of_o the_o doctrine_n or_o learning_n of_o they_o therefore_o here_o to_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o repentance_n be_v either_o to_o teach_v or_o learn_v the_o doctrine_n of_o repentance_n and_o in_o like_a manner_n the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n in_o god_n of_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a and_o of_o eternal_a judgement_n all_o which_o doctrine_n be_v the_o principle_n of_o christian_a discipline_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o other_o christian_a verity_n dead_a work_n be_v deadly_a work_n such_o as_o bring_v and_o continue_v death_n upon_o the_o agent_n and_o repentance_n from_o these_o deadly_a work_n which_o be_v a_o principle_n of_o christianity_n include_v not_o only_o a_o sorrow_n of_o mind_n that_o thou_o have_v commit_v deadly_a work_n but_o also_o and_o much_o rather_o the_o effect_n of_o that_o sorrow_n which_o be_v a_o course_n of_o mind_n and_o life_n far_o diverse_a from_o the_o former_a for_o repentance_n be_v sometime_o distinguish_v from_o that_o sorrow_n as_o the_o effect_n from_o the_o cause_n see_v 2_o cor._n 7.9,10_o and_o of_o faith_n towards_o god_n what_o that_o be_v the_o author_n show_v afterward_o chap._n 11._o 2._o of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o baptism_n and_o the_o lay_v on_o of_o hand_n these_o word_n may_v be_v take_v two_o way_n either_o as_o they_o signify_v some_o part_n of_o the_o foundation_n distinct_a from_o the_o part_n both_o precede_a and_o follow_v namely_o from_o the_o doctrine_n of_o repentance_n and_o faith_n of_o the_o resurrection_n and_o eternal_a judgement_n or_o else_o as_o add_v by_o way_n of_o apposition_n for_o amplification_n sake_n q.d._n which_o doctrine_n of_o repentance_n and_o faith_n belong_v to_o those_o that_o be_v baptize_v and_o that_o receive_v imposition_n of_o hand_n if_o we_o follow_v the_o former_a sense_n and_o take_v they_o for_o part_n of_o the_o foundation_n to_o signify_v the_o doctrine_n of_o baptism_n and_o of_o imposition_n of_o hand_n then_o first_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v what_o that_o doctrine_n be_v the_o answer_n be_v that_o doctrine_n consist_v chief_o in_o show_v what_o baptism_n and_o imposition_n of_o hand_n signify_v and_o to_o what_o end_v they_o be_v use_v and_o these_o doctrine_n be_v therefore_o account_v among_o the_o principle_n of_o christianity_n because_o they_o be_v use_v from_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o church_n to_o initiate_v man_n into_o christ_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v needful_a that_o the_o disciple_n of_o christ_n shall_v at_o first_o be_v instruct_v in_o they_o and_o be_v teach_v their_o end_n and_o scope_n second_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v why_o he_o mention_n baptism_n in_o the_o plural_a number_n as_o if_o he_o intend_v many_o although_o the_o syriake_a translation_n render_v it_o baptism_n in_o the_o singular_a number_n see_v christian_n receive_v but_o one_o baptism_n of_o water_n for_o repentance_n resp_n this_o be_v therefore_o do_v either_o because_o he_o speak_v in_o respect_n of_o they_o that_o be_v baptize_v who_o because_o they_o be_v many_o make_v also_o many_o baptism_n or_o else_o because_o he_o respect_v both_o the_o baptism_n of_o john_n who_o be_v the_o forerunner_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o baptism_n of_o the_o apostle_n the_o follower_n of_o christ_n especial_o that_o wherewith_o the_o apostle_n baptize_v after_o the_o resurrection_n and_o ascension_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o baptism_n of_o john_n be_v the_o baptism_n of_o repentance_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v use_v as_o a_o sign_n and_o a_o pledge_n of_o future_a repentance_n for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n because_o by_o wash_v it_o resemble_v repentance_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n for_o both_o these_o be_v a_o wash_n from_o the_o filth_n of_o sin_n repentance_n be_v a_o wash_n from_o the_o act_n of_o it_o and_o remission_n from_o the_o guilt_n and_o pain_n of_o it_o repentance_n be_v signify_v as_o the_o baptism_n of_o those_o that_o be_v baptize_v of_o their_o own_o
may_v sway_v he_o so_o to_o grant_v something_o that_o if_o he_o grant_v it_o not_o we_o may_v well_o say_v he_o deal_v unequal_o and_o hardly_o in_o this_o latter_a way_n god_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v say_v unrighteous_a if_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o unmindful_a of_o virtue_n both_o past_a and_o present_a if_o he_o shall_v present_o reject_v man_n though_o otherwise_o worthy_a of_o reprobation_n if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o they_o according_a to_o his_o law_n and_o no_o way_n expect_v their_o repentance_n but_o whole_o exclude_v they_o from_o all_o address_n to_o his_o clemency_n &_o mercy_n he_o subjoin_v the_o labour_n of_o love_n for_o in_o the_o place_n last_o cite_v after_o that_o conflict_n which_o they_o endure_v the_o author_n mention_n their_o office_n of_o charity_n which_o they_o exercise_v towards_o the_o saint_n and_o it_o be_v not_o likely_a that_o in_o this_o place_n where_o especial_o their_o good_a work_n be_v to_o be_v mention_v the_o author_n will_v pass_v over_o their_o noble_a act_n which_o consist_v in_o suffer_v for_o christ_n cause_n for_o paul_n have_v join_v these_o two_o together_o the_o work_n of_o faith_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n 1_o th._n to_o the_o saint_n mere_o therefore_o because_o they_o be_v saint_n and_o consecrate_v unto_o god_n for_o he_o that_o minister_v to_o the_o saint_n and_o show_n love_v to_o the_o saint_n therefore_o because_o they_o be_v saint_n and_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o god_n he_o show_v love_n towards_o the_o name_n of_o god_n as_o he_o that_o minister_v to_o a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n because_o he_o be_v his_o disciple_n he_o minister_v to_o christ_n himself_o as_o much_o as_o you_o have_v do_v it_o say_v christ_n unto_o one_o of_o the_o least_o of_o these_o my_o brethren_n you_o have_v do_v it_o have_v perform_v to_o ourselves_o if_o we_o be_v in_o his_o case_n and_o do_v minister_v this_o virtue_n of_o minister_a to_o the_o saint_n be_v not_o yet_o quite_o cease_v in_o they_o albeit_o it_o may_v be_v somewhat_o abate_v 11._o and_o we_o desire_v here_o he_o pass_v to_o the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o chapter_n wherein_o he_o exhort_v they_o to_o a_o diligent_a and_o constant_a course_n purpose_n of_o his_o own_o whereby_o he_o may_v seem_v to_o fore_n know_v it_o for_o in_o this_o sense_n we_o many_o time_n attribute_v expectation_n to_o a_o thing_n so_o this_o author_n chap._n their_o brethren_n and_o companion_n man_n be_v use_v to_o reproach_n and_o affliction_n when_o they_o many_o time_n and_o often_o suffer_v they_o and_o by_o reason_n of_o they_o be_v agitate_a vex_a while_n another_o motive_n to_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o patience_n in_o suffering_n urge_v by_o way_n of_o prevent_v a_o objection_n some_o man_n may_v say_v it_o be_v a_o hard_a case_n for_o a_o man_n to_o lie_v under_o affliction_n so_o long_o a_o time_n and_o to_o expect_v the_o promise_n whereof_o you_o speak_v after_o many_o age_n to_o this_o the_o author_n answer_v that_o the_o time_n
