change_n in_o we_o and_o to_o cause_n and_o enable_v we_o to_o yield_v obedience_n to_o god_n and_o to_o his_o word_n even_o in_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v most_o hard_a and_o difficult_a in_o such_o as_o be_v contrary_a to_o nature_n etc._n etc._n as_o in_o deny_v ourselves_o and_o take_v up_o our_o cross_n to_o follow_v christ_n in_o renounce_v the_o world_n and_o love_n of_o earthly_a thing_n in_o forsake_v all_o we_o have_v in_o heart_n and_o affection_n for_o christ_n sake_n and_o the_o gospel_n so_o also_o in_o forgive_a our_o enemy_n and_o love_v they_o etc._n etc._n if_o we_o can_v do_v these_o thing_n in_o some_o measure_n it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o the_o effectual_a call_v of_o god_n be_v wrought_v in_o we_o otherwise_o not_o for_o it_o be_v a_o powerful_a call_v which_o be_v wrought_v not_o only_o by_o his_o word_n and_o the_o ministry_n of_o it_o but_o chief_o by_o his_o divine_a spirit_n which_o do_v powerful_o change_v the_o heart_n yea_o create_v a_o new_a heart_n in_o we_o and_o give_v we_o a_o new_a life_n and_o new_a spiritual_a strength_n enable_v we_o to_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o before_o we_o can_v not_o do_v observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o from_o the_o to_o show_v unto_o other_o be_v true_o religious_a though_o they_o be_v not_o of_o our_o kindred_n neither_o be_v we_o to_o countenance_v our_o profane_a irreligious_a kindred_n in_o their_o sin_n but_o to_o discountenance_v they_o rather_o and_o to_o admonish_v and_o reprove_v they_o for_o the_o same_o so_o far_o as_o our_o call_v reach_v again_o though_o we_o may_v carry_v a_o special_a affection_n to_o our_o religious_a kindred_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o be_v religious_a yet_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n we_o do_v not_o love_v or_o like_a of_o their_o infirmity_n and_o corruption_n nor_o slatter_v they_o therein_o but_o rather_o to_o show_v our_o dislike_n of_o they_o by_o admonish_v they_o in_o christian_a manner_n so_o much_o of_o the_o second_o effect_n of_o our_o saviour_n preach_v at_o nazareth_n namely_o their_o reason_n and_o question_v about_o his_o doctrine_n and_o miracle_n and_o about_o the_o outward_a meanness_n of_o his_o person_n now_o follow_v the_o three_o and_o last_o effect_n that_o they_o be_v offend_v at_o he_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d signify_v proper_o to_o stumble_v at_o any_o thing_n that_o lie_v in_o our_o way_n where_o we_o be_v to_o go_v and_o so_o by_o it_o to_o be_v stop_v and_o hinder_v in_o our_o go_n or_o walk_v in_o that_o way_n this_o the_o evangelist_n appli_v to_o the_o nazarite_n show_v that_o they_o stumble_v or_o take_v offence_n at_o the_o outward_a meanness_n of_o christ_n person_n in_o regard_n of_o his_o education_n birth_n and_o kindred_n take_v occasion_n from_o thence_o to_o contemn_v and_o reject_v he_o and_o his_o doctrine_n and_o so_o by_o this_o outward_a meanness_n of_o christ_n education_n birth_n and_o kindred_n as_o by_o a_o stumble_a block_n in_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n they_o be_v hinder_v from_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o embrace_v his_o doctrine_n observe_v observe_v hence_o than_o we_o may_v learn_v that_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o profane_a and_o carnal_a man_n to_o take_v occasion_n from_o the_o outward_a quality_n and_o condition_n of_o god_n faithful_a messenger_n to_o contemn_v and_o reject_v the_o message_n which_o they_o bring_v and_o the_o doctrine_n which_o they_o teach_v so_o do_v these_o profane_a people_n of_o nazareth_n take_v occasion_n from_o christ_n mean_a education_n parentage_n and_o kindred_n to_o contemn_v and_o reject_v his_o doctrine_n though_o it_o be_v most_o excellent_a as_o themselves_o be_v drive_v to_o confess_v so_o also_o they_o do_v at_o another_o time_n before_o when_o he_o come_v and_o preach_v to_o they_o luke_n 4._o 22._o so_o also_o the_o jew_n joh._n 7._o 15._o have_v hear_v he_o preach_v yet_o when_o they_o consider_v his_o mean_a education_n be_v not_o bring_v up_o to_o learning_n they_o marvel_v at_o the_o matter_n and_o thence_o take_v occasion_n to_o reject_v his_o doctrine_n see_v also_o act._n 4._o 13._o the_o mean_a outward_a condition_n of_o god_n faithful_a minister_n iâ—_n often_o as_o a_o stumble_a block_n at_o which_o the_o world_n and_o carnal_a man_n take_v offence_n be_v move_v thereby_o to_o contemn_v their_o doctrine_n and_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n itself_o and_o so_o be_v hinder_v from_o believe_v and_o embrace_v it_o to_o salvation_n reason_n reas_n they_o judge_v of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o word_n and_o of_o the_o ministry_n of_o it_o according_a to_o the_o outward_a appearance_n of_o the_o person_n that_o preach_v it_o look_v more_o at_o the_o person_n of_o the_o messenger_n then_o at_o the_o message_n itself_o and_o therefore_o when_o they_o see_v the_o minister_n of_o god_n to_o be_v but_o ordinary_a man_n like_o themselves_o in_o regard_n of_o outward_a quality_n and_o condition_n as_o education_n birth_n parentage_n kindred_n wealth_n etc._n
etc._n they_o hence_o take_v occasion_n to_o contemn_v and_o reject_v the_o doctrine_n itself_o which_o they_o teach_v and_o this_o be_v one_o great_a and_o main_a cause_n of_o the_o contempt_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o of_o so_o little_a profit_v by_o it_o in_o these_o our_o day_n use_v use_v take_v heed_n we_o be_v not_o in_o this_o like_a unto_o the_o profane_a and_o wicked_a beware_v of_o stumble_v thus_o at_o the_o outward_a quality_n or_o condition_n of_o the_o person_n of_o god_n minister_n send_v unto_o we_o with_o the_o word_n of_o salvation_n let_v not_o this_o be_v as_o a_o block_n in_o our_o way_n to_o hinder_v and_o keep_v we_o from_o believe_v and_o embrace_v the_o doctrine_n itself_o which_o they_o bring_v to_o we_o therefore_o let_v we_o turn_v our_o eye_n from_o quality_n of_o the_o person_n that_o preach_v as_o to_o the_o doctrine_n itself_o which_o they_o deliver_v the_o excellency_n and_o divine_a authority_n whereof_o must_v move_v we_o to_o embrace_v in_o a_o more_o large_a sense_n for_o any_o ordinary_a teacher_n or_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n lawful_o call_v to_o that_o office_n either_o immediate_o of_o god_n or_o mediate_o by_o the_o church_n act._n 15._o 32._o judas_n and_o silas_n be_v call_v prophet_n that_o be_v minister_n or_o teacher_n of_o the_o church_n so_o also_o we_o be_v to_o take_v the_o word_n 1_o cor._n 14._o 32._o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o prophet_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o prophet_n be_v not_o without_o honour_n is_n not_o contemn_v and_o vilify_v or_o dishonour_v but_o in_o his_o own_o country_n in_o the_o place_n where_o he_o have_v be_v bear_v or_o bring_v up_o and_o live_v in_o his_o own_o house_n that_o be_v in_o his_o own_o family_n or_o among_o those_o of_o his_o natural_a stock_n or_o lineage_n often_o come_v to_o pass_v as_o experience_n show_v and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n sometime_o a_o minister_n of_o god_n may_v be_v well_o respect_v and_o honour_v even_o in_o his_o own_o country_n and_o among_o his_o kindred_n and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o our_o saviour_n himself_o for_o although_o the_o most_o of_o these_o nazarite_n his_o countryman_n do_v take_v offence_n at_o he_o yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o against_o it_o but_o that_o we_o may_v think_v some_o few_o of_o they_o at_o least_o do_v well_o respect_n he_o and_o his_o doctrine_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o which_o be_v the_o more_o probable_a because_o it_o be_v say_v verse_n 5._o that_o he_o wrought_v some_o miracle_n among_o they_o which_o it_o be_v likely_a he_o do_v for_o their_o sake_n who_o do_v honour_v he_o and_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o though_o some_o of_o his_o kindred_n also_o do_v not_o so_o honour_v he_o as_o they_o shall_v as_o we_o hear_v chap._n 3._o 21._o where_o they_o say_v of_o he_o that_o he_o be_v beside_o himself_o yet_o other_o of_o they_o do_v true_o honour_v he_o and_o believe_v in_o he_o as_o those_o kinsman_n of_o his_o mention_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n james_n joses_n etc._n etc._n therefore_o our_o saviour_n meaning_n here_o be_v to_o show_v not_o what_o come_v always_o to_o pass_v but_o what_o most_o usual_o fall_v out_o to_o the_o teacher_n of_o the_o church_n that_o for_o the_o most_o part_n they_o be_v not_o so_o much_o contemn_v among_o any_o as_o among_o their_o own_o countryman_n kindred_n etc._n etc._n so_o much_o of_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n doctr._fw-la 1_o doctr._fw-la 1._o here_o than_o we_o learn_v that_o good_a and_o faithful_a minister_n of_o god_n be_v usual_o most_o subject_a to_o contempt_n and_o dishonour_n in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o be_v most_o familiar_o know_v as_o among_o their_o own_o countryman_n kindred_n or_o those_o of_o their_o own_o family_n our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v experience_n of_o this_o for_o he_o be_v not_o where_o so_o little_o regard_v nor_o so_o much_o vilify_v as_o among_o his_o own_o countryman_n of_o nazareth_n as_o we_o see_v here_o and_o luke_n 4._o though_o he_o come_v twice_o to_o preach_v unto_o they_o yet_o both_o time_n he_o be_v reject_v of_o they_o and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o they_o thrust_v he_o out_o of_o their_o city_n the_o first_o time_n he_o come_v and_o will_v have_v throw_v he_o headlong_o down_o the_o hill_n on_o which_o the_o city_n stand_v luke_n 4._o 29._o and_o as_o his_o countryman_n so_o also_o some_o of_o his_o kindred_n be_v apt_a to_o dishonour_v he_o as_o may_v appear_v both_o by_o this_o place_n and_o also_o mark_v 3._o 21._o &_o joh._n 7._o 5._o in_o which_o respect_n that_o may_v be_v true_o say_v of_o he_o joh._n 1._o 11._o he_o come_v unto_o his_o own_o and_o his_o own_o receive_v he_o not_o and_o this_o also_o we_o may_v see_v in_o some_o other_o prophet_n and_o minister_n of_o god_n
