faith_n various_o according_a to_o the_o several_a kind_n or_o part_n of_o the_o word_n for_o you_o know_v there_o be_v divers_a part_n in_o the_o word_n as_o now_o there_o be_v a_o word_n of_o doctrine_n and_o a_o word_n of_o promise_n some_o be_v command_n and_o some_o be_v threaten_n now_o i_o say_v we_o shall_v act_v faith_n upon_o the_o word_n various_o according_a to_o the_o several_a part_n of_o it_o as_o now_o for_o example_n if_o so_o be_v that_o we_o meet_v with_o a_o word_n of_o doctrine_n as_o concern_v the_o creation_n of_o the_o world_n that_o be_v make_v out_o of_o nothing_o or_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a that_o every_o person_n shall_v be_v raise_v again_o or_o concern_v the_o trinity_n of_o person_n in_o the_o godhead_n or_o the_o union_n of_o two_o nature_n in_o one_o person_n or_o our_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n etc._n etc._n these_o thing_n be_v doctrinal_a now_o faith_n be_v to_o be_v act_v here_o namely_o by_o give_v our_o assent_n to_o the_o truth_n thereof_o by_o believe_v of_o it_o as_o faithful_a and_o true_a he_o that_o receive_v his_o testimony_n have_v set_v to_o his_o seal_n that_o god_n be_v true_a john_n 3.33_o and_o by_o faith_n we_o believe_v that_o the_o world_n be_v create_v out_o of_o nothing_o this_o be_v act_v of_o faith_n upon_o this_o part_n of_o the_o word_n by_o give_v our_o assent_n to_o it_o and_o believe_v of_o it_o to_o be_v true_a because_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v it_o possible_o we_o can_v understand_v it_o how_o there_o shall_v be_v three_o person_n in_o one_o essence_n and_o that_o the_o same_o body_n shall_v be_v raise_v again_o that_o be_v moulder_a into_o dust_n we_o can_v understand_v the_o reason_n of_o it_o but_o because_o god_n have_v speak_v it_o we_o shall_v believe_v it_o but_o then_o there_o be_v another_o part_n of_o the_o word_n that_o contain_v promise_n now_o how_o shall_v faith_n act_v upon_o the_o promise_n namely_o by_o lean_v and_o rest_v with_o expectation_n upon_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o be_v persuade_v that_o god_n can_v do_v it_o and_o that_o god_n will_v perform_v what_o he_o have_v speak_v just_o like_v abraham_n rom._n 4.20_o 21._o god_n have_v make_v he_o a_o promise_n to_o give_v he_o a_o son_n in_o his_o old_a age_n flesh_n and_o blood_n will_v have_v dispute_v against_o this_o promise_n but_o say_v the_o apostle_n he_o be_v strong_a in_o faith_n give_v glory_n unto_o god_n he_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v perform_v what_o he_o have_v speak_v it_o be_v against_o flesh_n and_o blood_n sarah_n be_v old_a and_o he_o be_v a_o hundred_o year_n old_a or_o thereabout_a he_o may_v have_v say_v how_o can_v these_o thing_n be_v and_o refuse_v to_o believe_v it_o no_o but_o he_o give_v glory_n to_o god_n by_o believe_v thus_o we_o be_v to_o act_v faith_n upon_o that_o part_n of_o the_o word_n another_o part_n of_o the_o word_n be_v command_n the_o word_n of_o command_n how_o be_v faith_n to_o act_v there_o namely_o in_o a_o way_n of_o obedience_n we_o shall_v yield_v obedience_n to_o what_o god_n command_v though_o it_o may_v be_v very_o hard_a to_o we_o just_o as_o abraham_n do_v god_n command_v he_o to_o go_v out_o of_o his_o own_o country_n and_o to_o go_v into_o a_o land_n he_o know_v not_o whither_o abraham_n by_o faith_n obey_v and_o go_v out_o not_o know_v whither_o he_o go_v and_o so_o god_n command_v he_o to_o offer_v up_o his_o son_n isaac_n abraham_n act_v faith_n in_o a_o way_n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o command_n and_o then_o another_o part_n of_o the_o word_n be_v threaten_v and_o how_o be_v faith_n to_o act_v upon_o the_o threaten_n namely_o thus_o in_o a_o way_n of_o fear_n to_o endeavour_v to_o avoid_v those_o judgement_n that_o be_v threaten_v in_o hebrew_n 11.7_o by_o faith_n noah_n be_v warn_v of_o god_n of_o thing_n not_o see_v as_o yet_o moâ—ed_v with_o fear_n prepare_v a_o ark_n to_o the_o save_n of_o his_o house_n etc._n etc._n true_o thus_o i_o say_v faith_n be_v to_o 〈◊〉_d set_v a_o work_n and_o to_o act_v various_o according_a â—o_o the_o several_a part_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n there_o be_v several_a part_n of_o the_o word_n of_o goâ—_n now_o the_o whole_a word_n of_o god_n be_v the_o object_n of_o faith_n but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o faith_n doâ—â—_n act_n various_o according_a to_o the_o variety_n oâ—_n the_o part_n of_o the_o word_n now_o it_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o christian_n to_o exercise_v faith_n suitable_o according_a to_o that_o part_n of_o the_o word_n that_o faith_n be_v exercise_v about_o and_o thus_o brethren_n i_o have_v brief_o give_v you_o four_o or_o five_o direction_n how_o we_o be_v to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n that_o so_o we_o may_v not_o hear_v without_o profit_n that_o so_o we_o may_v please_v god_n in_o our_o hear_n for_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n brethren_n and_o belove_a i_o must_v not_o enlarge_v but_o in_o a_o word_n it_o have_v be_v the_o complaint_n of_o most_o christian_n and_o possible_o some_o here_o present_a their_o want_n of_o profit_v by_o the_o word_n oh_o i_o hear_v and_o hear_v but_o the_o lord_n know_v i_o do_v not_o profit_v this_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o your_o complaint_n well_o now_o you_o may_v go_v home_o and_o lay_v your_o hand_n upon_o the_o matter_n of_o humiliation_n for_o we_o before_o the_o lord_n we_o shall_v lie_v low_a in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o our_o so_o little_a act_n of_o faith_n in_o our_o hear_n the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o oh_o therefore_o for_o the_o future_a as_o we_o do_v desire_v that_o the_o lord_n may_v be_v please_v with_o our_o hear_n so_o let_v we_o be_v careful_a to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o our_o hear_n you_o have_v hear_v the_o direction_n i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o repeat_v they_o but_o go_v home_o and_o consider_v they_o and_o be_v careful_a to_o put_v they_o in_o practice_n that_o you_o may_v be_v act_v and_o exercise_v faith_n in_o hear_v the_o word_n for_o without_o faith_n it_o will_v be_v impossible_a for_o you_o to_o please_v god_n though_o you_o shall_v hear_v sermon_n never_o so_o often_o if_o you_o neglect_v to_o act_v and_o exercise_v faith_n you_o will_v not_o profit_v by_o they_o nor_o please_v god_n in_o your_o hear_n and_o so_o now_o i_o have_v do_v with_o this_o particular_a namely_o how_o we_o be_v to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o hear_v the_o word_n it_o remain_v that_o we_o shall_v speak_v about_o exercise_v faith_n in_o our_o partake_n of_o the_o lord_n table_n but_o thus_o much_o shall_v suffice_v for_o the_o present_a sermon_n ix_o hebrew_n xi_o 6._o but_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v he_o the_o word_n of_o come_v to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o those_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v that_o so_o we_o may_v please_v god_n we_o give_v you_o some_o direction_n the_o last_o time_n about_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n i_o come_v now_o to_o lay_v down_o some_o direction_n about_o our_o partake_n of_o the_o lords-supper_n in_o faith_n that_o faith_n be_v requisite_a and_o necessary_a to_o our_o partake_n of_o the_o lords-table_n that_o i_o think_v be_v out_o of_o doubt_n and_o
o_o behold_v the_o lamb_n of_o god_n that_o take_v away_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n believe_v on_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o you_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o have_v everlasting_a life_n you_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v but_o o_o flee_v to_o christ_n for_o help_v he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o save_v sinner_n and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o save_v all_o that_o come_v unto_o god_n by_o he_o whatsoever_o their_o guilt_n whatsoever_o their_o sin_n be_v the_o second_o argument_n or_o motive_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n be_v take_v from_o the_o misery_n and_o lose_v estate_n and_o condition_n of_o those_o who_o do_v not_o believe_v on_o christ_n he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o doct._n 2._o that_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o he_o that_o belive_v not_o the_o son_n that_o be_v he_o that_o believe_v not_o on_o the_o son_n this_o be_v speak_v in_o opposition_n to_o the_o former_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n he_o shall_v not_o see_v life_n it_o be_v a_o metaphorical_a expression_n the_o meaning_n be_v he_o shall_v not_o enjoy_v everlasting_a life_n he_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o it_o he_o have_v no_o part_n in_o eternal_a life_n yea_o and_o for_o the_o present_a the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o as_o to_o the_o state_n and_o condition_n wherein_o he_o be_v some_o take_v these_o word_n to_o be_v intend_v of_o those_o only_o who_o never_o to_o the_o last_o believe_v in_o christ_n that_o such_o shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o they_o this_o be_v true_a but_o because_o the_o apostle_n say_v even_o of_o the_o elect_n that_o they_o be_v by_o nature_n child_n of_o wrath_n even_o as_o other_o ephes_n 2.3_o we_o may_v take_v the_o word_n so_o that_o all_o whatsoever_o whilst_o unbeliever_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o they_o the_o elect_n though_o they_o be_v give_v to_o christ_n from_o eternity_n yet_o they_o be_v neither_o justify_v nor_o sanctify_v till_o they_o do_v believe_v in_o christ_n indeed_o the_o lord_n have_v thought_n of_o peace_n to_o they_o which_o shall_v be_v manifest_v in_o due_a time_n but_o they_o have_v sin_v as_o well_o as_o other_o they_o be_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n as_o well_o as_o other_o until_o they_o do_v believe_v on_o christ_n yet_o so_o as_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o any_o one_o of_o they_o have_v the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n execute_v upon_o they_o but_o shall_v be_v deliver_v from_o go_v down_o to_o the_o pit_n because_o the_o lord_n have_v sound_v a_o ransom_n for_o they_o the_o decree_n of_o election_n shall_v be_v execute_v upon_o they_o and_o the_o redemption_n of_o christ_n shall_v be_v apply_v to_o they_o to_o prevent_v the_o fall_n and_o final_a execution_n of_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n in_o their_o eternal_a damnation_n but_o as_o for_o those_o who_o never_o believe_v one_o the_o son_n the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n come_v full_o and_o eternal_o upon_o they_o and_o so_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o they_o for_o ever_o all_o have_v sin_v in_o adam_n and_o so_o be_v become_v guilty_a before_o god_n all_o have_v a_o inward_a rebellion_n and_o opposition_n in_o their_o nature_n against_o god_n all_o when_o they_o come_v to_o understanding_n be_v guilty_a of_o actual_a sin_n so_o that_o it_o can_v be_v that_o ever_o we_o shall_v see_v life_n but_o shall_v have_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v upon_o we_o except_o we_o be_v justify_v free_o by_o grace_n through_o the_o redemption_n which_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n and_o we_o receive_v this_o grace_n by_o believe_v on_o christ_n who_o god_n have_v set_v forth_o to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n for_o sin_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n rom._n 3.25_o it_o be_v by_o faith_n that_o we_o receive_v the_o atonement_n that_o christ_n have_v make_v for_o our_o sin_n and_o the_o everlasting_a righteousness_n that_o he_o have_v perform_v for_o we_o now_o concern_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n which_o the_o text_n speak_v of_o you_o must_v not_o understand_v it_o as_o if_o there_o be_v such_o passion_n in_o god_n as_o there_o be_v in_o man_n but_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o thing_n to_o our_o weak_a capacity_n god_n wrath_n be_v his_o afflict_a and_o punish_v it_o be_v his_o revenge_a justice_n and_o this_o all_o man_n be_v liable_a unto_o for_o their_o sin_n who_o do_v not_o believe_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n application_n use_v 1_o learn_v hence_o that_o it_o be_v not_o incongruous_a or_o disagree_v to_o the_o prach_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o hold_v forth_o threaten_n of_o wrath._n here_o john_n the_o baptist_n in_o thâ—s_n evangellical_a discourse_n of_o christ_n do_v hold_v forth_o most_o terrible_a threaten_n unto_o those_o that_o continue_v in_o the_o state_n of_o unbelief_n he_o say_v they_o shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o they_o and_o so_o our_o saviour_n when_o he_o send_v out_o the_o apostle_n to_o preach_v unto_o the_o gentile_n say_v he_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v damn_v mark_n 16.16_o threaten_n be_v a_o mean_v appoint_v to_o awaken_v we_o to_o see_v our_o danger_n and_o be_v useful_a in_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n hebr._n 2.3_o how_o shall_v we_o escape_v if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a salvation_n hebr._n 12.25_o see_v that_o you_o refuse_v not_o he_o that_o speak_v for_o if_o they_o escape_v not_o who_o refuse_v he_o that_o speak_v on_o earth_n much_o more_o shall_v not_o we_o escape_v if_o we_o turn_v away_o from_o he_o that_o speak_v only_o deliver_v from_o the_o wrath_n to_o come_v but_o they_o shall_v see_v life_n they_o shall_v enjoy_v everlasting_a life_n and_o though_o believer_n have_v the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n to_o encounter_v with_o yet_o they_o need_v not_o be_v dismay_v they_o may_v say_v with_o the_o apostle_n 1_o cor._n 15.55_o o_o death_n where_o be_v thy_o sting_n o_o grave_a where_o be_v thy_o victory_n he_o triumph_v over_o death_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o poor_a unarmed_a captive_n where_o be_v thy_o power_n and_o strength_n and_o as_o to_o affliction_n although_o believer_n may_v have_v much_o of_o the_o cross_n yet_o they_o have_v nothing_o of_o the_o curse_n christ_n have_v deliver_v we_o from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n be_v make_v a_o curse_n for_o we_o gal._n 3.13_o and_o we_o know_v that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v for_o good_a to_o they_o that_o love_n god_n who_o be_v call_v according_a to_o his_o purpose_n rom._n 8.28_o you_o that_o be_v believer_n in_o christ_n you_o may_v have_v free_a access_n to_o god_n through_o he_o you_o may_v ask_v for_o yourselves_o you_o may_v ask_v for_o your_o child_n that_o they_o may_v live_v before_o he_o you_o may_v ask_v for_o the_o nation_n you_o may_v ask_v for_o your_o friend_n though_o you_o be_v unworthy_a in_o yourselves_o yet_o come_v in_o his_o name_n and_o as_o those_o that_o be_v in_o he_o whatsoever_o you_o ask_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n he_o hear_v you_o and_o beside_o all_o your_o mercy_n and_o privilege_n here_o when_o your_o day_n be_v expire_v you_o shall_v have_v the_o full_a enjoyment_n of_o everlasting_a life_n use_v 3_o see_v he_o that_o believe_v on_o the_o son_n have_v everlasting_a life_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o this_o shall_v put_v we_o all_o upon_o this_o great_a work_n of_o believe_v on_o christ_n this_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o very_a scope_n of_o this_o holy_a man_n john_n baptist_n in_o what_o he_o have_v say_v here_o he_o will_v have_v those_o that_o he_o speak_v unto_o to_o believe_v on_o jesus_n christ_n he_o show_v they_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a concernment_n a_o matter_n of_o life_n and_o death_n be_v you_o persuade_v of_o it_o that_o this_o be_v a_o truth_n that_o john_n baptist_n here_o speak_v that_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o and_o o_o do_v you_o think_v that_o you_o be_v able_a to_o grapple_v with_o the_o
and_o good_a work_n they_o be_v not_o faith_n and_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n reckon_v what_o you_o can_v reckon_v and_o say_v what_o you_o can_v for_o yourselves_o yet_o consider_v be_v this_o faith_n or_o no_o if_o it_o be_v not_o faith_n it_o can_v please_v god_n possible_o you_o may_v desire_v and_o endeavour_v to_o walk_v in_o the_o strict_a way_n of_o profession_n and_o worship_n god_n in_o the_o close_a way_n suppose_v you_o do_v so_o you_o desire_v to_o walk_v in_o church-fellowship_n with_o the_o saint_n but_o this_o be_v not_o faith_n still_o and_o without_o faith_n be_v be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n i_o pray_v consider_v the_o apostle_n paul_n say_v paul_n before_o he_o be_v convert_v and_o be_v bring_v to_o believe_v on_o christ_n in_o act_n 16.5_o say_v he_o after_o the_o most_o straight_a sect_n of_o our_o religion_n i_o live_v a_o pharisee_n and_o say_v he_o in_o another_o place_n in_o phil._n 3.7_o 8_o 9_o as_o concern_v the_o righteousness_n which_o be_v in_o the_o law_n i_o be_v blameless_a say_v he_o at_o verse_n 6._o but_o now_o mark_v say_v he_o this_o be_v not_o faith_n though_o when_o he_o come_v to_o if_o the_o lord_n please_v i_o may_v speak_v something_o to_o that_o at_o some_o other_o time_n all_o that_o i_o have_v to_o say_v for_o the_o present_a be_v this_o you_o see_v friend_n brethren_n and_o belove_a what_o cause_n we_o have_v all_o of_o we_o i_o speak_v not_o only_o to_o unbeliever_n but_o to_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n as_o for_o unbeliever_n what_o cause_n have_v they_o to_o go_v and_o bewail_v it_o before_o the_o lord_n that_o you_o have_v lead_v such_o a_o course_n of_o life_n that_o you_o have_v do_v nothing_o that_o have_v be_v please_v unto_o god_n and_o you_o that_o be_v believer_n have_v you_o do_v all_o that_o you_o have_v do_v in_o faith_n have_v you_o pray_v in_o faith_n have_v you_o hear_v the_o word_n in_o faith_n and_o have_v you_o partake_v in_o other_o lord_n assistance_n to_o speak_v something_o to_o this_o at_o this_o time_n and_o o_o brethren_n this_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o very_o great_a concernment_n to_o do_v all_o that_o we_o do_v in_o faith_n to_o pray_v every_o prayer_n in_o faith_n and_o every_o time_n we_o hear_v the_o word_n to_o hear_v it_o in_o faith_n and_o if_o we_o partake_v of_o the_o lords-table_n every_o time_n to_o partake_v in_o faith_n or_o else_o we_o do_v not_o please_v god_n in_o any_o of_o these_o duty_n let_v i_o therefore_o a_o little_a stir_n you_o up_o to_o it_o that_o you_o may_v be_v provoke_v if_o possible_a to_o do_v all_o that_o you_o do_v in_o faith_n brief_o let_v i_o hint_n three_o or_o four_o word_n that_o way_n to_o show_v you_o that_o it_o be_v of_o very_o great_a concernment_n for_o every_o one_o of_o we_o to_o perform_v every_o duty_n and_o to_o partake_v of_o every_o ordinance_n in_o a_o way_n of_o faith_n for_o first_o of_o all_o else_o all_o that_o ever_o we_o do_v all_o our_o labour_n all_o our_o endeavour_n all_o our_o pain_n in_o our_o duty_n and_o performance_n will_v be_v all_o in_o vain_a and_o will_v a_o wise_a man_n be_v willing_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n in_o vain_a to_o take_v pain_n and_o all_o in_o vain_a have_v you_o suffer_v so_o many_o thing_n say_v the_o apostle_n gal._n 3_o 4._o in_o vain_a true_o so_o may_v we_o say_v to_o those_o that_o do_v not_o exercise_v faith_n in_o their_o duty_n and_o performance_n have_v you_o do_v so_o many_o thing_n in_o vain_a will_v any_o of_o you_o take_v pain_n in_o your_o calling_n willing_o in_o vain_a and_o loose_v all_o your_o labour_n be_v you_o willing_a that_o all_o your_o labour_n and_o travel_n and_o pain_n from_o day_n to_o day_n shall_v be_v lose_v and_o all_o in_o vain_a you_o will_v count_v it_o a_o very_a grievous_a and_o uncomfortable_a thing_n if_o any_o of_o you_o shall_v take_v any_o great_a voyage_n by_o sea_n and_o all_o your_o voyage_n and_o hazard_n shall_v be_v in_o his_o prayer_n and_o so_o prevail_v so_o i_o may_v instance_n in_o other_o sometime_o god_n cast_v in_o a_o promise_n give_v some_o secret_a hint_n of_o a_o promise_n in_o prayer_n as_o paul_n he_o have_v that_o promise_n when_o he_o be_v afflict_v with_o the_o thorn_n in_o the_o flesh_n and_o a_o messenger_n of_o satan_n to_o buffet_v he_o god_n tell_v he_o that_o his_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o he_o 2_o cor._n 12.9_o and_o he_o make_v use_v of_o that_o and_o gather_v strength_n from_o it_o but_o suppose_v now_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v no_o particular_a promise_n to_o strengthen_v his_o faith_n in_o prayer_n then_o let_v he_o eye_n some_o general_a promise_n or_o other_o and_o this_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a encouragement_n and_o strengthen_n and_o help_v to_o faith_n in_o prayer_n to_o incline_v the_o heart_n to_o be_v persuade_v that_o god_n be_v willing_a because_o of_o such_o general_a promise_n or_o suppose_v that_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v no_o promise_n to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o or_o to_o act_v faith_n in_o prayer_n upon_o then_o four_o in_o the_o four_o place_n take_v a_o four_o direction_n and_o that_o be_v to_o eye_n the_o name_n of_o god_n the_o attribute_n of_o god_n they_o be_v call_v the_o name_n of_o god_n thereby_o god_n do_v discover_v himself_o and_o his_o nature_n to_o we_o and_o plead_v by_o virtue_n of_o some_o attribute_n of_o god_n the_o name_n of_o god_n for_o sometime_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v in_o the_o dark_a and_o may_v not_o have_v the_o light_n of_o so_o much_o as_o any_o one_o promise_n to_o make_v use_n of_o now_o you_o know_v what_o the_o holy-ghost_n say_v in_o isaiah_n 5.10_o who_o be_v among_o you_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n that_o obey_v the_o voice_n of_o his_o servant_n that_o we_o eye_n some_o attribute_n of_o god_n that_o may_v be_v helpful_a to_o we_o in_o prayer_n as_o now_o the_o power_n of_o god_n it_o be_v very_o useful_a to_o eye_n the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o so_o you_o will_v find_v the_o saint_n have_v make_v use_n of_o the_o power_n of_o god_n that_o be_v put_v forth_o in_o the_o creation_n of_o the_o world_n i_o remember_v jeremiah_n chapter_n 32._o when_v the_o child_n of_o israel_n be_v to_o go_v into_o captivity_n for_o seventy_o year_n the_o lord_n bad_a jeremiah_n to_o buy_v the_o field_n of_o his_o uncle_n for_o a_o evidence_n that_o god_n will_v bring_v his_o people_n back_o again_o jeremiah_n when_o he_o have_v do_v he_o will_v fall_v to_o prayer_n and_o he_o make_v use_v of_o the_o power_n of_o god_n at_o the_o 17_o verse_n ah_o lord_n god_n behold_v thou_o have_v make_v the_o heaven_n and_o earth_n by_o thy_o great_a power_n and_o stretch_v out_o arm_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o too_o hard_o for_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n for_o flesh_n and_o blood_n to_o believe_v that_o i_o and_o my_o posterity_n shall_v have_v this_o land_n again_o but_o there_o be_v nothing_o too_o hard_o for_o we_o be_v aware_a of_o you_o know_v when_o many_o come_v to_o christ_n in_o their_o distress_n when_o he_o be_v here_o upon_o earth_n for_o help_v the_o poor_a leper_n when_o he_o come_v to_o christ_n he_o come_v with_o this_o lord_z if_o thou_o will_v thou_o can_v make_v i_o clean_o mat._n 8.2_o and_o say_v christ_n to_o the_o father_n of_o the_o child_n that_o be_v possess_v when_o he_o come_v to_o he_o to_o cast_v out_o the_o devil_n can_v thou_o believe_v say_v christ_n that_o i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v this_o because_o he_o question_v the_o power_n of_o christ_n mark_v 9.22_o lord_n if_o of_o god_n you_o read_v of_o it_o frequent_o in_o the_o psalm_n how_o david_n make_v use_v of_o that_o in_o his_o prayer_n for_o thy_o mercy_n sake_n deliver_v i_o and_o have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o according_a to_o the_o multitude_n of_o thy_o tender_a mercy_n psal_n 51.1_o so_o moses_n in_o numb_a 14.17_o 18._o he_o argue_v the_o cause_n with_o god_n in_o his_o prayer_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o his_o mercy_n let_v the_o power_n of_o my_o lord_n be_v great_a according_a as_o thou_o have_v speak_v say_v the_o lord_n be_v long_o suffer_v and_o of_o great_a mercy_n forgive_a iniquity_n pray_v and_o pray_v and_o never_o look_v after_o their_o prayer_n they_o pray_v without_o any_o hope_n or_o expectation_n of_o god_n hear_v and_o answer_v their_o prayer_n now_o i_o say_v we_o shall_v pray_v with_o hope_n and_o expectation_n wait_v for_o a_o answer_n of_o our_o prayer_n from_o the_o lord_n one_o way_n or_o other_o in_o the_o lord_n own_o way_n for_o sometime_o the_o lord_n may_v answer_v we_o in_o a_o way_n that_o we_o can_v not_o expect_v not_o in_o that_o particular_a thing_n that_o we_o pray_v for_o as_o david_n say_v in_o psal_n 35.13_o but_o as_o for_o i_o when_o they_o be_v sick_a my_o clothing_n be_v sackcloth_n i_o humble_v my_o soul_n with_o fast_v and_o
say_v there_o when_o christ_n be_v warn_v they_o to_o take_v heed_n of_o the_o world_n you_o can_v serve_v god_n and_o mammon_n the_o pharisee_n who_o be_v covetous_a hear_v all_o these_o thing_n and_o they_o deride_v he_o this_o be_v against_o the_o grain_n their_o heart_n be_v covetous_a and_o set_v upon_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o world_n and_o now_o whatever_o christ_n speak_v they_o despise_v and_o set_v at_o nought_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o holy-ghost_n do_v warn_v we_o against_o and_o do_v show_v we_o that_o this_o be_v the_o great_a ground_n and_o cause_n why_o people_n hear_v the_o word_n and_o profit_n not_o because_o their_o heart_n go_v after_o their_o covetousness_n ezek._n 33.31_o 32._o say_v the_o lord_n there_o this_o people_n come_v unto_o thou_o as_o the_o people_n come_v and_o sit_v before_o thou_o as_o my_o people_n and_o they_o hear_v my_o word_n and_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v please_v to_o they_o and_o they_o take_v delight_n in_o they_o world_n come_v and_o take_v up_o the_o head_n and_o the_o heart_n here_o will_v be_v no_o room_n for_o the_o word_n to_o take_v place_n it_o be_v just_a as_o it_o be_v in_o a_o great_a crowd_n where_o there_o be_v a_o great_a noise_n if_o there_o be_v a_o great_a noise_n in_o the_o street_n if_o one_o come_v and_o speak_v a_o word_n in_o your_o ear_n you_o can_v hear_v he_o because_o of_o the_o noise_n so_o if_o our_o heart_n and_o ear_n be_v fill_v with_o the_o care_n and_o the_o business_n of_o the_o world_n it_o make_v such_o a_o noise_n as_o we_o can_v hear_v and_o therefore_o christ_n tell_v we_o that_o these_o care_n of_o the_o world_n be_v like_o thorn_n in_o matt._n 13.22_o he_o that_o receive_v seed_n among_o thorn_n be_v he_o that_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o riches_n choke_v the_o word_n and_o he_o become_v unfruitful_a though_o we_o hear_v much_o and_o there_o be_v much_o seed_n sow_o yet_o if_o it_o spring_v up_o among_o thorn_n it_o will_v never_o come_v to_o any_o maturity_n and_o therefore_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o christ_n by_o two_o parable_n do_v show_v we_o how_o the_o occasion_n and_o business_n of_o the_o world_n do_v hinder_v people_n from_o listen_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o word_n in_o luke_n 14._o there_o be_v one_o parable_n of_o a_o great_a supper_n that_o a_o great_a man_n make_v and_o invite_v many_o but_o they_o refuse_v to_o come_v and_o make_v light_n of_o it_o and_o the_o other_o parable_n you_o have_v in_o matt._n 22.5_o concern_v a_o king_n which_o make_v a_o marriage_n feast_n for_o his_o son_n and_o invite_v his_o guest_n and_o when_o the_o feast_n be_v prepare_v they_o make_v light_a of_o it_o and_o will_v not_o come_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n one_o must_v go_v to_o his_o farm_n and_o another_o to_o his_o merchandise_n one_o about_o this_o business_n and_o another_o about_o that_o and_o they_o can_v not_o attend_v to_o the_o lord_n voice_n in_o his_o word_n christ_n do_v thereby_o show_v we_o that_o the_o matter_n and_o care_n of_o this_o world_n when_o they_o fill_v the_o head_n and_o the_o heart_n they_o do_v hinder_v we_o from_o attend_v upon_o god_n in_o his_o word_n this_o be_v now_o another_o impediment_n which_o be_v to_o be_v remove_v if_o we_o will_v so_o attend_v upon_o the_o word_n as_o to_o hear_v it_o with_o profit_n and_o true_o brethren_n to_o speak_v plain_o i_o be_o afraid_a that_o this_o be_v one_o great_a cause_n why_o many_o do_v profit_n so_o little_a by_o hear_v the_o word_n they_o come_v reek_v out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o their_o hand_n and_o head_n and_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o the_o world_n and_o by_o that_o mean_v the_o word_n come_v to_o be_v unprofitable_a to_o they_o oh_o that_o we_o can_v therefore_o learn_v to_o understand_v the_o lord_n will_v to_o understand_v what_o be_v the_o impediment_n that_o hinder_v we_o from_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o profit_n and_o be_v careful_a to_o get_v they_o remove_v this_o be_v the_o second_o direction_n how_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n in_o a_o way_n of_o faith_n faith_n do_v put_v we_o upon_o the_o remove_n those_o impediment_n that_o do_v hinder_v we_o from_o profit_v by_o the_o word_n three_o the_o three_o direction_n be_v this_o if_o we_o will_v hear_v the_o word_n in_o a_o way_n of_o faith_n so_o as_o we_o may_v profit_v by_o it_o it_o be_v to_o hear_v it_o as_o the_o very_a word_n of_o god_n as_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v from_o heaven_n to_o we_o immediate_o how_o will_v we_o hear_v the_o word_n if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o we_o immediate_o from_o heaven_n with_o what_o reverence_n and_o attention_n will_v you_o hear_v how_o will_v you_o be_v careful_a to_o swallow_v up_o every_o word_n that_o
