generate_v but_o the_o creature_n consist_v of_o soul_n and_o body_n neither_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o i_o more_o absurd_a than_o that_o when_o god_n and_o nature_n have_v thus_o conjoin_v they_o the_o scripture_n always_o speak_v of_o the_o generation_n of_o the_o whole_a man_n and_o nature_n we_o see_v always_o bring_v forth_o the_o whole_a we_o shall_v notwithstanding_o make_v a_o separation_n fetch_v one_o part_n from_o heaven_n and_o another_o from_o earth_n and_o then_o vain_o tire_v ourselves_o to_o bring_v both_o end_n together_o again_o soul_n how_o the_o soul_n be_v propagate_v of_o the_o soul_n now_o if_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n may_v not_o be_v separate_v in_o this_o case_n much_o less_o shall_v we_o take_v upon_o we_o to_o assign_v the_o proper_a there_o be_v as_o yet_o no_o eye_n or_o ear_n for_o the_o soul_n to_o hear_v or_o see_v with_o yet_o there_o be_v work_n enough_o for_o it_o to_o heat_n and_o cool_v moisten_v and_o dry_v and_o thereby_o to_o separate_v and_o conjoin_v to_o thicken_v and_o thin_a to_o extend_v and_o contract_v to_o make_v rough_a and_o smooth_a to_o harden_v and_o soften_v these_o and_o such_o other_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o soul_n whereby_o it_o do_v ordain_v place_n number_n and_o form_v the_o seed_n for_o though_o they_o be_v the_o prime_n and_o secondary_a quality_n of_o the_o element_n yet_o celestial_a orb_n who_o by_o cause_v motion_n give_v it_o the_o first_o hint_n and_o power_n of_o grow_v and_o see_v the_o soul_n have_v such_o similitude_n with_o these_o corporal_a nature_n that_o though_o they_o have_v not_o matter_n and_o form_n as_o they_o have_v yet_o have_v a_o spiritual_a kind_n of_o composition_n which_o for_o likeness_n just_o merit_v the_o name_n therefore_o as_o the_o spiritual_a matter_n and_o form_n thereof_o be_v propagate_v from_o the_o parent_n by_o the_o seed_n so_o it_o must_v also_o have_v a_o spiritual_a external_a efficient_a cause_n more_o excellent_a soul_n must_v needs_o be_v agreeable_a to_o their_o nature_n which_o can_v be_v the_o star_n which_o be_v far_o inferior_a but_o god_n who_o be_v also_o a_o spirit_n and_o of_o a_o more_o excellent_a nature_n than_o our_o spirit_n even_o as_o the_o sun_n be_v more_o glorious_a than_o these_o earthly_a substance_n between_o who_o there_o be_v such_o sympathy_n that_o even_o as_o plant_n welke_o and_o fade_v without_o the_o force_n of_o their_o efficient_n that_o heavenly_a lamp_n the_o sun_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o those_o celestial_a orb_n but_o grow_v and_o flourish_v with_o they_o so_o how_o a_o soul_n separate_v from_o god_n and_o one_o unite_a unto_o he_o and_o enjoy_v the_o beam_n of_o his_o grace_n be_v either_o miserable_a or_o happy_a we_o know_v in_o part_n but_o can_v perfect_o comprehend_v chap._n xxviii_o reason_n from_o other_o consideration_n conception_n rareness_n of_o humane_a conception_n beside_o these_o argument_n take_v from_o the_o ordinary_a course_n womb_n but_o that_o there_o be_v some_o more_o special_a work_n of_o god_n in_o it_o than_o in_o the_o generation_n of_o other_o creature_n and_o if_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o god_n have_v such_o god_n concur_v as_o a_o efficient_a cause_n and_o natural_a mean_n only_o in_o the_o other_o â—â—â—le_n 2._o â—he_n imâ—â—ortaliâ—â—_n of_o the_o â—â—â—le_n from_o this_o natural_a yet_o divine_a instrument_n only_o but_o the_o form_n be_v proper_o and_o immediate_o he_o which_o if_o he_o do_v not_o propagate_v to_o his_o offspring_n he_o can_v no_o more_o be_v a_o father_n to_o his_o child_n than_o to_o flea_n or_o louse_n that_o breed_v of_o his_o matter_n but_o without_o his_o form_n than_o which_o what_o grosser_n absurdity_n can_v be_v in_o nature_n body_n 3._o else_o he_o can_v be_v have_v its_o extremity_n have_v therefore_o show_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n can_v neither_o be_v immediate_o create_v by_o god_n not_o yet_o mere_o propagate_v by_o man_n and_o prove_v this_o middle_a way_n between_o both_o both_o by_o scripture_n and_o natural_a reason_n i_o will_v now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o there_o may_v remain_v no_o just_a scruple_n to_o cavil_n at_o brief_o answer_v some_o few_o objection_n which_o i_o conceive_v may_v be_v make_v more_o direct_o even_o against_o this_o mean_a manner_n of_o the_o soul_n procreation_n and_o so_o conclude_v the_o from_o whence_o all_o come_v second_o god_n shall_v hereby_o still_o work_v immediate_o in_o the_o creation_n of_o soul_n and_o so_o shall_v not_o yet_o have_v end_v his_o work_n and_o rest_n from_o his_o labour_n three_o man_n shall_v still_o be_v inferior_a to_o beast_n in_o that_o he_o can_v beget_v his_o like_a alone_a but_o must_v have_v more_o help_n from_o god_n than_o they_o last_o god_n shall_v still_o be_v touch_v with_o sin_n in_o be_v the_o immediate_a efficient_a of_o our_o sinful_a soul_n all_o which_o may_v be_v as_o easy_o answer_v as_o object_v another_o 1_o obj._n that_o comparison_n be_v unequal_a and_o the_o cause_v nothing_o like_o unless_o we_o shall_v say_v that_o all_o body_n must_v return_v into_o adam_n also_o whence_o they_o come_v as_o well_o as_o soul_n second_o mix_v body_n be_v not_o the_o simple_a element_n but_o compound_v of_o they_o where_o as_o our_o soul_n be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o no_o less_o simple_a than_o his_o be_v three_o if_o it_o be_v compound_v yea_o even_o of_o the_o element_n yet_o it_o will_v not_o present_o follow_v that_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v mortal_a because_o corruption_n and_o death_n come_v not_o only_o nor_o so_o much_o from_o propagation_n or_o composition_n as_o from_o divine_a malediction_n for_o death_n be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n without_o which_o even_o adam_n body_n shall_v have_v be_v immortal_a as_o well_o as_o his_o soul_n last_o to_o this_o objection_n i_o will_v oppose_v a_o infallible_a conclusion_n viz._n that_o nothing_o can_v return_v to_o nothing_o but_o by_o the_o same_o
