clear_a to_o they_o how_o far_o short_a both_o be_v of_o give_v they_o the_o least_o degree_n of_o true_a happiness_n for_o these_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o solomon_n study_n here_o mention_v namely_o to_o know_v where_o about_o the_o wit_n of_o the_o best_a of_o unrenewed_a man_n be_v employ_v which_o he_o call_v wisdom_n and_o to_o know_v how_o base_a and_o vile_a course_n which_o he_o call_v madness_n and_o folly_n other_o of_o they_o follow_v and_o so_o to_o make_v know_v that_o in_o both_o man_n fall_v alike_o short_a of_o their_o fancy_a happiness_n i_o give_v my_o heart_n to_o know_v wisdom_n and_o to_o know_v madness_n and_o folly_n 11._o however_o there_o be_v several_a sort_n of_o these_o who_o pursue_v their_o happiness_n in_o the_o earth_n and_o several_a course_n which_o they_o take_v for_o attain_v to_o the_o same_o some_o of_o they_o be_v take_v up_o with_o the_o study_n of_o moral_a virtue_n here_o call_v wisdom_n other_o of_o they_o give_v themselves_o up_o to_o their_o sensual_a pleasure_n and_o of_o these_o some_o glory_v and_o boast_v in_o their_o wickedness_n as_o if_o it_o be_v their_o renown_n as_o the_o word_n translate_v madness_n signify_v other_o again_o brutish_a and_o stupid_a have_v no_o respect_n at_o all_o to_o their_o credit_n provide_v they_o may_v satisfy_v their_o lust_n as_o the_o word_n folly_n signify_v yet_o all_o of_o they_o shall_v come_v alike_o short_a of_o the_o happiness_n they_o think_v to_o find_v and_o the_o
sound_a truth_n in_o the_o general_n but_o they_o must_v also_o take_v pain_n to_o reckon_v out_o and_o insist_v upon_o particular_a instance_n wherein_o the_o truth_n of_o what_o they_o deliver_v be_v verify_v that_o so_o the_o lord_n people_n by_o the_o ordinary_a occurence_n of_o his_o providence_n and_o dispensation_n with_o they_o may_v be_v mind_v of_o what_o they_o have_v hear_v and_o in_o these_o may_v see_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o same_o for_o here_o this_o divine_a preacher_n worthy_a to_o be_v imitate_v by_o all_o minister_n be_v guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n apply_v the_o same_o to_o the_o particular_a passage_n of_o god_n providence_n along_o their_o life_n but_o for_o their_o help_n he_o condescend_v upon_o twenty_o eight_o particular_a dispensation_n the_o time_n and_o season_n whereof_o be_v set_v and_o fix_v there_o be_v a_o time_n to_o be_v bear_v and_o a_o time_n to_o die_v a_o time_n to_o plant_v etc._n etc._n 2._o as_o their_o will_n still_o determination_n of_o providence_n for_o the_o time_n of_o they_o there_o be_v a_o time_n to_o be_v bear_v and_o a_o time_n to_o die_v 4._o the_o particular_a time_n of_o every_o one_o entry_n into_o the_o world_n have_v be_v from_o eternity_n fix_v and_o condescend_v upon_o by_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o same_o aught_o to_o be_v serious_o consider_v by_o all_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o woman_n reasonable_a soul_n above_o the_o beast_n but_o take_v with_o reference_n to_o the_o resemblance_n here_o mention_v that_o man_n be_v neither_o exeme_v from_o several_a outward_a event_n nor_o from_o death_n itself_o it_o have_v a_o clear_a truth_n in_o it_o man_n have_v no_o preeminence_n in_o these_o and_o such_o as_o these_o above_o the_o beast_n 11._o when_o the_o emptiness_n of_o all_o create_a thing_n and_o humane_a endeavour_n about_o they_o in_o regard_n of_o any_o true_a contentment_n they_o can_v afford_v to_o a_o man_n spirit_n and_o their_o insufficiency_n to_o make_v he_o be_v that_o there_o be_v many_o thing_n in_o his_o dispensation_n cross_v and_o contrary_a to_o man_n will_n which_o serve_v not_o so_o direct_o for_o further_a his_o imaginary_a happiness_n in_o this_o earth_n as_o he_o will_v such_o as_o the_o oppression_n former_o speak_v of_o and_o yet_o say_v he_o they_o can_v be_v make_v straight_o they_o can_v by_o man_n wit_n or_o power_n be_v alter_v or_o be_v make_v more_o subservient_fw-fr to_o his_o end_n and_o therefore_o they_o deserve_v his_o serious_a consideration_n the_o next_o direction_n be_v infer_v upon_o this_o reason_n that_o man_n will_v study_v to_o be_v suitable_o affect_v to_o the_o lord_n be_v various_a dispensation_n which_o he_o instance_n in_o two_o prosperity_n and_o adversity_n comprehend_v all_o other_o and_o show_v the_o prime_a exercise_n which_o these_o dispensation_n call_v man_n unto_o in_o prosperity_n say_v he_o be_v joyful_a he_o mean_v spiritual_a cheerfulness_n and_o thankfulness_n to_o god_n when_o thing_n go_v well_o and_o in_o adversity_n he_o do_v not_o press_v that_o which_o it_o contrary_a to_o joy_n but_o that_o which_o man_n be_v often_o then_o most_o indispose_v for_o namely_o the_o serious_a consideration_n of_o the_o lord_n mind_n and_o what_o use_n they_o ought_v to_o make_v of_o that_o case_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v that_o god_n have_v so_o wise_o interweave_v these_o two_o and_o make_v they_o to_o succeed_v one_o to_o another_o in_o the_o life_n of_o man_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o find_v out_o any_o near_a way_n to_o his_o own_o happiness_n than_o by_o behave_v himself_o suitable_o to_o and_o make_v that_o use_n of_o these_o dispensation_n which_o god_n in_o his_o word_n require_v of_o he_o he_o shall_v find_v nothing_o which_o if_o his_o counsel_n have_v be_v take_v may_v have_v be_v better_o do_v nor_o can_v he_o in_o reason_n imagine_v that_o any_o thing_n will_v be_v more_o conducible_a for_o god_n glory_n and_o man_n happiness_n than_o the_o dispensation_n of_o god_n as_o they_o be_v order_v by_o he_o and_o therefore_o he_o shall_v submit_v unto_o and_o carry_v himself_o as_o god_n require_v under_o they_o hence_o learn_v 1._o there_o be_v not_o any_o work_n of_o god_n providence_n in_o the_o world_n which_o do_v not_o deserve_v man_n most_o serious_a thought_n to_o be_v take_v up_o with_o it_o every_o one_o of_o they_o impossible_a for_o the_o wit_n or_o power_n of_o creature_n to_o rectify_v or_o change_v in_o the_o least_o what_o he_o do_v if_o he_o cross_v man_n interprise_n by_o sea_n or_o land_n it_o be_v a_o folly_n for_o they_o to_o think_v by_o themselves_o to_o repair_v their_o loss_n if_o he_o break_v the_o leg_n and_o arm_n of_o state_n and_o commonwealth_n and_o make_v they_o halt_v all_o the_o earth_n without_o he_o can_v make_v they_o go_v straight_o again_o if_o he_o leave_v any_o to_o the_o crookedness_n or_o perversity_n of_o their_o own_o nature_n for_o he_o may_v be_v say_v to_o make_v crooked_a as_o he_o be_v say_v to_o harden_n man_n heart_n neither_o angel_n nor_o man_n can_v rectify_v the_o same_o the_o consideration_n whereof_o serve_v to_o quiet_v our_o heart_n and_o make_v we_o submissive_a to_o his_o work_v for_o to_o these_o and_o many_o other_o thing_n of_o that_o sort_n may_v this_o be_v apply_v as_o a_o reason_n to_o make_v man_n submissive_a to_o his_o and_o against_o what_o he_o be_v apt_a to_o apprehend_v shall_v be_v and_o so_o must_v vex_v himself_o with_o his_o own_o apprehension_n and_o it_o be_v the_o comfortable_a privilege_n and_o whereof_o no_o man_n can_v know_v the_o time_n and_o may_v be_v take_v with_o a_o special_a reference_n to_o the_o forego_n purpose_n as_o a_o argument_n to_o dissuade_v man_n from_o rashness_n in_o hazard_v themselves_o under_o the_o stroke_n of_o humane_a justice_n from_o magistrate_n and_o to_o move_v they_o for_o that_o end_n to_o keep_v themselves_o within_o the_o bound_n of_o their_o duty_n no_o arrow_n to_o shoot_v at_o death_n or_o there_o be_v no_o dimission_n of_o this_o charge_n no_o forelose_a as_o the_o common_a word_n be_v to_o shift_v this_o combat_n which_o man_n must_v have_v with_o death_n thus_o he_o set_v out_o the_o necessity_n of_o it_o and_o man_n impotency_n to_o shift_v it_o and_o because_o wicked_a man_n who_o by_o many_o sinful_a shift_n put_v by_o hazard_n yea_o death_n itself_o for_o a_o time_n which_o as_o they_o think_v will_v have_v come_v if_o they_o have_v not_o follow_v these_o course_n do_v think_v themselves_o in_o a_o manner_n in_o covenant_n with_o under_o the_o sun_n he_o speak_v of_o the_o motion_n of_o his_o mind_n in_o term_n borrow_v from_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o body_n he_o draw_v his_o thought_n a_o little_a from_o other_o consideration_n former_o mention_v and_o apply_v they_o to_o the_o frequent_a disappointment_n which_o man_n meet_v with_o in_o the_o carriage_n of_o their_o affair_n next_o he_o give_v five_o instance_n of_o these_o disappointment_n which_o he_o have_v observe_v befalling_a man_n best_o fit_v for_o success_n which_o instance_n though_o they_o have_v a_o truth_n very_o remarkable_a in_o and_o scripture_n also_o john_n 20_o 4._o 2_o sam._n 13.14_o but_o the_o meaning_n be_v that_o there_o be_v frequent_a proof_n of_o these_o that_o man_n with_o most_o promise_a qualification_n fall_v short_a of_o desire_a success_n yea_o even_o of_o thing_n necessary_a for_o the_o sustenance_n of_o their_o natural_a life_n so_o that_o often_o their_o wit_n can_v so_o much_o as_o get_v they_o bread_n that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v teach_v dependence_n upon_o a_o superior_a overrule_a providence_n which_o must_v concur_v with_o a_o blessing_n else_o their_o great_a endeavour_n and_o promise_a appearance_n of_o success_n will_v fall_v short_a of_o the_o desire_a and_o intend_a effect_n three_o he_o give_v a_o twofold_a cause_n of_o these_o disappointment_n the_o one_o be_v without_o man_n to_o wit_n the_o secret_a powerful_a providence_n of_o god_n for_o say_v he_o time_n and_o chance_n happen_v to_o they_o all_o the_o time_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v the_o fit_a
