to_o have_v do_v he_o as_o a_o love_a father_n towards_o his_o tender_a child_n who_o he_o dear_o love_v correct_v and_o chastise_v they_o with_o the_o rod_n of_o sickness_n or_o weakness_n or_o some_o such_o like_a rod_n that_o so_o they_o may_v see_v their_o own_o error_n and_o be_v heal_v for_o this_o cause_n say_v the_o apostle_n many_o be_v weak_a and_o sick_a among_o you_o 30._o 30._o and_o many_o sleep_n for_o this_o cause_n for_o what_o cause_n even_o for_o not_o discern_v the_o lord_n his_o body_n in_o come_v unto_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o which_o place_n the_o apostle_n plain_o show_v that_o therefore_o many_o of_o god_n child_n be_v weak_a and_o sick_a and_o die_v even_o because_o they_o do_v not_o due_o and_o diligent_o examine_v themselves_o before_o they_o come_v unto_o the_o celebration_n of_o the_o lord_n his_o supper_n but_o say_v he_o when_o we_o be_v judge_v and_o punish_v we_o be_v chastened_a of_o the_o lord_n as_o child_n of_o their_o father_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v with_o the_o world_n even_o with_o the_o wicked_a man_n of_o the_o world_n who_o portion_n be_v in_o the_o lake_n that_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n for_o ever_o sometime_o than_o god_n child_n be_v sick_a that_o so_o their_o error_n or_o their_o negligence_n or_o their_o wickedness_n may_v be_v reform_v and_o they_o bring_v into_o the_o right_a way_n wherein_o they_o shall_v walk_v another_o reason_n be_v that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v stay_v from_o such_o inordinate_a way_n as_o whereunto_o natural_o they_o be_v bend_v and_o wherein_o sometime_o they_o will_v walk_v if_o they_o be_v not_o hold_v back_o as_o with_o a_o bridle_n for_o who_o delight_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v so_o entire_a and_o so_o altogether_o uncorrupt_a before_o he_o that_o he_o make_v as_o he_o shall_v do_v his_o law_n his_o whole_a delight_n and_o his_o counsellor_n nay_o who_o path_n be_v so_o straight_o that_o he_o have_v not_o a_o overween_a delight_n in_o some_o crooked_a bypath_n or_o who_o will_n and_o desire_n and_o affection_n be_v so_o sanctify_v that_o they_o be_v not_o often_o incline_v and_o sometime_o carry_v as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o main_a stream_n unto_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n only_o wise_a know_v best_o what_o be_v best_a for_o his_o child_n sometime_o visit_v they_o with_o sickness_n that_o so_o be_v exercise_v with_o his_o rod_n they_o may_v not_o run_v into_o such_o danger_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n as_o otherwise_o they_o will_v a_o three_o reason_n why_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v sick_a sometime_o be_v that_o thereby_o he_o may_v make_v trial_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o of_o their_o patience_n to_o see_v whether_o they_o can_v be_v conrent_a as_o to_o receive_v health_n so_o to_o receive_v sickness_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o whether_o as_o in_o health_n so_o in_o sickness_n they_o will_v put_v their_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n for_o both_o health_n and_o sickness_n they_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o both_o in_o health_n and_o in_o sickness_n we_o shall_v put_v our_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o his_o will_n yet_o so_o choice_n we_o be_v that_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o receive_v health_n from_o the_o lord_n but_o hardly_o to_o receive_v sickness_n from_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o weak_a we_o be_v even_o the_o best_a of_o we_o that_o howsoever_o we_o do_v in_o health_n yet_o in_o sickness_n we_o can_v hardly_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o god_n his_o will_n and_o oftentimes_o more_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o physician_n then_o in_o the_o lord_n 16._o 2_o cron._n 16._o as_o we_o read_v that_o that_o good_a king_n of_o judah_n asa_n do_v therein_o decline_v from_o that_o right_a path_n wherein_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v walk_v sometime_o then_o as_o i_o say_v god_n child_n be_v sick_a that_o the_o lord_n their_o god_n may_v so_o try_v whether_o they_o will_v still_o cleave_v fast_o unto_o he_o and_o patient_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n a_o four_o reason_n why_o the_o loâ—d_n sometime_o visit_v his_o child_n with_o sickness_n be_v that_o they_o also_o may_v have_v a_o far_a trial_n of_o the_o merciful_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o they_o for_o albeit_o his_o child_n be_v never_o without_o great_a experience_n of_o his_o merciful_a goodness_n towards_o they_o yet_o wherein_o have_v they_o great_a experience_n thereof_o and_o wherein_o their_o soul_n more_o to_o rejoice_v then_o that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n he_o assi_v they_o with_o the_o comfort_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o give_v they_o strength_n and_o patience_n to_o endure_v what_o he_o lay_v upon_o they_o and_o suffer_v not_o their_o faith_n or_o their_o hope_n to_o fail_v but_o so_o prepare_v they_o unto_o he_o that_o come_v death_n come_v life_n they_o can_v willing_o embrace_v either_o because_o they_o know_v that_o come_v death_n come_v life_n they_o be_v the_o lord_n a_o especial_a great_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o his_o child_n whereof_o they_o have_v such_o trial_n in_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n as_o that_o thereby_o not_o themselves_n alone_o but_o such_o as_o be_v about_o they_o be_v and_o may_v be_v great_o comfort_v and_o sometime_o no_o doubt_n they_o be_v sick_a that_o see_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o they_o in_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n they_o may_v the_o rather_o praise_v the_o lord_n for_o his_o goodness_n and_o study_v to_o glorify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o health_n not_o to_o trouble_v you_o with_o more_o reason_n hereof_o the_o last_o reason_n why_o the_o lord_n visit_v his_o child_n with_o sickness_n be_v to_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n both_o of_o that_o sin_n which_o dwell_v in_o they_o and_o also_o of_o their_o mortality_n for_o sickness_n be_v both_o the_o fruit_n of_o sin_n and_o also_o the_o harbinger_n of_o death_n for_o howsoever_o sin_n be_v not_o the_o only_a cause_n wherefore_o sickness_n come_v yet_o be_v it_o always_o a_o cause_n wherefore_o it_o be_v send_v insomuch_o that_o we_o see_v when_o our_o saviour_n heal_v some_o that_o be_v sick_a he_o will_v say_v sometime_o unto_o they_o some_o be_v of_o good_a comfort_n thy_o sin_n be_v and_o likewise_o of_o death_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n thereof_o thus_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o lord_n lie_v this_o rod_n of_o sickness_n upon_o his_o own_o child_n namely_o cause_n of_o their_o destruction_n as_o we_o see_v heavy_a plague_n and_o judgement_n to_o have_v overtake_v hananiah_n shemaiah_n amaziah_n 7.17_o jer._n 28.16.29_o 25._o amos_n 7.17_o and_o other_o because_o they_o be_v malicious_a enemy_n against_o his_o prophet_n jeremiah_n amos_n and_o other_o the_o use_n which_o our_o apostle_n here_o teach_v we_o to_o make_v hereof_o be_v this_o not_o to_o fear_v the_o adversary_n that_o oppose_v themselves_o against_o we_o for_o when_o they_o persecute_v we_o from_o one_o city_n to_o another_o beat_v we_o imprison_v we_o and_o every_o way_n afflict_v we_o who_o hurt_n they_o even_o themselves_o they_o run_v themselves_o upon_o the_o rock_n and_o bring_v upon_o themselves_o swift_a damnation_n they_o think_v they_o have_v great_a mastery_n over_o
