himself_o now_o as_o these_o thing_n hitherto_o have_v be_v utter_v for_o direction_n so_o some_o thing_n also_o be_v to_o be_v annex_v partly_o out_o of_o that_o which_o go_v before_o and_o partly_o over_o and_o beside_o the_o same_o to_o instruct_v and_o teach_v the_o man_n in_o conscience_n trouble_v and_o disquiet_v with_o the_o weakness_n of_o repentance_n and_o the_o manifold_a imperfection_n which_o he_o find_v in_o himself_o how_o he_o may_v use_v and_o demean_v himself_o in_o view_n and_o meditation_n of_o they_o and_o that_o he_o may_v do_v it_o with_o great_a comfort_n &_o less_o distrust_n first_o therefore_o i_o will_v wish_v and_o advise_v such_o a_o man_n not_o to_o pass_v over_o every_o thing_n light_o in_o a_o slight_a manner_n trial_n not_o rest_n in_o fear_n without_o due_a trial_n without_o a_o due_a and_o deliberate_a consideration_n as_o be_v the_o common_a use_n of_o the_o sorrowful_a soul_n but_o rather_o to_o grow_v to_o a_o thorough_a trial_n and_o examination_n of_o himself_o for_o oftentimes_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o for_o want_v hereof_o there_o arise_v many_o great_a discomfort_n unto_o man_n when_o man_n either_o utter_o refuse_v or_o else_o by_o reason_n of_o some_o light_a cause_n defer_v the_o matter_n do_v not_o search_v so_o deep_o into_o themselves_o as_o they_o shall_v and_o so_o through_o this_o default_n they_o do_v bereave_v themselves_o of_o the_o sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o those_o good_a motion_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o comfort_n thereof_o come_v which_o other_o man_n do_v enjoy_v and_o in_o this_o point_n it_o fall_v out_o with_o man_n refuse_v or_o delay_v to_o make_v this_o trial_n as_o it_o do_v with_o a_o man_n disease_v with_o a_o sore_n and_o grievous_a imposthume_n who_o if_o he_o do_v look_v only_o upon_o the_o outward_a appearance_n find_v nothing_o but_o such_o matter_n as_o still_o threaten_v grief_n and_o anguish_n but_o if_o he_o pierce_v into_o it_o and_o lance_n it_o feel_v the_o accuser_n and_o in_o this_o the_o conscience_n be_v as_o a_o judge_n the_o silly_a soul_n now_o as_o a_o offender_n in_o woeful_a case_n stand_v at_o the_o bar_n hold_v up_o the_o hand_n to_o be_v try_v and_o find_v either_o guilty_a or_o not_o guilty_a this_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o silly_a soul_n be_v no_o doubt_n the_o principal_a part_n of_o man_n and_o most_o to_o be_v account_v of_o as_o a_o most_o precious_a jewel_n for_o although_o a_o man_n have_v never_o so_o great_a abundance_n of_o earthly_a treasure_n yet_o be_v it_o nothing_o in_o comparison_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o to_o gain_v and_o get_v the_o whole_a world_n it_o profit_v not_o at_o all_o to_o a_o man_n 9.25_o luk._n 9.25_o if_o he_o lose_v his_o own_o soul_n and_o therefore_o though_o our_o post_a and_o of_o god_n against_o these_o so_o malicious_a and_o envious_a accuser_n advocate_n i'faith_o his_o advocate_n still_o urge_v the_o heinousness_n of_o thy_o iniquity_n faith_n as_o a_o wise_a and_o prudent_a advocate_n stand_v to_o plead_v the_o cause_n who_o although_o she_o always_o tell_v the_o truth_n and_o speak_v with_o great_a comfort_n yet_o be_v she_o oftentimes_o so_o shoulder_v out_o otherwise_o affect_v towards_o we_o than_o even_o thou_o thyself_o be_v affect_v towards_o thy_o own_o child_n who_o thou_o most_o tender_o love_v and_o in_o who_o thou_o take_v some_o great_a pleasure_n if_o this_o thy_o child_n have_v some_o grievous_a sore_n or_o wound_v inflict_v upon_o he_o which_o by_o none_o other_o cunning_a of_o physic_n can_v be_v cure_v but_o by_o the_o daily_o apply_v of_o some_o sharp_a and_o bite_a medicine_n thereunto_o if_o the_o child_n torment_v with_o this_o physic_n shall_v cry_v unto_o thou_o make_v pitiful_a moan_n and_o plaint_n and_o that_o consideration_n of_o the_o motive_n cause_n in_o god_n of_o these_o affliction_n and_o that_o be_v love_n and_o mercy_n which_o he_o bear_v unto_o these_o his_o servant_n who_o he_o do_v vouchsafe_v thus_o to_o afflict_v and_o chasten_v for_o this_o serve_v if_o it_o be_v well_o consider_v as_o a_o rein_n to_o hold_v back_o and_o restrain_v the_o violence_n of_o despair_a thought_n when_o as_o we_o call_v to_o mind_n and_o remember_v that_o he_o that_o lay_v and_o inflict_v these_o thing_n upon_o we_o be_v love_o affect_v and_o dispose_v towards_o we_o and_o therefore_o will_v sure_o choose_a vessel_n and_o a_o elect_a child_n of_o god_n be_v it_o likely_a think_v thou_o that_o he_o that_o be_v unregenerate_a and_o abide_v still_o in_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o flesh_n and_o take_v a_o pleasure_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o filthy_a lust_n thereof_o shall_v take_v such_o joy_n and_o solace_n in_o the_o spirit_n as_o that_o he_o can_v not_o tolerate_v or_o abide_v to_o have_v sickness_n than_o the_o child_n shall_v we_o now_o say_v that_o the_o child_n be_v strong_a than_o the_o man_n because_o he_o first_o recover_v or_o will_v you_o not_o rather_o say_v that_o the_o disease_n be_v not_o in_o like_a measure_n in_o both_o but_o in_o the_o child_n in_o a_o lesser_a quantity_n in_o that_o by_o so_o little_a strength_n he_o be_v so_o quick_o recover_v and_o in_o the_o other_o in_o great_a measure_n in_o that_o the_o great_a strength_n notwithstanding_o he_o can_v not_o in_o long_a time_n be_v cure_v the_o reason_n be_v like_a be_v therefore_o the_o assault_n less_o and_o of_o short_a continuance_n thy_o faith_n then_o may_v with_o more_o case_n and_o in_o short_a time_n overcome_v it_o though_o it_o be_v but_o weak_a and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n be_v the_o assault_n strong_a and_o of_o long_a time_n continue_v shrink_v not_o at_o the_o matter_n neither_o be_v thou_o any_o whit_n dismay_v or_o discourage_v therefore_o for_o albeit_o thy_o faith_n be_v think_v that_o encounter_v with_o great_a assault_n and_o not_o able_a at_o the_o first_o to_o overcome_v they_o that_o therefore_o thy_o faith_n be_v weak_a and_o feeble_a but_o the_o case_n be_v otherwise_o for_o great_a temptation_n do_v import_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n for_o god_n say_v the_o apostle_n as_o be_v before_o allege_v tempt_v none_o above_o measure_n and_o above_o that_o which_o he_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v and_o therefore_o as_o god_n measure_v our_o temptation_n according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o our_o faith_n chain_a and_o muzzle_v up_o the_o tempter_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o have_v his_o full_a swinge_n against_o we_o and_o minister_a strength_n unto_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o resist_v the_o same_o so_o we_o again_o by_o the_o measure_n of_o our_o temptation_n and_o assault_n may_v learn_v the_o measure_n of_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v bestow_v upon_o us._n for_o faith_n be_v never_o so_o well_o try_v in_o her_o strength_n as_o in_o the_o time_n of_o temptation_n for_o which_o cause_n also_o they_o be_v call_v the_o trial_n of_o faith_n thus_o than_o a_o man_n may_v reason_v with_o thou_o be_v thy_o temptation_n great_a thy_o faith_n then_o be_v also_o great_a for_o otherwise_o god_n will_v never_o have_v lay_v so_o great_a a_o trial_n on_o thou_o unless_o he_o have_v know_v thou_o by_o his_o grace_n to_o be_v enable_v to_o endure_v it_o and_o again_o on_o the_o contrary_a thy_o temptation_n be_v small_a shall_v i_o therefore_o infer_v and_o say_v thy_o faith_n be_v also_o weak_a i_o dare_v not_o so_o reason_n because_o i_o know_v the_o case_n be_v otherwise_o for_o the_o great_a faith_n many_o time_n shall_v find_v small_a as_o well_o as_o great_a temptation_n repentance_n 3._o he_o must_v not_o so_o much_o consider_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o measure_n as_o the_o truth_n of_o his_o repentance_n &_o that_o with_o good_a advice_n what_o the_o thing_n be_v whereat_o we_o do_v aim_n and_o which_o we_o labour_v especial_o to_o search_v after_o and_o to_o find_v out_o in_o this_o trial_n and_o examination_n for_o even_o in_o this_o point_n also_o there_o be_v oftentimes_o error_n find_v by_o reason_n whereof_o among_o man_n there_o arise_v no_o small_a inconvenience_n the_o thing_n therefore_o that_o herein_o we_o be_v to_o have_v a_o special_a eye_n unto_o be_v not_o the_o great_a measure_n and_o quantity_n but_o rather_o the_o truth_n of_o repentance_n for_o although_o it_o be_v never_o so_o slender_a and_o weak_a in_o our_o conceit_n yet_o if_o it_o be_v true_a and_o from_o the_o heart_n we_o shall_v thereby_o find_v even_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o sorrow_n sufficient_a cause_n of_o great_a and_o exceed_a comfort_n it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o spirit_n sometime_o may_v appear_v unto_o we_o to_o be_v as_o you_o will_v say_v but_o very_o weak_a in_o work_v and_o faith_n also_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v faint_a and_o feeble_a in_o show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o true_a repentance_n in_o such_o abundant_a and_o plentiful_a manner_n as_o thou_o haply_o do_v dream_v of_o yet_o do_v not_o this_o let_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o but_o that_o both_o thy_o faith_n and_o thy_o repentance_n may_v be_v true_a and_o therefore_o such_o whereupon_o thou_o may_v settle_v and_o ground_n thyself_o and_o whereby_o thou_o may_v assure_v thyself_o that_o thou_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o if_o his_o child_n then_o sure_o free_v from_o condemnation_n and_o make_v a_o heir_n even_o a_o coheyre_n with_o christ_n our_o head_n of_o thou_o find_v never_o so_o great_a imperfection_n in_o this_o thy_o repentance_n so_o that_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v craze_v like_o a_o break_a reed_n and_o almost_o extinguish_v as_o the_o flax_n that_o do_v but_o sinoke_n yet_o herein_o be_v there_o no_o cause_n of_o discomfort_n first_o for_o that_o as_o faith_n so_o likewise_o true_a repentance_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n who_o be_v not_o to_o be_v prescribe_v and_o appoint_v in_o what_o mcasure_n he_o shall_v give_v the_o same_o to_o every_o one_o and_o second_o for_o that_o it_o please_v he_o to_o be_v so_o gracious_a and_o favourable_a as_o to_o accept_v these_o imperfection_n in_o good_a part_n at_o thy_o hand_n for_o the_o which_o thou_o be_v not_o only_o to_o be_v thankful_a to_o he_o at_o all_o time_n but_o have_v nature_n subject_a to_o all_o kind_n of_o infirmity_n as_o well_o as_o other_o during_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o continuance_n in_o this_o corrupt_a tabernacle_n do_v not_o deceive_v thyself_o but_o be_v thou_o assure_v that_o thy_o flesh_n will_v never_o give_v over_o but_o still_o will_v be_v find_v to_o be_v a_o flesh_n that_o be_v a_o rebellious_a and_o a_o grievous_a enemy_n continual_o rebel_a contend_v and_o strive_v against_o the_o spirit_n until_o such_o time_n as_o it_o shall_v by_o god_n appointment_n either_o receive_v the_o stroke_n of_o death_n to_o subdue_v it_o and_o put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o rebellion_n thereof_o or_o that_o wonderful_a and_o sudden_a change_n be_v make_v at_o the_o last_o day_n 15.53_o 1._o cor._n 15.53_o when_o this_o corruptible_a shall_v put_v if_o thou_o live_v never_o so_o holy_o if_o thou_o lead_v as_o pure_a a_o life_n as_o ever_o do_v any_o of_o the_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n that_o have_v be_v since_o the_o fall_n of_o adam_n christ_n jesus_n only_o except_v yet_o as_o those_o faithful_a servant_n can_v never_o find_v salvation_n in_o their_o own_o deed_n but_o do_v clean_o forsake_v themselves_o and_o cleave_v fast_o to_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n so_o thou_o also_o although_o thou_o seek_v it_o shall_v never_o find_v salvation_n in_o thy_o own_o work_n &_o merit_v thereof_o but_o must_v be_v content_a with_o the_o godly_a to_o renounce_v thyself_o and_o lean_v fast_o to_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n in_o who_o sure_o thou_o must_v seek_v it_o in_o seek_v thou_o shall_v find_v it_o and_o find_v thou_o shall_v doubtless_o possess_v it_o quest_n whereunto_o then_o will_v thou_o say_v do_v serve_v the_o fruit_n of_o repentance_n answ_n no_o doubt_n to_o very_o good_a and_o comfortable_a he_o strive_v to_o subvert_v and_o overturn_v all_o and_o teach_v we_o to_o abuse_v these_o thing_n to_o a_o contrary_a purpose_n and_o to_o gather_v despair_n of_o that_o which_o god_n use_v in_o some_o sort_n to_o teach_v we_o faith_n viz._n that_o fail_v in_o ourselves_o we_o may_v have_v faith_n in_o christ_n and_o find_v ourselves_o so_o unable_a to_o perform_v the_o law_n and_o purchase_v life_n we_o may_v the_o more_o earnest_o have_v recourse_n unto_o that_o sure_a anchor_n of_o our_o hope_n which_o be_v christ_n jesus_n 1.30_o 1._o cor._n 1.30_o who_o the_o father_n have_v make_v to_o be_v unto_o we_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n and_o sanctification_n and_o redemption_n eight_o unto_o all_o these_o add_v and_o annex_v as_o a_o daily_a and_o continual_a companion_n that_o as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o whatsoever_o shall_v be_v most_o behooveful_a for_o his_o glory_n first_o and_o then_o for_o the_o help_n and_o case_n of_o thy_o necessity_n in_o due_a time_n shall_v be_v accomplish_v and_o fulfil_v chap._n xv._o against_o affliction_n and_o outward_a event_n as_o the_o outward_a thing_n which_o happen_v unto_o we_o both_o in_o our_o body_n name_n and_o then_o to_o make_v a_o end_n but_o in_o those_o thing_n whereof_o we_o be_v to_o entreat_v that_o they_o may_v be_v fit_a and_o appliable_a for_o our_o present_a purpose_n and_o cause_n we_o have_v in_o hand_n it_o be_v very_o necessary_a to_o consider_v how_o the_o break_a and_o afflict_a conscience_n use_v these_o affliction_n as_o a_o matter_n of_o great_a discomfort_n and_o upon_o what_o ground_n especial_o his_o despair_a conclusion_n do_v take_v their_o force_n and_o that_o i_o find_v to_o be_v in_o these_o two_o thing_n the_o first_o be_v from_o the_o original_n of_o these_o affliction_n which_o this_o person_n afflict_v false_o think_v and_o indge_v to_o be_v the_o anger_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n conceive_v against_o he_o upon_o this_o false_a ground_n infer_v and_o that_o very_o peremptory_o that_o he_o be_v without_o the_o love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o none_o of_o his_o elect_a child_n the_o second_o be_v bring_v from_o the_o misconsiruction_n of_o the_o nature_n and_o property_n of_o these_o affliction_n think_v they_o to_o be_v judgement_n and_o punishment_n only_o incident_a and_o befalling_a to_o the_o wicked_a whereas_o they_o be_v very_o common_o find_v to_o be_v rather_o correction_n and_o chastizement_n inflict_v and_o lay_v oftentimes_o even_o upon_o god_n best_a and_o dear_a child_n and_o that_o not_o for_o their_o evil_n in_o any_o respect_n but_o only_o for_o their_o good_a now_o to_o help_v they_o forward_o in_o these_o two_o point_n through_o satan_n subtlety_n there_o do_v concur_v also_o the_o continuance_n &_o exceed_a measure_n of_o the_o affliction_n which_o he_o use_v as_o a_o violent_a stream_n to_o drive_v he_o forward_o in_o the_o former_a misconceit_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o as_o he_o suppose_v or_o as_o he_o can_v see_v there_o be_v none_o of_o god_n child_n that_o do_v equal_a and_o match_v he_o in_o the_o extremity_n of_o these_o his_o misery_n or_o else_o because_o he_o judge_v and_o take_v this_o which_o indeed_o be_v not_o to_o be_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o trouble_n of_o the_o righteous_a and_o judgement_n of_o the_o reprobate_n i_o mean_v the_o greatness_n and_o the_o long_a continuance_n of_o the_o afftiction_n for_o the_o better_a satisfy_n of_o such_o person_n and_o for_o the_o reformation_n of_o this_o their_o corrupt_a opinion_n and_o judgement_n i_o purpose_v to_o observe_v and_o keep_v this_o course_n and_o order_n first_o to_o show_v and_o prove_v that_o the_o original_n of_o the_o affliction_n lay_v upon_o god_n child_n be_v not_o hatred_n in_o god_n but_o his_o love_n towards_o those_o that_o be_v afflict_v second_o that_o the_o same_o affliction_n be_v such_o as_o both_o do_v and_o of_o necessity_n must_v befall_v the_o child_n of_o god_n three_o that_o there_o be_v no_o affliction_n wherein_o we_o have_v not_o some_o of_o god_n child_n in_o former_a time_n that_o have_v taste_v as_o deepo_n thereof_o as_o we_o do_v now_o four_o that_o the_o greatness_n and_o continuance_n of_o misery_n be_v not_o a_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o judgement_n of_o reprobate_n in_o this_o life_n and_o the_o correction_n of_o god_n inflict_v on_o his_o choose_a and_o last_o i_o purpose_v to_o add_v certain_a several_a comfort_n out_o of_o the_o book_n of_o god_n against_o this_o so_o dangerous_a a_o temptation_n chap._n xvi_o of_o the_o first_o position_n and_o the_o objection_n against_a the_o same_o concern_v the_o first_o i_o affirm_v same_o 1._o god_n afflict_v not_o his_o child_n in_o hatred_n but_o in_o love_n as_o appear_v 1._o by_o his_o moderate_v the_o same_o that_o if_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n be_v utter_o want_v in_o this_o respect_n yet_o the_o very_a consideration_n of_o affliction_n if_o they_o be_v due_o make_v will_v infer_v no_o less_o than_o i_o have_v already_o set_v down_o viz._n that_o it_o be_v not_o of_o hatred_n but_o love_n that_o move_v god_n especial_o thus_o and_o in_o this_o sort_n to_o deal_v with_o his_o dcare_v child_n for_o first_o see_v and_o consider_v i_o pray_v you_o be_v there_o stay_v in_o wrath_n and_o hatred_n especial_o where_o justice_n may_v take_v place_n and_o bear_v it_o out_o will_v god_n thus_o moderate_a affliction_n as_o he_o do_v and_o in_o such_o gentle_a measure_n on_o we_o as_o he_o do_v if_o he_o do_v hate_v we_o will_v he_o be_v thus_o chary_a and_o careful_a as_o he_o be_v not_o to_o quench_v the_o small_a beginning_n and_o spring_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o confidence_n and_o of_o our_o hope_n in_o he_o or_o if_o it_o be_v in_o hatred_n and_o not_o in_o love_n and_o favour_n towards_o we_o may_v he_o or_o will_v he_o not_o rather_o cut_v and_o break_v asunder_o the_o very_a cable_n of_o our_o trust_n and_o affiance_n that_o so_o we_o may_v utter_o perish_v and_o be_v consume_v with_o cain_n jedas_n inlian_n and_o such_o other_o how_o soever_o you_o do_v judge_v yet_o sure_o i_o suppose_v and_o you_o will_v have_v they_o such_o a_o argument_n and_o a_o token_n of_o hatred_n to_o be_v in_o he_o servant_n by_o his_o afflict_v they_o on_o his_o deareft_a servant_n shall_v we_o think_v that_o he_o will_v ever_o have_v inflict_v the_o same_o upon_o his_o dear_a and_o faithful_a servant_n who_o he_o so_o entire_o love_v as_o be_v in_o the_o scripture_n sufficient_o record_v i_o believe_v xxxii_o of_o the_o effect_n whereby_o the_o truth_n of_o faith_n may_v be_v know_v as_o by_o the_o nature_n effect_n 2._o true_a faith_n know_v by_o the_o effect_n so_o by_o the_o effect_n also_o the_o truth_n of_o faith_n may_v be_v discern_v and_o know_v in_o treat_v whereof_o my_o purpose_n be_v to_o fetch_v the_o ground_n of_o my_o discourse_n from_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n write_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o sift_n chapter_n of_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n 5._o rom._n 5.1_o 2_o 3_o 4_o 5._o where_o we_o read_v in_o this_o manner_n then_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n towards_o god_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n by_o who_o also_o we_o have_v access_n through_o faith_n unto_o his_o grace_n wherein_o we_o stand_v and_o rejoice_v under_o the_o hope_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n neither_o do_v we_o so_o only_o but_o we_o rejoice_v in_o tribulation_n know_v that_o tribulation_n bring_v forth_o patience_n etc._n etc._n unto_o the_o sixth_o verse_n of_o the_o same_o chapter_n in_o which_o word_n the_o apostle_n paul_n as_o we_o may_v plain_o see_v set_v down_o six_o notable_a fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o a_o true_a and_o justify_v faith_n for_o of_o such_o a_o faith_n only_o do_v the_o apostle_n there_o speak_v and_o this_o also_o may_v very_o well_o be_v prove_v and_o confirm_v by_o this_o namely_o that_o these_o fruit_n be_v such_o as_o do_v follow_v those_o that_o be_v justify_v and_o at_o that_o time_n only_o when_o as_o they_o be_v now_o already_o justify_v for_o so_o do_v the_o apostle_n word_n import_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n than_o we_o have_v peace_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o these_o fruit_n and_o effect_n can_v never_o befall_v unto_o a_o counterfeit_n and_o false_a faith_n of_o the_o hypocrite_n and_o therefore_o be_v good_a and_o undoubted_a mark_n and_o token_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v that_o faith_n to_o be_v a_o true_a faith_n and_o those_o to_o have_v a_o lively_a and_o a_o justify_n faith_n in_o who_o they_o do_v appear_v the_o first_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o this_o true_a and_o justify_v faith_n faith_n 1._o fruit_n of_o true_a faith_n be_v peace_n with_o god_n for_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n say_v the_o apostle_n we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n whereby_o be_v mean_v not_o only_o a_o reconcilement_n make_v in_o that_o god_n have_v remit_v and_o forgive_v our_o sin_n but_o also_o a_o inward_a and_o joyful_a sense_n and_o feel_n of_o the_o same_o in_o our_o heart_n and_o soul_n 1._o a_o twofold_a peace_n 1._o there_o be_v in_o the_o scripture_n a_o double_a peace_n from_o god_n set_v set_v down_o the_o one_o be_v that_o reconciliation_n and_o atonement_n wherewith_o god_n be_v pacify_v towards_o we_o and_o this_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o our_o justification_n in_o christ_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n christ_n be_v say_v to_o preach_v peace_n 2.17_o ephes_n 2.17_o to_o they_o that_o be_v afar_o off_o and_o to_o they_o that_o be_v nigh_o and_o this_o be_v that_o peace_n which_o the_o angel_n bring_v news_n of_o unto_o the_o shepherd_n luke_n 2._o saying_n glory_n be_v to_o god_n on_o high_a 2.24.2_o luke_n 2.24.2_o and_o peace_n on_o earth_n the_o other_o peace_n be_v that_o which_o issue_v and_o proceed_v as_o a_o effect_n from_o the_o former_a and_o that_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o feel_n and_o inward_a taste_n and_o assurance_n of_o the_o former_a peace_n and_o reconcilement_n and_o of_o this_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n here_o speak_v conscience_n peace_n of_o conscience_n this_o peace_n be_v common_o call_v the_o peace_n of_o conscience_n for_o the_o conscience_n that_o before_o be_v trouble_v and_o disquiet_v with_o the_o sight_n and_o horror_n of_o sin_n do_v now_o feel_v a_o certain_a peace_n and_o ease_n in_o that_o it_o have_v a_o certain_a taste_n and_o persuasion_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o pardon_n and_o remission_n of_o the_o same_o sin_n in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n of_o this_o manner_n of_o peace_n speak_v our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o the_o fourteen_o of_o john_n my_o peace_n give_v i_o unto_o you_o 4.7_o joh._n 14.27_o phil._n 4.7_o and_o likewise_o the_o apostle_n paul_n phil._n 4.7_o the_o peace_n of_o god_n which_o pass_v all_o understanding_n shall_v preserve_v your_o heart_n and_o mind_n in_o christ_n jesus_n in_o which_o last_o word_n in_o christ_n jesus_n this_o be_v
our_o saviour_n christ_n 12._o mat._n 5.11_o 12._o say_v bless_a be_v you_o when_o man_n revile_v you_o and_o persecute_v you_o and_o say_v all_o manner_n of_o evil_n against_o you_o for_o my_o sake_n but_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o with_o the_o hypocrite_n for_o their_o time_n or_o rather_o untimely_a faith_n in_o stead_n of_o triumph_v and_o rejoice_v as_o one_o find_v fit_a matter_n whereon_o to_o work_v do_v waste_v and_o melt_v away_o at_o the_o heat_n of_o these_o tribulation_n even_o as_o the_o snow_n before_o the_o sun_n well_o it_o may_v appear_v to_o flourish_v awhile_o in_o time_n of_o peace_n and_o to_o shoot_v out_o the_o blade_n but_o when_o the_o parch_a sun_n of_o affliction_n do_v show_v forth_o his_o beam_n when_o the_o time_n of_o persecution_n the_o time_n of_o trial_n be_v come_v it_o than_o fall_v and_o wither_v away_o as_o though_o it_o never_o have_v be_v for_o howsoever_o they_o seem_v to_o approve_v and_o like_v well_o of_o religion_n yet_o do_v they_o not_o delight_v in_o this_o jewel_n that_o will_v cost_v so_o dear_a as_o either_o good_n or_o life_n and_o therefore_o do_v utter_o fall_v and_o shrink_v away_o from_o it_o see_v it_o can_v be_v have_v &_o hold_v without_o such_o trouble_n and_o disquiet_v and_o that_o thou_o may_v the_o better_o know_v and_o discern_v the_o true_a rejoice_v from_o the_o counterfeit_a joy_n of_o hypocrite_n i_o will_v wish_v thou_o to_o consider_v well_o of_o the_o apostle_n word_n before_o recite_v out_o of_o roman_n 5.3_o 4_o 5._o 5._o ro._n 5.3_o 4_o 5._o where_o the_o apostle_n do_v marvellous_o illustrate_v the_o same_o first_o by_o certain_a effect_n which_o proceed_v therefrom_o one_o upon_o anothere_o by_o degree_n and_o second_o from_o the_o special_a cause_n thereof_o the_o effect_n be_v first_o patience_z which_o consist_v in_o quiet_a suffering_n and_o abide_v the_o lord_n correction_n without_o any_o repine_a murmur_a or_o grudge_v against_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o same_o second_o experience_n which_o be_v that_o assurance_n of_o god_n care_n and_o favour_n towards_o they_o in_o their_o affliction_n who_o although_o he_o have_v lay_v the_o same_o upon_o they_o yet_o he_o will_v sustain_v and_o uphold_v they_o so_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o shrink_v or_o fall_v under_o this_o heavy_a burden_n of_o tribulation_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o good_a time_n for_o a_o testimony_n of_o his_o love_n will_v deliver_v they_o three_o from_o these_o arise_v hope_n that_o have_v have_v experience_n of_o god_n love_n heretofore_o in_o deliver_v of_o they_o they_o be_v thereby_o also_o put_v in_o hope_n that_o his_o love_a care_n over_o they_o be_v not_o now_o end_v but_o shall_v still_o be_v continue_v towards_o they_o and_o four_o this_o hope_n bring_v forth_o a_o boldness_n to_o persist_v in_o confidence_n and_o still_o to_o depend_v upon_o he_o without_o shame_n as_o know_v assure_o that_o in_o time_n convenient_a he_o will_v not_o fail_v they_o second_o the_o cause_n or_o foundation_n whereupon_o this_o triumphant_a rejoice_v accompany_v with_o these_o effect_n be_v ground_v be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n spread_v in_o their_o heart_n because_o their_o heart_n and_o soul_n find_v and_o feel_v the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o be_v so_o great_a and_o exceed_a towards_o they_o in_o christ_n jesus_n that_o they_o be_v thereby_o persuade_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o do_v permit_v and_o suffer_v to_o befall_v they_o shall_v by_o god_n work_a turn_n to_o their_o great_a good_a and_o benefit_n strengthen_v themselves_o with_o this_o reason_n of_o the_o apostle_n elsewhere_o allege_v that_o see_v god_n have_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n 8.32_o rom._n 8.32_o but_o give_v he_o for_o we_o all_o to_o death_n how_o shall_v he_o not_o with_o he_o give_v we_o all_o thing_n also_o for_o in_o this_o sort_n and_o after_o this_o order_n by_o this_o fruitful_a meditation_n of_o grace_n in_o christ_n and_o in_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n be_v that_o same_o shed_n and_o spread_v abroad_o of_o god_n love_n towards_o his_o child_n perform_v and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n even_o immediate_o upon_o the_o same_o annex_v the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o passion_n of_o our_o saviour_n 6._o rom._n 5_o 6._o for_o christ_n say_v he_o when_o we_o be_v of_o no_o strength_n at_o his_o time_n die_v for_o the_o ungodly_a the_o five_o effect_n of_o faith_n faith_n the_o five_o effect_n of_o faith_n whereby_o as_o a_o mark_n thereof_o it_o be_v to_o be_v know_v be_v love_n not_o that_o love_n before_o speak_v of_o for_o that_o be_v in_o regard_n of_o we_o a_o passive_a love_n be_v the_o love_n god_n whereby_o he_o love_v us._n but_o this_o love_n whereof_o we_o now_o speak_v be_v active_a in_o regard_n of_o our_o self_n even_o that_o love_n which_o we_o extend_v to_o other_o 5.6_o gal._n 5.6_o for_o faith_n work_v by_o love_n so_o that_o if_o thou_o have_v a_o live_n and_o a_o work_a faith_n thou_o shall_v also_o have_v a_o love_n attend_v on_o it_o for_o else_o it_o can_v work_v at_o all_o now_o this_o love_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o double_a object_n be_v find_v to_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n that_o be_v the_o love_n which_o we_o owe_v unto_o god_n principal_o and_o above_o all_o and_o second_o the_o love_n which_o we_o owe_v &_o aught_o to_o bear_v towards_o our_o neighbour_n and_o these_o two_o kind_n of_o love_n although_o they_o great_o differ_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o yet_o they_o be_v always_o so_o link_v and_o inseparable_o couple_v and_o tie_v together_o that_o they_o can_v in_o any_o wise_a be_v part_v or_o sever_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o for_o how_o can_v he_o say_v john_n 4.20_o 1._o joh._n 4.20_o that_o love_v not_o his_o brother_n who_o he_o have_v see_v love_n god_n who_o he_o have_v not_o see_v and_o again_o this_o commandment_n have_v we_o of_o he_o that_o he_o which_o love_v god_n shall_v love_v his_o brother_n also_o and_o therefore_o the_o same_o apostle_n in_o will_n of_o god_n for_o this_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n say_v john_n that_o we_o keep_v his_o commandment_n and_o also_o will_v be_v careful_a ready_a and_o willing_a to_o thy_o power_n to_o
