o day_n by_o the_o hand_n of_o saul_n 3_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o make_v your_o call_v and_o election_n sure_a for_o when_o you_o know_v assure_o that_o god_n be_v your_o heavenly_a father_n and_o christ_n jesus_n your_o redeemer_n and_o that_o you_o be_v of_o his_o family_n have_v your_o name_n write_v in_o heaven_n you_o then_o shall_v easy_o free_v your_o 2_o heart_n from_o be_v trouble_v with_o fear_n and_o cark_n care_n be_v sure_a that_o your_o heavenly_a father_n and_o saviour_n
strength_n and_o mean_n be_v full_o employ_v in_o some_o lawful_a business_n 5._o out_o of_o the_o fit_a the_o party_n thus_o affect_v must_v not_o oppress_v his_o heart_n with_o fear_n of_o fall_v into_o it_o again_o any_o more_o than_o to_o quicken_v he_o to_o prayer_n and_o to_o cause_v he_o to_o cast_v himself_o upon_o god_n 6._o out_o of_o the_o fit_n and_o in_o they_o also_o if_o the_o party_n distemper_v be_v capable_a spiritual_a counsel_n be_v to_o be_v give_v out_o of_o god_n word_n wise_o according_a as_o the_o party_n be_v fit_a for_o it_o whether_o to_o humble_v he_o if_o he_o have_v not_o be_v sufficient_o humble_v or_o to_o build_v he_o up_o and_o comfâ—â—â—_n he_o if_o he_o be_v already_o humble_v 7._o last_o remember_v always_o that_o when_o the_o trouble_a person_n be_v himself_o that_o he_o be_v move_v to_o prayer_n and_o that_o other_o then_o pray_v much_o with_o he_o and_o at_o all_o time_n pray_v much_o for_o he_o when_o these_o trouble_n be_v mix_v come_v partly_o from_o natural_a distemper_n and_o partly_o from_o spiritual_a temptation_n then_o the_o remedy_n must_v be_v mix_v of_o help_n natural_a and_o spiritual_a what_o the_o natural_a help_n be_v have_v be_v show_v also_o what_o the_o spiritual_a in_o general_n and_o shall_v be_v show_v more_o particular_o in_o remove_v false_a fear_n rise_v from_o spiritual_a temptation_n the_o fear_n which_o rise_v for_o the_o conscience_n most_o part_n from_o distemper_n of_o body_n may_v be_v know_v from_o those_o which_o for_o the_o most_o part_n or_o only_o rise_v from_o the_o spiritual_a temptation_n thus_o when_o the_o first_o fort_n be_v clear_o resolve_v of_o their_o doubt_n and_o bring_v unto_o some_o good_a degree_n of_o cheerfulness_n and_o comfort_n they_o will_v yet_o it_o may_v be_v within_o a_o day_n or_o two_o sometime_o within_o a_o hour_n or_o two_o upon_o every_o slight_a occasion_n and_o discouragement_n return_v to_o their_o old_a complaint_n and_o will_v need_v the_o same_o mean_n to_o recover_v they_o again_o but_o those_o who_o trouble_n be_v mere_o out_o of_o spiritual_a temptation_n and_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n although_o for_o the_o time_n it_o be_v very_o grievous_a and_o hardly_o remove_v and_o sometime_o long_o before_o they_o receive_v a_o satisfy_a answer_n to_o their_o doubt_n yet_o when_o once_o they_o receive_v satisfaction_n and_o comfort_n it_o do_v hold_v and_o last_v until_o there_o fall_v out_o some_o new_a temptation_n and_o new_a matter_n of_o fear_n this_o be_v because_o their_o fantasy_n and_o memory_n be_v not_o disturb_v in_o such_o sort_n as_o the_o other_o be_v the_o seem_a ground_n of_o fear_n fear_n that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o in_o state_n of_o grace_n when_o yet_o he_o be_v be_v for_o variety_n almost_o infinite_a i_o have_v reduce_v they_o into_o this_o order_n and_o unto_o these_o head_n first_o they_o who_o be_v take_v with_o false_a fear_n will_v say_v their_o sin_n be_v great_a than_o can_v be_v pardon_v second_o when_o they_o be_v drive_v from_o that_o they_o say_v then_o that_o they_o fear_v god_n will_v not_o pardon_v when_o they_o be_v drive_v from_o this_o by_o cause_v they_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o sign_n of_o god_n actual_a love_n to_o they_o which_o give_v proof_n that_o he_o will_v save_v they_o then_o three_o they_o will_v question_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n love_n and_o favour_n but_o be_v put_v upon_o the_o ttyall_a whether_o god_n have_v not_o already_o justify_v they_o and_o give_v they_o faith_n in_o christ_n which_o be_v sufficient_a proof_n of_o his_o love_n then_o four_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o have_v ground_n to_o doubt_v whether_o they_o have_v faith_n from_o which_o they_o be_v drive_v by_o put_v they_o to_o the_o trial_n of_o their_o sanctification_n then_o five_o they_o doubt_v and_o will_v object_v strong_o that_o they_o be_v not_o sanctify_v which_o be_v undeniable_o prove_v then_o sixthly_a and_o last_o they_o fear_v they_o shall_v fall_v away_o and_o not_o persevere_v to_o the_o end_n which_o fear_n be_v take_v away_o also_o and_o all_o be_v come_v to_o this_o good_a issue_n they_o shall_v have_v no_o cause_n of_o disquiet_a fear_n this_o be_v the_o easy_a most_o familiar_a and_o the_o most_o natural_a method_n so_o far_o as_o i_o can_v conceive_v both_o in_o propound_v and_o in_o remove_v false_a fear_n section_n 2._o remove_v false_a fear_n rise_v from_o thought_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o punishment_n and_o sin_n first_o some_o in_o their_o fit_n of_o despair_n speak_v almost_o in_o cain_n word_n say_v that_o their_o 14_o punishment_n which_o they_o partly_o feel_v and_o which_o they_o most_o of_o all_o fear_n be_v great_a than_o they_o can_v bear_v or_o than_o can_v be_v forgive_v i_o answer_v such_o if_o sense_n and_o fear_n of_o wrath_n and_o punishment_n be_v your_o trouble_n i_o will_v have_v sin_n you_o not_o to_o busy_v your_o thought_n about_o the_o punishment_n but_o divert_v they_o and_o pitch_v they_o upon_o your_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o only_a cause_n of_o punishment_n for_o get_v your_o sin_n off_o and_o in_o one_o &_o the_o same_o work_v you_o get_v off_o and_o free_a yourself_o from_o the_o punishment_n labour_v therefore_o that_o your_o heart_n may_v bleed_v with_o godly_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n cry_v out_o as_o 5_o david_n do_v against_o his_o sin_n so_o do_v you_o against_o you_o confess_v they_o to_o god_n strike_v at_o the_o root_n of_o sin_n at_o the_o sin_n of_o your_o nature_n wherein_o you_o be_v conceive_v aggravate_v your_o actual_a sin_n hide_v none_o spare_v none_o find_v out_o arraign_v accuse_v condemn_v your_o sin_n and_o yourself_o for_o they_o grow_v first_o into_o utter_a detestation_n of_o your_o sin_n which_o have_v bring_v present_a punishment_n and_o a_o sense_n and_o fear_n of_o the_o eternal_a vengeance_n of_o hell_n fire_n then_o likewise_o grow_v into_o a_o dislike_n with_o yourself_o for_o sin_n 31._o loathe_v yourself_o in_o your_o own_o sight_n for_o your_o iniquity_n and_o for_o your_o abomination_n now_o when_o you_o be_v as_o a_o prisonerat_a the_o bar_n who_o have_v receive_v sentence_n of_o condemnation_n when_o you_o be_v in_o your_o own_o apprehension_n a_o damn_a wretch_n fear_v every_o day_n to_o be_v execute_v oh_o than_o it_o concern_v you_o and_o it_o be_v your_o part_n christ_n and_o duty_n to_o run_v to_o god_n the_o king_n of_o king_n who_o name_n and_o nature_n be_v to_o forgive_v iniquity_n transgression_n and_o sin_n and_o that_o you_o may_v be_v accept_v go_v to_o he_o by_o jesus_n christ_n who_o office_n be_v to_o take_v away_o your_o sin_n and_o to_o present_v you_o without_o sin_n to_o his_o father_n who_o office_n be_v also_o a_o consideration_n of_o my_o sin_n breed_v all_o my_o woe_n and_o fear_v for_o i_o find_v they_o great_a and_o more_o than_o can_v be_v pardon_v oh_o say_v not_o so_o for_o you_o can_v answ_n hardly_o commit_v a_o great_a sin_n than_o indeed_o to_o think_v and_o to_o say_v so_o it_o be_v blasphemy_n against_o god_n yet_o this_o sin_n if_o you_o will_v follow_v god_n counsel_n and_o all_o other_o may_v and_o shall_v be_v pardon_v i_o intend_v not_o to_o extenuate_v and_o lessen_v your_o sin_n but_o you_o must_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o magnify_v god_n truth_n and_o mercy_n and_o to_o extol_v christ_n love_n and_o merit_n howsoever_o it_o be_v thereof_o true_a that_o because_o sin_n be_v a_o transgression_n of_o a_o law_n of_o infinite_a holiness_n and_o equity_n &_o in_o respect_n servant_n that_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o have_v no_o light_n let_v he_o trust_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n 24._o and_o stay_v upon_o his_o god_n mark_v it_o he_o that_o fear_v and_o obey_v yet_o may_v be_v in_o darkness_n and_o have_v no_o light_n what_o darkness_n be_v this_o but_o that_o speak_v of_o vers_n 4._o viz._n a_o afflict_a weary_a soul_n without_o light_n of_o comfort_n and_o man_n thus_o distress_v must_v trust_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o stay_v on_o their_o god_n yet_o these_o poor_a soul_n who_o 〈◊〉_d whether_o they_o shall_v be_v sharp_o reprove_v or_o pity_v more_o be_v hard_o to_o say_v i_o be_o sure_a they_o deserve_v both_o will_v yet_o object_v strong_o it_o be_v true_a they_o that_o fear_v god_n and_o obey_v he_o may_v trust_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o stay_v upon_o god_n and_o he_o have_v make_v most_o rich_a promise_n to_o they_o that_o know_v he_o that_o do_v fear_v and_o obey_v he_o see_v here_o be_v promise_n with_o condition_n say_v one_o i_o must_v fear_v the_o lord_n i_o must_v obey_v he_o i_o know_v god_n will_v do_v his_o part_n if_o i_o can_v do_v i_o but_o these_o i_o do_v not_o what_o warrant_v then_o or_o ground_n have_v i_o to_o look_v for_o comfort_n or_o any_o thing_n at_o god_n hand_n for_o his_o promise_n belong_v not_o to_o i_o i_o know_v well_o that_o with_o this_o answ_n doubt_n the_o devil_n do_v much_o perplex_v the_o afflict_a soul_n of_o many_o of_o god_n dear_a child_n and_o by_o it_o keep_v off_o all_o the_o remedy_n which_o god_n word_n can_v afford_v so_o that_o they_o can_v fasten_v and_o do_v they_o good_a for_o the_o proposition_n of_o the_o word_n be_v easy_o assent_v unto_o but_o all_o the_o matter_n lie_v in_o the_o application_n of_o they_o to_o the_o wound_n it_o be_v still_o put_v off_o and_o keep_v his_o commandment_n there_o he_o promise_v with_o condition_n here_o he_o absolute_o promise_v those_o on_o who_o he_o intend_v to_o bestow_v these_o blessing_n that_o he_o will_v put_v his_o fear_n in_o their_o heart_n that_o they_o may_v be_v capable_a of_o they_o and_o which_o be_v more_o to_o the_o end_n that_o man_n may_v repent_v believe_v and_o live_v godly_a which_o be_v the_o condition_n to_o which_o the_o promise_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o salvation_n be_v make_v god_n declare_v that_o he_o have_v raise_v christ_n and_o exalt_v 31_o he_o to_o be_v a_o prince_n and_o a_o saviour_n for_o to_o give_v this_o faith_n and_o repentance_n that_o their_o sin_n may_v be_v forgive_v and_o their_o soul_n save_v by_o he_o i_o pray_v consider_v well_o whether_o all_o these_o promise_n of_o this_o sort_n be_v not_o make_v absolute_o on_o god_n part_n and_o without_o any_o condition_n on_o man_n part_n wherefore_o whereas_o god_n have_v make_v many_o excellent_a promise_n of_o free_a and_o great_a reward_n as_o to_o hear_v the_o prayer_n and_o to_o fulfil_v the_o desire_n of_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o and_o to_o give_v life_n and_o glory_n to_o they_o that_o believe_v &_o obey_v he_o and_o that_o do_v hold_v fast_o the_o confidence_n and_o the_o rejoice_v to_o the_o end_n you_o see_v that_o here_o be_v promise_n of_o the_o first_o sort_n make_v with_o a_o kind_n of_o condition_n but_o that_o god_n will_v give_v his_o people_n both_o to_o will_v and_o to_o do_v these_o thing_n require_v in_o the_o condition_n he_o have_v absolute_o promise_v as_o have_v be_v clear_o prove_v if_o you_o yet_o reply_v and_o say_v be_v not_o reply_n these_o latter_a promise_n make_v under_o condition_n of_o our_o well_o use_v the_o outward_a mean_n thereof_o such_o as_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n prayer_n etc._n etc._n god_n indeed_o command_v answ_n these_o mean_n to_o be_v use_v and_o if_o we_o perform_v they_o aright_o god_n will_v not_o fail_v to_o bless_v the_o good_a use_n of_o these_o mean_n but_o this_o well_o use_v they_o be_v not_o in_o our_o own_o power_n neither_o be_v it_o a_o condition_n for_o which_o god_n be_v necessary_o bind_v to_o give_v faith_n and_o to_o plant_v his_o fear_n in_o our_o heart_n any_o otherwise_o than_o by_o his_o promise_n but_o it_o be_v a_o condition_n by_o which_o he_o have_v ordain_v ordinary_o to_o give_v these_o grace_n to_o all_o which_o in_o the_o use_n of_o they_o shall_v wait_v upon_o he_o for_o they_o for_o both_o the_o give_n of_o his_o word_n and_o the_o give_v we_o mind_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o open_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o attend_v and_o the_o convince_a and_o allure_a the_o heart_n to_o obey_v hang_v all_o upon_o those_o absolute_a promise_n 13_o they_o shall_v be_v all_o teach_v of_o god_n and_o the_o rest_n before_o mention_v wherefore_o let_v none_o of_o year_n caution_n think_v that_o without_o hear_v pray_v and_o the_o right_n use_v of_o god_n ordinance_n they_o shall_v ever_o have_v faith_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n wrought_v in_o they_o or_o shall_v ever_o come_v to_o heaven_n for_o we_o be_v command_v to_o pray_v hear_v etc._n etc._n and_o that_o in_o faith_n or_o else_o we_o can_v never_o 7._o look_v to_o receive_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o do_v what_o lie_v in_o manspower_v in_o the_o right_n use_v the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n be_v of_o great_a consequence_n although_o it_o be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o move_v god_n necessary_o to_o give_v grace_n for_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o the_o best_a shall_v have_v more_o grace_n if_o they_o will_v do_v what_o in_o they_o lay_v continual_o to_o make_v good_a use_n of_o the_o outward_a mean_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o worst_a shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o less_o sin_n if_o they_o will_v do_v what_o in_o they_o lay_v to_o profit_v by_o the_o good_a use_n of_o the_o say_a mean_n and_o the_o neglect_n or_o abuse_v of_o the_o 43_o mean_n be_v sufficient_a cause_n why_o god_n shall_v not_o only_o withhold_v grace_n but_o condemn_v man_n for_o refuse_v it_o but_o some_o will_v yet_o say_v let_v all_o which_o have_v be_v say_v be_v grant_v remove_v i_o
