be_v the_o occasion_n of_o since_o man_n fall_n into_o sin_n in_o good_a and_o bad_a for_o as_o much_o as_o we_o be_v tempt_v to_o most_o of_o our_o disorder_n by_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o to_o gratify_v some_o sense_n or_o other_o disorderly_a or_o beside_o the_o direction_n and_o will_n of_o god_n seem_v to_o be_v the_o first_o and_o most_o constant_a temptation_n every_o man_n be_v himself_o nor_o need_v he_o or_o value_v he_o can_v he_o have_v they_o any_o little_a pleasure_n in_o creature_n when_o he_o be_v at_o god_n the_o fountain_n and_o cause_n of_o all_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o evil_a man_n also_o lose_v all_o those_o gratification_n of_o sense_n he_o so_o much_o affect_v and_o er_o count_v his_o chief_a good_a and_o must_v needs_o find_v that_o he_o foolish_o set_v his_o heart_n on_o that_o which_o will_v not_o make_v he_o happy_a but_o so_o soon_o leave_v he_o and_o as_o his_o will_n be_v not_o reconcile_v and_o subject_v to_o god_n but_o he_o desire_v still_o that_o which_o can_v be_v god_n can_v so_o communicate_v himself_o to_o he_o to_o make_v he_o joyous_a but_o he_o must_v be_v subject_a to_o all_o that_o anguish_n that_o the_o reflection_n on_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o creature_n he_o so_o much_o delight_v in_o and_o that_o he_o have_v miss_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o good_a can_v cause_v in_o he_o with_o all_o the_o vexation_n and_o trouble_v that_o all_o the_o disorderly_a thought_n of_o such_o a_o soul_n can_v raise_v to_o itself_o but_o to_o come_v to_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n again_o it_o can_v well_o be_v think_v that_o the_o soul_n or_o mind_n of_o either_o good_a or_o bad_a shall_v die_v or_o think_v whole_o and_o for_o ever_o cease_v or_o yet_o for_o a_o time_n upon_o the_o body_n death_n because_o the_o continuation_n of_o think_v or_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n can_v rational_o be_v suppose_v to_o depend_v on_o the_o body_n a_o thing_n more_o ignoble_a than_o itself_o be_v very_o unlikely_a to_o be_v its_o cause_n but_o upon_o the_o will_n of_o god_n its_o author_n and_o god_n can_v well_o be_v suppose_v thus_o to_o let_v any_o of_o his_o creature_n cease_v or_o disow_v his_o work_n that_o be_v good_a as_o the_o being_n of_o all_o thing_n be_v much_o less_o can_v mind_n the_o intelligent_a and_o active_a being_n be_v think_v to_o be_v adnihilate_v or_o cease_v think_v so_o soon_o and_o to_o no_o purpose_n change_v they_o may_v and_o do_v as_o all_o creature_n be_v mutable_a but_o what_o of_o god_n will_v be_v see_v in_o the_o cessation_n of_o any_o especial_o of_o mind_n who_o be_v of_o the_o righteous_a shall_v be_v upon_o he_o and_o the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v upon_o he_o one_o shall_v not_o bear_v another_o wickedness_n as_o we_o read_v at_o large_a ezek._n 18._o nor_o be_v it_o strange_a that_o any_o who_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n great_a than_o they_o can_v conceive_v or_o desire_v shall_v esteem_v god_n the_o author_n in_o itself_o or_o by_o its_o own_o will_n as_o its_o own_o oppose_v to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n god_n can_v make_v it_o no_o more_o than_o a_o creature_n and_o so_o the_o creature_n must_v needs_o be_v satisfy_v by_o its_o creator_n but_o if_o the_o creature_n turn_v from_o god_n and_o set_v up_o a_o will_n against_o he_o he_o must_v needs_o want_v satisfaction_n when_o through_o creature-impotence_n he_o can_v have_v his_o will_n god_n will_v not_o concur_v with_o he_o and_o when_o through_o creature-fol_o he_o have_v will_v what_o be_v not_o best_o for_o he_o and_o find_v it_o so_o so_o that_o if_o the_o creature_n want_v any_o pleasure_n or_o good_a it_o be_v because_o he_o have_v turn_v from_o it_o or_o leave_v it_o or_o at_o least_o have_v some_o other_o sinner_n hinder_v it_o or_o take_v it_o from_o he_o by_o their_o sin_n for_o even_o the_o innocent_a as_o christ_n be_v be_v creature_n may_v suffer_v by_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o but_o the_o presence_n of_o this_o evil_a of_o displeasure_n may_v far_o be_v consider_v under_o two_o head_n one_a displeasure_n mere_o mental_a 2_o displeasure_n or_o pain_n by_o the_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n both_o of_o they_o in_o their_o centre_n be_v nothing_o but_o discontent_a or_o uneasy_a thought_n a_o consideration_n or_o apprehension_n of_o something_o against_o one_o will._n now_o as_o to_o the_o first_o if_o i_o desire_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o order_n of_o the_o creation_n unfit_a to_o be_v and_o can_v have_v it_o and_o therefore_o be_o foolish_o discontent_a angry_a fret_v rage_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v not_o god_n that_o make_v i_o do_v so_o no_o the_o disorderly_a desire_n be_v a_o sin_n something_o against_o god_n will_n therefore_o god_n dont_fw-fr will_n it_o to_z will_v something_o against_o god_n will_n be_v a_o sin_n and_o to_o be_v angry_a and_o fret_v and_o rage_n because_o we_o can_v have_v our_o disorderly_a will_n be_v a_o far_a aggravation_n of_o the_o sin_n a_o strong_a will_n against_o god_n will_n therefore_o god_n can_v cause_v or_o will_v it_o that_o be_v to_o cause_v sin_n so_o that_o god_n can_v be_v suppose_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o mental_a unhappiness_n or_o displeasure_n god_n have_v give_v man_n a_o very_a large_a desire_n but_o for_o what_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v cross_v because_o he_o be_v but_o a_o creature_n and_o can_v be_v god_n no_o but_o that_o it_o may_v be_v satisfy_v in_o the_o way_n it_o possible_o can_v viz._n by_o its_o maker_n in_o the_o compliance_n with_o his_o will_n in_o the_o excellent_a order_n of_o the_o creation_n that_o man_n willing_a what_o god_n will_v viz._n that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o so_o to_o be_v doneby_o god_n power_n may_v be_v very_o happy_a but_o as_o to_o those_o uneasy_a thought_n we_o have_v or_o may_v have_v by_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n which_o go_v under_o the_o name_n of_o pain_n and_o disease_n there_o seem_v more_o difficulty_n to_o excuse_v god_n hand_n from_o be_v the_o giver_n but_o i_o think_v if_o we_o consider_v it_o may_v soon_o appear_v that_o god_n be_v no_o more_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o the_o condition_n or_o the_o actual_a existence_n of_o this_o misery_n than_o of_o that_o discontent_n sinner_n have_v when_o they_o have_v not_o their_o foolish_a will_n in_o other_o thing_n the_o connection_n of_o the_o body_n with_o the_o mind_n without_o which_o such_o sensation_n be_v not_o probable_o think_v to_o be_v in_o the_o mind_n be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v to_o god_n as_o the_o cause_n the_o manner_n of_o this_o union_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v use_v the_o mind_n desire_v to_o use_v the_o body_n act_n upon_o it_o by_z and_o with_o it_o and_o receive_v divers_a idea_n or_o thought_n of_o body_n by_o occasion_n of_o it_o god_n will_n be_v indeed_o the_o bond_n of_o this_o union_n he_o will_v that_o the_o mind_n shall_v desire_v to_o use_v its_o body_n give_v the_o mind_n power_n to_o move_v it_o and_o to_o do_v divers_a thing_n in_o bodily_a nature_n by_o it_o and_o cause_n that_o when_o such_o and_o such_o condition_n be_v in_o the_o body_n the_o mind_n shall_v have_v such_o and_o such_o idea_n or_o thought_n please_v or_o displease_v but_o as_o i_o say_v before_o of_o sin_n god_n make_v man_n capable_a of_o sin_n not_o that_o he_o may_v sin_v so_o god_n make_v man_n capable_a of_o displease_v thought_n by_o mean_n of_o the_o body_n not_o that_o he_o may_v have_v they_o as_o the_o end_n of_o the_o capacity_n but_o that_o he_o may_v as_o much_o as_o possible_a avoid_v the_o least_o thing_n that_o tend_v to_o the_o spoil_n or_o disorder_v of_o the_o body_n with_o which_o he_o be_v to_o act_v a_o part_n for_o a_o time_n when_o there_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o pain_n or_o disease_n god_n in_o his_o general_a law_n in_o nature_n will_v pain_n or_o discontent_a thought_n shall_v follow_v and_o so_o this_o discontent_n in_o itself_o be_v not_o sinful_a but_o god_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o application_n of_o the_o condition_n but_o the_o sinner_n himself_o or_o some_o other_o sinner_n for_o he_o when_o there_o be_v such_o and_o such_o a_o body_n abuse_v and_o undue_o apply_v to_o man_n body_n the_o mind_n present_o be_v uneasy_a as_o at_o the_o approach_n of_o some_o enemy_n but_o this_o uneasiness_n be_v not_o the_o end_n god_n cause_v in_o man_n such_o a_o sensibility_n but_o that_o man_n may_v be_v the_o more_o affect_v with_o the_o please_a sensation_n he_o have_v make_v he_o capable_a of_o by_o avoid_v at_o the_o first_o touch_v all_o thing_n that_o tend_v to_o remove_v the_o condition_n of_o pleasure_n that_o he_o may_v soon_o be_v warn_v so_o than_o he_o can_v by_o consideration_n god_n make_v man_n exquisite_o sensible_a that_o he_o may_v be_v capable_a of_o pleasure_n even_o by_o have_v a_o body_n and_o not_o be_v as_o it_o be_v imprison_v against_o his_o will_n and_o whenever_o the_o condition_n of_o pleasure_n be_v present_a god_n fail_v not_o to_o cause_v that_o sensation_n though_o under_o circumstance_n where_o the_o creature_n act_n against_o his_o will_n so_o on_o the_o contrary_n but_o man_n have_v a_o power_n give_v he_o to_o use_v or_o abuse_v thing_n and_o it_o be_v one_o part_n of_o his_o business_n in_o this_o world_n to_o do_v all_o those_o thing_n that_o tend_v to_o keep_v his_o body_n most_o in_o health_n and_o ease_n that_o he_o may_v be_v the_o more_o capable_a of_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o his_o work_n which_o do_v not_o relate_v only_o to_o this_o life_n but_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v viz._n the_o rectife_v his_o thought_n in_o order_n to_o his_o great_a and_o last_a happiness_n but_o to_o bring_v the_o matter_n near_o the_o eye_n if_o possible_a take_v this_o instance_n fire_n tend_v to_o
inspire_v the_o evil_a agent_n with_o malicious_a desire_n of_o murder_n robbery_n rape_n etc._n etc._n god_n may_v indeed_o be_v think_v to_o permit_v yea_o commissionate_a a_o people_n to_o stand_v up_o against_o another_o in_o just_a defence_n and_o to_o cut_v off_o the_o declare_v and_o dangerous_a enemy_n of_o mankind_n but_o such_o wicked_a person_n have_v bring_v other_o under_o a_o necessity_n of_o preserve_v themselves_o and_o they_o that_o be_v better_o than_o these_o wicked_a one_o or_o of_o deliver_v the_o unhappy_a that_o be_v in_o their_o hand_n god_n may_v likewise_o leave_v person_n obnoxious_a to_o be_v surprise_v by_o the_o element_n as_o by_o thunder_n and_o lightning_n earthquake_n inundation_n thing_n not_o evil_a in_o themselves_o fall_v of_o house_n infectious_a disease_n casual_a fire_n by_o which_o wicked_a man_n may_v suffer_v yea_o the_o good_a be_v translate_v from_o this_o wretched_a life_n without_o any_o special_a act_n of_o god_n but_o all_o these_o thing_n or_o i_o think_v whatever_o you_o can_v name_v of_o evil_n will_v be_v absent_a be_v man_n but_o as_o wise_a and_o good_a as_o they_o ought_v wisdom_n will_v foresee_v and_o prevent_v and_o goodness_n do_v no_o ill_a the_o wise_a and_o good_a will_v not_o expose_v themselves_o or_o other_o to_o the_o too_o strong_a motion_n of_o bodily_a nature_n nor_o want_v god_n special_a preservation_n which_o the_o rebellious_a have_v forfeit_v be_v but_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n absent_a from_o the_o world_n i_o do_v not_o see_v that_o there_o will_v be_v any_o other_o evil_a for_o which_o mankind_n can_v be_v think_v unhappy_a or_o can_v be_v unthankful_a for_o their_o be_v though_o all_o thing_n else_o be_v just_a as_o they_o be_v yea_o be_v man_n to_o lead_v his_o life_n on_o this_o earth_n for_o ever_o have_v i_o but_o this_o one_o point_n to_o handle_v i_o think_v i_o can_v easy_o show_v how_o be_v there_o not_o sin_n all_o the_o defect_n in_o nature_n will_v be_v remedy_v to_o conclude_v god_n have_v make_v all_o thing_n in_o a_o excellent_a order_n such_o as_o be_v most_o conducive_a to_o man_n happiness_n but_o if_o man_n foolish_o affect_v to_o be_v his_o own_o rule_n and_o strive_v to_o cross_v the_o most_o wise_a order_n of_o his_o maker_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o those_o thing_n god_n make_v for_o his_o good_a and_o service_n be_v often_o the_o occasion_n of_o his_o hurt_a and_o too_o hard_o for_o he_o god_n continue_v the_o nature_n and_o quality_n of_o thing_n and_o it_o be_v not_o fit_a he_o shall_v alter_v the_o creation_n at_o the_o foolish_a caprice_n of_o every_o silly_a man_n that_o fire_n may_v not_o burn_v and_o water_v not_o drown_v when_o sinner_n please_v to_o have_v they_o change_v but_o though_o fire_n burn_v and_o water_n drown_v he_o that_o foolish_o abuse_v they_o yet_o those_o noxious_a effect_n can_v proper_o be_v look_v on_o as_o punishment_n inflict_v by_o god_n any_o more_o than_o he_o that_o hang_v himself_o can_v be_v say_v to_o die_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o executioner_n and_o if_o god_n can_v be_v say_v to_o give_v good_a to_o his_o creature_n as_o oblige_v so_o to_o do_v but_o still_o give_v of_o grace_n how_o can_v he_o be_v think_v to_o be_v so_o bind_v to_o give_v evil_a as_o that_o he_o can_v be_v say_v mere_o to_o permit_v the_o creature_n to_o make_v itself_o miserable_a 45._o another_o opinion_n that_o have_v pass_v long_o with_o credit_n in_o the_o world_n without_o any_o good_a ground_n be_v the_o doctrine_n of_o imputation_n of_o sin_n and_o righteousness_n adam_n sin_n say_v some_o be_v impute_v to_o his_o offspring_n and_o so_o they_o become_v guilty_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o be_v deprive_v of_o original_a righteousness_n let_v we_o consider_v the_o plain_a english_a of_o it_o and_o it_o be_v this_o god_n reckon_v adam_n child_n guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n they_o do_v mean_v the_o same_o sin_n in_o kind_n but_o that_o do_v of_o another_o man_n common_o say_v we_o sin_v in_o adam_n but_o it_o be_v absurd_a to_o say_v a_o man_n sin_v before_o he_o have_v a_o be_v that_o which_o be_v not_o can_v have_v nothing_o say_v of_o it_o nor_o can_v it_o do_v till_o it_o be_v we_o be_v indeed_o potential_o in_o adam_n but_o not_o actual_o and_o where_o there_o be_v no_o actual_a be_v there_o can_v be_v no_o action_n to_o be_v guilty_a of_o god_n himself_o tell_v we_o by_o a_o prophet_n the_o father_n shall_v not_o bear_v the_o iniquity_n of_o the_o son_n nor_o the_o son_n the_o iniquity_n of_o the_o father_n but_o the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v upon_o he_o and_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o righteous_a shall_v be_v upon_o he_o and_o the_o contrary_n will_v be_v unjust_a one_o man_n be_v a_o intelligent_a be_v and_o a_o lord_n over_o the_o inferior_a creature_n and_o if_o adam_n have_v not_o beget_v a_o intelligent_a or_o think_v son_n he_o have_v not_o indeed_o beget_v a_o son_n in_o his_o own_o likeness_n it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o regenerate_v they_o be_v not_o beget_v of_o blood_n nor_o of_o the_o will_n of_o the_o flesh_n nor_o of_o the_o will_n of_o man_n which_o imply_v that_o a_o natural_a man_n be_v so_o beget_v as_o to_o his_o body_n of_o blood_n that_o supply_v matter_n to_o the_o seed_n and_o of_o the_o will_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v carnal_a desire_n instigate_a its_o projection_n but_o as_o to_o his_o soul_n of_o the_o will_n of_o man_n desire_v to_o get_v his_o like_a that_o the_o body_n of_o a_o man_n proceed_v from_o the_o body_n of_o his_o parent_n none_o doubt_v why_o may_v not_o the_o soul_n as_o well_o proceed_v from_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o father_n in_o the_o act_n of_o generation_n
or_o of_o the_o mother_n in_o conception_n it_o be_v by_o virtue_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n increase_n and_o multiply_v that_o there_o be_v any_o generation_n at_o all_o and_o why_o may_v not_o the_o same_o word_n give_v a_o power_n to_o the_o soul_n to_o beget_v a_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o body_n to_o beget_v a_o body_n the_o word_n be_v speak_v to_o man_n as_o a_o compound_v of_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o neither_o part_n be_v except_v isaac_n be_v a_o complete_a man_n consist_v of_o body_n and_o soul_n if_o abraham_n beget_v only_a isaac_n body_n he_o do_v not_o true_o beget_v isaac_n but_o you_o will_v say_v perhaps_o the_o body_n be_v divisible_a and_o part_n of_o it_o may_v be_v separate_v and_o become_v another_o body_n but_o the_o soul_n do_v not_o consist_v part_n of_o man_n by_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v as_o capable_a of_o beget_v a_o soul_n as_o the_o body_n the_o bulky_a and_o more_o ignoble_a be_v for_o the_o production_n of_o a_o body_n why_o must_v the_o soul_n be_v think_v capable_a of_o less_o in_o its_o kind_n than_o the_o body_n in_o its_o kind_n why_o may_v not_o cogitation_n break_v forth_o into_o new_a head_n of_o cogitation_n as_o well_o as_o body_n sprout_v out_o into_o new_a organical_a body_n though_o we_o may_v be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o precise_a manner_n of_o both_o but_o there_o be_v a_o second_o opinion_n which_o possible_o may_v be_v true_a whether_o the_o soul_n be_v propgate_v or_o no_o and_o that_o be_v that_o every_o son_n and_o daughter_n of_o adam_n be_v tempt_v and_o fall_v as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v capable_a of_o choose_v good_a or_o evil_a though_o not_o as_o their_o first_o father_n with_o a_o forbid_a apple_n yet_o with_o many_o other_o forbid_a thing_n though_o how_o soon_o or_o precise_o when_o they_o thus_o fall_v be_v uncertain_a that_o child_n be_v for_o some_o time_n innocent_a seem_v to_o some_o very_a probable_a not_o only_o because_o the_o scripture_n in_o divers_a place_n speak_v of_o they_o as_o not_o have_v do_v good_a or_o evil_a not_o know_v the_o right_a hand_n from_o the_o left_a not_o know_v to_o choose_v the_o good_a and_o refuse_v the_o evil_a not_o to_o have_v sin_v after_o the_o similitude_n of_o adam_n be_v transgression_n etc._n etc._n but_o because_o it_o be_v not_o reasonable_a that_o sin_n shall_v be_v reckon_v where_o there_o be_v no_o law_n
