there_o be_v no_o more_o shall_v spur_v we_o on_o to_o all_o diligence_n in_o this_o duty_n what_o shame_n and_o grief_n be_v it_o to_o eat_v our_o bread_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n as_o thief_n and_o usurper_n do_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o give_v no_o rest_n unto_o our_o soul_n till_o we_o attain_v to_o some_o good_a assurance_n in_o this_o bless_a estate_n the_o way_n we_o must_v remember_v be_v by_o true_a conversion_n and_o regeneration_n and_o we_o shall_v discern_v ourselves_o to_o be_v regenerate_v by_o these_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o we_o displease_v god_n by_o our_o transgression_n iii_o a_o earnest_a desire_n or_o true_a spiritual_a hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o christ_n and_o his_o righteousness_n testify_v by_o our_o constant_a and_o diligent_a use_n of_o those_o mean_n the_o word_n prayer_n and_o sacrament_n wherein_o god_n give_v grace_n and_o assurance_n of_o mercy_n iv._o a_o unfeigned_a turn_n unto_o god_n from_o all_o sin_n by_o new_a obedience_n have_v a_o constant_a purpose_n of_o heart_n not_o to_o sin_v and_o a_o godly_a endeavour_n in_o life_n to_o please_v god_n in_o all_o thing_n these_o be_v the_o mark_n they_o seek_v his_o kingdom_n principal_o do_v notable_o commend_v unto_o we_o the_o bountiful_a goodness_n of_o god_n for_o here_o we_o see_v he_o give_v to_o his_o child_n more_v they_o they_o bounty_n ask_v or_o seek_v and_o this_o bounty_n of_o god_n paul_n express_v as_o a_o ground_n of_o our_o praise_a god_n eph._n 3._o 20._o to_o he_o therefore_o that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v exceed_v abundant_o above_o all_o that_o we_o can_v ask_v or_o think_v according_a to_o the_o power_n that_o work_v in_o we_o be_v praise_n in_o the_o church_n by_o jesus_n christ_n where_o we_o must_v observe_v that_o he_o speak_v of_o god_n ability_n to_o be_v bountiful_a as_o bring_v into_o action_n in_o his_o child_n so_o as_o he_o be_v not_o only_o able_a but_o will_v hereunto_o and_o hereof_o we_o have_v daily_a experience_n in_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n which_o we_o do_v enjoy_v for_o when_o we_o pray_v for_o spiritual_a grace_n god_n give_v they_o unto_o we_o and_o many_o temporal_a by_o nation_n now_o hence_o observe_v a_o strange_a point_n to_o wit_n that_o the_o ancient_a prophet_n who_o be_v most_o worthy_a man_n of_o god_n be_v persecute_v in_o their_o time_n not_o so_o much_o by_o foreigner_n and_o enemy_n to_o religion_n as_o by_o those_o that_o be_v outward_o member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o professor_n of_o religion_n this_o may_v seem_v strange_a that_o man_n live_v in_o god_n church_n shall_v grow_v to_o this_o height_n of_o impiety_n to_o become_v persecutor_n of_o god_n saint_n but_o saint_n
hold_v they_o necessary_a as_o cause_n of_o our_o salvation_n and_o justification_n but_o this_o we_o have_v confute_v heretofore_o second_o of_o some_o protestant_n who_o hold_v they_o necessary_a though_o not_o as_o principal_a cause_n for_o they_o say_v we_o be_v only_o justify_v and_o save_v by_o christ_n yet_o as_o conseruant_a cause_n of_o our_o salvation_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o be_v no_o cause_n of_o salvation_n neither_o efficient_a principal_a nor_o conseruant_a nor_o yet_o material_a formal_a or_o final_a as_o have_v elsewhere_o be_v show_v the_o three_o opinion_n be_v the_o truth_n that_o good_a work_n be_v necessary_a not_o as_o cause_n of_o salvation_n or_o justification_n but_o as_o inseparable_a consequent_n of_o save_v faith_n in_o christ_n whereby_o we_o be_v justify_v and_o save_v or_o as_o a_o way_n be_v necessary_a to_o the_o go_v to_o a_o place_n the_o dignity_n of_o good_a work_n work_n be_v express_v in_o this_o that_o they_o be_v call_v good_a now_o they_o be_v good_a only_o in_o part_n not_o perfect_o as_o i_o show_v thus_o such_o as_o the_o tree_n be_v such_o be_v the_o friute_v but_o every_o one_o regenerate_v be_v partly_o spirit_n and_o partly_o flesh_n that_o be_v in_o part_n regenerate_v and_o in_o part_n natural_a and_o corrupt_a this_o be_v true_a of_o his_o mind_n will_n and_o affection_n which_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o his_o action_n and_o therefore_o the_o work_n that_o proceed_v thence_o must_v needs_o be_v answerable_a that_o be_v in_o part_n corrupt_v as_o they_o come_v from_o nature_n and_o yet_o good_a in_o part_n as_o they_o come_v from_o grace_n quest._n but_o how_o can_v god_n approve_v of_o they_o if_o they_o be_v evil_a ans._n we_o must_v consider_v good_a work_n two_o way_n first_o in_o themselves_o as_o they_o be_v compare_v with_o the_o law_n and_o the_o rigour_n thereof_o and_o so_o they_o be_v sin_n because_o they_o answer_v not_o to_o that_o perfection_n which_o the_o law_n require_v for_o there_o be_v two_o degree_n of_o sin_n rebellion_n which_o be_v action_n flat_o against_o the_o law_n and_o defect_n when_o a_o man_n do_v those_o thing_n that_o the_o law_n command_v but_o yet_o fail_v in_o the_o manner_n of_o do_v and_o so_o be_v man_n very_a best_a work_n sin_n second_o consider_v good_a work_n as_o do_v by_o a_o person_n regenerate_v and_o reconcile_v to_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o so_o god_n accept_v of_o they_o for_o in_o christ_n the_o want_v thereof_o be_v cover_v but_o here_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n of_o the_o romish_a doctrine_n â—7_n which_o teach_v that_o good_a work_n be_v so_o far_o forth_o good_a that_o there_o be_v no_o sin_n in_o they_o their_o reason_n be_v many_o to_o prove_v this_o point_n but_o they_o have_v be_v heretofore_o confute_v first_o they_o say_v good_a work_n have_v god_n for_o their_o author_n and_o therefore_o be_v perfect_o good_a answ._n this_o be_v true_a if_o he_o alone_o be_v the_o author_n of_o they_o but_o man_n be_v another_o author_n thereof_o from_o who_o they_o take_v their_o imperfection_n they_o say_v again_o that_o here_o they_o be_v call_v good_a but_o if_o they_o have_v any_o sin_n in_o they_o they_o shall_v be_v call_v evil_a for_o every_o sin_n be_v perfect_o evil_a ans._n where_o sin_n be_v unremit_v it_o be_v perfect_o evil_a but_o when_o it_o be_v pardon_v in_o our_o saviour_n doctrine_n man_n be_v bind_v to_o abstain_v from_o all_o good_a work_n answer_n that_o which_o be_v evil_a must_v not_o be_v do_v so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o be_v evil_a now_o good_a work_n be_v not_o simple_o and_o absolute_o evil_a they_o be_v good_a in_o themselves_o and_o in_o we_o in_o part_n come_v from_o grace_n and_o therefore_o they_o must_v be_v do_v because_o god_n require_v they_o at_o our_o hand_n and_o for_o the_o imperfection_n of_o they_o we_o must_v pray_v for_o pardon_n in_o our_o saviour_n christ._n and_o here_o by_o the_o way_n we_o may_v just_o tax_v the_o proud_a to_o be_v do_v for_o the_o obtain_n of_o salvation_n but_o the_o gospel_n require_v obedience_n only_o to_o testify_v our_o faith_n and_o thankfulness_n unto_o god_n the_o church_n of_o rome_n therefore_o err_v gross_o in_o confound_v the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n which_o indeed_o be_v far_o differ_v &_o so_o we_o must_v believe_v if_o we_o will_v come_v into_o &_o hold_v the_o right_a way_n that_o lead_v unto_o life_n now_o whereas_o christ_n say_v think_v not_o that_o i_o come_v to_o destroy_v the_o law_n by_o law_n he_o mean_v principal_o the_o moral_a law_n and_o in_o the_o second_o place_n the_o ceremonial_a law_n also_o next_o observe_v the_o opposition_n that_o christ_n make_v between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o prophet_n thereby_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o by_o the_o law_n he_o mean_v that_o part_n of_o god_n word_n concern_v righteousness_n and_o justice_n which_o moses_n pen_v by_o god_n commandment_n and_o by_o the_o prophet_n he_o mean_v that_o part_n of_o god_n word_n which_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o write_n of_o all_o the_o prophet_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n after_o moses_n which_o book_n of_o the_o prophet_n contain_v in_o they_o either_o a_o interpretation_n of_o moses_n law_n or_o prediction_n of_o the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n again_o by_o destroy_v the_o law_n we_o must_v not_o understand_v a_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n such_o as_o be_v make_v by_o man_n sin_n but_o such_o a_o dissolution_n as_o take_v from_o it_o all_o virtue_n and_o power_n whereby_o it_o be_v a_o law_n and_o so_o to_o destroy_v the_o prophet_n be_v to_o put_v a_o end_n unto_o they_o so_o as_o they_o shall_v nothing_o avail_v either_o to_o the_o interpretation_n of_o the_o law_n or_o to_o the_o foretell_v of_o the_o state_n of_o god_n church_n under_o the_o gospel_n way_n but_o to_o fulfil_v they_o christ_n fulfil_v the_o law_n three_o way_n by_o his_o doctrine_n in_o his_o person_n and_o in_o man_n by_o his_o be_v great_a for_o howsoever_o in_o the_o purpose_n of_o god_n all_o sin_n be_v pardon_v to_o true_a believer_n yea_o all_o sin_n pass_v repent_v of_o be_v so_o forgive_v that_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v again_o impute_v yet_o sin_n present_a and_o to_o come_v be_v not_o actual_o pardon_v till_o they_o be_v repent_v of_o this_o experience_n teach_v for_o who_o can_v feel_v the_o assurance_n of_o mercy_n for_o any_o sin_n commit_v before_o he_o have_v repent_v of_o it_o and_o though_o true_a repentance_n once_o have_v set_v we_o for_o ever_o in_o god_n favour_n yet_o it_o must_v be_v daily_o
