of_o misery_n be_v moderate_v and_o subdue_v in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o it_o may_v do_v no_o harm_n to_o the_o same_o soul_n by_o put_v it_o into_o disorder_n and_o by_o make_v it_o swerve_v from_o the_o right_a line_n of_o reason_n this_o be_v that_o patience_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o we_o and_o to_o which_o we_o be_v bind_v by_o express_a commandment_n whereby_o a_o man_n be_v secure_v from_o commit_v either_o mortal_a or_o venial_a sin_n in_o such_o occasion_n but_o other_o degree_n of_o patience_n there_o be_v of_o great_a perfection_n which_o belong_v to_o counsel_n quench_v entire_o that_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n which_o a_o mind_n receive_v through_o the_o evil_n of_o punishment_n but_o to_o moderate_v it_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o it_o may_v not_o be_v inordinate_a and_o hurtful_a he_o say_v thus_o some_o think_v that_o true_a constancy_n and_o wisdom_n consist_v in_o not_o feel_v those_o scourge_n and_o contradiction_n which_o come_v to_o we_o in_o this_o life_n from_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o other_o have_v too_o excessive_a sense_n thereof_o and_o be_v too_o much_o afflict_v and_o dismay_v thereby_o but_o the_o true_a virtue_n of_o patience_n and_o true_a wisdom_n teach_v we_o to_o hold_v the_o mean_a between_o those_o two_o extreme_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o a_o christian_n must_v neither_o be_v of_o a_o stupid_a heart_n because_o this_o necessary_a virtue_n of_o patience_n consist_v not_o in_o that_o a_o man_n feel_v no_o sorrow_n for_o his_o adversity_n nor_o yet_o that_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o shall_v strength_n of_o mind_n as_o that_o he_o transgress_v not_o the_o bound_n of_o reason_n and_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o if_o we_o consider_v man_n in_o his_o natural_a force_n not_o only_o be_v this_o hard_a for_o he_o but_o whole_o impossible_a for_o though_o as_o saint_n thomas_n say_v well_o a_o man_n for_o the_o enjoy_n of_o temporal_a blessing_n endure_v even_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n many_o grievous_a thing_n because_o the_o natural_a love_n which_o he_o carry_v to_o himself_o help_v he_o on_o and_o with_o the_o great_a natural_a love_n he_o over_o come_v another_o love_n which_o be_v less_o yet_o to_o obtain_v spiritual_a and_o eternal_a blessing_n wherein_o consist_v our_o salvation_n which_o be_v the_o true_a end_n of_o virtue_n he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o endure_v they_o for_o a_o natural_a love_n be_v not_o able_a to_o produce_v this_o effect_n but_o a_o love_n supernatural_a and_o grace_n from_o heaven_n be_v necessary_a for_o the_o endure_v thereof_o and_o so_o we_o see_v that_o the_o philosopher_n and_o wise_a man_n of_o the_o world_n who_o by_o the_o strain_n upon_o the_o force_n of_o nature_n do_v profess_v to_o obtain_v the_o true_a virtue_n of_o patience_n be_v able_a indeed_o to_o reach_v but_o to_o the_o shadow_n and_o appearance_n thereof_o as_o saint_n cyprian_a note_n in_o these_o word_n i_o find_v not_o o_o my_o brethren_n that_o among_o all_o the_o way_n of_o spirit_n which_o be_v teach_v we_o by_o our_o holy_a religion_n any_o one_o of_o they_o be_v more_o useful_a towards_o the_o obtain_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n than_o this_o of_o perfect_a patience_n this_o be_v profess_v by_o the_o philosopher_n but_o as_o the_o wisdom_n which_o they_o profess_v be_v for_o the_o most_o part_v not_o solid_a and_o be_v the_o discourse_n of_o s._n cyprian_n now_o therefore_o since_o the_o weakness_n of_o man_n be_v so_o great_a in_o suffer_v cross_n with_o patience_n and_o that_o he_o be_v in_o so_o great_a
