J. for satisfaction of his Parishioners London Printed 1642. ENGLANDS Oaths Taken by all men of quallity in the Church and Common-wealth of England The Oath of Supremacy I A. B. doe utterly testifie and declare in my Conscience that the Kings Highnesse is the onely Supreame Governour of this Realme and all other his Highnesse Dominions and Countries as well in all Spirituall or Ecclesiasticall things or causes as Temporall And that no forraine Prince Person Prelate State or Potentate hath or ought to have any Iurisdiction Power Superioritie Preeminence or Authority Ecclesiasticall or Spirituall within this Realme And therefore I doe utterly renounce and forsake all forraine Iurisdictions Powers Superiorities and Authorities and doe promise that from henchforth I shall beare faith and true Allegiance to the Kings Highnesse his Heires and lawfull Successors and to my power shall assist and defend all Iurisdictions Priviledges Preheminences and Authorities granted or belonging to the Kings Highnesse his Heires and Successors or united and annexed to the Imperiall Crowne of the Realme So helpe me God and by the Contents of this Booke The Oath of Allegiance I A. B. doe truely and sincerely acknowledge professe testifie and declare in my conscience before God and the world That our Soveraigne Lord King CHARLES is lawfull King of this Realme and of all other his Majesties Dominions and Countreyes And that the Pope neither of himselfe nor by any Authority of the Church or Sea of Rome or by any other meanes with any other hath any power or Authority to depose the King or to dispose of any of his Majesties Kingdomes or Dominions or to Authorize any Forraigne Prince to invade or annoy Him or His Countreyes or to discharge any of his Subjects of their Allegiance and Obedience to His Majestie or to give Licence or leave to any of them to beare Armes raise Tumults or to offer any violence or hurt to His Majesties Royall person State or Government or to any of His Majesties Subiects within His Majesties Dominions Also I doe sweare from my heart that notwithstanding any Declaration or Sentence of Excommunication or Deprivation made or granted or to be made or granted by the Pope or his Successors or by any Authority derived or pretended to be derived from him or his Sea against the said King His Heires or Successors or any Absolution of the said Subjects from their Obedience I will beare faith and true Allegiance to His Majestie His Heires and Successors and Him and Them will defend to the vttermost of my power against all Conspiracies and Attempts whatsoever which shall be made against His or their Persons their Crowne and Dignitie by reason or colour of any such Sentence or Declaration or otherwise and will doe my best endeavour to disclose and make known unto his Majesty His Heires and Successors all Treasons and Traiterous Conspiracies which I shall know or heare of to be against Him or any of them And I do further sweare That I do from my heart abhor detest and abjure as impious and Hereticall this damnable Doctrine and Position That Princes which be Excommunicated or deprived by the Pope may be Deposed or Murthered by their Subjects or any other whatsoever And I doe beleeve and in conscience am resolved that neither the Pope nor any person whatsoever hath power to absolve me of this Oath or any part thereof which I acknowledge by good and full Authority to bee lawfully ministred unto me and doe renounce all Pardons and Dispensations to the contrary And all these things I doe plainely and sincerely acknowledge and sweare according to these expresse words by me spoken and according to the plaine and common sence and understanding of the same words without any Equivocation or mentall evasion or secret reservasion whatsoever And I doe make this Recognition and acknowledgement heartily willingly and truely upon the true Faith of a Christian So helpe me GOD. The late Protestation I A. B. doe in the presence of Almighty God Promise Vow and Protest to maintaine and defend as far as lawfully I may with my life power and estate the true reformed Protestant Religion expressed in the Doctrine of the Church of England against all Popery and Popish Innovation within this Realm contrary to the same Doctrin and according to the duty of my Allegiance His Majesties Royall Person Honour and Estate as also the Power and Priviledges of Parliament The lawfull Rights and Liberties of the Subject and every person that maketh this Protestation in whatsoever he shall doe in the lawfull pursuance of the same And to my power and as farre as lawfully I may I will oppose and by all good wayes and meanes indeavour to bring to condigne punishment all such as shall either by Force Plots Conspiracies or otherwise doe any thing to the contrary of any thing in this present Protestation contained And further that I shall in all just and Honourable wayes endeavour to preserve the Vnion and Peace betweene the three Kingdomes of England Scotland and Ireland And neither for Hope Feare nor other respect shall relinquish the Promise Vow and Protestation FINIS
