p._n 257._o what_o power_n a_o metropolitan_a have_v over_o the_o bishop_n of_o his_o own_o province_n by_o the_o canon-law_n the_o same_o and_o no_o other_o have_v the_o patriarch_n over_o the_o metropolitan_o and_o bishop_n of_o sundry_a province_n within_o his_o own_o patriarchate_o but_o a_o metropolitan_a ancient_o can_v do_v nothing_o out_o of_o his_o own_o particular_a diocese_n without_o the_o concurrence_n of_o the_o major_a part_n of_o the_o bishop_n of_o his_o province_n nor_o the_o patriarch_n in_o like_a manner_n without_o the_o advice_n and_o consent_n of_o his_o metropolitan_o and_o bishop_n wherein_o then_o consist_v patriarchal_a authority_n in_o convocate_a patriarchal_a synod_n and_o preside_v in_o they_o in_o pronounce_v sentence_n according_a to_o plurality_n of_o voice_n when_o metropolitan_a synod_n do_v not_o suffice_v to_o determine_v some_o emergent_a difficulty_n or_o difference_n i_o confess_v that_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o great_a difficulty_n and_o charge_n of_o convocate_a so_o many_o bishop_n and_o keep_v they_o so_o long_o together_o until_o all_o cause_n be_v hear_v and_o determine_v and_o by_o reason_n of_o those_o inconvenience_n which_o do_v fall_v upon_o their_o church_n in_o their_o absence_n provincial_a council_n be_v first_o reduce_v from_o twice_o to_o once_o in_o the_o year_n and_o afterward_o to_o once_o in_o three_o year_n and_o in_o process_n of_o time_n the_o hear_n of_o appeals_n and_o suchlike_a cause_n and_o the_o execution_n of_o the_o canon_n in_o that_o behalf_n be_v refer_v to_o metropolitan_o until_o the_o papacy_n swallow_v up_o all_o the_o authority_n of_o patriarch_n metropolitan_o and_o bishop_n thus_o the_o bishop_n now_o concern_v what_o they_o have_v say_v note_v 1._o that_o tho_o provincial_a council_n in_o some_o age_n and_o place_n be_v more_o frequent_o assemble_v in_o the_o time_n of_o whole_a sit_v as_o the_o assemble_v can_v do_v nothing_o without_o their_o primate_n or_o metropolitan_a so_o neither_o he_o without_o they_o yet_o in_o the_o interval_n of_o such_o synod_n which_o interval_n be_v too_o long_o to_o leave_v all_o matter_n of_o controversy_n whatever_o till_o then_o in_o suspense_n and_o happen_v many_o time_n also_o ancient_o to_o be_v long_o than_o the_o canon_n permit_v the_o metropolitan_o authority_n be_v not_o void_a but_o they_o
