i_o therefore_o have_v tell_v they_o these_o my_o remedy_n hope_v that_o if_o they_o use_v these_o my_o remedy_n many_o untimely_a death_n may_v be_v prevent_v indeed_o it_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n that_o man_n who_o be_v the_o image_n of_o god_n shall_v through_o the_o great_a rashness_n and_o unskilfulness_n of_o physician_n be_v often_o deprive_v not_o only_o of_o their_o health_n but_o also_o their_o life_n whereas_o there_o be_v many_o perfect_a remedy_n create_v by_o god_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v use_v in_o stead_n of_o those_o miserable_a remedy_n of_o they_o now_o i_o will_v show_v you_o how_o the_o aforesaid_a balsam_n and_o potion_n shall_v be_v use_v you_o must_v lay_v soft_a lint_n or_o the_o scrape_n of_o linen_n in_o the_o wound_n and_o lay_v it_o over_o all_o the_o wound_n if_o you_o can_v then_o drop_v the_o balsam_n warm_a into_o and_o over_o all_o the_o wound_n by_o this_o mean_v the_o wound_n shall_v not_o become_v dry_a but_o always_o be_v keep_v moist_a the_o potion_n must_v be_v take_v in_o the_o morning_n at_o noon_n and_o at_o night_n and_o each_o time_n you_o must_v take_v two_o spoonful_n of_o this_o potion_n in_o twenty_o spoonful_n of_o wine_n body_n be_v come_v to_o its_o full_a growth_n and_o continue_v to_o the_o time_n of_o gray_a hair_n and_o afterward_o come_v old_a age_n remember_v likewise_o that_o each_o of_o these_o age_n require_v such_o medicine_n of_o long_a life_n which_o be_v proper_a and_o most_o agreeable_a to_o they_o as_o be_v say_v before_o it_o may_v be_v this_o will_v be_v object_v to_o i_o by_o the_o as_o prince_n king_n emperor_n nobleman_n etc._n etc._n ordinary_o live_v not_o so_o long_o as_o other_o they_o be_v more_o subject_n to_o infirmity_n and_o disease_n than_o other_o so_o that_o they_o live_v not_o out_o the_o half_a of_o their_o day_n certain_o if_o there_o be_v any_o such_o medicine_n these_o great_a man_n will_v have_v they_o i_o answer_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o be_v well_o the_o name_n i_o give_v another_o answer_n to_o the_o objection_n which_o be_v this_o that_o the_o intemperance_n of_o great_a man_n be_v most_o often_o the_o cause_n of_o their_o short_a life_n and_o this_o they_o have_v as_o part_v of_o the_o reward_n of_o their_o wickedness_n and_o this_o i_o think_v sufficient_a for_o answer_v to_o this_o objection_n chap._n ii_o the_o division_n of_o medicine_n according_a to_o the_o difference_n of_o disease_n and_o what_o be_v the_o chief_a use_n of_o medicine_n you_o have_v hear_v that_o as_o there_o be_v a_o threefold_a difference_n of_o man_n etc._n and_o some_o disease_n come_v from_o the_o time_n and_o season_n &_o other_o accident_n concur_v with_o disorderly_a live_n as_o pestilence_n madness_n etc._n etc._n these_o kind_n of_o disease_n be_v cure_v by_o the_o medicine_n of_o long_a life_n second_o some_o disease_n be_v natural_a which_o proceed_v of_o natural_a external_a cause_n and_o those_o disease_n be_v to_o be_v cure_v by_o natural_a medicine_n some_o disease_n be_v unnatural_a viz._n such_o as_o come_v by_o enchantment_n superstition_n etc._n etc._n i_o wish_v our_o physician_n not_o to_o meddle_v with_o such_o disease_n for_o they_o seem_v to_o i_o to_o come_v upon_o people_n by_o god_n permission_n as_o punishment_n and_o if_o so_o they_o be_v not_o curable_a i_o know_v much_o may_v be_v do_v in_o this_o case_n by_o image_n ring_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v preservative_n of_o life_n of_o which_o i_o will_v not_o speak_v here_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o they_o elsewhere_o for_o it_o belong_v to_o astronomy_n to_o treat_v of_o they_o three_o disease_n which_o proceed_v not_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o body_n or_o from_o weakness_n but_o otherwise_o they_o must_v be_v cure_v before_o you_o the_o four_o humour_n be_v not_o to_o be_v regard_v but_o only_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n which_o renew_v and_o cherish_v those_o humour_n and_o therefore_o that_o physician_n who_o think_v by_o rectify_v the_o humour_n to_o make_v up_o the_o defect_n of_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n he_o be_v like_o that_o man_n who_o have_v suppress_v the_o flame_n think_v he_o have_v quench_v the_o fire_n and_o leave_v the_o live_v coal_n he_o who_o will_v preserve_v a_o tree_n must_v be_v more_o careful_a of_o the_o root_n then_o the_o branch_n because_o the_o branch_n have_v all_o their_o nourishment_n and_o virtue_n from_o the_o root_n and_o if_o we_o do_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o branch_n when_o they_o be_v faulty_a our_o principal_a aim_n therein_o be_v to_o cherish_v the_o life_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o root_n for_o hence_o the_o branch_n have_v their_o life_n and_o virtue_n now_o as_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n be_v to_o the_o branch_n so_o be_v the_o strength_n of_o nature_n to_o the_o humour_n of_o the_o body_n so_o that_o if_o the_o humour_n of_o the_o body_n be_v distemper_v we_o do_v not_o therefore_o lose_v our_o health_n unless_o by_o this_o distemper_n the_o root_n of_o life_n etc._n etc._n the_o strength_n of_o nature_n be_v wrong_v and_o therefore_o what_o we_o do_v in_o rectify_v the_o distemper_n of_o humour_n we_o do_v it_o for_o the_o conservation_n and_o cherish_v the_o strength_n of_o nature_n this_o be_v the_o chief_a thing_n we_o aim_v at_o in_o the_o use_n of_o medicine_n chap._n iii_o what_o life_n be_v whether_o and_o how_o ointment_n be_v also_o good_a against_o inflame_v eat_v sore_n and_o if_o it_o be_v anoint_v upon_o the_o temple_n of_o the_o head_n it_o very_o much_o help_v those_o extraordinary_a pain_n of_o the_o head_n which_o almost_o distract_v people_n it_o help_v also_o that_o inflammation_n call_v the_o rose_n and_o the_o heat_n of_o ulcer_n of_o woman_n breast_n in_o such_o case_n it_o have_v do_v very_o much_o good_a the_o cancer_n have_v also_o a_o faculty_n of_o expelling_a urine_n sand_n and_o the_o stone_n in_o the_o bladder_n which_o it_o do_v powerful_o dissolve_v and_o expel_v with_o the_o urine_n so_o that_o those_o who_o seed_n much_o upon_o these_o cancer_n they_o be_v free_a from_o those_o disease_n so_o they_o be_v a_o excellent_a preservative_n i_o can_v pass_v by_o here_o the_o cruelty_n of_o physician_n who_o will_v cure_v the_o canker_n by_o cut_v burn_a and_o eat_v medicine_n and_o they_o have_v no_o other_o reason_n for_o it_o but_o that_o they_o think_v such_o a_o disease_n can_v not_o be_v overcome_v but_o by_o corrosive_n but_o so_o they_o make_v the_o pain_n great_a not_o consider_v that_o the_o canker_n itself_o be_v a_o eat_a sore_n and_o therefore_o we_o
