and_o that_o he_o be_v not_o in_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o three_o place_n we_o may_v here_o learn_v what_o be_v 3._o the_o true_a cause_n of_o a_o christian_n man_v stand_v in_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n namely_o not_o the_o excellency_n of_o our_o strength_n nor_o the_o perfection_n of_o our_o faith_n or_o of_o any_o thing_n in_o we_o but_o the_o true_a cause_n be_v out_o of_o we_o even_o in_o god_n it_o be_v the_o stableness_n of_o his_o purpose_n the_o immutability_n of_o his_o election_n the_o truth_n of_o his_o covenant_n the_o infallibility_n of_o his_o word_n and_o the_o certainty_n of_o his_o love_n wheresoever_o he_o bestow_v it_o and_o the_o excellency_n and_o all_o sufficiency_n of_o christ_n merit_n in_o who_o we_o be_v love_v and_o elect_v therefore_o say_v the_o 29._o apostle_n the_o gift_n and_o calling_n of_o god_n be_v without_o repentance_n and_o who_o he_o love_v he_o love_v unto_o the_o end_n 1._o and_o the_o prophet_n say_v of_o god_n i_o sick_a man_n will_v but_o can_v the_o strong_a man_n lift_v he_o up_o he_o walk_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o strong_a man_n each_o have_a hold_n of_o other_o by_o and_o by_o the_o sick_a man_n faint_v and_o let_v his_o hold_n go_v but_o the_o strong_a man_n hold_v fast_o and_o keep_v he_o from_o fall_v and_o so_o he_o stand_v not_o by_o his_o own_o but_o the_o strong_a man_n strength_n so_o be_v it_o in_o this_o case_n a_o christian_n convert_v have_v hold_v of_o god_n by_o his_o faith_n and_o love_n god_n have_v hold_v of_o he_o by_o his_o eternal_a election_n and_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o by_o the_o love_n he_o bear_v he_o in_o christ_n now_o we_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o the_o course_n of_o our_o obedience_n but_o if_o temptation_n come_v we_o shrink_v and_o fall_v away_o our_o faith_n and_o love_n like_o a_o sick_a man_n strength_n be_v soon_o spend_v but_o then_o though_o we_o let_v go_v the_o hold_v we_o have_v of_o god_n god_n will_v never_o let_v go_v the_o hold_v he_o have_v of_o we_o but_o in_o that_o love_n he_o bear_v we_o he_o still_o uphold_v we_o and_o so_o we_o stand_v not_o by_o our_o own_o strength_n but_o by_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n who_o like_o the_o strong_a man_n hold_v we_o so_o as_o we_o shall_v not_o depart_v from_o he_o then_o for_o the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n we_o may_v here_o learn_v first_o that_o the_o romish_a synagogue_n in_o deny_v this_o and_o affirm_v that_o a_o man_n may_v fall_v utter_o from_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n do_v no_o wrong_n at_o all_o to_o we_o but_o the_o wrong_n be_v to_o god_n himself_o the_o certainty_n of_o who_o covenant_n and_o truth_n of_o who_o purpose_n be_v hereby_o call_v into_o question_n as_o though_o god_n shall_v choose_v a_o man_n he_o will_v forsake_v and_o love_v he_o to_o day_n who_o he_o will_v hate_v the_o next_o whereas_o contrariwise_o as_o he_o love_v we_o when_o we_o love_v not_o he_o so_o he_o will_v keep_v fast_o hold_v on_o we_o when_o we_o in_o our_o weakness_n will_v let_v go_v the_o hold_v we_o have_v of_o he_o and_o for_o ourselves_o let_v this_o teach_v we_o to_o ascribe_v the_o cause_n where_o it_o be_v due_a even_o to_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o christ_n mediation_n if_o we_o slip_v or_o fall_v we_o may_v thank_v ourselves_o but_o if_o we_o stand_v and_o persevere_v we_o must_v thank_v the_o lord_n let_v we_o therefore_o cry_v to_o god_n with_o the_o prophet_n not_o unto_o we_o o_o lord_n not_o unto_o we_o but_o to_o thy_o name_n give_v the_o praise_n and_o why_o 1._o to_o he_o for_o thy_o love_a mercic_n and_o for_o thy_o truth_n sake_n for_o it_o be_v his_o mercy_n and_o truth_n that_o uphold_v we_o from_o fall_v and_o perish_v eternal_o last_o in_o as_o 4._o much_o as_o christ_n say_v he_o pray_v for_o he_o that_o his_o faith_n fail_v not_o and_o so_o uphold_v he_o by_o the_o virtue_n and_o merit_n of_o his_o holy_a prayer_n we_o learn_v here_o the_o excellency_n of_o prayer_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v the_o best_a and_o pourfull_a mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v do_v good_a one_o to_o another_o when_o christ_n will_v do_v the_o great_a favour_n to_o peter_n next_o to_o die_v for_o he_o he_o pray_v tom._n for_o he_o prayer_n and_o preach_v be_v the_o two_o comfort_n of_o the_o church_n if_o thou_o pray_v say_v augustine_n thou_o speak_v with_o god_n if_o thou_o hear_v or-read_a god_n loquimur_fw-la speak_v with_o thou_o both_o be_v commend_v to_o we_o by_o the_o continual_a practice_n of_o christ_n who_o spend_v much_o time_n in_o preach_v and_o much_o time_n in_o prayer_n let_v we_o therefore_o religious_o embrace_v both_o these_o sacred_a ordinance_n as_o the_o special_a mean_n of_o our_o spiritual_a comfort_n and_o by_o this_o practice_n of_o our_o saviour_n let_v we_o all_o be_v stir_v up_o to_o this_o holy_a duty_n shall_v christ_n pray_v and_o not_o thou_o be_v he_o tie_v and_o will_v thou_o be_v free_a be_v ashamed_a of_o thy_o profaneness_n thou_o that_o never_o praie_v and_o say_v not_o
