faith_n be_v weaken_v in_o its_o spiritual_a act_n especial_o in_o discern_v and_o behold_v the_o glory_n of_o christ._n for_o the_o mind_n be_v render_v unsteady_a in_o its_o inquiry_n after_o it_o be_v continual_o distract_v and_o divert_v with_o vain_a thought_n and_o imagination_n person_n under_o the_o power_n of_o such_o distemper_n may_v have_v the_o same_o doctrinal_a knowledge_n of_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n his_o office_n and_o his_o grace_n with_o other_o man_n and_o the_o same_o evidence_n of_o its_o truth_n fix_v on_o their_o mind_n but_o when_o they_o endeavour_v a_o real_a intuition_n into_o the_o thing_n themselves_o all_o thing_n be_v dark_a and_o confuse_a unto_o they_o from_o the_o uncertainty_n and_o instability_n of_o their_o own_o mind_n this_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o what_o i_o do_v design_n we_o have_v by_o faith_n a_o view_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ._n this_o view_n be_v weak_a and_o unsteady_a from_o the_o nature_n of_o faith_n itself_o and_o the_o way_n of_o its_o proposal_n unto_o we_o as_o in_o a_o glass_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o by_o sight_n we_o shall_v attain_v unto_o but_o moreover_o where_o corrupt_a lust_n or_o inordinate_a affection_n be_v indulge_v unto_o where_o they_o be_v not_o continual_o mortify_v where_o any_o one_o sin_n have_v a_o perplex_v prevalency_n in_o the_o mind_n faith_n will_v be_v so_o far_o weaken_v thereby_o as_o that_o it_o can_v neither_o see_v nor_o meditate_v upon_o this_o glory_n of_o christ_n in_o a_o due_a manner_n this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o most_o be_v so_o weak_a and_o due_a exercise_n every_o one_o that_o have_v it_o must_v and_o will_v have_v many_o thought_n concern_v and_o great_a affection_n to_o he_o see_v the_o description_n of_o these_o thing_n phil._n 3._o 8_o 10._o it_o be_v not_o possible_a i_o say_v that_o we_o shall_v behold_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o person_n office_n and_o grace_n with_o a_o due_a conviction_n of_o our_o concernment_n and_o interest_n therein_o but_o that_o our_o mind_n will_v be_v great_o affect_v with_o it_o and_o be_v fill_v with_o contemplation_n about_o it_o where_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o any_o it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v that_o they_o have_v not_o hear_v his_o voice_n at_o any_o time_n nor_o see_v his_o shape_n whatever_o they_o profess_v a_o spiritual_a sight_n of_o christ_n will_v assure_o produce_v love_n unto_o he_o and_o if_o any_o man_n love_v he_o not_o he_o never_o see_v he_o he_o know_v he_o not_o at_o all_o and_o that_o be_v no_o love_n which_o do_v not_o beget_v in_o we_o many_o thought_n of_o the_o object_n belove_v he_o therefore_o who_o be_v partaker_n of_o this_o grace_n will_v think_v much_o of_o what_o christ_n be_v in_o himself_o of_o what_o he_o have_v do_v for_o we_o of_o his_o love_n and_o condescension_n of_o the_o manifestation_n of_o all_o the_o glorious_a excellency_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n in_o he_o exert_v in_o a_o way_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o goodness_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o church_n thought_n and_o meditation_n of_o these_o thing_n will_v abound_v in_o we_o if_o we_o be_v not_o want_v unto_o the_o due_a exercise_n of_o not_o in_o reality_n though_o in_o some_o they_o may_v be_v only_o in_o a_o mean_a and_o low_a degree_n man_n do_v but_o deceive_v their_o own_o soul_n in_o hope_n of_o any_o benefit_n by_o christ_n or_o the_o gospel_n this_o therefore_o be_v the_o present_a case_n where_o there_o be_v prevail_v sinful_a distemper_n or_o inordinate_a affection_n in_o the_o mind_n such_o as_o those_o before_o mention_v as_o self-love_n love_v of_o the_o world_n care_n and_o fear_n about_o it_o with_o a_o excessive_a valuation_n of_o relation_n and_o enjoyment_n they_o will_v so_o far_o cumber_v and_o perplex_v it_o with_o a_o multitude_n of_o thought_n about_o their_o own_o object_n as_o shall_v leave_v no_o place_n for_o sedate_v meditation_n on_o christ_n and_o his_o glory_n and_o where_o the_o thought_n be_v engage_v the_o affection_n which_o partly_o excite_v they_o and_o partly_o be_v lead_v by_o they_o will_v be_v fix_v also_o col._n 3._o 1_o 2._o this_o be_v that_o which_o in_o the_o most_o great_o promote_v that_o imperfection_n which_o be_v in_o our_o view_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n by_o faith_n in_o this_o life_n according_a to_o the_o proportion_n and_o degree_n of_o the_o prevalency_n of_o affection_n corrupt_a earthly_a selfish_a or_o sensual_a fill_v the_o head_n and_o heart_n of_o man_n with_o a_o multitude_n of_o thought_n about_o what_o they_o be_v fix_v on_o or_o incline_v unto_o so_o be_v faith_n obstruct_v and_o weaken_v in_o this_o work_n and_o duty_n wherefore_o whereas_o there_o be_v a_o remainder_n of_o these_o lust_n as_o to_o the_o seed_n of_o they_o in_o we_o all_o though_o more_o mortify_v in_o some_o than_o in_o other_o yet_o have_v the_o same_o effect_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o all_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n of_o their_o
