and_o north_n and_o shall_v sit_v down_o with_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n what_o weep_v and_o gnash_n of_o tooth_n will_v it_o cause_v to_o they_o who_o the_o main_a foundation_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o the_o end_n of_o it_o and_o the_o great_a scope_n of_o the_o gospel_n 2._o because_o there_o be_v so_o many_o mistake_n about_o this_o and_o a_o gross_a mistake_n in_o this_o be_v remediless_a when_o we_o come_v before_o god_n even_o before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o man_n if_o we_o make_v a_o wrong_a defence_n it_o hazard_v our_o cause_n so_o 1_o 2_o 3_o 4._o and_o 5._o chapter_n especial_o the_o 3_o and_o 4._o in_o the_o 3d._n chap._n v._o 25._o when_o he_o be_v sum_v the_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n into_o a_o compend_n he_o say_v who_o god_n have_v set_v forth_o to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n through_o faith_n to_o declare_v his_o righteousness_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n etc._n etc._n where_o christ_n righteousness_n and_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o his_o peace_n before_o god_n we_o give_v some_o scripture_n before_o for_o this_o and_o shall_v not_o therefore_o now_o insist_v there_o be_v also_o good_a reason_n why_o it_o can_v be_v otherways_o 1._o if_o we_o consider_v what_o man_n be_v in_o himself_o ungodly_a rebellious_a have_v nothing_o to_o present_v unto_o god_n but_o when_o a_o righteousness_n be_v present_v to_o he_o by_o way_n of_o offer_n and_o he_o be_v through_o grace_n bring_v to_o accept_v of_o the_o offer_n of_o righteousness_n of_o another_o nothing_o can_v be_v conceive_v to_o be_v bring_v to_o receive_v it_o but_o his_o faith_n and_o iâ—_n christ_n satisfaction_n be_v his_o justification_n and_o if_o it_o be_v faith_n that_o take_v hold_v of_o it_o we_o have_v a_o clear_a reason_n why_o justification_n be_v attribute_v as_o to_o faith_n 2._o consider_v that_o this_o contribut_n most_o to_o god_n end_n which_o be_v to_o glorify_v himself_o especial_o in_o his_o grace_n in_o the_o justification_n of_o sinner_n even_o to_o hold_v forth_o the_o manifold_a riches_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o nothing_o contribut_v to_o this_o so_o much_o and_o so_o well_o aâ—_n that_o which_o speak_v the_o sinner_n to_o be_v empty_a and_o nothing_o empty_v the_o sinner_n more_o than_o faith_n it_o be_v the_o great_a act_n of_o faith_n to_o bring_v the_o soul_n of_o its_o own_o bottom_n and_o to_o stop_v all_o boast_n to_o drive_v it_o out_o of_o itself_o to_o be_v find_v in_o he_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v of_o faith_n that_o it_o may_v be_v of_o grace_n rom._n be_v perfect_a â—hough_o our_o faith_n grip_n be_v weak_a hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o weak_a believer_n be_v justify_v as_o well_o as_o the_o strong_a all_o who_o look_v unto_o christ_n though_o with_o a_o weak_a sight_a eye_n yet_o salvation_n through_o he_o as_o well_o as_o abraham_n because_o his_o righteousness_n be_v perfect_a which_o weak_a faith_n take_v hold_v of_o as_o well_o as_o
such_o a_o end_n and_o yet_o so_o as_o he_o must_v flee_v into_o it_o ere_o he_o can_v plead_v for_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o city_n so_o suppose_v a_o sinner_n to_o be_v flee_v to_o jesust_n christ_n by_o faith_n he_o may_v plead_v for_o exemption_n from_o wrath_n by_o god_n determine_v and_o appoint_v a_o mediator_n for_o such_o a_o end_n and_o the_o mediator_n jesus_n christ_n have_v this_o privilege_n confer_v on_o he_o that_o he_o that_o thus_o flee_v unto_o he_o shall_v be_v safe_a yet_o it_o be_v also_o suppose_v that_o such_o a_o sinner_n have_v flee_v to_o he_o else_o he_o be_v sweet_o and_o powerful_o draw_v to_o rest_v on_o he_o and_o his_o satisfaction_n whereupon_o follow_v the_o application_n of_o the_o sentence_n of_o justification_n and_o absolution_n that_o result_v from_o the_o former_a so_o that_o whereas_o it_o be_v before_o curse_a be_v he_o that_o continue_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n write_v in_o the_o law_n now_o it_o be_v he_o that_o believe_v on_o why_o we_o have_v so_o much_o insist_v on_o this_o be_v that_o we_o may_v teach_v you_o to_o join_v respect_n to_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n christ_n suffering_n and_o your_o believe_v together_o it_o will_v not_o be_v faith_n that_o will_v justify_v that_o be_v without_o respect_n to_o the_o covenant_n neither_o will_v the_o covenant_n and_o christ_n satisfaction_n justify_v without_o faith_n yet_o you_o will_v so_o put_v they_o together_o as_o the_o glory_n of_o salvation_n through_o grace_n may_v not_o lie_v on_o faith_n but_o on_o god_n everlasting_a love_n and_o on_o christ_n satisfaction_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v no_o little_a practic_n for_o a_o soul_n sensible_a of_o sin_n in_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n so_o to_o lay_v the_o weight_n of_o its_o salvation_n on_o christ_n and_o the_o covenant_n as_o it_o neglect_v not_o run_v to_o christ_n by_o faitâ—_n and_o so_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o christ_n by_o faith_n as_o it_o lay_v not_o the_o weight_n on_o faith_n but_o on_o christ_n and_o the_o covenant_n as_o in_o the_o comparison_n before_o use_v suppose_v a_o man_n that_o have_v kill_v another_o unaware_o have_v be_v take_v before_o he_o win_v to_o the_o city_n of_o refuge_n god_n determination_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o that_o but_o his_o not_o run_v or_o his_o not_o come_v at_o the_o city_n so_o it_o may_v be_v that_o some_o be_v apprehend_v by_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n that_o be_v less_o sinful_a than_o other_o yet_o the_o reason_n or_o câ—uâ—e_n be_v not_o in_o god_n covenant_n nor_o in_o câ—rists_n want_n of_o worth_n but_o in_o the_o person_n not_o run_v or_o not_o flee_v to_o christ_n as_o to_o the_o city_n of_o refuge_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o hear_v to_o plead_v for_o immunity_n by_o virtue_n of_o that_o satisfaction_n before_o the_o bar_n of_o god_n a_o second_o sort_n of_o uses_n be_v for_o exhort_v and_o encourage_v sinner_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n there_o be_v here_o then_o 1._o a_o clear_a ground_n to_o our_o our_o faith_n and_o a_o plain_a way_n open_v to_o heaven_n and_o a_o mighty_a encouragement_n to_o persuade_v sinner_n to_o lay_v hold_n on_o christ_n and_o to_o take_v this_o way_n for_o obtain_v of_o life_n this_o text_n open_v as_o it_o be_v the_o gate_n of_o the_o city_n of_o refuge_n and_o point_n out_o the_o way_n how_o to_o eshew_v the_o wrath_n which_o be_v to_o come_v there_o be_v a_o way_n here_o lay_v down_o in_o the_o wisdom_n justice_n go_v dness_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n which_o be_v make_v offer_n of_o in_o the_o gospel_n and_o since_o it_o be_v so_o we_o beseech_v you_o that_o you_o will_v not_o receive_v this_o grace_n in_o vain_a but_o see_v there_o be_v a_o covenant_n well_o order_v and_o sure_a a_o mediator_n and_o a_o ransom_n provide_v and_o a_o way_n lay_v down_o how_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n by_o faith_n let_v all_o of_o you_o who_o come_v under_o the_o conviction_n of_o sin_n and_o apprehension_n of_o wrath_n step_v to_o and_o here_o that_o will_v serve_v to_o give_v ground_n for_o this_o application_n if_o we_o consider_v 1._o the_o great_a ground_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v here_o 2._o the_o great_a reason_n we_o have_v to_o make_v use_n of_o this_o ground_n 3._o the_o great_a encouragement_n we_o have_v so_o to_o do_v and_o 4_o the_o great_a necessity_n we_o have_v to_o make_v this_o application_n a_o little_a to_o each_o of_o these_o but_o we_o shall_v premit_fw-la one_o word_n to_o all_o and_o it_o be_v this_o that_o consider_v you_o be_v all_o in_o tryft_a term_n with_o god_n whether_o you_o live_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o he_o the_o uâ—e_v will_n by_o way_n of_o exhortation_n reach_v you_o or_o whether_o you_o be_v bring_v to_o great_a nearness_n under_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o have_v some_o seriousness_n in_o seek_v after_o god_n it_o will_v reach_v you_o for_o consolation_n in_o a_o word_n we_o will_v exhort_v all_o and_o it_o may_v convince_v some_o &_o comfort_v other_o but_o to_o the_o first_o thing_n we_o propose_v we_o declare_v and_o proclaim_v this_o as_o a_o true_a and_o faithful_a say_n that_o there_o be_v here_o a_o everlasting_a covenant_n wherein_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o elect_n be_v conclude_v through_o christ_n satisfaction_n to_o justice_n for_o they_o and_o a_o way_n lay_v down_o for_o make_v peace_n betwixt_o god_n and_o all_o they_o that_o will_v thorough_o renounce_v their_o own_o righteousness_n and_o lay_v hold_v
be_v the_o thing_n here_o main_o understand_v as_o follow_v immediate_o a_o the_o back_n of_o his_o suffering_n 2._o because_o they_o have_v life_n from_o he_o efficient_o as_o he_o work_v it_o in_o they_o and_o by_o the_o gospel_n beget_v they_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v 1._o tim._n 1.10_o to_o have_v bring_v life_n and_o immortality_n to_o light_n through_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v not_o know_v in_o many_o part_n of_o the_o world_n till_o christ_n bring_v it_o forth_o in_o this_o respect_n believer_n be_v christ_n seed_n we_o be_v not_o bear_v believer_n of_o our_o parent_n nor_o have_v the_o faith_n which_o we_o have_v of_o the_o ordinance_n nor_o of_o minister_n as_o efficient_a cause_n thereof_o but_o it_o be_v from_o our_o lord_n jesus_n who_o be_v believer_n father_n thus_o believer_n have_v a_o affinity_n and_o near_a relation_n to_o christ_n even_o to_o be_v his_o child_n and_o any_o that_o will_v lay_v claim_n to_o faith_n or_o spiritual_a life_n will_v see_v well_o that_o it_o be_v this_o way_n kind_o and_o as_o we_o use_v to_o say_v leill_n come_v from_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o they_o be_v in_o his_o debt_n and_o common_a for_o it_o 2_o they_o be_v his_o seed_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o likeness_n that_o be_v betwixt_o he_o and_o they_o or_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o qualification_n that_o be_v in_o they_o as_o they_o be_v say_v 2_o pet._n 1.4_o by_o the_o exceed_a great_a and_o precious_a promise_n to_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n they_o have_v of_o the_o same_o spirit_n for_o the_o kind_n that_o he_o as_o mediator_n have_v in_o he_o and_o it_o be_v in_o this_o respect_n that_o cant._n 7.1_o the_o believer_n be_v call_v the_o princess_n daughter_n which_o especial_o look_v to_o the_o spiritual_a generous_a and_o great_a in_o the_o world_n have_v but_o the_o spirit_n of_o servant_n and_o their_o generosity_n be_v nothing_o to_o that_o of_o believer_n who_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n we_o have_v not_o say_v the_o apostle_n receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o fear_n but_o of_o faith_n and_o love_n and_o of_o a_o sound_a mind_n ah_o there_o be_v many_o that_o claim_n kindred_n and_o relation_n to_o christ_n that_o be_v very_o unlike_a he_o 3_o they_o be_v call_v christ_n seed_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o care_n that_o he_o have_v of_o they_o never_o mother_n be_v more_o tender_a of_o the_o suck_v child_n than_o he_o be_v of_o his_o believe_a child_n therefore_o say_v the_o lord_n isa_n 49.15_o a_o mother_n may_v forget_v her_o suck_a child_n but_o i_o will_v not_o forget_v thou_o hence_o be_v that_o phrase_n even_o as_o to_o visible_a professor_n in_o the_o church_n who_o refuse_v to_o listen_v to_o the_o call_v of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v much_o more_o eminent_o apostle_n say_v that_o parent_n provide_v for_o their_o child_n it_o be_v indeed_o eminent_o so_o here_o believer_n come_v under_o his_o care_n oversight_n and_o tutory_a and_o as_o a_o man_n provide_v for_o his_o household_n his_o child_n and_o servant_n meat_n in_o due_a season_n and_o the_o apostle_n say_v he_o be_v worse_a than_o a_o infidel_n that_o provide_v not_o for_o they_o of_o his_o own_o house_n even_o so_o our_o lord_n jesus_n as_o he_o give_v believer_n their_o spiritual_a life_n so_o he_o entertain_v that_o life_n provide_v for_o they_o and_o train_v they_o up_o and_o on_o till_o he_o enter_v they_o in_o to_o the_o possession_n of_o eternal_a life_n they_o be_v make_v by_o he_o prince_n psal_n 45.16_o entitle_v to_o a_o kingdom_n yea_o all_o his_o child_n be_v king_n and_o sit_v with_o he_o on_o his_o throne_n rev._n 2._o last_o verse_n and_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o his_o glory_n and_o to_o speak_v so_o they_o fair_a as_o he_o fair_n they_o dwell_v as_o
