which_o belong_v not_o to_o the_o essence_n of_o a_o church_n some_o city_n be_v more_o famous_a and_o able_a to_o keep_v the_o word_n of_o truth_n and_o make_v it_o furth-coming_a to_o other_o church_n it_o be_v not_o un-agreeable_a to_o scripture_n to_o have_v particular_a respect_n to_o city_n and_o church_n in_o they_o as_o they_o may_v further_o the_o work_n of_o the_o gospel_n 2._o because_o in_o these_o great_a city_n and_o place_n of_o concourse_n the_o minister_n and_o officer_n of_o the_o church_n who_o serve_v in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o go_v round_o in_o a_o circuit_n in_o the_o church_n about_o have_v their_o most_o ordinary_a residence_n as_o it_o will_v seem_v and_o that_o their_o fix_a collegiat_fw-la meeting_n and_o combination_n be_v there_o 1._o because_o we_o find_v no_o particular_a congregation_n mention_v but_o only_o the_o church_n at_o such_o a_o town_n write_v unto_o though_o there_o be_v many_o particular_a congregation_n about_o and_o these_o city_n keep_v not_o the_o word_n within_o themselves_o 2._o where_o they_o be_v mention_v as_o the_o church_n at_o jerusalem_n it_o take_v in_o not_o only_o these_o within_o the_o wall_n will_v not_o dally_v with_o they_o it_o show_v also_o how_o easy_o he_o can_v overturn_v a_o church_n and_o make_v no_o church_n of_o it_o he_o have_v often_o gather_v church_n quick_o and_o can_v he_o not_o dissolve_v they_o when_o they_o look_v to_o be_v in_o their_o prime_n who_o have_v read_v the_o commendation_n of_o ephesus_n in_o the_o former_a verse_n will_v have_v expect_v such_o a_o that_o it_o be_v now_o into_o for_o the_o second_o question_n why_o the_o lord_n peculiar_o threaten_v the_o church_n of_o ephesus_n with_o these_o punishment_n answ._n it_o be_v not_o because_o his_o discontentment_n be_v more_o with_o she_o than_o with_o other_o church_n but_o 1._o it_o be_v like_a they_o think_v outward_a honesty_n and_o reformation_n enough_o for_o their_o church-estate_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n of_o fear_n of_o un-churching_a so_o long_o as_o they_o continue_v pure_a in_o profession_n and_o zealous_a in_o purge_v etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o to_o beat_v down_o this_o conceit_n and_o to_o show_v the_o necessity_n of_o power_n as_o well_o as_o of_o form_n for_o continue_v of_o a_o church-estate_n he_o do_v subjoin_v this_o threaten_n of_o un-churching_a especial_o to_o this_o church_n 2._o because_o these_o here_o threaten_v will_v lay_v more_o weight_n on_o this_o threaten_n and_o be_v more_o affect_v with_o shore_v to_o be_v un-churched_n than_o with_o either_o sword_n or_o pestilence_n etc._n etc._n the_o lord_n therefore_o apply_v wise_o that_o which_o he_o think_v most_o conducible_a to_o this_o end_n 3._o it_o be_v like_a their_o outward_a church-estate_n be_v something_o think_v of_o by_o they_o and_o the_o external_a frame_n of_o ordinance_n in_o purity_n and_o that_o of_o discipline_n in_o vigour_n may_v be_v rest_v on_o and_o too_o much_o esteem_v of_o especial_o by_o the_o minister_n it_o be_v too_o ordinary_a for_o man_n to_o think_v too_o much_o of_o external_a form_n the_o lord_n therefore_o in_o this_o threaten_n touch_v the_o fault_n that_o may_v stick_v secret_o to_o they_o even_o in_o their_o zealous_a prosecute_n of_o external_a reformation_n 4._o because_o he_o will_v have_v all_o man_n know_v the_o respect_n he_o have_v to_o sincerity_n and_o the_o influence_n which_o the_o exercise_n or_o not_o exercise_v of_o grace_n have_v upon_o keep_v or_o lose_v of_o external_a privilege_n therefore_o do_v he_o so_o threaten_v this_o church_n when_o no_o outward_a cause_n of_o such_o controversy_n seem_v to_o be_v before_o man_n if_o it_o be_v ask_v further_o why_o this_o church_n be_v call_v the_o angel_n for_o thy_n have_v reference_n to_o the_o angel_n and_o by_o the_o candlestick_n be_v mean_v the_o church_n itself_o or_o 2._o how_o this_o become_v a_o threaten_n to_o the_o minister_n it_o be_v like_a a_o plague_n upon_o the_o people_n or_o 3._o how_o the_o people_n can_v be_v plague_v for_o a_o sin_n in_o their_o minister_n we_o shall_v consider_v the_o first_o by_o at_o his_o crown_n and_o his_o joy_n 1_o thess._n 2._o ult_n for_o a_o faithful_a minister_n will_v so_o account_v it_o 3._o it_o be_v probable_a it_o be_v some_o contentment_n to_o he_o to_o see_v thing_n go_v right_a in_o his_o outward_a ministry_n censure_v to_o be_v weighty_a discipline_n vigorous_a the_o people_n to_o give_v he_o credit_n and_o countenance_n etc._n etc._n without_o reflect_v on_o his_o own_o spiritual_a condition_n or_o aim_v at_o the_o inward_a warm_n of_o love_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n but_o think_v all_o well_o and_o who_o but_o he_o that_o minister_n can_v carry_v even_o when_o thing_n go_v well_o and_o can_v look_v to_o himself_o and_o the_o people_n also_o and_o be_v humble_a when_o he_o be_v countenance_v want_v of_o this_o spill_v many_o hopeful_a beginning_n in_o minister_n hand_n and_o this_o relation_n thy_o be_v particular_o mention_v here_o to_o make_v the_o threaten_a touch_v he_o the_o more_o it_o be_v not_o the_o candlestick_n but_o thy_o candlestick_n which_o be_v to_o be_v remove_v for_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n that_o make_v a_o thing_n to_o be_v in_o esteem_n with_o man_n and_o the_o loss_n thereof_o imitation_n 1._o in_o general_n we_o see_v that_o minister_n in_o their_o application_n aught_o to_o conform_v themselves_o to_o the_o case_n of_o the_o church_n and_o person_n to_o who_o they_o preach_v to_o erroneous_a people_n or_o such_o as_o be_v in_o danger_n of_o error_n more_o convince_o to_o the_o secure_a more_o sharp_o to_o the_o afflict_a and_o tender_a more_o comfortable_o etc._n etc._n as_o may_v be_v see_v in_o our_o lord_n deal_v with_o these_o church_n 2._o minister_n ought_v in_o their_o doctrine_n to_o apply_v themselves_o to_o all_o sort_n of_o person_n to_o wit_n to_o ruler_n and_o people_n to_o hypocrite_n and_o open_o profane_a yea_o to_o the_o good_a and_o these_o that_o have_v most_o tenderness_n reprove_v all_o convince_a all_n as_o there_o shall_v be_v cause_n so_o that_o neither_o hoplesnesse_n of_o profit_v some_o that_o seem_v to_o be_v desperate_a nor_o preposterous_a affection_n to_o these_o who_o be_v tender_a and_o affectionate_a ought_v to_o in_o heaven_n and_o what_o be_v more_o immediate_o manifest_v in_o heaven_n do_v someway_o shine_v by_o his_o ordinance_n among_o his_o people_n 5._o if_o we_o consider_v all_o the_o attendant_n
