the_o spirit_n help_v their_o infirmity_n and_o make_v intercession_n for_o they_o according_a to_o god_n and_o here_o he_o enlarge_v his_o speech_n and_o rise_v from_o the_o particular_a to_o the_o universal_a not_o only_o do_v the_o spirit_n help_n but_o all_o thing_n work_v together_o for_o the_o good_a of_o believer_n in_o special_a as_o the_o coherence_n seem_v to_o imply_v their_o prayer_n that_o come_v from_o the_o spirit_n how_o ever_o at_o present_a they_o succeed_v whether_o the_o effect_n of_o they_o be_v stay_v or_o instant_o emergent_a evident_a or_o inevident_a or_o however_o transform_v yet_o they_o work_v for_o good_a to_o they_o and_o which_o be_v much_o to_o be_v note_v he_o say_v they_o work_v together_o for_o good_a they_o be_v not_o single_a cause_n to_o produce_v a_o effect_n of_o or_o by_o themselves_o solitary_o but_o they_o work_v together_o that_o be_v together_o with_o other_o thing_n and_o among_o or_o above_o other_o thing_n that_o must_v work_v with_o they_o be_v the_o divine_a disposal_n the_o saint_n prayer_n and_o god_n hand_n of_o

full_o either_o in_o or_o after_o the_o delay_n to_o make_v the_o benefit_n pray_v for_o the_o more_o precious_a and_o welcome_a and_o useful_a when_o it_o come_v to_o remove_v the_o impediment_n of_o their_o receive_n or_o enjoy_v the_o mercy_n seek_v for_o and_o to_o raise_v up_o their_o thought_n their_o faith_n hope_n love_n and_o long_v to_o the_o second_o appear_v of_o christ_n 2._o in_o relation_n unto_o other_o to_o make_v up_o and_o bring_v in_o the_o number_n of_o those_o for_o who_o the_o mercy_n be_v purpose_v to_o complete_a the_o account_n of_o the_o church_n sufferer_n and_o suffering_n to_o give_v other_o a_o example_n of_o patient_a and_o confident_a wait_v upon_o god_n and_o for_o the_o great_a dismay_n and_o confusion_n of_o the_o adversary_n 2._o all_o these_o end_n especial_o those_o which_o concern_v the_o person_n pray_v as_o they_o be_v good_a and_o desirable_a in_o themselves_o and_o very_o convenient_a to_o be_v attain_v ere_o their_o prayer_n come_v to_o issue_n so_o as_o many_o of_o they_o as_o we_o now_o upon_o a_o diligent_a view_n can_v discern_v or_o apprehend_v to_o be_v unaccomplish_v we_o may_v well_o conjecture_v the_o lord_n intend_v to_o accomplish_v they_o before_o he_o perform_v his_o people_n prayer_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n stay_v and_o gradual_a work_n for_o the_o bring_v forth_o of_o these_o end_n be_v the_o reason_n of_o his_o present_a defer_v of_o those_o prayer_n now_o who_o of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n among_o we_o can_v otherwise_o judge_v of_o themselves_o or_o their_o brethren_n but_o that_o many_o of_o or_o all_o of_o those_o say_a end_n which_o respect_v they_o and_o much_o of_o every_o one_o of_o they_o remain_v unattain_v and_o therefore_o they_o may_v resolve_v there_o be_v very_o good_a reason_n for_o all_o this_o delay_n the_o lord_n have_v a_o great_a work_n yet_o to_o finish_v out_o in_o and_o upon_o his_o people_n before_o he_o work_v out_o their_o prayer_n for_o they_o to_o conclude_v therefore_o this_o part_n of_o my_o answer_n to_o the_o particular_a case_n and_o query_n consider_v on_o one_o hand_n the_o ripeness_n and_o fullness_n of_o england_n sin_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n the_o immaturity_n or_o unripeness_n of_o those_o gracious_a end_n which_o the_o lord_n set_v up_o to_o be_v effect_v in_o and_o by_o the_o delay_n of_o his_o people_n prayer_n and_o we_o have_v before_o we_o abundant_a matter_n of_o reason_n for_o that_o dilatory_a hide_v of_o god_n from_o his_o people_n again_o consider_v if_o any_o one_o of_o those_o sin_n before_o recite_v may_v according_a to_o scripture_n threat_v or_o example_n suffice_v to_o hinder_v the_o answer_n of_o prayer_n much_o more_o may_v many_o or_o all_o of_o they_o concur_v together_o and_o that_o with_o so_o many_o circumstance_n and_o degree_n of_o aggravation_n be_v forcible_a to_o that_o hindrance_n now_o to_o the_o second_o proposition_n 2._o that_o plurality_n of_o reason_n which_o there_o may_v be_v now_o for_o this_o hide_v of_o god_n from_o prayer_n we_o can_v reasonable_o think_v ascribeable_a whole_o to_o every_o one_o or_o to_o any_o one_o person_n or_o party_n but_o we_o may_v attribute_v they_o to_o the_o whole_a community_n distributive_o or_o dispersedly_z so_o as_o that_o some_o of_o they_o more_o proper_o belong_v to_o one_o some_o to_o another_o and_o all_o to_o the_o whole_a by_o way_n of_o distribution_n these_o meritorious_a and_o final_a cause_n of_o this_o effect_n and_o the_o variety_n of_o particular_n under_o each_o of_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v seek_v in_o or_o apply_v to_o every_o person_n but_o some_o of_o they_o respect_n obtain_v and_o take_v place_n in_o this_o person_n some_o in_o that_o this_o proceed_n of_o god_n concern_v and_o look_v at_o we_o all_o in_o common_a and_o general_a yet_o as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o difference_n of_o disposition_n in_o god_n as_o be_v above_o show_v 3_o show_v chap._n 3_o sect._n 3_o so_o it_o be_v with_o some_o difference_n in_o respect_n of_o ground_n or_o reason_n in_o or_o from_o man_n and_o with_o some_o difference_n also_o in_o regard_n of_o end_n for_o or_o towards_o man_n all_o man_n do_v not_o contribute_v to_o it_o by_o way_n of_o provocation_n in_o the_o same_o kind_n act_n or_o measure_n of_o sin_n god_n have_v not_o his_o end_n towards_o all_o man_n alike_o or_o the_o same_o for_o nature_n or_o degree_n i_o have_v before_o distinguish_v of_o a_o double_a notion_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n some_o be_v such_o in_o regard_n of_o name_n and_o outward_a call_n and_o privilege_v only_o some_o be_v such_o in_o regard_n of_o spiritual_a appropriation_n and_o communion_n also_o it_o must_v be_v grant_v this_o carriage_n of_o god_n may_v be_v partly_o ground_v on_o some_o sin_n of_o those_o or_o some_o of_o they_o who_o be_v the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o the_o strict_a sense_n and_o it_o may_v be_v partly_o for_o some_o merciful_a end_n towards_o they_o or_o some_o of_o they_o who_o be_v at_o present_a god_n people_n but_o in_o the_o large_a acception_n yet_o it_o be_v most_o likely_a those_o that_o be_v the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o the_o common_a notion_n only_o have_v the_o large_a share_n in_o the_o meritorious_a cause_n and_o those_o who_o be_v his_o people_n in_o the_o most_o peculiar_a notion_n have_v the_o large_a portion_n in_o the_o final_a cause_n now_o for_o any_o further_a resolution_n by_o way_n of_o application_n to_o person_n or_o party_n i_o only_o say_v as_o it_o be_v god_n alone_o who_o know_v particular_o who_o be_v he_o by_o either_o of_o these_o degree_n of_o relation_n so_o he_o alone_o know_v to_o allot_v to_o every_o single_a person_n his_o proper_a part_n and_o portion_n of_o either_o of_o those_o two_o sort_n of_o cause_n and_o it_o be_v every_o man_n duty_n first_o to_o reflect_v upon_o himself_o and_o consider_v how_o much_o he_o share_v in_o either_o of_o they_o and_o then_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o they_o in_o relation_n to_o the_o whole_a community_n i_o come_v to_o the_o three_o proposition_n 3._o although_o many_o most_o or_o all_o the_o aforesaid_a cause_n may_v have_v influence_n into_o this_o case_n of_o we_o yet_o some_o of_o they_o may_v be_v conceive_v more_o predominant_a and_o more_o notable_a in_o produce_v the_o effect_n than_o the_o rest_n and_o therefore_o more_o necessary_a for_o we_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o and_o lay_v to_o heart_n as_o among_o those_o three_o and_o four_o that_o be_v seven_z a_o complete_a and_o full_a number_n of_o transgression_n of_o judah_n israel_n and_o other_o speak_v of_o as_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o irrevocability_n of_o their_o respective_a judgement_n amos_n chap._n 2._o &_o 3._o there_o be_v still_o one_o or_o two_o nominate_v as_o the_o chief_a or_o head_n of_o the_o rest_n so_o there_o be_v usual_o in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o we_o some_o one_o or_o a_o few_o sin_n that_o do_v more_o appear_v and_o prevail_v then_o other_o in_o procure_v this_o evil_a judah_n have_v one_o sin_n viz._n idolatry_n that_o be_v write_v with_o a_o pen_n of_o iron_n 17.1_o jer._n 17.1_o and_o with_o the_o point_n of_o a_o diamond_n and_o grave_v upon_o the_o table_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o upon_o the_o horn_n of_o their_o altar_n 7.10_o hos_fw-la 5.5_o 7.10_o ephraim_n have_v one_o sin_n viz._n pride_n that_o do_v testify_v to_o his_o there_o be_v in_o we_o of_o this_o land_n that_o bear_v this_o priority_n of_o place_n and_o influence_n it_o behoove_v we_o to_o observe_v i_o shall_v therefore_o here_o plain_o speak_v my_o apprehension_n and_o for_o that_o end_n short_o first_o give_v the_o character_n by_o which_o as_o i_o conceive_v they_o may_v be_v know_v and_o then_o say_v which_o i_o think_v they_o be_v 1._o those_o sin_n i_o suppose_v be_v of_o this_o prececedency_n and_o predominancy_n above_o other_o 1._o which_o be_v more_o general_a either_o in_o the_o whole_a community_n or_o in_o they_o that_o aside_o to_o tarry_v for_o a_o night_n why_o shall_v thou_o be_v as_o a_o man_n astonish_v as_o a_o mighty_a man_n that_o can_v save_v thus_o say_v the_o lord_n unto_o this_o people_n thus_o have_v they_o love_v to_o wander_v they_o have_v not_o refrain_v their_o foot_n therefore_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o accept_v they_o etc._n etc._n here_o the_o people_n of_o judah_n be_v by_o the_o prophet_n stranger_n or_o a_o night-lodger_n as_o a_o weary_a man_n or_o as_o a_o strong_a man_n who_o power_n be_v overmatch_v in_o that_o i_o do_v not_o hear_v and_o save_v they_o they_o may_v see_v if_o sense_n and_o awaken_n efficacy_n which_o the_o work_n of_o god_n of_o this_o sort_n more_o especial_o be_v apt_a to_o introduce_v upon_o the_o conscience_n as_o in_o the_o prophet_n zechary_n it_o something_o that_o need_v it_o or_o something_o that_o procure_v it_o and_o if_o we_o seem_v desirous_a to_o know_v the_o cause_n of_o a_o evil_n we_o lie_v under_o and_o will_v not_o search_v and_o from_o the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n ground_v upon_o his_o promise_n and_o in_o so_o do_v to_o take_v in_o this_o general_a account_n those_o notion_n of_o god_n people_n and_o of_o prayer_n groundedness_n upon_o the_o promise_n in_o the_o large_a sense_n namely_o to_o include_v all_o those_o person_n who_o be_v the_o people_n of_o god_n by_o outward_a profession_n and_o calling_n and_o all_o the_o prayer_n of_o such_o which_o may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v ground_v on_o the_o promise_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o matter_n pray_v for_o though_o they_o be_v deficient_a in_o the_o qualification_n necessary_a for_o 1._o though_o the_o case_n upon_o which_o our_o eye_n be_v intent_n be_v but_o one_o yet_o the_o reason_n that_o have_v influence_n into_o it_o may_v be_v many_o 2._o among_o the_o many_o reason_n in_o scripture_n for_o the_o over_o cloud_v of_o prayer_n some_o in_o this_o particular_a case_n may_v belong_v to_o some_o person_n more_o direct_o and_o peculiar_o and_o other_o to_o other_o it_o may_v avail_v therefore_o to_o have_v all_o represent_v 3._o if_o we_o come_v short_a in_o the_o unfolding_n of_o the_o present_a case_n set_v before_o we_o as_o
