the_o one_o be_v that_o notwithstanding_o grace_n be_v imperfect_a in_o this_o life_n there_o be_v no_o man_n may_v sin_v for_o all_o that_o in_o any_o the_o least_o thing_n whatsoever_o that_o be_v though_o our_o holiness_n be_v imperfect_a yet_o be_v it_o our_o duty_n to_o be_v perfect_a and_o we_o be_v still_o to_o be_v press_v to_o go_v on_o to_o perfection_n the_o other_o be_v that_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n will_v not_o stand_v with_o any_o sin_n in_o dominion_n that_o be_v that_o whosoever_o do_v willing_o and_o wilful_o live_v in_o any_o know_a sin_n without_o repentance_n unto_o perfection_n yea_o and_o that_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n will_v not_o stand_v with_o any_o sin_n in_o dominion_n what_o encouragement_n can_v they_o hereby_o minister_v for_o such_o duty_n and_o press_v on_o to_o perfection_n when_o they_o persuade_v people_n that_o what_o they_o preach_v and_o press_v they_o unto_o it_o not_o attainable_a as_o to_o tell_v they_o it_o be_v their_o duty_n to_o be_v perfect_a and_o not_o to_o sin_v at_o all_o but_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o attain_v that_o state_n grace_n be_v imperfect_a in_o this_o life_n etc._n etc._n christian_n this_o be_v not_o yea_o and_o amen_o if_o they_o be_v real_a and_o preach_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n they_o dare_v never_o put_v such_o faithless_a thought_n into_o the_o mind_n of_o people_n like_z as_o to_o put_v they_o upon_o a_o war_n without_o a_o enemy_n but_o first_o disarm_v they_o with_o such_o a_o unbelief_n or_o dispair_n of_o a_o conquest_n whereas_o if_o they_o faithful_o preach_v perfect_a obedience_n etc._n etc._n and_o believe_v what_o they_o preach_v they_o will_v sincere_o endeavour_v their_o eucouragement_n by_o exciting_a they_o to_o believe_v in_o and_o depend_v upon_o the_o grace_n and_o power_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n which_o be_v strong_a than_o the_o devil_n that_o they_o may_v experience_n that_o great_a be_v he_o that_o be_v in_o we_o than_o he_o that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o not_o tell_v they_o that_o grace_n and_o holiness_n be_v imperfect_a in_o this_o life_n and_o no_o man_n but_o that_o he_o sin_n so_o long_o as_o he_o live_v no_o not_o the_o best_a of_o god_n child_n yet_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n will_v not_o stand_v with_o any_o sin_n in_o dominiâ—â—_n why_o then_o must_v sin_n have_v any_o place_n of_o continuance_n shall_v god_n child_n by_o the_o grace_n either_o have_v dominion_n or_o power_n over_o sin_n and_o yet_o suffer_v sin_n always_o to_o have_v any_o be_v or_o prevalency_n in_o they_o can_v this_o either_o consist_v with_o a_o state_n to_o evidence_n they_o true_o to_o believe_v endeavour_n or_o expect_v such_o a_o universal_a obedience_n to_o all_o god_n requiring_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o rather_o many_o do_v spoil_n and_o mar_v their_o preach_a obedience_n by_o their_o preach_v up_o imperfection_n and_o sin_n term_n of_o life_n and_o such_o preach_v have_v more_o abound_v yea_o be_v too_o much_o uphold_v in_o this_o nation_n of_o late_a year_n in_o despite_n against_o the_o quaker_n and_o in_o contempt_n against_o the_o doctrine_n of_o perfection_n the_o presbyter_n priest_n and_o some_o other_o have_v fill_v the_o nation_n with_o their_o doctrine_n of_o the_o impossibility_n of_o perfection_n or_o a_o sinless_a state_n to_o render_v it_o not_o attainable_a wherein_o though_o they_o have_v do_v it_o the_o more_o eager_o to_o shame_n and_o odifie_v the_o quaker_n in_o the_o people_n â—yes_n their_o doctrine_n tend_v to_o debase_v many_o to_o hell_n have_v harden_v man_n in_o sin_n and_o strengthen_v the_o hand_n of_o evil_a doer_n and_o make_v many_o hypocrite_n for_o which_o they_o have_v a_o sad_a account_n to_o give_v in_o the_o great_a day_n of_o god_n almighty_n object_n will_v it_o not_o indeed_o suffice_v that_o a_o man_n be_v upright_n before_o god_n in_o his_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n after_o perfection_n that_o be_v 30._o the_o have_a respect_n to_o all_o his_o commandment_n unless_o he_o also_o be_v perfect_a and_o his_o work_n overtake_v his_o will_n what_o then_o shall_v become_v of_o the_o generà tion_n of_o the_o most_o just_a an._n one_a the_o desâ—â—â—_n and_o endeavour_n only_a of_o the_o upright_a man_n do_v not_o suffice_v 〈◊〉_d but_o his_o receive_v the_o answer_n or_o thing_n desire_v and_o endeaveâ—â—_n after_o 2_o dly_z do_v the_o â—â—ght_n man_n sincere_o desire_n and_o endeavour_v after_o such_o a_o perfeâ—â—n_n as_o that_o of_o universal_a obedience_n to_o all_o christ_n command_n and_o yet_o still_o his_o work_n fall_v short_a of_o his_o desire_n or_o not_o overtake_v his_o will_n how_o shall_v that_o be_v do_v not_o god_n hear_v the_o prayer_n and_o grant_v the_o request_n of_o the_o upright_a yea_o sure_a they_o shall_v not_o want_v for_o any_o good_a thing_n who_o walk_v in_o their_o uprightness_n and_o integrity_n before_o he_o i_o can_v yet_o apprehend_v that_o the_o great_a inconvenience_n which_o have_v be_v charge_v as_o the_o consequence_n of_o their_o doctrine_n who_o preach_v up_o the_o continuance_n of_o
sin_n and_o a_o fall_v short_a in_o duty_n be_v yet_o wipe_v off_o by_o all_o this_o man_n plead_v to_o excuse_n and_o salve_v the_o matter_n sect._n xvii_o and_o now_o whereas_o he_o pretend_v to_o discover_v several_a inconvenience_n that_o follow_v our_o doctrine_n and_o bid_v let_v we_o see_v whether_o they_o do_v not_o require_v more_o heed_n page_n 30._o let_v we_o then_o see_v and_o heed_n what_o inconvenience_n he_o suppose_v do_v follow_v our_o doctrine_n object_n first_o then_o where_o they_o say_v our_o doctrine_n do_v lead_v man_n into_o security_n remissness_n of_o life_n neglect_v of_o their_o duty_n a_o sinful_a course_n how_o must_v their_o doctrine_n hurl_v man_n into_o despair_n and_o lead_v they_o by_o that_o to_o the_o cast_v off_o the_o whole_a care_n of_o god_n and_o their_o own_o soul_n together_o pag._n 30._o an._n no_o such_o inconvenience_n do_v follow_v our_o doctrine_n as_o either_o the_o hurl_v man_n into_o despair_n or_o lead_v they_o to_o the_o cast_v off_o the_o care_n of_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n for_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n to_o despair_n of_o what_o be_v possible_a or_o attainable_a through_o divine_v assistance_n as_o be_v confess_v to_o live_v without_o sin_n or_o to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o so_o to_o enter_v into_o heaven_n be_v possible_a or_o attainable_a through_o the_o assistance_n of_o grace_n man_n may_v despair_v upon_o impossibility_n or_o the_o aprehension_n thereof_o but_o they_o have_v no_o cause_n on_o the_o contrary_a we_o both_o testify_v unto_o true_a faith_n and_o hope_n in_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o his_o name_n and_o power_n to_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o resist_v and_o overcome_v temptation_n as_o also_o we_o preach_v up_o god_n love_n and_o care_n over_o his_o child_n for_o their_o safety_n and_o preservation_n out_o of_o sin_n and_o evil_a and_o that_o even_o he_o who_o be_v the_o god_n of_o peace_n according_a to_o his_o care_n over_o his_o people_n do_v in_o his_o own_o due_a time_n tread_v satan_n under_o their_o foot_n by_o his_o great_a power_n which_o they_o believe_v in_o and_o partake_v of_o object_n if_o it_o will_v not_o serve_v a_o man_n for_o his_o acceptance_n with_o god_n that_o he_o be_v sincere_a in_o his_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n of_o walk_v before_o he_o unless_o he_o attain_v to_o perfection_n or_o to_o a_o life_n that_o â—s_v whole_o without_o sin_n in_o this_o world_n then_o must_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o most_o holy_a and_o mortify_a man_n upon_o earth_n be_v quite_o break_v and_o discourage_v for_o ever_o there_o be_v mercy_n with_o thou_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v fear_v say_v david_n page_n 30._o an._n sincere_a desire_n and_o endeavour_n of_o walk_v with_o the_o lord_n god_n be_v acceptable_a to_o he_o they_o be_v beget_v by_o his_o own_o spirit_n but_o it_o be_v a_o mistake_n that_o they_o fall_v short_a of_o attain_v to_o perfection_n or_o to_o a_o life_n without_o sin_n in_o this_o world_n who_o follow_v such_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n as_o also_o it_o be_v a_o gross_a mistake_n that_o the_o most_o holy_a and_o mortify_a man_n upon_o earth_n do_v either_o fall_n short_a of_o such_o perfection_n in_o this_o wordlâ—_n or_o that_o he_o must_v have_v his_o heart_n quite_o break_v or_o discourage_v forever_o on_o this_o account_n page_n 30._o beside_o thousand_o do_v experience_n the_o contrary_a that_o our_o doctrine_n of_o sinless_a perfection_n have_v no_o such_o tendence_n nor_o effect_n as_o this_o of_o despair_n unjust_o surmise_v to_o be_v the_o consequence_n thereof_o beside_o i_o suppose_v it_o be_v as_o hard_a a_o matter_n for_o this_o man_n to_o prove_v what_o sin_n or_o sin_n the_o most_o holy_a and_o mortify_v of_o god_n servant_n and_o people_n live_v in_o all_o their_o life_n time_n as_o to_o evince_v when_o where_o or_o how_o they_o come_v to_o be_v perfect_o cleanse_v or_o thorough_o purge_v after_o their_o decease_n for_o our_o part_n we_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o pope_n doctrine_n of_o a_o purgatory_n after_o death_n if_o god_n be_v not_o good_a and_o merciful_a to_o consider_v man_n frailty_n principle_n to_o pardon_v his_o shortness_n therein_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n obey_v the_o spirit_n unto_o mortification_n and_o sanctification_n etc._n etc._n for_o if_o you_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n then_o be_v you_o not_o under_o the_o law_n and_o we_o through_o the_o spirit_n have_v wait_v for_o the_o hope_n of_o righteousness_n by_o faith_n and_o through_o the_o spirit_n do_v still_o believe_v trust_v in_o christ_n for_o
