the_o most_o part_n they_o talk_v impertinent_o when_o they_o speak_v of_o the_o other_o three_o but_o as_o the_o great_a and_o true_a comfort_n under_o affliction_n come_v from_o jesus_n christ_n so_o it_o be_v he_o only_o who_o can_v satisfy_v the_o large_a crave_n of_o the_o soul_n who_o can_v take_v away_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n and_o the_o gild_n of_o sin_n and_o as_o he_o can_v so_o he_o will_v for_o he_o have_v promise_v it_o here_o come_v and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n this_o rest_n must_v certain_o imply_v a_o full_a and_o perfect_a ease_n of_o all_o misery_n which_o lie_v upon_o man_n for_o if_o all_o be_v not_o take_v away_o if_o any_o part_n of_o it_o do_v remain_v the_o soul_n can_v not_o be_v at_o rest_n now_o because_o the_o very_a news_n of_o rest_n be_v move_v than_o those_o of_o man_n but_o if_o we_o view_v the_o object_n of_o their_o grief_n we_o will_v not_o think_v it_o strange_a that_o these_o woman_n do_v thus_o bewail_v and_o lament_v it_o be_v by_o his_o death_n that_o he_o advance_v and_o secure_v his_o kingdom_n his_o death_n be_v glorious_a and_o the_o issue_n of_o it_o be_v eternal_a praise_n to_o god_n and_o himself_o and_o everlasting_a advantage_n to_o all_o the_o world_n never_o any_o triumph_n be_v so_o illustrious_a as_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n the_o great_a triumph_n in_o the_o world_n be_v only_o over_o beast_n and_o weak_a man_n and_o set_v forth_o with_o the_o spoil_n of_o earthly_a kingdom_n but_o jesus_n at_o his_o death_n triumph_v over_o devil_n he_o conquer_a hell_n and_o the_o grave_a make_v spoil_n of_o principality_n and_o all_o the_o power_n of_o darkness_n by_o his_o death_n he_o quench_v the_o fire_n of_o god_n wrath_n blunt_v the_o edge_n of_o the_o law_n weaken_v the_o strength_n effect_n of_o our_o sin_n do_v it_o not_o trouble_v every_o honest_a and_o think_v man_n when_o he_o be_v so_o unfortunate_a as_o to_o be_v the_o occasion_n of_o any_o evil_a and_o mischief_n to_o another_o casual_a murder_n or_o manslaughter_n by_o a_o accidental_a rencounter_n the_o throw_v of_o a_o stone_n the_o shoot_v of_o a_o bow_n or_o gun_n or_o the_o like_a do_v not_o infer_v guilt_n the_o actor_n be_v innocent_a when_o they_o have_v no_o design_n of_o that_o nature_n in_o their_o head_n and_o yet_o no_o man_n who_o have_v not_o lose_v humanity_n but_o will_v be_v affect_v when_o any_o such_o misfortune_n fall_v in_o his_o hand_n and_o his_o grief_n will_v be_v so_o much_o the_o great_a as_o the_o person_n who_o death_n be_v occasion_v be_v worthy_a and_o deserve_a what_o etc._n by_o this_o intimate_v that_o the_o imprecation_n of_o the_o people_n be_v ready_a to_o light_v upon_o they_o for_o as_o they_o cry_v out_o and_o wish_v his_o blood_n be_v upon_o we_o and_o our_o child_n so_o to_o revenge_v it_o sore_a and_o heavy_a calamity_n be_v impend_v over_o the_o city_n and_o the_o whole_a nation_n jesus_n speak_v not_o these_o word_n from_o any_o spirit_n of_o thought_n of_o god_n revenge_v their_o quarrel_n but_o jesus_n be_v far_o from_o this_o temper_n for_o we_o find_v in_o the_o 19_o of_o this_o gospel_n that_o when_o he_o behold_v the_o city_n he_o weep_v over_o it_o out_o of_o compassion_n of_o those_o evil_n which_o he_o see_v will_v come_v upon_o it_o and_o they_o who_o have_v the_o same_o mind_n in_o they_o which_o be_v in_o he_o will_v that_o calamity_n he_o hold_v out_o by_o tell_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v then_o say_v bless_a be_v the_o barren_a and_o the_o womb_n that_o never_o bear_v and_o the_o pap_n which_o never_o give_v suck_v for_o these_o word_n be_v not_o to_o be_v take_v absolute_o but_o with_o a_o respect_n unto_o these_o evil_a day_n in_o time_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o day_n of_o prosperity_n it_o be_v a_o great_a blessing_n and_o comfort_n to_o have_v child_n and_o especial_o it_o be_v think_v so_o among_o the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n but_o in_o time_n of_o grievous_a trouble_n and_o sad_a calamity_n when_o war_n or_o famine_n or_o pestilence_n rage_v they_o who_o have_v child_n be_v more_o heavy_o afflict_v than_o those_o who_o want_v they_o for_o beside_o the_o evil_n which_o they_o suffer_v in_o their_o own_o person_n they_o suffer_v also_o in_o the_o person_n of_o their_o child_n and_o be_v affect_v with_o their_o misery_n moreover_o woman_n who_o be_v either_o with_o child_n or_o who_o have_v young_a one_o suck_v at_o their_o breast_n can_v so_o easy_o escape_v calamity_n or_o provide_v against_o they_o as_o other_o some_o also_o do_v think_v that_o this_o may_v have_v a_o particular_a reference_n to_o what_o afterward_o fall_v out_o at_o the_o destruction_n of_o jerusalem_n viz._n that_o during_o the_o strictness_n of_o the_o siege_n some_o be_v reduce_v to_o that_o strait_a that_o to_o preserve_v their_o own_o life_n they_o eat_v the_o flesh_n of_o their_o own_o child_n which_o can_v not_o but_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o parent_n however_o it_o be_v to_o be_v interpret_v not_o with_o any_o relation_n to_o people_n spiritual_a or_o eternal_a state_n for_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o have_v and_o want_v child_n but_o it_o be_v to_o be_v understand_v whole_o as_o to_o this_o life_n and_o that_o too_o only_o in_o relation_n to_o time_n of_o great_a trouble_n and_o sad_a calamity_n as_o to_o what_o follow_v that_o then_o they_o shall_v begin_v to_o say_v to_o the_o mountain_n fall_v on_o we_o and_o to_o the_o hill_n cover_v we_o this_o be_v a_o further_a intimation_n of_o the_o dreadful_a calamity_n of_o these_o day_n for_o people_n shall_v then_o be_v in_o such_o consternation_n and_o fear_n that_o they_o shall_v wish_v death_n rather_o than_o life_n and_o any_o kind_n of_o sudden_a death_n rather_o than_o to_o live_v to_o see_v and_o feel_v such_o unspeakable_a misery_n and_o as_o all_o this_o be_v foretell_v here_o and_o matth._n 24._o so_o whoever_o be_v please_v to_o read_v josephus_n his_o history_n will_v find_v that_o all_o be_v actual_o accomplish_v upon_o flavius_n vespasian_n and_o titus_n his_o son_n their_o invade_a judaea_n besiege_v and_o sack_n of_o jerusalem_n for_o if_o they_o do_v these_o thing_n in_o a_o green_a tree_n what_o shall_v be_v do_v in_o a_o dry_a as_o it_o be_v a_o proverbial_a speech_n so_o it_o be_v here_o use_v by_o our_o lord_n both_o for_o a_o proof_n of_o the_o prediction_n and_o also_o as_o a_o reason_n why_o such_o evil_n be_v inflict_v green_a wood_n be_v neither_o proper_a nor_o profitable_a fuel_n but_o sure_o if_o they_o be_v force_v to_o cut_v it_o down_o and_o make_v use_n of_o it_o they_o will_v not_o pass_v by_o what_o be_v dry_a and_o wither_a and_o good_a for_o nothing_o so_o see_v god_n have_v suffer_v his_o own_o son_n to_o be_v thus_o treat_v who_o never_o displease_v he_o they_o may_v assure_v themselves_o that_o such_o gross_a and_o notorious_a sinner_n will_v not_o escape_v as_o st._n peter_n say_v if_o the_o righteous_a scarce_o be_v save_v where_o shall_v the_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a appear_v our_o lord_n by_o compare_v himself_o here_o to_o a_o green_a flourish_a and_o without_o infirmity_n light_n without_o darkness_n laughter_n without_o mourn_v some_o have_v more_o than_o other_o but_o none_o be_v without_o some_o kind_n and_o degree_n of_o trouble_n neither_o the_o high_a nor_o low_a condition_n of_o life_n can_v secure_v one_o altogether_o a_o uninterrupted_a comfort_n and_o a_o perfect_a satisfaction_n of_o all_o thing_n relate_v to_o this_o life_n contentment_n or_o solid_a satisfaction_n but_o after_o much_o travel_n and_o frequent_a experiment_n the_o soul_n still_o return_v unsatisfied_a she_o only_o weary_v herself_o with_o lie_n as_o the_o
