harbour_v this_o prejudice_n within_o we_o thence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o all_o religion_n except_o the_o christian_a general_o teach_v it_o the_o pagan_a the_o mahometan_a the_o jew_n yea_o and_o many_o that_o profess_v christianity_n agree_v all_o in_o this_o point_n and_o sing_v all_o the_o same_o song_n but_o how_o come_v this_o to_o be_v false_a and_o abusive_a see_v it_o be_v dictate_v by_o nature_n itself_o we_o must_v remember_v that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o creation_n it_o be_v ordain_v that_o man_n shall_v be_v justify_v by_o his_o work_n and_o that_o by_o they_o he_o shall_v live_v for_o ever_o this_o principle_n be_v ingrave_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n who_o very_o have_v have_v righteousness_n and_o life_n by_o his_o work_n have_v he_o stand_v in_o his_o primitive_a innocence_n but_o his_o fall_n have_v bruise_v his_o bone_n make_v he_o uncapable_a of_o accomplish_v this_o condition_n but_o he_o yet_o retain_v this_o ancient_a principle_n which_o have_v be_v leave_v he_o to_o the_o end_n he_o shall_v remember_v whence_o he_o be_v fall_v not_o to_o make_v he_o believe_v that_o he_o can_v do_v that_o now_o which_o he_o can_v in_o the_o state_n of_o innocence_n touch_v the_o pretend_a merit_n of_o work_n that_o the_o cause_n of_o our_o salvation_n be_v in_o heaven_n the_o mark_n of_o it_o on_o earth_n in_o the_o search_n of_o these_o two_o point_n we_o must_v take_v two_o contrary_a way_n for_o the_o book_n of_o life_n wherein_o we_o be_v enroll_v to_o salvation_n and_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n which_o call_v we_o to_o it_o and_o his_o grace_n that_o dispense_v it_o and_o the_o saviour_n that_o have_v purchase_v it_o must_v be_v seek_v in_o heaven_n on_o the_o other_o side_n as_o we_o have_v on_o earth_n the_o instrument_n of_o salvation_n viz._n the_o gospel_n the_o sacrament_n faith_n so_o likewise_o the_o same_o faith_n the_o testimony_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o peace_n of_o our_o conscience_n and_o our_o work_n themselves_o be_v here_o on_o earth_n the_o mark_n of_o our_o salvation_n divers_a overturn_v this_o method_n suppose_v to_o be_v save_v by_o virtue_n of_o their_o work_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n teach_v that_o none_o can_v be_v save_v if_o he_o be_v not_o one_o of_o god_n closet_n in_o the_o one_o they_o place_n on_o earth_n the_o cause_n of_o our_o salvation_n in_o the_o other_o they_o seek_v the_o mark_n of_o it_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o both_o the_o two_o they_o be_v as_o wide_a of_o the_o mark_n as_o heaven_n be_v from_o earth_n wherefore_o be_v it_o that_o our_o lord_n speak_v of_o work_n according_a to_o which_o he_o will_v judge_v man_n at_o the_o last_o day_n mention_v none_o but_o work_n of_o mercy_n matth._n 25.35_o this_o passage_n present_v unto_o we_o the_o sentence_n that_o shall_v be_v give_v upon_o man_n at_o that_o great_a day_n where_o it_o speak_v of_o nothing_o save_o feed_v those_o that_o hunger_v receive_v stranger_n clothe_v the_o naked_a visit_v the_o sick_a and_o those_o in_o prison_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a of_o not_o have_v perform_v such_o deed_n of_o benevolence_n but_o be_v there_o no_o work_n but_o these_o worthy_a to_o be_v remember_v before_o christ_n tribunal_n and_o that_o be_v able_a to_o declare_v we_o just_o or_o be_v there_o no_o other_o sin_n except_o the_o omission_n of_o such_o duty_n no_o other_o crime_n that_o deserve_v damnation_n yes_o there_o be_v work_n that_o excel_v these_o he_o that_o spend_v his_o blood_n and_o life_n for_o christ_n sake_n do_v a_o deed_n far_o surpass_v he_o that_o give_v clothes_n and_o food_n to_o the_o poor_a to_o be_v a_o prisoner_n for_o the_o gospel_n be_v more_o than_o to_o visit_v prisoner_n how_o be_v it_o then_o that_o this_o sentence_n express_v naught_o save_o the_o work_n of_o mercy_n although_o that_o there_o be_v many_o other_o kind_n of_o
