whatsoever_o denomination_n there_o be_v among_o all_o party_n a_o great_a many_o that_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o pretend_v to_o repentance_n and_o among_o most_o as_o i_o very_o hope_v a_o great_a many_o that_o do_v more_o than_o pretend_v to_o it_o but_o the_o pharisee_n who_o i_o mean_v be_v those_o who_o the_o baptist_n and_o after_o he_o our_o saviour_n himself_o do_v so_o smart_o inveigh_v against_o and_o if_o you_o please_v to_o consult_v st._n matthew_n xxiii_o you_o will_v there_o find_v they_o treat_v with_o much_o more_o severity_n by_o the_o meek_a and_o most_o charitable_a person_n that_o ever_o be_v but_o if_o in_o any_o party_n among_o ourselves_o there_o be_v any_o such_o hypocrite_n and_o false_a pretender_n to_o repentance_n as_o these_o pharisee_n be_v as_o i_o evil_a we_o be_v no_o more_o accountable_a for_o they_o than_o for_o the_o return_v of_o our_o appetite_n or_o the_o palpitation_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o if_o we_o do_v not_o indulge_v our_o drowsiness_n nor_o harbour_v and_o entertain_v our_o evil_a thought_n but_o throw_v they_o out_o of_o our_o mind_n as_o soon_o as_o we_o observe_v they_o and_o keep_v a_o more_o careful_a watch_n to_o the_o vast_a variety_n of_o outward_a object_n a_o temptation_n may_v sudden_o break_v in_o and_o prevail_v upon_o they_o before_o they_o have_v time_n to_o recollect_v themselves_o for_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o the_o mind_n have_v not_o that_o absolute_a dominion_n over_o the_o will_v as_o to_o make_v it_o choose_v or_o refuse_v at_o its_o beck_n upon_o the_o bare_a proposal_n of_o good_a or_o evil_a object_n but_o many_o time_n before_o it_o can_v prevail_v be_v fain_o to_o dispute_v it_o out_o with_o our_o passion_n and_o appetite_n and_o to_o oppose_v their_o importunity_n with_o more_o prevalent_a motive_n to_o the_o contrary_a and_o therefore_o if_o it_o shall_v so_o fall_v out_o that_o in_o that_o moment_n when_o the_o temptation_n come_v the_o mind_n shall_v be_v very_o much_o divert_v by_o other_o employment_n it_o be_v in_o many_o case_n moral_o impossible_a but_o passion_n and_o appetite_n shall_v prevail_v and_o obtain_v our_o consent_v before_o the_o mind_n be_v aware_a of_o it_o because_o that_o be_v at_o present_a otherwise_o employ_v and_o always_o unable_a to_o attend_v many_o thing_n at_o once_o it_o can_v be_v ready_a in_o the_o present_a exigence_n immediate_o to_o urge_v the_o argument_n on_o its_o own_o side_n and_o to_o detect_v the_o fallacy_n on_o the_o other_o though_o this_o i_o confess_v will_v hardly_o hold_v in_o any_o gross_a act_n of_o sin_n because_o in_o these_o there_o be_v general_o some_o pause_v and_o interval_n between_o the_o temptation_n and_o the_o action_n wherein_o the_o mind_n may_v easy_o be_v advise_v with_o which_o if_o it_o be_v a_o good_a mind_n can_v fail_v to_o suggest_v sufficient_a argument_n against_o it_o but_o if_o the_o temptation_n do_v so_o hurry_v the_o man_n as_o that_o he_o can_v deliberate_v he_o be_v so_o far_o innocent_a and_o if_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o consider_v he_o retract_v the_o evil_a consent_n into_o which_o his_o will_n be_v surprise_v before_o it_o pass_v into_o action_n or_o if_o have_v act_v it_o before_o he_o be_v aware_a he_o become_v more_o wary_a and_o watchful_a for_o the_o future_a it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o his_o fault_n as_o his_o misery_n it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v surprise_v of_o temptation_n which_o be_v not_o innocent_a but_o then_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o pure_a surprise_v but_o such_o as_o do_v not_o incapacitate_v we_o to_o deliberate_v and_o if_o when_o it_o be_v in_o our_o power_n we_o either_o do_v not_o deliberate_v at_o all_o or_o not_o enough_o but_o make_v a_o rash_a and_o foolish_a choice_n when_o if_o we_o have_v use_v our_o utmost_a care_n we_o may_v have_v choose_v more_o advise_o our_o choice_n be_v culpable_a and_o so_o be_v the_o action_n thence_o proceed_v but_o see_v we_o be_v the_o religion_n of_o man_n and_o not_o of_o angel_n and_o it_o can_v reasonable_o be_v expect_v consider_v our_o circumstance_n that_o we_o shall_v always_o do_v as_o well_o as_o possible_o we_o can_v it_o be_v to_o be_v suppose_v that_o this_o religion_n of_o we_o which_o be_v purposely_o accommodate_v to_o our_o imperfect_a state_n admit_v we_o to_o be_v good_a in_o the_o main_n though_o we_o be_v not_o so_o to_o perfection_n or_o which_o be_v the_o same_o thing_n to_o the_o utmost_a of_o our_o possibility_n for_o while_o our_o soul_n be_v fain_o to_o minister_v to_o a_o body_n and_o have_v so_o quick_a a_o sense_n of_o its_o necessity_n and_o while_o we_o be_v encompass_v with_o so_o vast_a a_o variety_n of_o tempt_a object_n and_o our_o thought_n be_v so_o disperse_v and_o squander_v among_o they_o it_o be_v moral_o impossible_a but_o that_o many_o of_o our_o action_n shall_v be_v unadvised_a and_o pass_v our_o watch_n without_o a_o severe_a examination_n nor_o can_v it_o reasonable_o be_v expect_v that_o we_o shall_v in_o all_o case_n where_o it_o be_v in_o our_o power_n so_o precise_o weigh_v every_o minute_n circumstance_n of_o our_o action_n as_o to_o determine_v exact_o on_o which_o side_n our_o duty_n lie_v and_o therefore_o shall_v our_o religion_n exact_v this_o of_o we_o without_o any_o mitigation_n or_o abatement_n i_o doubt_v that_o even_o the_o best_a of_o man_n will_v never_o be_v able_a to_o abide_v the_o test_n of_o it_o but_o then_o beside_o this_o kind_a of_o inconsideration_n which_o be_v either_o pure_o involuntary_a and_o by_o consequence_n innocent_a or_o but_o partly_o voluntary_a and_o so_o excusable_a there_o be_v another_o sort_n of_o it_o which_o be_v absolute_o and_o inexcusable_o
