they_o think_v they_o may_v follow_v that_o corruption_n without_o sin_v provide_v they_o do_v no_o evil_a reprovable_a before_o man_n and_o have_v a_o will_v to_o do_v well_o and_o love_n god_n which_o notwithstanding_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o be_v save_v for_o good_a desire_n without_o effect_n be_v nothing_o before_o god_n they_o be_v indeed_o foundation_n stone_n serve_v to_o the_o build_n of_o true_a virtue_n for_o without_o good_a desire_n we_o can_v do_v good_a work_n we_o must_v first_o have_v the_o desire_n and_o after_o put_v it_o in_o execution_n which_o be_v want_v to_o many_o person_n of_o a_o good_a will_n who_o content_n themselves_o to_o be_v of_o a_o good_a will_n and_o hope_v with_o that_o all_o shall_v go_v well_o without_o consider_v that_o the_o holy_a except_o we_o depart_v from_o evil_a and_o he_o that_o do_v not_o resist_v that_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o renounce_v it_o can_v acquire_v true_a virtue_n which_o few_o person_n comprehend_v and_o thence_o be_v it_o that_o they_o have_v only_o apparent_a virtue_n and_o no_o real_a one_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o i_o have_v resolve_v to_o cause_n print_v these_o twenty_o four_o
letter_n which_o treat_v of_o virtue_n that_o they_o who_o aspire_v unto_o it_o may_v see_v the_o state_n wherein_o they_o be_v and_o also_o if_o they_o have_v acquire_v any_o degree_n of_o it_o or_o if_o their_o virtue_n be_v only_o imaginary_a i_o do_v not_o present_v this_o matter_n of_o true_a virtue_n to_o all_o in_o general_a since_o many_o shall_v find_v it_o too_o difficult_a to_o be_v diligence_n which_o it_o require_v but_o i_o speak_v to_o the_o free_a and_o generous_a soul_n who_o have_v abandon_v the_o world_n to_o follow_v jesus_n christ_n and_o such_o will_v easy_o understand_v i_o for_o none_o be_v better_a dispose_v to_o understand_v i_o than_o he_o that_o will_v practice_v true_a virtue_n and_o other_o who_o have_v not_o that_o desire_n may_v content_v themselves_o to_o know_v the_o command_n of_o god_n in_o general_n see_v they_o aspire_v not_o to_o a_o great_a perfection_n so_o i_o say_v to_o they_o as_o st._n john_n to_o the_o soldier_n use_v no_o violence_n nor_o fraud_n to_o any_o person_n and_o be_v content_a with_o your_o wage_n he_o say_v so_o to_o they_o because_o he_o find_v they_o not_o dispose_v for_o great_a perfection_n and_o every_o one_o be_v free_a to_o tend_v to_o what_o degree_n of_o perfection_n he_o will_v so_o st._n john_n choose_v of_o two_o evil_n the_o least_o in_o councel_n the_o soldier_n to_o be_v content_a what_o be_v express_v in_o these_o command_n but_o the_o soul_n who_o have_v abandon_v the_o world_n to_o follow_v jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o revive_v in_o his_o spirit_n must_v labour_v with_o all_o their_o force_n to_o acquire_v this_o true_a virtue_n in_o renounce_v the_o corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n and_o they_o may_v well_o be_v assure_v that_o they_o can_v never_o arrive_v at_o a_o true_o christian_a life_n unless_o they_o have_v overcome_v the_o inclination_n of_o that_o corrupt_a nature_n therefore_o must_v we_o labour_v with_o diligence_n in_o the_o mortification_n of_o our_o sense_n that_o we_o may_v carry_v the_o victory_n over_o that_o corruption_n which_o sin_n have_v bring_v unto_o human_a nature_n without_o that_o our_o virtue_n be_v false_a or_o only_o apparent_a and_o in_o no_o wise_a virtue_n before_o god_n for_o if_o you_o show_v i_o a_o person_n sober_a and_o chaste_a and_o upright_o in_o his_o business_n who_o impart_v his_o good_n to_o the_o poor_a who_o fast_v at_o appoint_a time_n with_o many_o other_o good_a deed_n and_o yet_o follow_v the_o motion_n of_o corrupt_a nature_n i_o esteem_v nothing_o all_o these_o virtue_n if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o renounciation_n of_o his_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o he_o have_v not_o entire_o renounce_v his_o own_o will_n for_o all_o these_o thing_n together_o come_v not_o near_o the_o victory_n which_o be_v in_o master_v the_o motion_n of_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o st._n paul_n name_v yet_o great_a virtue_n than_o these_o i_o have_v name_v when_o he_o say_v if_o i_o have_v the_o gift_n of_o prophecy_n and_o faith_n that_o can_v remove_v mountain_n and_o give_v all_o my_o good_n to_o nourish_v the_o poor_a i_o be_o nothing_o if_o i_o want_v charity_n now_o charity_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o love_n of_o god_n which_o we_o can_v obtain_v but_o in_o renounce_v self-love_n and_o hate_v the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n for_o we_o can_v never_o do_v good_a except_o we_o first_o depart_v from_o evil_a and_o all_o sort_n of_o evil_n be_v contain_v in_o the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n since_o it_o be_v fall_v into_o sin_n so_o that_o we_o can_v never_o arrive_v at_o true_a virtue_n but_o by_o renounce_v that_o corruption_n nor_o at_o the_o charity_n of_o which_o the_o apostle_n speak_v without_o have_v overcome_v it_o so_o i_o say_v with_o he_o unto_o all_o that_o will_v attain_v to_o true_a virtue_n that_o all_o other_o good_a action_n shall_v be_v nothing_o until_o we_o have_v surmount_v and_o overcome_v the_o corruption_n which_o sin_n have_v bring_v unto_o humane_a nature_n since_o all_o sort_n of_o evil_a spring_n thence_o and_o therein_o can_v no_o good_a be_v find_v though_o the_o blindness_n of_o man_n make_v they_o presume_v that_o they_o can_v
