they_o say_v therein_o that_o have_v not_o only_o no_o apt_a tendency_n to_o the_o great_a end_n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o man_n but_o some_o of_o they_o natural_o tend_v or_o incline_v to_o the_o contrary_n which_o consideration_n bring_v i_o to_o the_o last_o thing_n i_o design_v to_o speak_v to_o the_o last_o stumble_v block_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o take_v out_o of_o the_o deist_n way_n viz._n the_o consideration_n of_o divers_a doctrine_n now_o confident_o teach_v as_o orthodox_n and_o main_a point_n of_o christian_a faith_n which_o to_o render_v christianity_n more_o reasonable_a more_o like_o itself_o i_o shall_v not_o only_o ready_o disow_v but_o endeavour_v to_o show_v that_o they_o can_v reasonable_o be_v think_v to_o be_v doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n necessary_a to_o christianity_n or_o true_a that_o they_o can_v be_v account_v for_o or_o prove_v point_n of_o a_o rational_a faith_n or_o true_o deduce_v from_o the_o bible_n but_o be_v mistake_v take_v up_o through_o prejudice_n from_o tradition_n and_o confirm_v by_o mistake_a text_n of_o scripture_n it_o be_v a_o evil_a but_o common_a custom_n among_o man_n to_o take_v up_o opinion_n before_o they_o careful_o read_v the_o scripture_n or_o consider_v the_o agreement_n or_o disagreement_n of_o thing_n and_o then_o to_o labour_v to_o make_v the_o scripture_n prove_v and_o confirm_v understand_v as_o to_o be_v reconcileable_a to_o itself_o and_o to_o right_a reason_n and_o as_o this_o word_n reconcileable_a bring_v into_o my_o mind_n the_o notion_n of_o reconciliation_n which_o i_o take_v to_o be_v misunderstand_v by_o many_o i_o shall_v first_o begin_v with_o that_o point_n and_o endeavour_v to_o show_v the_o mistake_v about_o it_o 42._o it_o be_v the_o fancy_n of_o some_o that_o christ_n have_v reconcile_v god_n to_o sinner_n let_v we_o a_o little_a consider_v the_o matter_n reconciliation_n be_v a_o make_v friend_n of_o some_o or_o other_o at_o variance_n when_o there_o be_v disagreement_n enmity_n or_o hate_n in_o a_o person_n that_o do_v agree_v love_n and_o be_v a_o friend_n the_o take_v away_o or_o change_v these_o for_o agreement_n friendship_n and_o love_n be_v proper_o reconciliation_n now_o to_o say_v that_o christ_n have_v reconcile_v god_n to_o we_o be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v god_n be_v a_o friend_n and_o do_v love_v man_n but_o then_o become_v a_o enemy_n and_o hate_v he_o and_o then_o be_v make_v a_o friend_n and_o love_v he_o again_o but_o this_o can_v with_o no_o good_a reason_n be_v say_v of_o god_n because_o he_o be_v unchangeable_a and_o these_o thing_n imply_v a_o change_n foolish_a man_n be_v very_o apt_a to_o look_v upon_o god_n to_o be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o themselves_o now_o will_v one_o thing_n than_o another_o now_o angry_a then_o please_v because_o they_o find_v themselves_o so_o but_o such_o thing_n be_v imperfection_n incompatible_a with_o a_o selfsufficient_a be_v god_n have_v proper_o no_o passion_n must_v be_v confess_v though_o man_n do_v common_o speak_v of_o he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v and_o he_o be_v in_o scripture_n so_o represent_v sometime_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o men._n but_o he_o be_v the_o same_o still_o have_v the_o same_o will_n the_o same_o love_n to_o whatever_o be_v his_o own_o and_o can_v have_v less_o he_o represent_v himself_o as_o he_o be_v hate_v sin_n or_o that_o unjust_a and_o unhappy_a action_n of_o the_o creature_n willing_a contrary_n to_o its_o maker_n will_n but_o he_o never_o hate_v the_o creature_n his_o own_o work_n but_o love_v it_o he_o can_v be_v suppose_v to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o sin_n he_o never_o love_v or_o can_v love_v injustice_n to_o suppose_v he_o so_o reconcile_v as_o to_o approve_v like_v or_o allow_v sin_n in_o his_o creature_n will_v be_v to_o suppose_v he_o to_o will_v evil_a or_o contrary_a to_o his_o own_o will._n and_o he_o be_v not_o reconcile_v to_o his_o creature_n because_o he_o be_v never_o deconcile_v or_o a_o enemy_n to_o it_o his_o goodness_n and_o bounty_n be_v over_o all_o his_o work_n he_o be_v always_o ready_a to_o do_v good_a to_o his_o creature_n and_o make_v they_o happy_a it_o be_v they_o that_o be_v enemy_n to_o he_o and_o to_o themselves_o and_o to_o their_o own_o happiness_n a_o man_n that_o run_v into_o a_o cave_n and_o hide_v himself_o from_o the_o light_n and_o warmth_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o be_v persuade_v at_o length_n to_o come_v out_o and_o receive_v the_o benefit_n of_o its_o heat_n and_o splendour_n may_v as_o well_o say_v the_o sun_n be_v angry_a with_o he_o and_z mercy_n kindness_n and_o all_o perfection_n yea_o as_o much_o as_o god_n be_v above_o man_n so_o much_o great_a must_v we_o think_v be_v the_o mercy_n goodness_n and_o love_n of_o the_o father_n to_o sinner_n than_o that_o of_o the_o son_n who_o be_v but_o the_o image_n of_o he_o that_o be_v great_a than_o all_o god_n so_o love_v the_o world_n that_o he_o give_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n that_o any_o man_n that_o will_v descend_v into_o himself_o and_o consider_v that_o man_n have_v not_o always_o and_o exact_o do_v as_o he_o shall_v but_o have_v sometime_o will_v or_o do_v will_v otherwise_o than_o god_n will_v of_o this_o i_o say_v we_o may_v be_v soon_o convince_v by_o our_o own_o experience_n or_o conscience_n the_o sure_a of_o all_o conviction_n if_o it_o be_v true_a that_o as_o god_n be_v all_o perfect_a or_o sufficient_a in_o himself_o so_o that_o he_o have_v create_v thing_n to_o manifest_v his_o wisdom_n goodness_n and_o power_n etc._n etc._n to_o the_o intelligent_a creature_n that_o they_o may_v be_v as_o happy_a as_o they_o be_v capable_a of_o be_v it_o be_v most_o certain_a first_o that_o if_o i_o have_v not_o consider_v myself_o be_v once_o capable_a of_o reason_v and_o so_o find_v my_o cause_n and_o inquire_v and_o find_v what_o he_o be_v admire_v and_o love_v he_o and_o have_v thankful_a thought_n of_o he_o it_o be_v not_o because_o i_o be_v incapable_a of_o do_v so_o but_o because_o i_o will_v not_o and_o i_o have_v not_o will_v as_o become_v i_o as_o god_n will_v i_o shall_v but_o have_v sin_v second_o if_o i_o have_v will_v any_o thing_n that_o do_v not_o tend_v to_o make_v i_o as_o happy_a as_o i_o can_v be_v or_o as_o much_o please_v with_o god_n in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o work_n as_o i_o shall_v i_o have_v will_v otherwise_o than_o god_n will_v and_o so_o have_v sin_v but_o i_o find_v even_o after_o i_o have_v find_v god_n and_o somewhat_o consider_v he_o i_o have_v very_o much_o forbear_v or_o neglect_v to_o become_v i_o i_o have_v not_o always_o be_v please_v or_o glad_a in_o contemplate_v god_n in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o work_n and_o therefore_o i_o find_v i_o have_v not_o always_o will_v as_o god_n will_v i_o know_v or_o may_v soon_o do_v that_o god_n will_n be_v best_a in_o relation_n to_o himself_o and_o his_o creature_n i_o have_v be_v convince_v such_o and_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v mad_a a_o presumption_n as_o to_o endeavour_v to_o overcome_v and_o destroy_v he_o so_o great_a a_o folly_n and_o absurdity_n as_o to_o endeavour_v the_o impossibility_n of_o adnihilate_v the_o be_v of_o all_o being_n and_o consequent_o ourselves_o and_o all_o so_o great_a a_o treason_n boldness_n perverseness_n madness_n and_o injustice_n be_v contain_v in_o sin_n
by_o any_o man_n no_o nor_o by_o all_o man_n nor_o can_v a_o man_n enjoy_v what_o he_o be_v capable_a of_o enjoy_v altogether_o and_o at_o once_o so_o that_o where_o ever_o god_n forbid_v what_o we_o can_v desire_v it_o be_v but_o where_o a_o small_a enjoyment_n will_v hinder_v our_o have_v a_o great_a one_o frustrate_a our_o have_v many_o a_o small_a present_n and_o short_a one_o disappoint_v we_o of_o a_o future_a great_a and_o last_a one_o and_o what_o folly_n be_v it_o to_o be_v displease_v because_o god_n some_o way_n forbid_v a_o bodily_a or_o sensual_a pleasure_n that_o we_o may_v have_v a_o better_a a_o rational_a or_o mental_a one_o or_o a_o joy_n in_o a_o creature_n where_o it_o will_v hinder_v our_o rejoice_v in_o the_o creator_n himself_o i_o believe_v if_o we_o have_v time_n to_o trace_v in_o particular_a the_o disorder_n of_o man_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o all_o and_o every_o of_o they_o even_o their_o most_o beloved_a one_o do_v but_o abate_v their_o felicity_n where_o be_v any_o that_o do_v not_o tend_v to_o destroy_v our_o health_n or_o peace_n or_o wealth_n or_o ease_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o bring_v upon_o we_o some_o mischief_n or_o other_o by_o which_o the_o little_a pleasure_n in_o they_o be_v very_o much_o out-ballanced_n be_v it_o not_o high_o reasonable_a as_o well_o as_o for_o our_o interest_n that_o god_n who_o be_v most_o wise_a and_o most_o because_o we_o receive_v good_a from_o he_o we_o love_v he_o for_o self-sake_n and_o consequent_o love_v self_n best_o though_o it_o be_v not_o best_o which_o be_v the_o very_a root_n of_o evil_n in_o which_o we_o belie_v both_o god_n and_o self_n the_o creature_n comply_v with_o god_n will_n always_o find_v its_o advantage_n and_o so_o also_o be_v bind_v as_o to_o a_o debt_n to_o love_n god_n in_o gratitude_n but_o self_n must_v have_v but_o the_o second_o place_n because_o it_o be_v a_o creature_n consequent_a to_o the_o creator_n will_n and_o but_o a_o imperfect_a thing_n which_o in_o its_o self_n have_v also_o a_o evident_a indication_n that_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v best_a belove_v because_o of_o its_o incapacity_n of_o satisfy_v its_o own_o desire_n but_o it_o as_o we_o be_v but_o creature_n and_o know_v infinite_o less_o than_o he_o and_o consequent_o our_o will_n can_v be_v so_o good_a as_o he_o hence_o also_o it_o natural_o follow_v that_o if_o god_n have_v make_v we_o good_a or_o as_o become_v the_o best_a be_v to_o make_v and_o capable_a of_o good_a or_o pleasure_n we_o shall_v be_v thankful_a for_o our_o be_v and_o rejoice_v or_o take_v pleasure_n in_o consider_v god_n wisdom_n goodness_n and_o power_n so_o shall_v we_o be_v ready_a to_o comply_v with_o his_o will_n as_o instrument_n in_o manifest_v and_o communicate_v his_o power_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n to_o ourselves_o and_o our_o fellow_n creature_n and_o hate_v fear_v and_o avoid_v be_v a_o hindrance_n in_o any_o of_o these_o again_o we_o be_v rational_o oblige_v from_o make_v we_o capable_a by_o a_o little_a reason_n and_o attention_n to_o find_v out_o as_o his_o will_n which_o we_o have_v all_o reason_n to_o submit_v to_o trust_v his_o wisdom_n as_o the_o
