perilous_o omit_v whereby_o then_o rise_v all_o manner_n of_o slander_n to_o the_o weak_a and_o misreport_v unto_o the_o holy_a gospel_n i_o think_v it_o profitable_a and_o necessary_a to_o bestow_v upon_o your_o charity_n in_o this_o case_n a_o short_a instruction_n &_o comfort_n out_o of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n to_o the_o intent_n that_o the_o ignorant_a may_v be_v teach_v the_o weak_a strengthen_v and_o every_o one_o counsel_v after_o his_o call_n to_o serve_v his_o neighbour_n and_o i_o will_v take_v for_o my_o text_n the_o 91._o psalm_n which_o sound_v after_o this_o manner_n verse_n 1_o who_o so_o sit_v under_o the_o defence_n of_o the_o high_a and_o abide_v under_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o almighty_a 2_o he_o say_v unto_o the_o lord_n my_o hope_n and_o my_o strong_a hold_n my_o god_n in_o he_o will_v i_o trust_v 3_o for_o he_o deliver_v i_o from_o the_o snare_n of_o the_o hunter_n and_o from_o the_o noisome_a pestilence_n 4_o he_o shall_v cover_v thou_o with_o his_o feather_n &_o thy_o trust_n shall_v be_v under_o his_o wing_n his_o faithfulness_n and_o truth_n shall_v be_v thy_o shield_n and_o buckler_n 5_o so_o that_o thou_o need_v not_o to_o fear_v for_o the_o no_o one_o day_n 7_o though_o a_o thousand_o fall_n at_o thy_o side_n and_o ten_o thousand_o at_o thy_o right_a hand_n yet_o shall_v it_o not_o come_v nigh_o thou_o 8_o yea_o with_o thy_o eye_n shall_v thou_o see_v thy_o desire_n and_o behold_v how_o the_o ungodly_a shall_v be_v reward_v but_o afore_o we_o come_v to_o the_o understanding_n of_o these_o comfortable_a word_n your_o charity_n shall_v first_o know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o my_o meaning_n to_o forbid_v or_o inhibit_v any_o man_n to_o fly_v or_o to_o use_v physic_n or_o to_o avoid_v dangerous_a and_o sick_a place_n in_o these_o fearful_a air_n so_o far_o as_o a_o man_n do_v not_o therein_o against_o the_o belief_n nor_o god_n commandment_n nor_o against_o his_o call_n nor_o against_o the_o love_n of_o his_o neighbour_n for_o though_o some_o will_v say_v such_o plague_n touch_v no_o man_n but_o those_o that_o be_v ordain_v of_o god_n thereunto_o like_v as_o there_o be_v certain_a ensample_n thereof_o find_v in_o holy_a scripture_n namely_o as_o in_o ezech._n 9_o &_o apoc._n 7._o there_o be_v send_v a_o angel_n which_o aforehand_o mark_v the_o virtuous_a and_o elect_a or_o ever_o it_o be_v charge_v and_o command_v the_o second_o angel_n to_o smite_v with_o pestilence_n or_o other_o plague_n those_o that_o be_v not_o mark_v nevertheless_o against_o that_o it_o may_v be_v say_v good_a sir_n though_o it_o go_v so_o at_o such_o a_o time_n in_o such_o place_n who_o make_v we_o sure_o yet_o now_o that_o it_o shall_v therefore_o chance_v so_o in_o all_o other_o death_n of_o the_o country_n therefore_o i_o will_v now_o at_o this_o time_n let_v all_o such_o thing_n continue_v in_o their_o liberty_n at_o your_o discretion_n like_v as_o all_o other_o natural_a thing_n which_o be_v subject_a and_o commit_v unto_o our_o reason_n to_o rule_v but_o as_o for_o the_o christian_a which_o by_o reason_n of_o office_n or_o for_o poverty_n sake_n or_o for_o other_o reasonable_a cause_n can_v or_o be_v not_o mind_v to_o fly_v i_o will_v herewithal_o show_v they_o their_o best_a &_o high_a comfort_n that_o they_o have_v in_o like_a manner_n i_o will_v not_o enter_v against_o they_o that_o speak_v natural_o thereof_o and_o say_v such_o plague_n come_v out_o of_o the_o influence_n of_o the_o star_n out_o of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o comet_n out_o of_o the_o unseasonable_a weather_n and_o alter_n of_o the_o air_n out_o of_o the_o south_n wind_n out_o of_o stink_a water_n or_o out_o of_o foul_a mist_n of_o the_o ground_n for_o such_o wisdom_n of_o they_o will_v we_o leave_v unto_o they_o undespise_v and_o not_o fight_v thereagainst_a but_o as_o christian_a man_n we_o will_v hold_v we_o unto_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o same_o will_v we_o suffer_v to_o be_v our_o most_o high_a wisdom_n and_o give_v credence_n unto_o it_o and_o follow_v it_o and_o so_o shall_v we_o find_v much_o better_a &_o sure_a instruction_n namely_o that_o this_o horrible_a plague_n of_o the_o deut._n chap._n 28._o verse_n 1._o if_o thou_o will_v not_o hearken_v unto_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n to_o observe_v and_o keep_v all_o his_o commandment_n and_o ordinance_n which_o i_o command_v thou_o then_o shall_v all_o these_o curse_n come_v upon_o thou_o etc._n etc._n and_o it_o follow_v verse_n 21._o the_o lord_n shall_v cause_v the_o pestilence_n to_o endure_v long_o the_o foresay_a natural_a cause_n do_v somewhat_o agree_v also_o thereunto_o yet_o be_v it_o sure_a and_o undoubted_a that_o the_o same_o cause_n be_v send_v and_o stir_v up_o out_o of_o god_n wrath_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o unthankfulness_n and_o true_o that_o it_o be_v even_o so_o the_o holy_a scripture_n declare_v not_o with_o bare_a word_n only_o but_o show_v it_o also_o with_o notable_a ensample_n for_o in_o the_o fourtéenth_fw-mi chapter_n of_o the_o book_n of_o number_n when_o all_o the_o spy_n except_o josua_n and_o caleb_n speak_v evil_a of_o the_o land_n of_o promise_n and_o make_v the_o people_n unpatient_a &_o in_o a_o uproar_n so_o that_o they_o choose_v they_o a_o captain_n and_o think_v to_o go_v again_o into_o egypt_n and_o to_o stone_n moses_n and_o aaron_n which_o command_v they_o the_o contrary_a we_o read_v thus_o then_o appear_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o speak_v unto_o moses_n how_o long_o do_v this_o people_n blaspheme_v i_o and_o how_o long_o will_v it_o be_v you_z they_o believe_v i_o for_o all_o the_o token_n that_o i_o have_v do_v upon_o they_o therefore_o will_v i_o smite_v and_o destroy_v they_o with_o pestilence_n and_o make_v of_o thou_o a_o great_a nation_n than_o this_o likewise_o also_o when_o david_n cause_v the_o people_n to_o be_v number_v against_o god_n commandment_n he_o displease_v the_o lord_n god_n horrible_o be_v write_v in_o the_o last_o chapter_n of_o the_o second_o book_n of_o samuel_n see_v then_o that_o out_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n we_o know_v the_o very_a cause_n of_o this_o horrible_a plague_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o our_o sin_n as_o unbelief_n
the_o noon_n day_n for_o these_o four_o adversity_n set_v forward_o and_o shorten_v the_o life_n of_o the_o unbeléever_n but_o the_o faithful_a have_v such_o consolation_n and_o promise_n that_o he_o need_v not_o be_v afraid_a first_o for_o the_o horriblenesse_n of_o the_o night_n that_o be_v for_o all_o manner_n of_o temptation_n &_o deceit_n that_o happen_v unto_o man_n by_o night_n in_o the_o darkness_n for_o this_o we_o all_o perceive_v that_o in_o the_o night_n &_o in_o the_o darkness_n we_o be_v weak_a mind_v of_o more_o despair_n and_o more_o afraid_a then_o in_o the_o light_n the_o blood_n run_v to_o our_o heart_n and_o the_o hair_n stand_v upright_o and_o all_o the_o body_n wax_v cold_a for_o fear_n out_o of_o this_o come_v it_o then_o that_o wethinke_v we_o see_v hear_v and_o perceive_v somewhat_o which_o in_o very_a deed_n be_v not_o so_o then_o go_v one_o astray_o another_o leese_v his_o colour_n the_o third_o fall_v sick_a the_o four_o be_v become_v crooked_a the_o five_o go_v out_o of_o his_o wit_n and_o so_o man_n think_v that_o the_o devil_n have_v do_v it_o where_o as_o it_o be_v yet_o a_o plain_a natural_a work_v of_o the_o exceed_a great_a fear_n which_o will_v destroy_v a_o man_n even_o by_o day_n time_n if_o it_o be_v so_o great_a howbeit_a true_a it_o be_v that_o the_o devil_n cause_v such_o fear_n and_o print_v it_o in_o that_o he_o may_v beguile_v and_o destroy_v we_o by_o fear_n as_o by_o a_o natural_a work_n yet_o be_v it_o nothing_o but_o a_o fear_n for_o the_o prophet_n call_v it_o not_o a_o evil_a or_o good_a spirit_n but_o plain_o the_o horriblenes_n of_o the_o night_n neither_o be_v it_o any_o thing_n else_o but_o a_o horror_n and_o fear_n and_o continue_v a_o horror_n and_o and_o fear_n therefore_o where_o a_o right_a belief_n be_v there_o be_v no_o fear_n where_o no_o fearfulness_n be_v there_o be_v also_o no_o horror_n nor_o fantasy_n of_o spirit_n or_o deceitfulnes_n of_o the_o night_n but_o plain_a courage_n and_o boldness_n if_o any_o thing_n else_o be_v see_v as_o fire_n or_o light_n they_o be_v but_o natural_a thing_n out_o of_o the_o heat_n of_o the_o ground_n like_v as_o lightning_n dragon_n fall_v star_n and_o comet_n be_v in_o the_o air_n and_o in_o the_o heaven_n but_o herewithal_o will_v not_o i_o speak_v against_o the_o wonderful_a vision_n and_o token_n which_o god_n send_v for_o a_o warn_n before_o great_a mischance_n to_o come_v secondarliye_o the_o faithful_a be_v sure_a for_o the_o arrow_n that_o fly_v in_o the_o day_n time_n that_o be_v all_o manner_n of_o mischance_n which_o overtake_v a_o man_n open_o in_o the_o day_n and_o yet_o so_o sudden_o and_o unwares_o that_o he_o can_v not_o escape_v they_o as_o when_o a_o tile_n fall_v from_o the_o rooofe_n of_o a_o house_n when_o a_o wicked_a beast_n do_v evil_a or_o when_o a_o unngration_n person_n do_v hurt_v in_o body_n train_n or_o good_n for_o such_o misfortune_n come_v for_o the_o most_o part_n so_o sudden_o that_o a_o man_n can_v not_o prevent_v they_o but_o must_v let_v they_o hit_v as_o with_o a_o arrow_n and_o afterward_o restore_v and_o heal_v the_o harm_n with_o great_a travail_n and_o labour_n but_o now_o will_v god_n preserve_v his_o faithful_a from_o such_o misfortune_n if_o they_o have_v his_o promise_n before_o their_o eye_n believe_v thereon_o and_o order_v their_o life_n thereafter_o three_o a_o faithful_a person_n need_v not_o also_o to_o be_v afraid_a for_o the_o pestilence_n that_o flip_v in_o privily_o in_o the_o dark_a this_o be_v very_o a_o comfortable_a promise_n in_o this_o dangerous_a time_n for_o the_o which_o we_o shall_v by_o right_n put_v our_o trust_n in_o god_n and_o thank_v he_o therefore_o for_o asmuch_o as_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o most_o perilous_a and_o horrible_a plague_n wherewith_o he_o visit_v &_o punish_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n for_o it_o take_v hold_v of_o life_n unwares_o and_o pluck_v a_o man_n a_o way_n in_o two_o or_o three_o day_n or_o ever_o he_o can_v order_v his_o business_n and_o house_n and_o make_v his_o testament_n créepe_v in_o privy_o in_o the_o dark_a so_o that_o no_o man_n know_v what_o it_o be_v or_o whence_o it_o come_v or_o whether_o it_o go_v therefore_o can_v no_o man_n keep_v himself_o sure_o from_o it_o for_o if_o it_o be_v in_o meat_n or_o drink_v it_o may_v be_v eschew_v if_o it_o be_v a_o evil_a taste_n it_o may_v be_v expel_v with_o a_o sweet_a savour_n if_o it_o be_v a_o evil_a wind_n the_o chamber_n may_v with_o diligence_n be_v make_v close_o therefore_o if_o it_o be_v a_o cloud_n or_o mist_n it_o may_v be_v see_v and_o avoid_v if_o it_o be_v a_o rain_n a_o man_n may_v cover_v himself_o for_o it_o but_o now_o it_o be_v a_o secret_a misfortune_n that_o créepe_v in_o privy_o so_o be_v our_o spear_n and_o shield_n for_o if_o we_o so_o do_v then_o shall_v such_o poison_a arrow_n either_o not_o hit_v we_o at_o all_o or_o else_o not_o wound_v we_o to_o death_n four_o god_n will_v also_o preserve_v his_o child_n from_o the_o sickness_n that_o destroy_v in_o the_o noon_n day_n for_o the_o noon_n day_n when_o the_o sun_n be_v at_o the_o strong_a be_v cause_n of_o much_o heat_n and_o feverous_a sickness_n special_o in_o those_o country_n where_o the_o sun_n rise_v high_a and_o come_v nigh_o over_o man_n head_n for_o great_a heat_n bring_v much_o sweat_n consume_v and_o alter_v the_o blood_n cause_v inordinate_a drink_n and_o make_v that_o the_o people_n be_v glad_a to_o cool_v themselves_o again_o foolish_o and_o thereout_o arise_v all_o manner_n of_o perilous_a disease_n which_o be_v not_o very_a unlike_o the_o sickness_n of_o the_o pestilence_n now_o whether_o it_o be_v fear_n of_o the_o night_n or_o arrow_n of_o the_o day_n whether_o it_o be_v pestilence_n or_o sickness_n that_o come_v by_o the_o evil_a south-winde_n or_o what_o plague_n soever_o that_o lie_v upon_o the_o world_n because_o of_o their_o sin_n god_n the_o lord_n will_v preserve_v his_o faithful_a therfrom_n or_o delyver_v they_o from_o it_o and_o that_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v so_o certain_o and_o so_o wonderful_o that_o as_o the_o psalmist_n and_o our_o prophet_n say_v though_o a_o thousand_o fall_n at_o thy_o left_a side_n and_o ten_o thousand_o at_o thy_o right_a side_n yet_o shall_v it_o not_o touch_v thou_o this_o be_v doubtless_o a_o love_a merciful_a comfortable_a and_o fair_a promise_n whereon_o our_o hart_n by_o reason_n shall_v trust_v and_o chieslie_a rejoice_n in_o the_o same_o for_o he_o that_o speak_v it_o be_v only_o almighty_a and_o most_o true_a therefore_o we_o shall_v with_o reason_n give_v credence_n unto_o he_o for_o we_o can_v do_v god_n no_o great_a dishonour_n then_o to_o despair_v in_o his_o holy_a word_n we_o ought_v therefore_o to_o be_v much_o more_o afraid_a of_o that_o inordinate_a fear_n then_o of_o death_n itself_o for_o death_n can_v not_o hurt_v we_o in_o asmuch_o as_o we_o through_o baptism_n be_v graff_v and_o bury_v unto_o like_a death_n with_o christ_n but_o fearfulness_n which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o unbelief_n may_v harm_v we_o and_o bring_v we_o into_o imprudence_n wherefore_o my_o most_o dear_o belove_v take_v these_o promise_n to_o heart_n strengthen_v your_o heart_n mind_n and_o understand_v therewith_o and_o be_v not_o faint_a heart_a so_o shall_v you_o prove_v by_o experience_n that_o god_n be_v true_a and_o faithful_o perform_v that_o which_o he_o promise_v and_o that_o you_o may_v the_o more_o easy_o believe_v it_o i_o will_v declare_v it_o unto_o your_o charity_n by_o a_o similitude_n how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v &_o whence_o it_o spring_v that_o a_o right_n faithful_a christian_a man_n may_v be_v safe_a and_o free_a from_o all_o these_o plague_n for_o it_o be_v good_a to_o understande_v and_o comfortable_a to_o know_v your_o charity_n see_v and_o proove_v daily_o by_o experience_n how_o mighty_a &_o horrible_a a_o thing_n the_o darkness_n
it_o that_o pass_v away_o think_v it_o to_o be_v temporal_a fade_v at_o the_o twinkle_n of_o a_o eye_n and_o vanity_n that_o be_v in_o this_o world_n we_o have_v here_o no_o abide_v thing_n but_o must_v look_v about_o for_o the_o thing_n to_o come_v that_o endure_v for_o ever_o for_o this_o cause_n do_v god_n draw_v and_o pull_v we_o so_o from_o the_o creature_n and_o see_v he_o be_v our_o true_a father_n and_o bridegroom_n and_o husband_n he_o can_v not_o for_o he_o be_v strong_a and_o jealous_a abide_v that_o we_o set_v our_o hope_n love_n or_o trust_v upon_o any_o creature_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n then_o that_o he_o do_v take_v we_o from_o they_o and_o carry_v we_o upon_o himself_o for_o look_v on_o what_o creature_n we_o have_v most_o hope_n love_n and_o affection_n that_o will_v he_o soon_o take_v out_o of_o our_o sight_n if_o he_o do_v love_n us._n and_o when_o he_o have_v such_o jealousy_n upon_o we_o then_o do_v he_o most_o chief_o declare_v his_o love_n toward_o us._n by_o this_o also_o it_o come_v that_o christ_n math._n 18._o forbid_v we_o to_o call_v any_o man_n father_n upon_o earth_n for_o we_o have_v only_o one_o father_n in_o heaven_n namely_o god_n which_o will_v not_o nor_o can_v suffer_v we_o to_o call_v or_o to_o have_v any_o man_n upon_o earth_n father_n &_o that_o because_o we_o shall_v depend_v and_o hang_v only_o upon_o he_o look_v for_o all_o good_a of_o he_o for_o he_o will_v be_v the_o same_o that_o we_o may_v sure_o trust_v unto_o see_v he_o can_v nor_o will_v fail_v we_o and_o that_o because_o he_o be_v no_o earthly_a but_o a_o when_o nature_n fulfil_v her_o course_n man_n have_v but_o continual_a travail_n &_o misery_n &_o after_o that_o this_o course_n of_o nature_n be_v end_v and_o at_o rest_n man_n be_v ease_v of_o so_o great_a travail_n we_o seem_v to_o hate_v rather_o than_o to_o love_v they_o that_o be_v depart_v if_o we_o will_v wish_v they_o to_o be_v in_o this_o wretched_a world_n again_o moreover_o in_o make_v so_o much_o of_o our_o friend_n depart_v and_o set_v so_o great_a affection_n upon_o they_o wish_v god_n work_v not_o to_o be_v fulfil_v upon_o they_o we_o blame_v god_n in_o his_o will_n and_o work_n as_o though_o he_o know_v not_o better_o what_o be_v best_o both_o for_o they_o and_o we_o than_o we_o let_v we_o therefore_o set_v our_o will_n in_o god_n will_n and_o suffer_v he_o to_o work_v at_o be_v weak_a o_o lord_n heal_v we_o for_o our_o bone_n be_v vex_v and_o now_o in_o the_o vexation_n of_o our_o spirit_n and_o the_o anguish_n of_o our_o soul_n we_o remember_v thou_o and_o we_o cry_v unto_o thou_o hear_v lord_n and_o have_v mercy_n for_o thou_o own_o sake_n and_o for_o thy_o holy_a name_n sake_n in_o cline_v thy_o ear_n and_o hear_v o_o merciful_a lord_n for_o we_o do_v not_o pour_v out_o our_o prayer_n before_o thy_o face_n trust_v in_o our_o own_o righteousness_n but_o in_o thy_o great_a and_o manifold_a mercy_n wash_v we_o thorough_o from_o our_o wickedness_n and_o cleanse_v we_o from_o our_o sin_n turn_v thy_o face_n from_o our_o sin_n and_o put_v out_o all_o our_o misdéede_n make_v we_o clean_a heart_n o_o god_n and_o renew_v a_o right_a spirit_n within_o us._n help_v we_o o_o god_n of_o our_o salvation_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o thy_o name_n o_o deliver_v we_o and_o be_v merciful_a unto_o our_o sin_n for_o thy_o name_n sake_n so_o we_o that_o be_v thy_o people_n and_o sheep_n of_o thy_o pasture_n shall_v give_v thou_o thanks_n for_o ever_o and_o will_v always_o be_v show_v forth_o thy_o praise_n from_o generation_n to_o generation_n glory_n seem_v nothing_o but_o thy_o merciful_a and_o love_a call_n from_o these_o worldly_a misery_n into_o the_o fellowship_n of_o thy_o holy_a one_o who_o the_o more_o thou_o love_v the_o more_o they_o lord_n for_o that_o through_o our_o frailty_n we_o often_o doubt_v whether_o in_o extreme_a pain_n we_o may_v feel_v ourselves_o thy_o child_n or_o thou_o our_o angry_a judge_n whereby_o our_o faith_n be_v waver_v and_o sore_o displease_v unto_o thou_o we_o humble_o pray_v thou_o if_o it_o be_v thy_o holy_a will_n to_o mitigate_v his_o torment_n and_o make_v steadfast_a and_o perfect_a his_o faith_n that_o he_o may_v with_o the_o more_o quiet_a mind_n and_o assure_a confidence_n cry_v abba_n father_n in_o this_o life_n and_o after_o joyful_o to_o receive_v the_o crown_n which_o thou_o
