who_o ought_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n and_o who_o to_o hell_n for_o ever_o according_a to_o the_o law_n by_o which_o they_o must_v then_o be_v judge_v 1._o as_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a law_n by_o which_o they_o must_v be_v judge_v so_o will_v there_o then_o be_v a_o twofold_a accusation_n the_o first_o will_v be_v that_o they_o be_v sinner_n and_o so_o have_v violate_v the_o law_n of_o god_n satisfy_v that_o though_o we_o know_v not_o the_o manner_n yet_o if_o he_o do_v it_o but_o by_o mental_a discovery_n as_o he_o show_v man_n what_o shall_v everlasting_o befall_v they_o so_o he_o will_v show_v they_o why_o it_o shall_v so_o befall_v they_o 1._o the_o sentence_n on_o they_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n will_v contain_v 1._o their_o justification_n and_o adjudication_n to_o they_o with_o vain_a and_o wander_a thought_n blind_a their_o mind_n that_o they_o can_v understand_v the_o plain_a word_n that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o speak_v to_o they_o and_o fill_v they_o with_o and_o be_v it_o not_o just_a with_o god_n to_o make_v these_o fiend_n their_o familiar_n in_o torment_n with_o who_o they_o entertain_v such_o familiarity_n in_o sin_n as_o christ_n with_o all_o the_o bless_a angel_n and_o saint_n will_v make_v but_o one_o kingdom_n or_o family_n and_o shall_v live_v altogether_o in_o perpetual_a delight_n so_o the_o devil_n and_o all_o his_o hellish_a angel_n slight_o do_v they_o reprove_v sin_n how_o little_o do_v they_o when_o they_o be_v out_o of_o the_o pulpit_n for_o the_o save_n of_o man_n soul_n 4._o do_v not_o the_o continue_a neglect_n of_o those_o thing_n wherein_o the_o interest_n of_o christ_n consist_v discover_v it_o 1._o the_o church_n purity_n and_o reformation_n 2._o it_o be_v unity_n 5._o do_v not_o the_o covetous_a and_o worldly_a life_n of_o too_o many_o discover_v it_o lose_v advantage_n for_o man_n soul_n for_o a_o little_a gain_n to_o themselves_o and_o most_o of_o this_o be_v because_o man_n be_v preacher_n before_o they_o be_v christian_n and_o tell_v man_n of_o that_o which_o they_o never_o feel_v themselves_o of_o all_o man_n on_o earth_n there_o be_v few_o that_o be_v in_o so_o sad_a a_o condition_n as_o such_o minister_n and_o if_o indeed_o they_o do_v believe_v that_o scripture_n which_o they_o preach_v methinks_v it_o shall_v be_v terrible_a to_o they_o in_o their_o study_v and_o preach_v it_o use_v 4._o belove_a hearer_n the_o office_n that_o god_n have_v call_v we_o to_o be_v by_o declare_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o help_v under_o christ_n to_o the_o save_n of_o man_n soul_n i_o hope_v you_o think_v not_o that_o i_o come_v hither_o to_o day_n on_o any_o other_o errand_n the_o lord_n know_v i_o have_v not_o set_v a_o foot_n out_o of_o door_n but_o in_o hope_n to_o succeed_v in_o this_o work_n for_o your_o soul_n i_o have_v consider_v and_o often_o consider_v what_o be_v the_o matter_n that_o so_o many_o thousand_o shall_v perish_v when_o god_n have_v do_v so_o unwilling_a that_o man_n shall_v be_v restore_v to_o god_n favour_n and_o be_v save_v but_o man_n be_v actual_o unwilling_a themselves_o god_n take_v not_o pleasure_n in_o the_o death_n of_o sinner_n but_o rather_o that_o they_o return_v and_o live_v ezek._n 33._o 11._o but_o man_n take_v such_o pleasure_n in_o sin_n that_o they_o will_v die_v before_o they_o will_v return_v the_o lord_n jesus_n guilty_a of_o it_o be_v a_o most_o lamentable_a thing_n to_o see_v how_o most_o man_n do_v spend_v their_o care_n their_o time_n their_o pain_n for_o know_a vanity_n while_o god_n and_o glory_n be_v cast_v aside_o that_o he_o who_o be_v all_o shall_v seem_v to_o they_o as_o nothing_o and_o that_o which_o be_v nothing_o shall_v seem_v to_o they_o as_o good_a as_o all_o that_o god_n shall_v set_v mankind_n in_o such_o a_o race_n where_o heaven_n or_o hell_n be_v their_o certain_a end_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v sit_v down_o and_o loiter_v or_o run_v after_o the_o childish_a toy_n of_o the_o world_n and_o so_o much_o forget_v the_o prize_n that_o they_o shall_v run_v for_o be_v it_o but_o possible_a for_o one_o of_o we_o to_o see_v the_o whole_a of_o this_o business_n as_o the_o whither_o they_o be_v go_v or_o what_o be_v before_o they_o in_o another_o world_n than_o they_o have_v be_v excusable_a but_o he_o have_v tell_v they_o over_o and_o over_o till_o they_o be_v weary_a of_o it_o have_v he_o leave_v it_o doubtful_a there_o have_v be_v some_o excuse_n but_o it_o be_v his_o seal_a word_n and_o they_o profess_v to_o believe_v it_o and_o will_v take_v it_o ill_o of_o we_o if_o we_o shall_v question_v whether_o they_o do_v believe_v it_o or_o not_o belove_a i_o come_v not_o to_o accuse_v any_o of_o you_o particular_o of_o this_o crime_n but_o see_v it_o be_v the_o with_o such_o direction_n as_o may_v help_v they_o that_o be_v willing_a to_o escape_v the_o destroy_a power_n of_o this_o sin_n and_o
3_o the_o party_n confession_n 4._o witness_n 5._o instrument_n and_o visible_a effect_n of_o the_o action_n all_o these_o evidence_n will_v be_v at_o hand_n and_o any_o one_o of_o they_o sufficient_a for_o the_o conviction_n of_o the_o guilty_a person_n at_o that_o day_n 1._o as_o the_o sin_n of_o all_o man_n so_o the_o impenitency_n and_o rebellion_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v notorious_a or_o at_o least_o will_v be_v then_o for_o though_o some_o play_v the_o hypocrite_n and_o hide_v the_o matter_n from_o the_o world_n and_o themselves_o yet_o god_n shall_v open_v their_o heart_n and_o former_a life_n to_o themselves_o and_o to_o the_o view_n of_o all_o the_o world_n he_o shall_v set_v their_o sin_n in_o order_n before_o they_o so_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v utter_o in_o vain_a to_o deny_v or_o excuse_v they_o if_o any_o man_n will_v then_o think_v to_o make_v their_o cause_n as_o good_a to_o god_n as_o they_o can_v now_o do_v to_o we_o that_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v their_o heart_n they_o will_v be_v foul_o mistake_v now_o they_o can_v say_v they_o have_v as_o good_a heart_n as_o the_o best_a then_o god_n will_v bring_v they_o out_o in_o the_o light_n and_o show_v they_o to_o themselves_o and_o all_o the_o world_n whether_o they_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a now_o they_o will_v face_v we_o down_o that_o they_o do_v true_o repent_v and_o they_o obey_v god_n as_o well_o as_o they_o can_v but_o god_n that_o know_v the_o deceiver_n will_v then_o undeceive_v they_o we_o can_v now_o make_v man_n acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o unsanctified_a heart_n nor_o convince_v they_o that_o have_v not_o true_a faith_n repentance_n or_o obedience_n but_o god_n will_v convince_v they_o of_o it_o they_o can_v find_v shift_n and_o false_a answer_n to_o put_v off_o a_o minister_n with_o but_o god_n will_v not_o so_o be_v shift_v off_o let_v we_o preach_v as_o plain_o to_o they_o as_o we_o can_v and_o do_v all_o that_o ever_o we_o be_v able_a to_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o impenitency_n and_o unholiness_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o the_o necessity_n of_o a_o new_a heart_n and_o life_n yet_o we_o can_v do_v it_o but_o they_o will_v believe_v whether_o we_o will_v or_o not_o that_o the_o old_a heart_n will_v serve_v the_o turn_n but_o how_o easy_o will_v god_n make_v they_o know_v the_o contrary_a we_o plead_v with_o they_o in_o the_o dark_a for_o though_o we_o have_v the_o candle_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o our_o hand_n when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v they_o their_o corruption_n yet_o they_o shut_v their_o eye_n and_o be_v wilful_o blind_a but_o god_n will_v open_v their_o eye_n whether_o they_o will_v or_o not_o not_o by_o holy_a illumination_n but_o by_o force_a conviction_n and_o then_o he_o will_v plead_v with_o they_o as_o in_o the_o open_a light_n see_v here_o thy_o own_o unholy_a soul_n can_v thou_o now_o say_v thou_o do_v love_v i_o above_o all_o can_v thou_o deny_v but_o thou_o do_v love_v this_o world_n before_o i_o and_o serve_v thy_o flesh_n and_o lust_n though_o i_o tell_v thou_o if_o thou_o â—idst_v so_o thou_o shall_v die_v look_v upon_o thy_o own_o heart_n now_o and_o see_v whether_o it_o be_v a_o holy_a or_o a_o unholy_a heart_n a_o spiritual_a or_o a_o fleshly_a heart_n a_o heavenly_a or_o a_o earthly_a heart_n look_v now_o upon_o all_o the_o course_n of_o thy_o life_n and_o see_v whether_o thou_o do_v live_v to_o i_o or_o to_o the_o world_n and_o thy_o flesh_n o_o how_o easy_o will_v god_n convince_v man_n then_o of_o the_o very_a sin_n of_o their_o thought_n and_o in_o their_o secret_a closet_n when_o they_o think_v that_o no_o witness_n can_v have_v disclose_v they_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o book_n shall_v be_v open_v and_o the_o dead_a judge_v out_o of_o the_o book_n rev._n 20._o 12._o now_o sin_v wilful_o before_o their_o judge_n that_o know_v every_o day_n that_o their_o judge_n be_v look_v on_o they_o while_o they_o forget_v he_o and_o give_v up_o themselves_o to_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o go_v on_o even_o under_o his_o eye_n as_o if_o to_o his_o face_n they_o dare_v he_o to_o punish_v they_o 3._o the_o three_o evidence_n will_v be_v the_o sinner_n confession_n god_n will_v force_v their_o own_o conscience_n to_o witness_v against_o they_o and_o their_o own_o tongue_n to_o confess_v the_o accusation_n if_o they_o do_v at_o first_o excuse_v it_o he_o will_v leave_v they_o speechless_a yea_o and_o condemn_v themselves_o before_o they_o have_v do_v o_o what_o a_o difference_n between_o their_o language_n now_o and_o then_o now_o we_o can_v tell_v they_o of_o their_o sin_n and_o misery_n but_o they_o either_o tell_v we_o of_o our_o own_o fault_n or_o bid_v we_o look_v to_o ourselves_o or_o deny_v or_o excuse_v their_o fault_n or_o make_v light_n of_o it_o but_o then_o their_o own_o tongue_n shall_v confess_v they_o and_o cry_v out_o of_o the_o wilful_a folly_n that_o they_o commit_v and_o lay_v a_o heavy_a charge_n upon_o they_o than_o we_o can_v now_o do_v now_o if_o we_o tell_v they_o that_o we_o be_v afraid_a they_o be_v unregenerate_a and_o lest_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o true_o set_v upon_o god_n they_o will_v tell_v we_o they_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v with_o such_o heart_n as_o they_o have_v but_o tâ—en_o o_o how_o they_o will_v confess_v the_o folly_n and_o falseness_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n you_o may_v see_v a_o little_a of_o their_o they_o set_v not_o their_o heart_n upon_o he_o we_o show_v they_o their_o sin_n and_o they_o be_v not_o humble_v we_o tell_v they_o of_o the_o danger_n of_o a_o unregenerate_a state_n and_o they_o do_v not_o regard_v we_o we_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o holiness_n but_o they_o make_v light_a of_o all_o we_o let_v they_o know_v the_o deceitfulness_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o the_o need_n of_o a_o close_a and_o faithful_a examination_n but_o they_o will_v not_o bestow_v a_o hour_n in_o such_o a_o work_n nor_o scarce_o once_o be_v afraid_a of_o be_v mistake_v and_o miscarry_v we_o let_v they_o know_v the_o vanity_n of_o this_o world_n and_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o forsake_v it_o no_o not_o for_o christ_n and_o the_o hope_n of_o glory_n we_o tell_v they_o of_o the_o everlasting_a felicity_n they_o may_v attain_v but_o they_o will_v not_o set_v themselves_o to_o seek_v it_o what_o we_o shall_v think_v of_o it_o then_o the_o lord_n know_v but_o sure_o it_o seem_v now_o to_o we_o a_o matter_n of_o very_o sad_a consideration_n that_o we_o must_v be_v bring_v in_o as_o witness_n against_o the_o soul_n of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o friend_n in_o the_o flesh_n those_o who_o we_o now_o unfeigned_o love_v and_o will_v do_v any_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v for_o their_o good_a who_o welfare_n be_v dear_a to_o we_o than_o all_o worldly_a enjoyment_n alas_o that_o we_o must_v be_v force_v to_o testify_v to_o their_o face_n for_o
sin_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n but_o by_o christ_n to_o obtain_v deliverance_n but_o because_o all_o this_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v by_o the_o righteous_a themselves_o as_o well_o as_o by_o the_o wicked_a therefore_o christ_n do_v not_o mention_v this_o but_o that_o only_a which_o be_v the_o turn_a point_n or_o cause_n in_o the_o judgement_n for_o it_o be_v not_o all_o sinner_n that_o shall_v be_v final_o condemn_v but_o all_o impenitent_a unbelieving_a sinner_n who_o have_v rebel_v final_o against_o their_o redeemer_n 2._o and_o the_o reason_n why_o faith_n itself_o be_v not_o express_v be_v 1._o because_o it_o be_v clear_o imply_v and_o so_o be_v love_n to_o christ_n as_o redeemer_n in_o that_o they_o shall_v have_v relieve_v christ_n himself_o in_o his_o member_n that_o be_v as_o it_o be_v express_v mat._n 10._o 42._o they_o shall_v have_v receive_v a_o prophet_n in_o the_o name_n of_o a_o prophet_n and_o a_o disciple_n in_o the_o name_n of_o a_o disciple_n all_o shall_v be_v do_v for_o christ_n sake_n which_o can_v not_o be_v unless_o they_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o love_v he_o 2._o also_o because_o that_o the_o bare_a act_n of_o believe_v be_v not_o some_o of_o they_o poor_a themselves_o but_o all_o have_v that_o love_n and_o self-denial_n which_o will_v some_o way_n express_v itself_o and_o all_o have_v heart_n and_o a_o disposition_n to_o do_v thus_o if_o they_o have_v ability_n without_o such_o a_o disposition_n none_o can_v be_v save_v it_o be_v the_o fond_a conceit_n of_o some_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o love_n to_o the_o godly_a or_o wish_v they_o well_o it_o be_v enough_o to_o prove_v they_o happy_a but_o christ_n here_o purposely_o let_v we_o know_v that_o whoever_o do_v not_o love_v he_o at_o so_o high_a a_o rate_n as_o that_o he_o can_v part_v with_o his_o substance_n or_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o those_o use_v which_o he_o shall_v require_v they_o even_o to_o relieve_v his_o servant_n in_o want_n and_o of_o work_n do_v never_o threaten_v to_o the_o first_o man_n or_o to_o any_o as_o it_o stand_v alone_o also_o the_o loss_n of_o glory_n as_o recover_v be_v the_o proper_a penalty_n of_o the_o his_o blood_n as_o all_o these_o be_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o redeemer_n law_n and_o judgement_n so_o be_v it_o a_o sore_a penalty_n than_o conscience_n will_v have_v inflict_v mere_o for_o not_o
