honour_n in_o itself_o be_v good_a the_o mean_n how_o to_o attain_v it_o and_o what_o do_v hinder_v &_o defile_v it_o let_v the_o consideration_n hereof_o stir_v up_o and_o put_v courage_n in_o those_o which_o be_v advance_v above_o the_o people_n to_o be_v resolute_a &_o zealous_a for_o the_o lord_n their_o god_n to_o maintain_v his_o cause_n against_o the_o proud_a of_o the_o world_n and_o to_o chase_v away_o the_o worker_n of_o iniquity_n but_o alas_o how_o may_v we_o lament_v the_o sinfulness_n of_o many_o which_o be_v advance_v to_o place_n abuse_v their_o authority_n which_o god_n and_o the_o king_n have_v give_v they_o to_o serve_v their_o own_o lust_n show_v themselves_o pattern_n of_o prophanesse_n lord_n lay_v not_o this_o sin_n to_o their_o charge_n and_o thus_o much_o shall_v suffice_v to_o have_v speak_v of_o honour_n and_o preferment_n and_o their_o insufficiency_n to_o profit_v us._n we_o will_v now_o proceed_v to_o the_o three_o point_n propound_v that_o be_v to_o consider_v of_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n which_o the_o profane_a epicure_n of_o our_o age_n do_v so_o much_o d●ale_v upon_o which_o vain_a pleasure_n and_o please_a vanity_n though_o they_o will_v begin_v with_o the_o first_o which_o for_o method_n sake_n we_o will_v subdivide_v into_o these_o particular_n 1_o pleasure_n of_o the_o body_n 2_o belly_n 3_o eye_n and_o 4_o ear_n but_o first_o of_o pleasure_n in_o general_a and_o afterward_o we_o will_v descend_v into_o the_o particular_n pleasure_n be_v so_o far_o from_o profit_v we_o for_o our_o soul_n or_o our_o body_n as_o that_o many_o time_n through_o the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n which_o want_v wisdom_n to_o use_v they_o aright_o they_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o much_o hurt_n to_o both_o but_o herein_o i_o will_v not_o be_v mistake_v as_o if_o i_o seem_v to_o condemn_v all_o pleasure_n as_o unlawful_a for_o christian_n to_o use_v but_o because_o the_o carnal_a world_n be_v ready_a to_o plead_v for_o baal_n and_o so_o through_o inordinate_a love_n of_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o prize_v they_o above_o their_o worth_n we_o will_v therefore_o dive_v into_o they_o and_o for_o trial_n bring_v they_o to_o the_o touchstone_n of_o god_n word_n by_o which_o we_o will_v discover_v which_o be_v good_a and_o lawful_a and_o how_o far_o they_o may_v be_v use_v of_o god_n child_n and_o how_o they_o may_v be_v abuse_v to_o which_o end_n we_o be_v to_o know_v pleasure_n be_v of_o three_o kind_n 1_o holy_a sort_n pleasure_n be_v of_o three_o sort_n and_o divine_a 2_o temporal_a and_o earthly_a 3_o carnal_a and_o sinful_a 1_o holy_a and_o divine_a pleasure_n be_v when_o we_o can_v rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v glad_a when_o we_o enjoy_v his_o gift_n and_o grace_n of_o his_o spirit_n here_o so_o as_o we_o have_v a_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o those_o joy_n which_o he_o have_v prepare_v for_o we_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v unto_o these_o pleasure_n we_o be_v exhort_v in_o scripture_n to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n always_o and_o again_o 4._o 2_o cor._n 10._o 17._o phil._n 4._o 4._o i_o say_v rejoice_v these_o heavenly_a pleasure_n will_v make_v we_o not_o only_o to_o nature_n be_v good_a and_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o use_n of_o they_o to_o we_o of_o a_o indifferent_a nature_n good_a to_o those_o which_o have_v grace_n to_o use_v they_o well_o but_o very_o pernicious_a to_o they_o that_o abuse_v they_o now_o by_o these_o temporal_a pleasure_n we_o be_v to_o understand_v those_o which_o consist_v in_o meat_n drink_n and_o apparel_n and_o all_o other_o necessary_n for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o our_o natural_a life_n now_o these_o be_v good_a in_o their_o own_o nature_n as_o they_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n which_o he_o have_v provide_v for_o his_o child_n in_o the_o creation_n &_o bestow_v they_o upon_o his_o servant_n as_o encouragement_n to_o move_v they_o to_o walk_v cheerful_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o piety_n for_o as_o that_o sweet_a singer_n of_o israel_n say_v he_o have_v not_o only_o 1●_n psal_n 104._o 1●_n make_v bread_n to_o strengthen_v man_n heart_n but_o also_o wine_n to_o make_v his_o heart_n glad_a and_o oil_n to_o make_v his_o face_n to_o shine_v he_o have_v ordain_v for_o his_o child_n not_o only_o thing_n necessary_a but_o also_o pleasant_a and_o comfortable_a for_o their_o delight_n and_o recreation_n
