which_o be_v to_o offer_v for_o they_o which_o be_v dead_a in_o christ_n either_o alm_n or_o fast_v or_o any_o other_o work_n of_o satisfaction_n yea_o &_o prayer_n in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v satisfactorious_a because_o of_o the_o labour_n thereof_o have_v a_o infallible_a effect_n even_o of_o justice_n for_o to_o satisfy_v for_o their_o pain_n yet_o so_o that_o the_o offerer_n be_v in_o grace_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v that_o which_o we_o touch_v before_o for_o that_o they_o be_v of_o the_o communion_n of_o christ_n mystical_a body_n and_o in_o great_a need_n of_o help_n and_o therefore_o do_v receive_v the_o influence_n from_o the_o head_n as_o other_o member_n do_v and_o as_o there_o be_v a_o equality_n of_o justice_n in_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o one_o just_a man_n offer_v for_o another_o be_v alive_a so_o also_o be_v there_o the_o same_o kind_n of_o justice_n in_o the_o same_o satisfaction_n offer_v for_o the_o dead_a prayer_n be_v two_o way_n profitable_a unto_o the_o dead_a wherefore_o it_o be_v very_o profitable_a for_o he_o which_o pray_v for_o the_o dead_a not_o only_o to_o offer_v his_o prayer_n to_o obtain_v mercy_n for_o he_o but_o also_o to_o offer_v unto_o god_n that_o very_a labour_n of_o pray_v for_o he_o for_o in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v satisfactorious_a &_o have_v a_o infallible_a effect_n for_o he_o in_o the_o other_o respect_n it_o be_v impetratorious_a and_o have_v no_o certain_a promise_a measure_n of_o benefit_n but_o only_o according_a to_o god_n mere_a liberality_n the_o devotion_n of_o the_o party_n which_o pray_v and_o the_o estate_n of_o the_o party_n decease_a consider_v yet_o do_v i_o not_o doubt_v but_o that_o always_o something_o be_v also_o obtain_v when_o the_o satisfaction_n be_v available_a for_o it_o belong_v to_o god_n merciful_a liberality_n to_o bestow_v where_o we_o by_o his_o gracious_a permission_n &_o promise_n do_v bestow_v so_o that_o it_o be_v very_o convenient_a to_o think_v that_o if_o in_o such_o prayer_n the_o satisfaction_n be_v sufficient_o derive_v to_o the_o dead_a by_o our_o application_n god_n also_o by_o hear_v the_o same_o prayer_n do_v liberal_o grant_v our_o request_n in_o part_n and_o add_v somewhat_o to_o the_o value_n of_o our_o small_a recompense_n which_o we_o make_v for_o our_o brother_n yet_o as_o the_o quantity_n be_v uncertain_a so_o may_v it_o be_v much_o more_o the_o devotion_n of_o the_o prayer_n be_v fervent_a than_o that_o which_o proceed_v from_o the_o certain_a limit_a fruit_n of_o the_o satisfaction_n these_o help_v therefore_o which_o we_o may_v afford_v unto_o the_o soul_n depart_v be_v call_v the_o suffrage_n of_o the_o dead_a now_o even_o as_o in_o those_o which_o be_v alive_a by_o the_o indulgence_n of_o the_o church_n recompense_n be_v make_v for_o that_o temporal_a punishment_n which_o they_o aâ—e_v deserve_v so_o also_o may_v the_o same_o indulgence_n take_v away_o the_o debt_n of_o those_o which_o be_v depart_v and_o that_o as_o infallible_o as_o they_o be_v profitable_a to_o those_o which_o be_v in_o this_o world_n for_o this_o be_v the_o whole_a course_n of_o a_o indulgence_n in_o this_o life_n peter_n owe_v unto_o almighty_a god_n great_a penance_n and_o because_o man_n which_o be_v alive_a may_v apply_v their_o satisfaction_n for_o peter_n relief_n therefore_o may_v the_o pope_n out_o of_o the_o treasure_n indulgence_n receive_v a_o perfect_a supply_n of_o that_o which_o by_o the_o suffrage_n they_o may_v receive_v this_o do_v the_o divine_n call_v per_fw-la modum_fw-la suffragij_fw-la and_o it_o be_v so_o also_o call_v in_o the_o ordinary_a pardon_n by_o way_n of_o suffrage_n that_o be_v not_o as_o some_o do_v miss_n understand_v it_o as_o if_o the_o meaning_n of_o such_o a_o pardon_n be_v if_o they_o can_v obtain_v it_o of_o god_n they_o shall_v deliver_v a_o soul_n out_o of_o purgatory_n for_o then_o the_o pardon_n can_v not_o be_v of_o certain_a force_n for_o the_o dead_a but_o the_o sense_n be_v they_o shall_v deliver_v a_o soul_n out_o of_o purgatory_n even_o as_o if_o they_o have_v do_v so_o much_o of_o ordinary_a suffrage_n for_o they_o as_o be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o whole_a effect_n of_o the_o indulgence_n this_o shall_v be_v more_o clear_a if_o we_o consider_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o manner_n of_o speech_n which_o be_v this_o to_o those_o which_o live_v in_o this_o world_n indulgence_n be_v not_o only_o recompense_v make_v to_o god_n for_o our_o debt_n but_o also_o a_o proper_a absolution_n the_o pope_n absolve_a we_o and_o pay_v that_o which_o we_o owe_v out_o of_o the_o treasure_n now_o the_o pope_n have_v no_o authority_n or_o jurisdiction_n over_o the_o dead_a he_o can_v absolve_v they_o yet_o as_o he_o may_v and_o all_o other_o christian_n may_v by_o common_a suffrage_n yield_v they_o convenient_a help_n so_o may_v he_o supply_v such_o help_n by_o apply_v out_o of_o the_o treasure_n that_o which_o may_v be_v available_a unto_o they_o and_o therefore_o although_o he_o do_v not_o absolve_v they_o as_o not_o be_v their_o judge_n yet_o he_o apply_v to_o their_o certain_a benefitte_n and_o relief_n the_o common_a satisfaction_n of_o christ_n &_o of_o his_o saint_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o custody_n wherefore_o when_o he_o say_v i_o grant_v this_o indulgence_n by_o way_n of_o suffrage_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o say_v i_o doâ—_n not_o absolve_v they_o pardon_n for_o deâ—d_n â—equire_v a_o just_a cause_n but_o apply_v
