who_o suffer_v count_v it_o all_o for_o thou_o it_o be_v all_o to_o hold_v in_o this_o light_n which_o be_v thy_o life_n and_o if_o it_o have_v not_o be_v keep_v and_o entertain_v and_o hold_v up_o cast_v into_o hell_n for_o the_o end_n of_o darkness_n here_o be_v that_o black_a darkness_n in_o hell_n so_o he_o say_v all_o that_o i_o suffer_v be_v for_o you_o well_o if_o man_n think_v that_o the_o suffering_n of_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n which_o they_o suffer_v whether_o it_o be_v band_n banishment_n or_o whatsoever_o it_o be_v if_o they_o can_v think_v that_o all_o be_v for_o they_o to_o hold_v in_o that_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n alas_o they_o will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o that_o that_o the_o band_n and_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v offensive_a to_o they_o and_o so_o be_v offend_v at_o the_o gospel_n that_o by_o the_o contrary_a they_o will_v kiss_v their_o suffering_n and_o will_v take_v as_o great_a pleasure_n in_o their_o band_n as_o in_o their_o preach_n for_o they_o serve_v as_o well_o to_o thy_o weal_n as_o their_o preach_n for_o by_o their_o band_n they_o seal_v up_o in_o thy_o heart_n all_o that_o they_o have_v preach_v to_o thou_o o_o if_o thou_o can_v think_v of_o this_o well_o the_o time_n will_v come_v that_o these_o who_o now_o preach_v shall_v be_v afflict_v and_o lord_n give_v they_o joy_n in_o their_o affliction_n be_v you_o therefore_o reverence_n that_o be_v in_o man_n heart_n towards_o they_o above_o all_o writing_n whatsoever_o with_o sundry_a such_o like_a of_o opinion_n shall_v be_v strong_a in_o we_o to_o detest_v popish_a persuasion_n and_o atheistical_a opinion_n which_o we_o may_v not_o speak_v at_o this_o present_a only_o this_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o if_o we_o feel_v this_o in_o truth_n and_o peace_n it_o will_v effectual_o arm_v we_o against_o papist_n atheist_n and_o other_o corrupter_n some_o not_o only_o deprave_v the_o credit_n of_o the_o word_n and_o bring_v in_o many_o bastardly_a writing_n beside_o to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v equal_v with_o or_o advance_v their_o tradition_n before_o god_n word_n which_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o romish_a catholic_n and_o othersome_a disgrace_n and_o discredit_v the_o same_o that_o they_o may_v persuade_v man_n there_o be_v no_o heaven_n or_o hell_n god_n devil_n word_n etc._n etc._n and_o provoke_v they_o to_o live_v as_o bruit_v beast_n and_o these_o be_v atheist_n but_o both_o lie_n under_o judgement_n the_o first_o for_o their_o gross_a superstition_n and_o idolatry_n and_o the_o latter_a for_o their_o horrible_a blasphemy_n but_o to_o go_v from_o this_o point_n to_o some_o other_o follow_v the_o apostle_n add_v remember_v my_o band_n before_o he_o come_v to_o put_v down_o his_o wish_n or_o prayer_n for_o they_o he_o commend_v unto_o they_o the_o memory_n of_o his_o band_n or_o imprisonment_n which_o he_o suffer_v for_o the_o defence_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o of_o this_o one_o precept_n precept_n three_o respect_v in_o one_o precept_n there_o be_v many_o use_n and_o that_o both_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o paul_n himself_o the_o colossian_n and_o other_o for_o it_o behove_v they_o in_o respect_n of_o paul_n to_o great_a injury_n do_v to_o he_o then_o to_o say_v to_o he_o he_o lie_v this_o tell_v he_o that_o there_o be_v a_o conscience_n within_o he_o that_o abhor_v a_o lie_n and_o that_o it_o be_v unworthy_a of_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n
cause_n thou_o shall_v have_v great_a advantage_n the_o first_o advantage_n be_v thou_o shall_v not_o obey_v thy_o husband_n but_o in_o thing_n lawful_a honest_a agreeable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o another_o this_o be_v no_o single_a obedience_n and_o the_o cause_n be_v for_o as_o much_o as_o thy_o eye_n be_v not_o upon_o the_o lord_n and_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o thou_o can_v be_v sincere_a in_o thy_o do_v except_o thy_o eye_n be_v upon_o the_o lord_n last_o do_v all_o for_o his_o sake_n and_o in_o sincerity_n who_o shall_v reward_v thou_o what_o benefit_n shall_v thou_o get_v shall_v it_o be_v a_o temporal_a thing_n that_o he_o can_v bestow_v upon_o thou_o no_o no_o the_o lord_n jesus_n who_o thou_o prefer_v in_o the_o obey_n of_o thy_o christ_n great_a reward_n for_o that_o be_v holy_a and_o chaste_a not_o a_o harlot_n love_n if_o thou_o have_v a_o harlot_n heart_n thou_o defile_v thyself_o and_o thy_o wife_n both_o these_o be_v the_o three_o property_n of_o this_o love_n first_o it_o be_v a_o deep_a love_n in_o the_o heart_n second_o it_o must_v rest_v only_o on_o thy_o wife_n and_o three_o it_o must_v be_v chaste_a ephes_n 5._o 25._o paul_n say_v husband_n love_v your_o wife_n how_o shall_v you_o love_v they_o he_o say_v as_o christ_n love_v his_o church_n albeit_o he_o can_v attain_v to_o the_o greatness_n and_o quantity_n of_o this_o love_n pre-eminence_n of_o all_o creature_n and_o before_o all_o creature_n the_o first_o argument_n be_v take_v from_o the_o worthiness_n of_o his_o personage_n in_o he_o say_v he_o be_v all_o fullness_n and_o god_n the_o father_n decree_v that_o all_o fullness_n not_o only_o of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n but_o of_o the_o godhead_n itself_o shall_v dwell_v in_o the_o man_n the_o lord_n jesus_n the_o second_o argument_n be_v take_v from_o the_o dignity_n of_o his_o office_n he_o be_v the_o mediator_n by_o who_o reconciliation_n be_v make_v betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n so_o brethren_n this_o day_n by_o god_n grace_n we_o have_v to_o insist_v in_o the_o office_n of_o christ_n mediation_n we_o have_v then_o in_o the_o first_o verse_n a_o description_n of_o the_o mediator_n he_o say_v not_o simple_o he_o be_v the_o mediator_n but_o in_o place_n of_o the_o name_n he_o give_v a_o description_n of_o the_o name_n the_o mediator_n be_v mediator_n the_o office_n of_o the_o mediator_n he_o by_o who_o it_o have_v please_v the_o father_n to_o reconcile_v to_o himself_o all_o thing_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n by_o make_v peace_n through_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o cross_n now_o because_o the_o mediator_n be_v define_v here_o from_o the_o benefit_n of_o our_o reconciliation_n therefore_o we_o shall_v speak_v of_o this_o benefit_n only_o so_o far_o as_o the_o word_n shall_v furnish_v if_o you_o will_v look_v what_o be_v before_o and_o weigh_v the_o word_n of_o this_o text_n you_o shall_v find_v these_o thing_n namely_o to_o be_v consider_v concern_v this_o benefit_n of_o our_o reconciliation_n first_o the_o word_n of_o reconciliation_n what_o it_o mean_v second_o who_o be_v the_o reconciliator_n to_o wit_n the_o father_n three_o who_o move_v he_o to_o reconcile_v all_o thing_n four_o who_o be_v they_o that_o be_v reconcile_v five_o to_o who_o they_o be_v reconcile_v six_o by_o who_o to_o wit_n the_o mediator_n seaventh_o after_o what_o manner_n all_o these_o circumstance_n be_v in_o the_o text_n partly_o before_o and_o partly_o after_o in_o these_o word_n read_v now_o for_o the_o word_n of_o reconciliation_n it_o signify_v agreement_n and_o atonement_n and_o friendship_n make_v betwixt_o two_o party_n that_o be_v at_o variance_n together_o this_o way_n general_o be_v the_o word_n take_v even_o so_o our_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n it_o be_v a_o agreement_n betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o that_o be_v at_o variance_n enmity_n and_o open_a war_n together_o fight_v in_o such_o sort_n as_o never_o two_o contrary_a party_n fight_v together_o when_o we_o be_v enemy_n say_v paul_n rom._n 5._o 10._o we_o be_v reconcile_v by_o the_o death_n of_o his_o son_n yet_o brethren_n the_o word_n import_v more_o not_o only_o it_o import_v a_o agreement_n but_o to_o speak_v it_o so_o it_o import_v a_o reagreement_n and_o a_o renew_n of_o a_o old_a friendship_n between_o two_o that_o first_o be_v friend_n and_o then_o become_v foe_n by_o offence_n do_v against_o the_o other_o party_n even_o so_o our_o reconciliation_n it_o be_v a_o renew_n of_o the_o be_v reconciliation_n what_o it_o be_v old_a friendship_n that_o be_v betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o in_o the_o creation_n and_o because_o thereafter_o we_o offend_v he_o first_o we_o become_v enemy_n to_o he_o and_o through_o sin_n fight_v against_o he_o most_o cruel_o so_o this_o word_n include_v three_o thing_n within_o it_o first_o it_o include_v a_o old_a friendship_n we_o have_v with_o god_n as_o old_a as_o our_o creation_n for_o we_o be_v create_v in_o the_o begin_n friend_n to_o god_n and_o he_o be_v our_o friend_n and_o we_o be_v his_o friend_n second_o it_o import_v a_o variance_n that_o follow_v the_o creation_n and_o that_o by_o our_o foul_a defection_n in_o break_v of_o the_o covenant_n three_o it_o import_v a_o renew_a friendship_n after_o that_o enmity_n and_o that_o by_o the_o mediator_n the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n i_o remember_v paul_n write_v to_o the_o ephesian_n 1._o 10._o he_o have_v a_o word_n that_o he_o call_v recollection_n which_o import_v a_o gather_v together_o of_o they_o that_o be_v scatter_v and_o it_o include_v all_o these_o three_o that_o we_o have_v speak_v of_o reconciliation_n first_o it_o import_v a_o union_n which_o we_o have_v with_o god_n at_o the_o beginning_n second_o that_o after_o there_o be_v a_o scatter_n then_o it_o import_v a_o gather_v together_o of_o we_o by_o the_o mediator_n now_o this_o for_o the_o word_n in_o the_o knowledge_n whereof_o you_o may_v learn_v the_o three_o estate_n of_o man_n from_o the_o beginning_n this_o reconciliation_n unchangeable_a the_o reconciliation_n we_o have_v by_o christ_n be_v unchangeable_a be_v unchangeable_a the_o old_a friendship_n be_v changeable_a we_o become_v his_o enemy_n now_o in_o time_n he_o be_v reconcile_v to_o he_o but_o all_o the_o question_n be_v about_o the_o bless_a angel_n that_o fall_v not_o from_o god_n how_o can_v it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n well_o i_o will_v not_o be_v curious_a if_o you_o will_v consider_v these_o bless_a angel_n in_o themselves_o he_o whether_o the_o elect_a angel_n be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n by_o christ_n or_o what_o benefit_n they_o have_v by_o he_o apart_o from_o the_o body_n which_o be_v the_o church_n indeed_o it_o be_v true_a they_o can_v proper_o be_v say_v to_o be_v reconcile_v because_o they_o be_v never_o at_o feud_n or_o enmity_n with_o god_n for_o reconciliation_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v import_v a_o feud_n but_o if_o you_o consider_v they_o in_o the_o body_n in_o a_o manner_n they_o may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v reconcile_v in_o the_o body_n for_o howbeit_o they_o be_v bind_v up_o without_o the_o body_n yet_o they_o must_v ever_o be_v consider_v to_o be_v in_o the_o body_n and_o so_o in_o the_o body_n they_o get_v a_o new_a conjunction_n with_o god_n through_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n the_o estate_n of_o the_o bless_a angel_n before_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v this_o they_o hang_v as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o head_n to_o speak_v it_o so_o by_o a_o stitch_n as_o certain_a member_n sever_v from_o the_o body_n when_o christ_n come_v in_o he_o ever_o be_v these_o three_o principal_a estate_n and_o rank_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n the_o first_o be_v the_o estate_n of_o husband_n and_o wife_n for_o you_o know_v adam_n ere_o ever_o he_o have_v child_n he_o have_v his_o wife_n the_o next_o after_o estate_n inequality_n in_o all_o estate_n this_o be_v the_o estate_n of_o parent_n and_o child_n and_o then_o by_o process_n of_o time_n there_o become_v some_o master_n and_o some_o servant_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o last_o in_o order_n and_o time_n in_o these_o three_o estate_n all_o be_v not_o equal_a but_o there_o be_v a_o inequality_n some_o be_v superior_n and_o some_o be_v inferior_n the_o superior_n he_o have_v make_v to_o be_v husband_n parent_n and_o master_n the_o inferior_n he_o have_v make_v to_o be_v wife_n child_n and_o servant_n for_o if_o all_o be_v equal_a no_o policy_n can_v stand_v nor_o order_n on_o the_o earth_n but_o a_o confusion_n the_o lord_n who_o be_v only_o wise_a know_v this_o and_o therefore_o it_o please_v he_o to_o dispose_v the_o world_n after_o this_o manner_n so_o that_o a_o policy_n may_v be_v keep_v in_o it_o these_o be_v the_o three_o estate_n the_o scripture_n have_v chief_a respect_n to_o they_o and_o give_v exhortation_n to_o these_o three_o in_o all_o he_o begin_v first_o at_o the_o inferior_n as_o in_o this_o place_n he_o begin_v at_o the_o wife_n and_o in_o this_o subjection_n then_o simple_a obedience_n the_o obedience_n must_v have_v join_v with_o it_o honour_v of_o thy_o husband_n in_o word_n as_o thou_o obeye_v it_o subjection_n of_o wife_n to_o the_o husband_n and_o what_o require_v in_o it_o he_o indeed_o and_o effect_v so_o thou_o must_v honour_v he_o in_o word_n therefore_o in_o that_o same_o place_n it_o be_v say_v that_o sara_n call_v her_o husband_n lord_n yet_o there_o be_v more_o than_o all_o this_o there_o be_v fear_n and_o reverence_n in_o the_o heart_n require_v that_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o paul_n ephes_n 5._o 33._o speak_v express_o of_o this_o look_v that_o the_o wife_n fear_n and_o reverence_v her_o husband_n in_o heart_n so_o then_o there_o be_v this_o subjection_n in_o the_o whole_a part_n thereof_o in_o deed_n it_o be_v obedience_n in_o word_n it_o be_v honour_v of_o he_o in_o heart_n it_o be_v fear_n and_o reverence_n note_n note_n so_o that_o wife_n which_o will_v be_v subject_a to_o her_o husband_n must_v keep_v these_o three_o point_n or_o else_o she_o fail_v in_o subjection_n come_v to_o the_o second_o to_o who_o this_o subjection_n ought_v to_o be_v give_v not_o to_o every_o one_o to_o your_o own_o husband_n this_o subjection_n be_v command_v not_o to_o strange_a man_n but_o to_o your_o own_o husband_n the_o special_a kind_n of_o subjection_n wherein_o stand_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o wife_n to_o the_o husband_n be_v not_o to_o be_v communicate_v with_o any_o other_o man_n it_o be_v true_a the_o male_a kind_n have_v a_o preferment_n above_o the_o female_a it_o have_v honour_n above_o the_o other_o look_v paul_n 1_o tim._n 2._o 13._o 14._o where_o he_o give_v two_o reason_n of_o this_o preferment_n the_o first_o be_v from_o the_o creation_n adam_n be_v first_o create_v and_o then_o eue._n the_o second_o be_v from_o the_o transgression_n the_o woman_n fall_v first_o and_o it_o be_v sure_a first_o in_o sin_n last_o in_o honour_n notwithstanding_o this_o wife_n be_v not_o command_v to_o do_v this_o duty_n to_o every_o man_n but_o to_o their_o own_o husband_n if_o you_o will_v mark_v the_o word_n narrow_o you_o shall_v perceive_v there_o lurk_v a_o argument_n in_o they_o the_o argument_n be_v take_v from_o their_o property_n they_o be_v your_o proper_a good_n thou_o have_v nothing_o so_o proper_a as_o thy_o husband_n and_o therefore_o see_v thy_o husband_n be_v thy_o proper_a good_a shall_v thou_o not_o do_v a_o duty_n to_o thy_o husband_n but_o i_o leave_v this_o and_o i_o come_v to_o the_o manner_n the_o manner_n of_o this_o subjection_n be_v bound_v in_o the_o lord_n the_o lord_n jesus_n must_v be_v the_o rule_n of_o it_o but_o to_o consider_v the_o word_n wife_n be_v subject_a to_o your_o husband_n in_o the_o lord_n subjection_n the_o manner_n of_o
