christ_n for_o our_o work_n can_v please_v he_o till_o our_o person_n please_v he_o and_o whatsoever_o we_o do_v before_o faith_n have_v purify_v the_o heart_n it_o be_v sin_n and_o odious_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o we_o have_v faith_n beget_v in_o we_o present_o it_o apprehend_v christ_n and_o his_o righteousness_n whereby_o we_o be_v justify_v and_o then_o be_v justify_v faith_n work_v by_o love_n and_o bring_v forth_o in_o we_o the_o fruit_n of_o sanctification_n which_o though_o they_o be_v mingle_v with_o much_o corruption_n and_o manifold_a gaed_n love_v towards_o us._n first_o we_o be_v to_o set_v before_o we_o the_o infinite_a love_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o base_a and_o vile_a creature_n altogether_o unworthy_a of_o his_o least_o favour_n by_o reason_n of_o our_o sin_n the_o which_o his_o love_n as_o it_o plain_o appear_v in_o all_o other_o his_o mercy_n and_o manifold_a benefit_n bestow_v on_o we_o so_o especial_o in_o send_v his_o only_a beget_v and_o dear_o belove_a son_n not_o only_o to_o suffer_v some_o small_a misery_n but_o even_o death_n itself_o yea_o that_o curse_a ignominious_a and_o cruel_a death_n of_o the_o cross_n for_o we_o who_o be_v not_o his_o love_a friend_n or_o faithful_a servant_n but_o oppose_v enemy_n and_o rebellious_a traitor_n who_o have_v renounce_v his_o service_n and_o yield_v ourselves_o as_o slave_n to_o satan_n ready_a to_o do_v his_o will_n see_v therefore_o our_o good_a god_n have_v so_o dear_o love_v we_o who_o be_v altogether_o unworthy_a his_o love_n and_o most_o worthy_a of_o his_o anger_n and_o heavy_a judgement_n o_o why_o shall_v not_o this_o flame_n of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o kindle_v some_o sparkle_n of_o love_n towards_o he_o again_o who_o be_v in_o himself_o the_o chief_a goodness_n and_o to_o we_o most_o kind_a and_o gracious_a if_o for_o our_o sake_n who_o be_v his_o abject_a enemy_n he_o have_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n but_o give_v he_o to_o die_v for_o we_o shall_v we_o not_o for_o his_o sake_n who_o be_v our_o chief_a friend_n be_v as_o willing_a to_o part_v with_o our_o sin_n and_o to_o kill_v and_o crucify_v all_o our_o carnal_a corruption_n neither_o can_v we_o by_o any_o other_o mean_v so_o clear_o show_v our_o love_n to_o god_n as_o by_o hate_v sin_n which_o above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n be_v most_o hateful_a and_o odious_a unto_o he_o and_o the_o only_a cause_n which_o make_v he_o abhor_v even_o his_o excellent_a creature_n so_o that_o though_o he_o love_v they_o as_o be_v his_o own_o work_n yet_o he_o detest_v they_o be_v defile_v with_o the_o filthy_a spot_n of_o sin_n yea_o so_o odious_a be_v sin_n unto_o our_o righteous_a god_n that_o he_o can_v not_o choose_v but_o punish_v it_o in_o his_o dear_o belove_a son_n who_o bear_v our_o transgression_n and_o sustain_v our_o person_n and_o when_o there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n to_o subdue_v the_o power_n of_o sin_n he_o give_v watchful_a in_o the_o one_o as_o the_o other_o or_o else_o we_o shall_v most_o certain_o loose_v our_o labour_n §_o sect._n 2_o second_o sin_n the_o second_o mean_n to_o make_v conscience_n of_o the_o to_o entrap_v we_o and_o ten_o thousand_o snare_n do_v satan_n lay_v to_o entangle_v we_o and_o therefore_o it_o behoove_v we_o to_o look_v narrow_o to_o our_o way_n and_o to_o be_v always_o as_o ready_a to_o give_v satan_n the_o repulse_n as_o he_o to_o make_v the_o encounter_n and_o consider_v that_o if_o we_o do_v not_o assault_v sin_n it_o will_v most_o sure_o set_v upon_o we_o and_o at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o will_v give_v we_o the_o foil_n if_o we_o only_o lie_v at_o ward_n and_o never_o offer_v blow_n against_o this_o our_o enemy_n therefore_o it_o behoove_v every_o christian_n soldier_n not_o only_o to_o give_v sin_n a_o repulse_n but_o also_o to_o wound_v it_o in_o the_o head_n and_o beat_v it_o down_o that_o it_o may_v not_o again_o assault_v he_o or_o at_o least_o not_o with_o wont_a power_n and_o violence_n and_o for_o as_o much_o as_o he_o have_v many_o enemy_n which_o can_v at_o once_o be_v overcome_v therefore_o he_o be_v to_o labour_v to_o get_v every_o day_n the_o mastery_n of_o some_o sin_n and_o to_o bring_v it_o in_o subjection_n that_o so_o in_o continuance_n of_o time_n he_o may_v vanquish_v all_o and_o obtain_v a_o full_a and_o final_a victory_n our_o all_o his_o corruption_n §_o sect._n 4_o four_o if_o we_o will_v not_o fall_v into_o grievous_a sin_n power_n the_o four_o mean_n to_o rest_v on_o god_n assistance_n and_o not_o on_o our_o own_o power_n we_o must_v not_o stand_v in_o our_o own_o power_n nor_o trust_v in_o our_o own_o strength_n but_o whole_o rest_v and_o rely_v upon_o god_n promise_a assistance_n for_o if_o once_o we_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o glory_n and_o arrogate_v the_o praise_n of_o our_o victory_n over_o sin_n and_o satan_n unto_o ourselves_o the_o lord_n will_v withdraw_v his_o help_a hand_n and_o leave_v we_o unto_o ourselves_o till_o by_o our_o grievous_a fall_n we_o have_v learn_v to_o acknowledge_v our_o own_o weakness_n and_o to_o rest_v whole_o in_o the_o power_n of_o his_o might_n for_o as_o all_o other_o sin_n be_v odious_a unto_o god_n so_o especial_o the_o sin_n of_o pride_n because_o it_o make_v vile_a man_n corrival_n with_o god_n in_o his_o praise_n and_o glory_n of_o which_o he_o be_v most_o jealous_a and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n suffer_v even_o his_o own_o child_n to_o fall_v into_o grievous_a sin_n that_o hereby_o they_o may_v be_v humble_v and_o so_o use_v other_o sin_n as_o a_o our_o sin_n will_v not_o move_v the_o lord_n to_o reject_v us._n for_o we_o be_v the_o lord_n child_n and_o he_o our_o gracious_a father_n now_o we_o know_v that_o a_o love_a father_n will_v not_o reject_v his_o child_n because_o he_o be_v sick_a lame_a or_o in_o miserable_a estate_n but_o rather_o he_o be_v more_o tender_a over_o he_o till_o he_o be_v recover_v of_o his_o infirmity_n but_o land_n because_o it_o bring_v forth_o thorn_n and_o thistle_n but_o rather_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o diligent_a and_o painful_a in_o weed_n and_o till_v it_o that_o it_o may_v be_v fit_v for_o good_a seed_n and_o bring_v unto_o he_o plentiful_a increase_n and_o so_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o cast_v we_o off_o because_o we_o natural_o bring_v forth_o the_o weed_n and_o thistle_n of_o sin_n hereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v the_o whole_a praise_n of_o our_o salvation_n see_v he_o save_v we_o of_o his_o mere_a mercy_n and_o not_o for_o our_o work_n and_o worthiness_n whereas_o if_o our_o righteousness_n and_o sanctification_n be_v perfect_a we_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o share_v with_o god_n ascribe_v part_n in_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n hereby_o the_o lord_n continual_o put_v we_o in_o mind_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o manifold_a benefit_n to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o daily_o taste_v of_o they_o may_v also_o daily_o return_v unto_o he_o thanks_o and_o praise_n if_o he_o shall_v at_o once_o free_v we_o from_o sin_n and_o endue_v we_o with_o a_o full_a measure_n of_o grace_n and_o perfect_a righteousness_n we_o will_v soon_o be_v forgetful_a of_o his_o abundant_a mercy_n and_o this_o forgetfulness_n will_v work_v in_o we_o unthankfulness_n and_o this_o unthankfulness_n will_v make_v we_o neglect_v his_o worship_n and_o service_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v not_o at_o once_o enrich_v we_o but_o let_v we_o continue_v in_o our_o poverty_n that_o so_o we_o may_v continual_o depend_v upon_o he_o and_o like_o a_o wise_a householder_n he_o do_v not_o sudden_o advance_v we_o to_o our_o high_a preferment_n for_o than_o we_o will_v leave_v his_o service_n and_o betake_v we_o to_o our_o ease_n and_o pleasure_n but_o he_o bestow_v his_o benefit_n by_o little_a and_o little_a and_o so_o keep_v we_o still_o in_o expectation_n of_o receive_v more_o he_o retain_v we_o still_o in_o his_o service_n and_o every_o day_n increase_v his_o bounty_n he_o put_v also_o into_o our_o mouth_n new_a song_n of_o thanksgiving_n and_o give_v we_o daily_o new_a occasion_n of_o praise_v his_o magnificence_n §_o sect._n 13_o humility_n that_o he_o may_v hereby_o work_v in_o we_o true_a humility_n second_o as_o the_o lord_n hereby_o advance_v his_o own_o glory_n so_o also_o he_o work_v our_o good_a and_o further_v our_o eternal_a salvation_n for_o first_o by_o leave_v in_o we_o these_o relic_n of_o sin_n and_o manifold_a imperfection_n he_o work_v in_o we_o true_a humility_n which_o of_o all_o other_o grace_n be_v most_o acceptable_a unto_o he_o and_o mortify_v our_o pride_n which_o of_o all_o other_o vice_n be_v most_o odious_a and_o abominable_a in_o his_o sight_n for_o when_o we_o see_v our_o manifold_a infirmity_n and_o corruption_n of_o sin_n all_o cause_n of_o pride_n and_o self-conceit_n be_v take_v away_o and_o we_o in_o all_o humility_n be_v move_v to_o confess_v 3.22_o lam._n 3.22_o that_o it_o be_v god_n mercy_n that_o we_o be_v not_o consume_v how_o much_o more_o that_o notwithstanding_o our_o vileness_n and_o unworthiness_n he_o have_v make_v we_o his_o son_n and_o heir_n of_o everlasting_a glory_n and_o thus_o of_o the_o flesh_n of_o this_o viper_n sin_n do_v the_o lord_n make_v a_o sovereign_a antidote_n against_o the_o deadly_a poison_n of_o pride_n and_o as_o good_a surgeon_n do_v not_o sudden_o heal_v up_o the_o wound_n but_o keep_v it_o open_v till_o they_o have_v draw_v out_o the_o core_n and_o heal_v it_o to_o the_o bottom_n for_o otherwise_o it_o will_v putrify_v and_o become_v more_o dangerous_a so_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o at_o once_o heal_v the_o wound_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o leave_v they_o as_o it_o be_v open_a and_o uncured_a till_o he_o have_v draw_v out_o the_o core_n of_o pride_n which_o be_v leave_v in_o we_o though_o we_o be_v heal_v of_o all_o our_o other_o sin_n will_v more_o endanger_v we_o than_o all_o the_o rest_n wherein_o the_o lord_n confirm_v and_o further_v we_o in_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n for_o nothing_o more_o weaken_v and_o disable_v we_o than_o pride_n nothing_o more_o strengthen_v and_o uphold_v we_o than_o humility_n because_o the_o strength_n whereby_o we_o stand_v and_o repel_v our_o spiritual_a enemy_n be_v not_o our_o own_o ability_n but_o the_o power_n of_o god_n might_n
