holy_a and_o a_o profitable_a kind_n of_o life_n &_o be_v worthy_a of_o the_o commendation_n which_o this_o psalm_n here_o give_v unto_o it_o â–ª_o although_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o world_n can_v not_o praise_v it_o because_o of_o the_o incommodity_n and_o trouble_n which_o it_o bring_v with_o it_o but_o high_o extol_v the_o single_a life_n this_o be_v not_o to_o follow_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o commend_v gift_n and_o make_v a_o difference_n of_o they_o according_a to_o his_o own_o fantasy_n and_o think_v to_o serve_v god_n more_o true_o and_o pure_o in_o the_o single_a life_n then_o in_o matrimony_n as_o hierome_n do_v in_o his_o pestilent_a book_n which_o he_o write_v against_o jovinian_a who_o show_v himself_o to_o have_v more_o learning_n and_o judgement_n in_o his_o little_a finger_n than_o hierome_n have_v in_o all_o his_o body_n for_o he_o ought_v not_o to_o have_v praise_v virginity_n with_o the_o reproach_n and_o dispraise_n of_o matrimony_n but_o thus_o shall_v he_o rather_o have_v say_v that_o as_o they_o which_o be_v virgin_n shall_v serve_v god_n in_o their_o gift_n and_o calling_n so_o matrimony_n be_v not_o to_o be_v condemn_v but_o praise_v as_o a_o kind_n of_o life_n ordain_v of_o god_n even_o then_o when_o nature_n be_v yet_o sound_o and_o uncorrupt_a and_o not_o yet_o infect_v with_o any_o become_v partaker_n of_o the_o good_a thing_n and_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o bridegroom_n and_o they_o obtain_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o his_o merit_n if_o the_o pope_n be_v good_a then_o be_v he_o in_o the_o number_n of_o these_o and_o not_o the_o bridegroom_n not_o the_o husband_n but_o the_o spouse_n and_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o benefit_n and_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o bridegroom_n but_o if_o he_o be_v evil_a he_o be_v the_o bridegroom_n of_o satan_n and_o the_o friend_n of_o judas_n this_o be_v then_o the_o sum_n and_o effect_n of_o our_o answer_n that_o this_o psalm_n compel_v none_o to_o marry_v as_o though_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o all_o shall_v live_v in_o matrimony_n for_o it_o be_v not_o against_o these_o word_n of_o christ_n 9.12_o he_o that_o be_v able_a to_o receive_v this_o let_v he_o receive_v it_o but_o this_o be_v his_o only_a drift_n and_o purpose_n to_o set_v forth_o and_o commend_v matrimony_n contrary_a to_o the_o corrupt_a judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o pestilent_a example_n of_o the_o world_n which_o do_v altogether_o fight_v against_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n because_o of_o the_o trouble_n and_o incommodity_n which_o be_v incident_a thereunto_o these_o trouble_v they_o that_o fly_v &_o will_v not_o feel_v &_o therefore_o abhor_v matrimony_n defile_v themselves_o with_o whoredom_n and_o all_o uncleanness_n and_o so_o do_v much_o hurt_n by_o their_o devilish_a and_o damnable_a example_n against_o these_o viperous_a tongue_n &_o example_n full_a of_o offence_n this_o psalm_n arm_v we_o the_o world_n call_v the_o wife_n a_o necessary_a evil_n but_o peter_n upon_o certain_a consideration_n and_o yet_o without_o reproach_n call_v she_o a_o weak_a vessel_n but_o mark_v what_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v in_o this_o place_n mark_v how_o he_o beautify_v and_o commend_v the_o wife_n while_o he_o compare_v she_o to_o a_o fruitful_a vine_n and_o the_o child_n which_o she_o bring_v forth_o to_o olive_n plant_n tell_v i_o if_o in_o any_o monument_n there_o be_v to_o be_v find_v such_o two_o excellent_a similitude_n as_o these_o be_v yea_o if_o there_o be_v the_o like_a to_o be_v see_v in_o all_o the_o scripture_n for_o he_o take_v two_o of_o the_o most_o excellent_a tree_n that_o be_v to_o be_v find_v upon_o the_o earth_n the_o vine_n and_o the_o olive_n of_o the_o which_o be_v gather_v two_o notable_a and_o precious_a liquor_n &_o to_o these_o he_o compare_v the_o wife_n and_o the_o child_n her_o fruit_n before_o the_o world_n most_o contemptible_a thing_n the_o wife_n if_o you_o consider_v her_o condition_n be_v far_o inferior_a unto_o the_o man_n in_o those_o thing_n which_o pertain_v either_o to_o the_o body_n or_o to_o the_o mind_n special_o as_o touch_v the_o affair_n which_o be_v do_v by_o the_o man_n and_o can_v not_o be_v do_v by_o the_o woman_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n consider_v the_o gift_n and_o through_o the_o greatness_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o gift_n he_o cover_v what_o incommodity_n so_o ever_o be_v in_o the_o womankind_n and_o shadow_v the_o same_o with_o most_o excellent_a and_o goodly_a similitude_n now_o that_o we_o may_v see_v somewhat_o the_o cause_n why_o the_o holy_a ghost_n so_o great_o commend_v the_o woman_n kind_n let_v we_o imagine_v that_o we_o be_v all_o unmarried_a for_o the_o world_n detest_v marriage_n but_o special_o they_o that_o be_v unmarried_a yea_o let_v we_o presuppose_v that_o in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v neither_o man_n nor_o woman_n but_o such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v neither_o of_o they_o chastity_n and_o singleness_n of_o life_n how_o shall_v mankind_n continue_v shall_v not_o the_o whole_a world_n within_o twenty_o year_n be_v like_a unto_o a_o desert_n and_o a_o wild_a wilderness_n the_o truth_n both_o which_o sort_n i_o have_v here_o in_o few_o word_n to_o exhort_v &_o to_o desire_v first_o such_o as_o have_v mind_n to_o hear_v &_o read_v the_o doctrine_n of_o truth_n that_o they_o in_o life_n will_v follow_v that_o they_o hear_v and_o read_v of_o the_o other_o company_n this_o i_o have_v to_o crave_v that_o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o gracious_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v raise_v up_o before_o their_o face_n such_o plenty_n of_o preacher_n teacher_n writer_n and_o translator_n whereby_o by_o all_o mean_n to_o call_v they_o and_o to_o do_v they_o good_a they_o wise_o again_o for_o their_o part_n will_v consider_v what_o they_o have_v to_o do_v that_o be_v to_o take_v the_o time_n before_o they_o &_o not_o to_o refuse_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n great_a grace_n offer_v lest_o peradventure_o hereafter_o ignorance_n will_v not_o excuse_v they_o whereas_o now_o the_o light_n of_o truth_n so_o evident_o appear_v witting_o and_o willing_o they_o the_o worshippings_fw-mi and_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o therefore_o even_o when_o the_o la_o be_v yet_o in_o his_o full_a strength_n the_o holy_a prophet_n of_o god_n utter_o reject_v the_o burn_a offering_n and_o other_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o la_o do_v commend_v above_o all_o other_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o praise_n in_o like_a manner_n also_o ought_v we_o so_o much_o the_o more_o earnest_o &_o diligent_o to_o set_v forth_o this_o kind_n of_o worship_n because_o that_o after_o so_o great_a blindness_n wherein_o w_n have_v live_v the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n have_v as_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o mid_a day_n appear_v and_o shine_v unto_o we_o again_o therefore_o like_a as_o it_o have_v be_v count_v a_o manner_n of_o servitude_n in_o time_n past_a to_o hear_v a_o because_o of_o the_o continual_a vexation_n and_o assault_n of_o satan_n that_o as_o we_o be_v never_o without_o occasion_n of_o decline_a &_o fall_v from_o god_n so_o likewise_o we_o shall_v not_o cease_v to_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o the_o continual_a meditation_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o the_o edify_a both_o of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o the_o church_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o so_o pernicious_a as_o the_o opinion_n of_o many_o at_o this_o day_n who_o as_o soon_o as_o they_o have_v get_v never_o so_o little_a knowledge_n of_o this_o heavenly_a wisdom_n think_v themselves_o by_o and_o by_o to_o be_v great_a doctor_n for_o see_v that_o these_o thing_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o fine_a and_o eloquent_a talk_n in_o reason_v and_o dispute_v but_o in_o practice_n and_o experience_n direct_v not_o by_o man_n reason_n but_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o be_v miserable_o deceive_v that_o rest_n in_o bare_a and_o naked_a knowledge_n which_o be_v but_o unprofitable_a without_o experience_n and_o practice_v in_o the_o old_a testament_n god_n appoint_v but_o only_o the_o ten_o commandment_n wherein_o he_o will_v have_v his_o people_n to_o be_v exercise_v and_o occupy_v but_o who_o be_v there_o ever_o among_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n which_o can_v say_v that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o attain_v to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o in_o those_o commandment_n and_o shall_v we_o which_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n have_v the_o whole_a scripture_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o glory_n in_o the_o fullness_n and_o perfection_n of_o our_o knowledge_n let_v we_o not_o think_v therefore_o so_o high_o of_o ourselves_o but_o let_v we_o humble_v ourselves_o before_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o confess_v this_o wisdom_n to_o be_v infinite_a and_o such_o as_o we_o can_v never_o full_o attain_v unto_o although_o we_o shall_v spend_v our_o whole_a life_n in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o although_o by_o the_o of_o god_n for_o to_o teach_v to_o exercise_v and_o to_o set_v forth_o the_o word_n what_o be_v it_o else_o but_o continual_o to_o offer_v sacrifice_n unto_o god_n continual_o to_o worship_v god_n continual_o to_o be_v exercise_v in_o the_o three_o first_o commandment_n lamentable_a it_o be_v to_o see_v what_o a_o multitude_n there_o be_v of_o such_o as_o continual_o blaspheme_v god_n either_o in_o teach_v false_a doctrine_n or_o in_o persecute_v the_o truth_n wherefore_o very_o necessary_a it_o be_v that_o we_o which_o in_o comparison_n of_o they_o be_v so_o small_a a_o number_n shall_v those_o people_n which_o the_o jew_n know_v to_o be_v most_o cruel_a and_o barbarous_a mean_v that_o if_o he_o dwell_v in_o mesech_n &_o kedar_n he_o can_v not_o be_v amongst_o more_o cruel_a enemy_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v i_o be_o compel_v to_o comfort_v myself_o with_o hope_n and_o patience_n and_o will_v be_v glad_a that_o the_o church_n be_v in_o peace_n &_o quietness_n and_o the_o faithful_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n we_o must_v bear_v these_o offence_n that_o by_o the_o good_a we_o may_v overcome_v the_o evil_n thus_o we_o see_v then_o that_o the_o office_n of_o teach_v be_v a_o miserable_a kind_n of_o life_n for_o beside_o other_o calamity_n which_o the_o preacher_n &_o teacher_n of_o god_n word_n must_v suffer_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o unfaithful_a this_o also_o must_v needs_o be_v unto_o they_o a_o great_a cross_n to_o see_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o true_a doctrine_n miserable_o corrupt_v and_o the_o church_n disquiet_v by_o false_a brethren_n but_o for_o the_o lord_n cause_v these_o thing_n we_o suffer_v and_o we_o say_v with_o david_n woe_n be_v i_o that_o i_o remain_v in_o mesech_n and_o dwell_v in_o the_o tent_n of_o kedar_n barbarous_a and_o cruel_a people_n verse_n 6._o my_o soul_n have_v too_o long_o dwell_v with_o he_o that_o hate_v peace_n here_o he_o show_v plain_o who_o he_o mean_v by_o meâ—ech_n &_o kedar_n church_n to_o wit_n those_o wicked_a israelite_n which_o forsake_v the_o way_n of_o their_o godly_a father_n become_v spiteful_a and_o cruel_a against_o the_o faithful_a amongst_o who_o he_o be_v compel_v to_o dwell_v a_o long_a season_n and_o to_o suffer_v great_a injury_n and_o cruelty_n at_o their_o hand_n and_o this_o be_v the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o malignant_a spirit_n that_o who_o he_o can_v not_o over_o come_v by_o the_o multitude_n and_o grievousness_n of_o tentation_n those_o he_o go_v about_o to_o weary_a with_o tediousness_n &_o long_a continuance_n thereof_o wherefore_o many_o be_v unskilful_a of_o this_o spiritual_a warfare_n fight_v valiant_o at_o the_o beginning_n but_o in_o the_o end_n they_o faint_v and_o cowardly_a give_v over_o this_o danger_n david_n do_v foresee_v &_o complain_v thereof_o long_o have_v i_o dwell_v say_v he_o amongst_o those_o that_o hate_v peace_n that_o be_v which_o continual_o trouble_v &_o disquiet_v the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o never_o will_v be_v at_o peace_n with_o it_o think_v by_o importunity_n and_o long_a continuance_n at_o the_o length_n to_o get_v the_o victory_n so_o job_n with_o one_o kind_n of_o calamity_n be_v not_o discourage_v but_o when_o one_o messenger_n follow_v a_o other_o and_o one_o calamity_n likewise_o come_v upon_o a_o other_o than_o his_o mind_n by_o little_a and_o little_o begin_v to_o be_v trouble_v and_o this_o be_v the_o malignity_n and_o malice_n of_o satan_n wherefore_o let_v we_o cast_v away_o all_o hope_n of_o peace_n so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o and_o let_v we_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o if_o this_o day_n we_o overcome_v one_o kind_n of_o tentation_n to_o morrow_n satan_n will_v set_v upon_o we_o again_o with_o a_o other_o and_o here_o behold_v the_o craft_n and_o subtlety_n of_o the_o world_n the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v they_o heretic_n which_o be_v hater_n of_o peace_n and_o concord_n and_o this_o name_n they_o spiteful_o apply_v unto_o we_o thou_o say_v they_o be_v he_o that_o trouble_v israel_n thus_o they_o which_o trouble_v the_o church_n in_o deed_n accuse_v the_o true_a church_n and_o call_v themselves_o the_o lover_n of_o peace_n and_o concord_n this_o must_v we_o also_o suffer_v and_o so_o content_v ourselves_o with_o the_o testimony_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n which_o shall_v clear_v we_o before_o god_n that_o we_o seek_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n whereunto_o they_o be_v utter_a enemy_n as_o follow_v verse_n 7._o i_o seek_v peace_n &_o when_o i_o speak_v thereof_o they_o be_v bend_v to_o war_n this_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o my_o conscience_n that_o i_o love_v pear_n and_o seek_v after_o it_o whereof_o then_o come_v all_o this_o trouble_n all_o this_o deadly_a war_n of_o i_o i_o grant_v but_o not_o by_o my_o default_n for_o if_o i_o will_v suffer_v these_o disturber_n and_o hater_n of_o all_o godly_a peace_n and_o concord_n to_o say_v and_o to_o do_v what_o they_o listen_v than_o will_v they_o not_o so_o rage_n than_o will_v they_o not_o seek_v my_o hurt_n as_o they_o do_v than_o will_v they_o live_v in_o peace_n but_o how_o can_v we_o hide_v those_o thing_n that_o we_o have_v see_v that_o we_o have_v hear_v &_o that_o we_o be_v command_v to_o speak_v and_o declare_v not_o in_o our_o chamber_n but_o on_o the_o house_n top_n for_o christ_n say_v god_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o all_o creature_n and_o again_o no_o man_n hide_v a_o light_n under_o a_o bushel_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o the_o word_n be_v in_o our_o mouth_n as_o a_o burn_a coal_n which_o can_v not_o be_v keep_v in_o but_o compel_v we_o to_o open_v our_o mouth_n hereof_o then_o come_v all_o these_o trouble_n because_o they_o take_v away_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n &_o yet_o will_v have_v we_o to_o hold_v our_o peace_n and_o here_o we_o see_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o christ_n say_v in_o the_o gospel_n 11._o when_o a_o strong_a man_n keep_v the_o house_n all_o thing_n be_v in_o peace_n but_o when_o a_o strong_a than_o he_o come_v then_o trouble_v arise_v this_o be_v then_o our_o consolation_n that_o what_o trouble_v soever_o do_v arise_v we_o rest_v upon_o the_o testimony_n of_o our_o own_o conscience_n that_o we_o do_v nothing_o else_o but_o speak_v and_o declare_v that_o we_o be_v command_v it_o be_v not_o our_o life_n therefore_o which_o they_o accuse_v but_o our_o doctrine_n abide_v the_o blame_n which_o be_v not_o we_o but_o christ_n wherefore_o let_v we_o not_o only_o contemn_v all_o peace_n and_o concord_n but_o let_v heaven_n and_o earth_n also_o perish_v rather_o than_o the_o
devil_n the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o world_n sin_n and_o death_n also_o against_o adulterer_n murderer_n thief_n false_a brethren_n etc_o etc_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n the_o advance_v of_o his_o kingdom_n chastity_n innocence_n charity_n etc_n etc_n for_o god_n be_v invisible_a and_o therefore_o when_o they_o be_v hear_v which_o teach_v and_o preach_v unto_o we_o the_o word_n of_o god_n than_o god_n himself_o be_v hear_v for_o he_o can_v not_o be_v hear_v but_o by_o witness_n and_o as_o s._n paul_n call_v they_o by_o his_o messenger_n that_o which_o be_v teach_v they_o in_o the_o church_n be_v invisible_a and_o absent_a and_o therefore_o can_v be_v apprehend_v by_o no_o other_o mean_n but_o by_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o word_n so_o the_o whole_a gospel_n be_v a_o testimony_n for_o it_o speak_v of_o thing_n absent_a and_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o preach_n of_o faith_n this_o i_o speak_v for_o the_o simple_a and_o ignorant_a concern_v this_o word_n testify_v this_o be_v the_o cause_n then_o why_o david_n so_o rejoice_v namely_o that_o his_o jerusalem_n be_v build_v to_o this_o end_n that_o the_o word_n of_o faith_n may_v there_o be_v preach_v whereby_o the_o people_n may_v learn_v to_o know_v what_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v what_o he_o intend_v to_o do_v with_o his_o people_n what_o punishment_n and_o plague_n he_o threaten_v to_o the_o wicked_a and_o this_o preach_n be_v the_o testimony_n which_o david_n here_o speak_v of_o make_v unto_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n gather_v together_o in_o this_o place_n whereby_o they_o be_v know_v to_o be_v the_o peculiar_a and_o choose_a people_n of_o god_n from_o all_o other_o nation_n as_o he_o say_v in_o a_o other_o psalm_n he_o have_v not_o so_o deal_v with_o every_o nation_n wherefore_o we_o also_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o acknowledge_v the_o rich_a blessing_n of_o god_n that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v now_o pure_o &_o sincere_o preach_v amongst_o we_o as_o it_o be_v then_o in_o jerusalem_n and_o the_o sweet_a promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n sound_v in_o the_o ear_n &_o conscience_n of_o the_o godly_a to_o their_o singular_a comfort_n and_o consolation_n also_o the_o threaten_n of_o god_n publish_v whereby_o the_o wicked_a be_v call_v to_o repentance_n and_o the_o godly_a keep_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o mortification_n of_o the_o old_a man_n through_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n who_o the_o father_n through_o christ_n and_o for_o christ_n sake_n pour_v upon_o they_o abundant_o which_o willing_o and_o glad_o receive_v this_o testimony_n this_o be_v one_o part_n then_o of_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n to_o learn_v the_o way_n how_o to_o worship_v god_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o best_o please_v he_o which_o consist_v in_o teach_v of_o the_o word_n &_o hear_n of_o god_n when_o he_o speak_v unto_o we_o by_o his_o witness_n and_o therefore_o the_o devil_n desire_v nothing_o so_o much_o as_o to_o hinder_v the_o preach_v &_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n for_o this_o cause_n he_o raise_v up_o as_o you_o hear_v in_o the_o first_o psalm_n lie_v lip_n and_o deceitful_a tongue_n he_o stir_v up_o the_o world_n with_o sword_n and_o power_n to_o oppress_v the_o godly_a and_o even_o in_o ourselves_o he_o go_v about_o to_o deface_v this_o kind_n of_o service_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n by_o our_o devilish_a contempt_n and_o loathe_n of_o the_o same_o but_o contrariwise_o to_o build_v church_n and_o gorgeous_o to_o deck_v they_o for_o the_o maintenance_n of_o mass_n oblation_n false_a worship_n and_o idolatry_n all_o this_o he_o can_v abide_v well_o enough_o for_o by_o these_o thing_n he_o know_v that_o his_o strength_n be_v not_o diminish_v nor_o his_o power_n weaken_v but_o when_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v concern_v remission_n of_o sin_n the_o righteousness_n that_o come_v by_o christ_n and_o life_n everlasting_a this_o doctrine_n destroy_v his_o kingdom_n this_o cause_v he_o to_o rage_n and_o to_o seek_v by_o all_o mean_v possible_a how_o he_o may_v hinder_v the_o course_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n be_v to_o praise_v the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n word_n this_o david_n make_v the_o second_o kind_n of_o worship_n when_o he_o commend_v his_o jerusalem_n and_o here_o again_o note_v that_o he_o speak_v nothing_o of_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o law_n for_o albeit_o he_o do_v not_o discommend_v they_o as_o i_o say_v before_o yet_o he_o reckon_v they_o but_o as_o chaff_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o word_n and_o the_o fruit_n which_o follow_v thereof_o which_o be_v thank_n give_v and_o if_o he_o have_v name_v the_o sley_a of_o sacrifice_n every_o man_n have_v not_o be_v able_a to_o serve_v god_n with_o that_o kind_n of_o worship_n therefore_o he_o require_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o which_o they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v without_o great_a charge_n which_o yet_o notwithstanding_o very_o few_o do_v he_o do_v not_o condemn_v the_o build_n of_o the_o temple_n which_o afterward_o shall_v be_v do_v by_o his_o son_n solomon_n but_o do_v earnest_o desire_v the_o same_o and_o the_o cause_n why_o he_o do_v desire_v it_o here_o you_o see_v namely_o that_o first_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v there_o be_v preach_v and_o then_o that_o god_n may_v there_o accept_v the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n with_o praise_n and_o thank_n give_v for_o his_o benefit_n receive_v hitherto_o we_o have_v hear_v how_o the_o prophet_n extol_v and_o magnify_v the_o incomparable_a gift_n &_o benefit_n of_o god_n the_o word_n i_o mean_v with_o thank_n and_o praise_n unto_o god_n for_o the_o same_o for_o that_o be_v a_o benefit_n and_o blessing_n in_o deed_n which_o be_v know_v and_o acknowledge_v so_o to_o be_v all_o the_o world_n as_o we_o see_v be_v full_a &_o even_o glut_v with_o the_o benefit_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o it_o remain_v still_o in_o such_o blindness_n that_o it_o know_v they_o not_o to_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o it_o take_v and_o use_v they_o not_o otherwise_o then_o hog_n do_v their_o draff_n &_o swill_n but_o david_n see_v that_o god_n have_v give_v he_o a_o kingdom_n wherein_o the_o pure_a word_n of_o god_n and_o true_a religion_n flourish_v this_o great_a benefit_n he_o acknowledge_v and_o therefore_o he_o so_o rejoice_v and_o magnify_v his_o jerusalem_n as_o a_o place_n appoint_v by_o the_o lords_z own_o mouth_n where_o the_o people_n may_v come_v together_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o to_o give_v thanks_n unto_o god_n for_o his_o benefit_n out_o of_o the_o which_o place_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o find_v god_n the_o gentile_n because_o they_o have_v not_o the_o word_n nor_o this_o hear_n whereof_o david_n here_o speak_v can_v not_o find_v god_n hereby_o we_o may_v see_v how_o horrible_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o contemn_v and_o to_o loathe_v the_o word_n for_o what_o can_v be_v more_o horrible_a than_o that_o man_n a_o weak_a creature_n nothing_o but_o earth_n &_o dust_n shall_v so_o lift_v up_o himself_o in_o pride_n that_o when_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n speak_v &_o most_o love_o invite_v he_o to_o hear_v he_o will_v not_o hear_v and_o yet_o we_o see_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o common_a than_o this_o impiety_n this_o horrible_a contempt_n this_o devilish_a loathe_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n amongst_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n the_o cause_n be_v for_o that_o we_o hear_v not_o the_o lord_n speak_v now_o unto_o we_o in_o his_o majesty_n as_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o mount_v sinai_n at_o what_o time_n the_o people_n be_v astonish_v &_o tremble_v at_o the_o terrible_a voice_n of_o the_o lord_n &_o yet_o how_o soon_o have_v they_o forget_v the_o lord_n and_o murmur_v both_o against_o the_o lord_n and_o against_o moses_n thus_o in_o his_o majesty_n he_o speak_v no_o more_o but_o he_o speak_v now_o unto_o we_o by_o man_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v contemn_v horrible_a it_o be_v that_o sodom_n be_v burn_v up_o with_o fire_n from_o heaven_n horrible_a it_o be_v also_o that_o the_o whole_a world_n be_v destroy_v with_o water_n moreover_o the_o daily_a example_n of_o impiety_n and_o wickedness_n as_o murder_v whoredom_n etc_n etc_n be_v such_o that_o they_o can_v not_o be_v hear_v without_o horror_n &_o tremble_a but_o how_o horrible_a so_o ever_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v yet_o be_v it_o much_o more_o horrible_a to_o contemn_v god_n when_o by_o his_o word_n he_o speak_v unto_o we_o which_o all_o the_o world_n do_v at_o this_o day_n not_o only_o they_o which_o persecute_v the_o word_n with_o open_a tyranny_n but_o such_o also_o as_o be_v even_o amongst_o we_o &_o at_o the_o beginning_n seem_v to_o receive_v this_o doctrine_n with_o great_a rejoice_v wherefore_o david_n exhort_v
be_v speak_v verse_n 2._o behold_v as_o the_o eye_n of_o servant_n look_v unto_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n and_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o a_o maiden_n unto_o the_o hand_n of_o her_o mistress_n so_o our_o eye_n wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n until_o he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o us._n here_o the_o prophet_n set_v forth_o by_o similitude_n the_o nature_n of_o true_a piety_n as_o if_o he_o say_v great_a be_v our_o affliction_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n prolong_v his_o help_n neither_o ease_v our_o misery_n nor_o revenge_v our_o wrong_n he_o suffer_v the_o cruel_a the_o proud_a and_o the_o scornful_a to_o treaâ—_n we_o under_o foot_n and_o to_o prosper_v in_o our_o sight_n this_o delay_n be_v tedious_a &_o grevous_a unto_o we_o notwithstanding_o we_o will_v not_o murmur_v or_o become_v unpatient_a in_o these_o our_o affliction_n but_o as_o good_a servant_n in_o their_o distress_n look_v to_o the_o hand_n that_o be_v for_o help_v and_o succour_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n &_o mistress_n so_o will_v we_o attend_v upon_o y_fw-es lord_n our_o god_n until_o he_o have_v pity_n upon_o us._n tentation_n thus_o we_o see_v that_o the_o lord_n sometime_o defer_v his_o help_n neither_o show_v how_o nor_o when_o he_o will_v help_v but_o leave_v his_o saint_n in_o such_o perplexity_n as_o though_o he_o have_v no_o regard_n either_o of_o the_o time_n or_o of_o the_o manner_n of_o their_o deliverance_n so_o that_o they_o seem_v to_o hang_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o mid_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n these_o thing_n be_v grevous_a and_o exceed_o increase_v the_o tentation_n therefore_o we_o must_v lay_v sure_a hold_n on_o this_o consolation_n which_o the_o prophet_n here_o set_v forth_o that_o our_o tentation_n shall_v have_v a_o end_n but_o not_o as_o we_o will_v lest_o we_o seem_v to_o appoint_v the_o time_n and_o manner_n of_o our_o deliverance_n which_o the_o lord_n reserve_v to_o himself_o alone_o and_o here_o be_v a_o example_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o faithful_a patient_o to_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o time_n of_o trouble_n to_o be_v instant_a in_o prayer_n and_o never_o to_o let_v our_o hand_n fall_v or_o turn_v our_o eye_n from_o the_o lord_n but_o constant_o to_o persevere_v in_o sure_a hope_n &_o expectation_n of_o his_o gracious_a deliverance_n and_o of_o his_o help_a hand_n to_o be_v present_a with_o we_o in_o our_o necessity_n whereof_o our_o saviour_n christ_n also_o warn_v we_o in_o the_o gospel_n of_o the_o woman_n and_o the_o unrighteous_a judge_n who_o although_o he_o neither_o fear_v god_n nor_o man_n yet_o because_o this_o woman_n never_o cease_v to_o call_v upon_o he_o he_o be_v compel_v to_o hear_v her_o cause_n for_o if_o the_o worst_a man_n be_v not_o yet_o so_o wicked_a but_o he_o may_v be_v overcome_v with_o instant_n and_o continual_a prayer_n what_o shall_v we_o not_o hope_v to_o obtain_v at_o god_n hand_n which_o willing_o offer_v himself_o to_o hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o also_o command_v we_o to_o pray_v yea_o and_o be_v more_o ready_a to_o grant_v our_o petition_n then_o we_o be_v to_o ask_v for_o in_o that_o he_o differ_v his_o help_n he_o do_v it_o not_o because_o he_o will_v not_o hear_v we_o but_o to_o exercise_v and_o stir_v up_o our_o faith_n and_o to_o teach_v we_o that_o the_o way_n whereby_o he_o can_v and_o do_v deliver_v we_o be_v so_o manifold_a &_o miraculous_a that_o we_o be_v never_o able_a to_o conceive_v they_o therefore_o let_v we_o think_v that_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o ask_v be_v not_o deny_v but_o differ_v &_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o we_o be_v not_o neglect_v because_o of_o this_o delay_n the_o patient_a abide_n of_o the_o afflict_a say_v david_n in_o a_o other_o psalm_n shall_v not_o perish_v yea_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o lose_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n which_o david_n in_o the_o same_o psalm_n attribute_v unto_o he_o namely_o that_o he_o be_v a_o helper_n in_o time_n convenient_a and_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v by_o the_o way_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n commend_v the_o government_n of_o household_n and_o family_n in_o this_o place_n and_o signify_v that_o to_o serve_v be_v a_o vocation_n which_o please_v he_o if_o it_o be_v do_v in_o faith_n for_o servant_n be_v here_o mention_v for_o the_o comfort_n of_o all_o good_a servant_n and_o in_o they_o be_v commend_v not_o only_o their_o patience_n but_o also_o the_o confidence_n and_o trust_n which_o they_o have_v in_o the_o goodness_n of_o their_o master_n assure_o trust_v with_o patient_a tarry_n to_o find_v mercy_n and_o favour_n in_o their_o sight_n in_o time_n convenient_a but_o in_o deed_n david_n speak_v here_o of_o better_a servant_n than_o be_v common_o see_v at_o this_o day_n for_o there_o be_v no_o kind_n of_o people_n more_o deceitful_a negligent_a and_o stubborn_a even_o when_o there_o be_v great_a cause_n of_o sharp_a and_o severe_a correction_n wherefore_o let_v all_o such_o as_o will_v be_v count_v good_a servant_n remember_v the_o example_n and_o rule_n set_v forth_o here_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o observe_v of_o all_o good_a servant_n which_o be_v that_o they_o be_v not_o froward_a and_o stubborn_a but_o patient_o endure_v all_o thing_n and_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o true_a and_o faithful_a servant_n have_v always_o a_o watchful_a eye_n to_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n faithful_a and_o further_a note_n how_o humble_o the_o faithful_a think_v of_o themselves_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n they_o be_v call_v and_o choose_v to_o this_o dignity_n to_o be_v the_o heir_n and_o child_n of_o god_n and_o be_v exalt_v above_o the_o angel_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o they_o count_v themselves_o no_o better_o in_o god_n sight_n then_o servant_n they_o say_v not_o here_o behold_v like_v as_o child_n look_v to_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o father_n but_o as_o servant_n to_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n this_o be_v the_o humility_n and_o modesty_n of_o the_o godly_a &_o it_o be_v so_o far_o of_o that_o hereby_o they_o lose_v the_o dignity_n of_o god_n child_n to_o the_o which_o they_o be_v call_v that_o by_o this_o mean_v it_o be_v make_v to_o they_o more_o sure_a and_o certain_a moreover_o here_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v that_o david_n say_v not_o simple_o we_o lift_v up_o our_o eye_n to_o the_o lord_n but_o he_o add_v moreover_o to_o the_o lord_n our_o final_a and_o the_o principal_a cause_n and_o the_o efficient_a cause_n they_o make_v a_o wise_a man_n or_o a_o prudent_a magistrate_n or_o as_o they_o term_v he_o a_o good_a man_n or_o a_o good_a citizen_n but_o we_o shall_v hear_v solomon_n dispute_v far_o otherwise_o for_o they_o have_v and_o do_v follow_v only_o the_o judgement_n of_o reason_n but_o he_o have_v the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o teach_v he_o the_o final_a and_o efficient_a cause_n of_o civil_a and_o household_n government_n he_o have_v also_o reason_n and_o experience_n for_o he_o govern_v both_o a_o common_a wealth_n and_o a_o family_n wherefore_o he_o be_v teach_v not_o only_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o also_o by_o experience_n to_o speak_v as_o he_o do_v for_o he_o be_v occupy_v in_o great_a affair_n and_o have_v experience_n of_o high_a and_o weighty_a matter_n and_o we_o ought_v the_o more_o high_o to_o esteem_n of_o this_o psalm_n for_o that_o it_o be_v write_v of_o so_o excellent_a a_o man_n concern_v true_a political_a and_o household_n government_n which_o psalm_n although_o it_o be_v but_o short_a for_o it_o contain_v but_o only_o six_o verse_n yet_o be_v it_o full_a of_o singular_a doctrine_n and_o as_o for_o the_o formal_a and_o material_a cause_n he_o touch_v they_o not_o for_o he_o see_v that_o there_o be_v house_n already_o there_o be_v common_a wealth_n well_o order_v and_o also_o furnish_v with_o good_a law_n and_o magistrate_n but_o be_v that_o enough_o no_o forsooth_o for_o the_o two_o principal_a cause_n be_v yet_o lack_v for_o as_o touch_v the_o formal_a cause_n it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o gentile_n have_v better_a law_n than_o the_o jew_n and_o as_o touch_v the_o material_a cause_n it_o may_v be_v also_o that_o some_o magistrate_n among_o the_o gentile_n be_v better_a than_o they_o which_o be_v among_o the_o people_n of_o god_n but_o these_o be_v but_o only_o the_o matter_n and_o the_o form_n we_o must_v go_v further_a therefore_o family_n and_o seek_v to_o know_v the_o principal_a cause_n of_o common_a wealth_n and_o household_n government_n who_o it_o be_v that_o make_v a_o common_a wealth_n and_o family_n also_o to_o what_o end_n he_o ordain_v the_o same_o teach_v and_o yet_o be_v the_o covetousness_n of_o man_n so_o great_a that_o there_o be_v no_o end_n of_o heap_v up_o riches_n by_o hook_n or_o crook_n by_o right_a or_o wrong_n yea_o they_o will_v rather_o omit_v the_o service_n of_o god_n the_o hear_n and_o preach_v of_o his_o word_n than_o any_o gainful_a labour_n they_o do_v not_o see_v that_o while_o they_o neglect_v the_o word_n and_o seek_v their_o own_o gain_n they_o procure_v unto_o themselves_o a_o far_o great_a loss_n which_o although_o they_o do_v not_o present_o feel_v yet_o shall_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o their_o riches_n which_o with_o so_o great_a labour_n they_o heap_v together_o by_o god_n just_a judgement_n shall_v perish_v either_o by_o thief_n by_o war_n by_o fire_n or_o otherwise_o or_o else_o they_o shall_v never_o come_v to_o the_o heir_n who_o they_o do_v appoint_v but_o in_o popery_n this_o persuasion_n be_v deep_o root_v in_o man_n heart_n that_o if_o they_o have_v once_o hear_v a_o mass_n teacher_n but_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o world_n can_v not_o abide_v the_o negative_a for_o the_o world_n say_v this_o will_v i_o this_o have_v i_o do_v and_o this_o will_v i_o do_v it_o will_v needs_o be_v the_o governor_n of_o common_a wealth_n and_o rule_n in_o god_n steed_n wherefore_o it_o receive_v a_o just_a reward_n in_o that_o his_o enterprise_n be_v all_o in_o vain_a and_o his_o to_o be_v the_o author_n and_o efficient_a cause_n thereof_o therefore_o they_o have_v quietness_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o if_o any_o trouble_n happen_v they_o can_v overcome_v it_o with_o job_n say_v god_n have_v give_v and_o god_n have_v take_v away_o the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v bless_v so_o can_v they_o both_o use_v the_o good_a gift_n which_o they_o have_v and_o also_o overcome_v all_o trouble_n and_o calamity_n the_o flesh_n can_v do_v neither_o of_o these_o but_o be_v occupy_v only_o about_o such_o thing_n as_o it_o will_v have_v and_o while_o it_o seek_v and_o travel_v for_o the_o same_o it_o lose_v the_o good_a thing_n which_o present_o it_o do_v enjoy_v as_o do_v esop_n dog_n both_o which_o in_o snatch_v at_o the_o shadow_n lose_v the_o flesh_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o jaw_n and_o the_o shadow_n withal_o this_o dog_n therefore_o be_v a_o image_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n wherein_o you_o may_v see_v as_o it_o be_v one_o master_n of_o the_o household_n to_o who_o god_n have_v give_v a_o wife_n child_n a_o family_n substance_n etc_n etc_n these_o thing_n be_v the_o flesh_n in_o the_o dog_n mouth_n what_o do_v he_o now_o the_o gift_n which_o he_o have_v he_o do_v not_o regard_n but_o afflict_v himself_o with_o other_o vain_a care_n for_o such_o thing_n as_o he_o have_v not_o nor_o shall_v ever_o attain_v unto_o but_o these_o life_n so_o the_o magistrate_n rise_v early_o when_o he_o have_v a_o care_n that_o all_o thing_n may_v be_v do_v as_o he_o have_v determine_v likewise_o in_o all_o kind_n of_o life_n to_o rise_v early_o be_v when_o a_o man_n have_v no_o quietness_n no_o time_n of_o rest_n from_o care_n and_o travel_n unless_o he_o obtain_v that_o he_o seek_v for_o but_o all_o this_o be_v in_o vain_a hereof_o have_v i_o see_v innumerable_a example_n and_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o like_a if_o you_o live_v young_a man_n because_o they_o lack_v experience_n do_v not_o yet_o understand_v these_o matter_n but_o in_o time_n you_o shall_v see_v that_o in_o all_o state_n and_o kind_n of_o life_n in_o husbandman_n artificer_n the_o learned_a unlearned_a magistrate_n king_n prince_n you_o shall_v see_v i_o say_v that_o they_o rise_v early_o that_o be_v they_o be_v careful_a they_o appoint_v certain_a end_n whereunto_o they_o direct_v all_o their_o device_n and_o policy_n they_o make_v themselves_o loathsome_a thing_n for_o so_o these_o nice_a and_o delicate_a hypocrite_n do_v term_v they_o to_o be_v reprehend_v likewise_o in_o their_o husband_n in_o a_o child_n we_o can_v discern_v between_o the_o child_n and_o his_o order_n his_o scab_n his_o disease_n or_o any_o like_a thing_n for_o who_o reject_v his_o child_n because_o he_o have_v defile_v himself_o yea_o who_o forsake_v he_o because_o he_o be_v scab_v and_o scurny_n or_o infect_v with_o the_o pestilence_n or_o any_o other_o contagious_a disease_n be_v not_o his_o ordure_n and_o uncleanness_n wash_v away_o be_v not_o he_o careful_o tend_v and_o tender_v in_o his_o sickness_n that_o he_o may_v recover_v his_o health_n again_o thus_o we_o shadow_v and_o cover_v the_o fault_n and_o deformity_n of_o nature_n with_o the_o greatness_n and_o excellency_n of_o that_o good_a thing_n which_o we_o know_v to_o consist_v in_o the_o health_n and_o welfare_n of_o our_o child_n here_o who_o will_v not_o detest_v he_o which_o shall_v say_v that_o the_o child_n shall_v be_v cast_v away_o because_o he_o defile_v himself_o or_o because_o of_o his_o disease_n be_v it_o never_o so_o great_a as_o these_o holy_a hypocrite_n do_v most_o spiteful_o reprehend_v those_o duty_n of_o matrimony_n which_o the_o man_n show_v towards_o his_o wife_n what_o shall_v we_o not_o think_v she_o to_o be_v the_o creature_n of_o god_n and_o partaker_n of_o the_o benefit_n of_o christ_n beside_o this_o that_o she_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o to_o this_o end_n that_o she_o may_v be_v a_o help_n unto_o we_o wherefore_o they_o be_v devilish_a word_n which_o the_o wicked_a do_v use_v against_o the_o lawful_a company_n and_o duty_n that_o be_v between_o man_n and_o wife_n because_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v holy_a and_o great_a lover_n of_o chastity_n and_o worthy_o to_o contemn_v these_o thing_n if_o such_o man_n be_v worthy_a to_o be_v father_n they_o shall_v understand_v how_o little_a it_o will_v offend_v a_o good_a or_o natural_a father_n even_o to_o kiss_v his_o scab_a and_o sick_a child_n to_o handle_v and_o to_o heal_v his_o sore_n for_o if_o infant_n shall_v be_v cast_v away_o either_o because_o of_o their_o disease_n or_o scabbedness_n i_o pray_v you_o sir_n where_o shall_v you_o and_o i_o now_o have_v be_v wherefore_o the_o world_n be_v sharp_o to_o be_v rebuke_v which_o even_o in_o the_o best_a thing_n consider_v the_o fault_n but_o esteem_v not_o the_o virtue_n and_o where_o as_o it_o can_v lack_v the_o use_n of_o these_o virtue_n and_o have_v they_o daily_o even_o as_o it_o be_v in_o his_o hand_n yet_o be_v it_o so_o blind_a that_o it_o can_v not_o see_v they_o but_o this_o come_v of_o original_a sin_n to_o be_v stark_o blind_a even_o in_o the_o most_o excellent_a creature_n of_o god_n and_o not_o to_o understand_v what_o good_a thing_n and_o great_a blessing_n be_v offer_v unto_o we_o in_o and_o by_o they_o but_o rather_o to_o be_v offend_v with_o such_o small_a fault_n or_o incommodity_n which_o in_o comparison_n thereof_o be_v in_o a_o manner_n nothing_o to_o be_v regard_v wherefore_o we_o must_v here_o do_v as_o cicero_n say_v he_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v in_o plead_v of_o cause_n to_o wit_n that_o if_o there_o be_v any_o evil_a therein_o that_o he_o pass_v over_o with_o silence_n but_o if_o there_o be_v any_o good_a thing_n that_o he_o urge_v that_o he_o amplify_v therein_o he_o be_v whole_o occupy_v for_o who_o will_v have_v the_o less_o regard_n of_o his_o own_o body_n because_o he_o have_v a_o sore_a in_o his_o breast_n or_o in_o his_o long_n or_o some_o other_o malady_n in_o any_o other_o part_n of_o his_o body_n yea_o have_v we_o not_o therefore_o a_o great_a care_n &_o regard_n of_o our_o body_n look_v upon_o our_o courtier_n who_o when_o they_o have_v well_o pamper_a themselves_o and_o carry_v their_o belly_n full_a of_o dirt_n and_o dung_n walk_v in_o their_o silk_n and_o other_o sumptuous_a apparel_n deck_v with_o gold_n and_o other_o goodly_a ornament_n and_o smell_v as_o though_o their_o body_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o precious_a balm_n and_o yet_o do_v they_o not_o once_o think_v how_o full_a of_o filthiness_n they_o be_v thus_o we_o hide_v our_o fault_n and_o deformity_n most_o diligent_o &_o that_o which_o be_v honest_a or_o appear_v so_o to_o be_v we_o set_v forth_o and_o magnify_v to_o the_o uttermost_a but_o now_o why_o do_v we_o not_o the_o like_a in_o matrimony_n why_o do_v we_o not_o cover_v the_o fault_n and_o commend_v the_o virtue_n thereof_o nay_o we_o do_v clean_o contrary_a so_o blind_v we_o be_v with_o original_a sin_n that_o in_o the_o best_a and_o most_o holy_a thing_n we_o pick_v out_o that_o only_a which_o we_o may_v reprehend_v in_o like_a manner_n we_o do_v also_o in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o in_o all_o thing_n that_o pertain_v to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n for_o whereas_o he_o give_v unto_o we_o the_o use_n of_o the_o sun_n plenty_n of_o victual_n a_o whole_a body_n etc_n etc_n these_o blessing_n no_o man_n consider_v no_o man_n give_v thanks_n for_o they_o but_o if_o god_n begin_v to_o viset_fw-la we_o with_o the_o pestilence_n if_o we_o be_v pinch_v a_o little_a with_o dearth_n &_o scarcity_n of_o victual_n or_o but_o one_o of_o our_o tooth_n do_v ache_v by_o and_o by_o we_o be_v so_o vex_v that_o the_o anguish_n thereof_o either_o hide_v or_o utter_o take_v away_o from_o we_o the_o remembrance_n of_o all_o god_n benefit_n thus_o go_v it_o with_o the_o world_n and_o with_o our_o own_o reason_n that_o we_o be_v more_o move_v with_o one_o evil_a as_o we_o esteem_v it_o then_o with_o a_o thousand_o good_a thing_n beside_o but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n take_v a_o contrary_a way_n for_o he_o cover_v the_o fault_n and_o that_o which_o be_v good_a he_o set_v forth_o with_o worthy_a praise_n wherefore_o he_o so_o paint_v out_o the_o wife_n that_o he_o command_v thou_o to_o consider_v of_o she_o as_o of_o a_o vine_n plant_v in_o thy_o house_n and_o give_v to_o thou_o of_o god_n who_o fruit_n be_v divine_a plant_n much_o more_o pleasant_a and_o more_o excellent_a than_o the_o olive_n tree_n for_o albeit_o they_o degenerate_a and_o grow_v out_o of_o kind_n and_o become_v evil_a plant_n yet_o can_v it_o not_o be_v deny_v but_o that_o they_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o that_o must_v we_o acknowledge_v now_o let_v they_o as_o i_o have_v say_v which_o have_v the_o gift_n of_o chastity_n be_v without_o this_o vine_n and_o let_v they_o delight_v in_o their_o other_o vine_n and_o other_o fruit_n but_o we_o be_v now_o in_o the_o praise_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o vine_n here_o the_o wife_n be_v as_o the_o fruitful_a vine_n and_o the_o child_n as_o the_o olive_n plant_n for_o so_o the_o holy_a ghost_n teach_v we_o and_o the_o matter_n itself_o testify_v the_o same_o although_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v not_o thus_o teach_v we_o at_o all_o for_o the_o very_a gentile_n do_v high_o commend_v natural_a affection_n love_n and_o kindness_n of_o one_o towards_o a_o other_o this_o do_v also_o the_o ballet_n which_o be_v use_v amongst_o we_o german_n testify_v whereby_o the_o faithful_a and_o love_a affection_n between_o man_n and_o wife_n be_v set_v forth_o with_o singular_a praise_n and_o that_o this_o life_n have_v nothing_o more_o joyful_a and_o excellent_a then_o be_v a_o faithful_a wife_n and_o love_a to_o her_o husband_n the_o same_o also_o do_v all_o wise_a and_o godly_a man_n confess_v not_o for_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v great_a in_o whoredom_n fornication_n and_o other_o uncleanness_n for_o thereby_o unclean_a lust_n be_v inflame_v but_o in_o matrimony_n it_o be_v quench_v and_o the_o great_a pleasure_n that_o a_o man_n can_v have_v be_v this_o when_o his_o wife_n be_v of_o a_o kind_n and_o a_o love_a heart_n towards_o he_o this_o be_v a_o excellent_a gift_n and_o high_o to_o be_v esteem_v and_o singular_o commend_v in_o woman_n whereof_o these_o swine_n be_v utter_o ignorant_a which_o think_v the_o wife_n to_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o swinish_a puddle_n of_o filthy_a pleasure_n nay_o she_o be_v a_o excellent_a instrument_n plant_v of_o god_n in_o thy_o house_n that_o therein_o she_o may_v be_v as_o a_o fruitful_a vine_n for_o this_o cause_n husband_n ought_v to_o love_v their_o wife_n and_o child_n yea_o more_o than_o their_o own_o life_n
wherefore_o these_o high_a commendation_n of_o matrimony_n be_v here_o set_v against_o the_o venomous_a tongue_n both_o of_o satan_n and_o of_o wicked_a man_n wherewith_o they_o do_v so_o malicious_o slander_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n also_o against_o the_o corrupt_a &_o perverse_a judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n whereby_o we_o be_v provoke_v either_o to_o a_o loathe_n &_o contemn_v of_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n or_o else_o to_o impatiency_n when_o our_o eye_n be_v blind_v in_o discern_v and_o judge_v the_o benefit_n and_o commodity_n thereof_o and_o be_v still_o in_o behold_v of_o the_o fault_n the_o incommodity_n or_o trouble_n that_o belong_v to_o the_o same_o thus_o the_o wise_a sort_n even_o amongst_o the_o gentile_n will_v not_o do_v for_o they_o do_v see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a affection_n in_o the_o man_n and_o the_o wife_n towards_o their_o child_n and_o a_o mutual_a love_n &_o faithfulness_n between_o themselves_o &_o both_o these_o thing_n they_o praise_v and_o set_v forth_o with_o great_a commendation_n so_o god_n by_o the_o small_a number_n of_o the_o wise_a sort_n even_o among_o the_o gentile_n do_v overcome_v the_o multitude_n of_o these_o viperous_a tongue_n which_o be_v so_o venomous_a &_o spiteful_a against_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n how_o much_o more_o than_o ought_v we_o to_o defend_v matrimony_n we_o i_o say_v who_o the_o holy_a ghost_n move_v &_o stir_v up_o so_o to_o do_v by_o these_o excellent_a similitude_n whereby_o he_o show_v that_o god_n be_v so_o delight_v with_o the_o life_n of_o marry_a folk_n that_o not_o only_o he_o give_v his_o blessing_n for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o this_o life_n but_o also_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o belly_n and_o of_o the_o breast_n as_o moses_n call_v it_o this_o no_o doubt_n will_v not_o god_n do_v if_o he_o hate_v such_o as_o be_v marry_v for_o he_o say_v unto_o adam_n all_o that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n shall_v be_v unto_o thou_o for_o food_n and_o sustenance_n after_o the_o flood_n also_o he_o give_v unto_o man_n the_o use_n of_o clean_a beast_n yea_o he_o give_v unto_o matrimony_n what_o treasure_n and_o riches_n so_o ever_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o what_o so_o ever_o in_o nature_n be_v contain_v all_o these_o be_v lively_a testimony_n that_o god_n approve_v like_v and_o love_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n although_o the_o holy_a scripture_n shall_v speak_v nothing_o thereof_o at_o all_o moreover_o who_o see_v not_o that_o the_o propagation_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n kind_n be_v ordain_v of_o god_n let_v we_o therefore_o be_v mindful_a of_o these_o similitude_n &_o therewith_o arm_v ourselves_o against_o the_o wicked_a &_o perverse_a judgement_n of_o reason_n against_o the_o devil_n &_o venomous_a tongue_n which_o magnify_v and_o ertoll_n vanity_n and_o abominable_a filthiness_n and_o these_o inestimable_a gift_n they_o most_o wicked_o dispraise_v and_o despise_v verse_n 4._o lo_o thus_o shall_v the_o man_n be_v bless_v that_o fear_v the_o lord_n hitherto_o we_o have_v hear_v those_o excellent_a commendation_n of_o matrimony_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o to_o confirm_v and_o comfort_v such_o as_o be_v appoint_v to_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n that_o they_o may_v patient_o suffer_v the_o incommodity_n the_o trouble_n and_o tentation_n of_o matrimony_n and_o not_o follow_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o world_n which_o like_v unto_o the_o mule_n and_o the_o ass_n follow_v the_o fence_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o be_v overcome_v with_o these_o trouble_n and_o tentation_n the_o good_a gift_n of_o god_n it_o understand_v not_o but_o some_o time_n it_o detest_v and_o abhor_v they_o for_o you_o shall_v find_v many_o to_o who_o it_o seem_v a_o great_a misery_n to_o have_v many_o child_n as_o though_o matrimony_n be_v ordain_v for_o beastly_a pleasure_n only_o and_o not_o to_o this_o end_n rather_o that_o we_o may_v do_v acceptable_a service_n both_o to_o god_n and_o man_n in_o nourish_v and_o bring_v up_o of_o child_n these_o man_n be_v ignorant_a of_o that_o which_o be_v most_o comfortable_a in_o matrimony_n for_o what_o be_v to_o be_v compare_v unto_o the_o love_n of_o parent_n towards_o their_o child_n especial_o since_o here_o thou_o see_v that_o child_n be_v the_o great_a portion_n of_o god_n blessing_n but_o here_o again_o we_o have_v need_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o world_n take_v it_o not_o for_o a_o blessing_n when_o a_o man_n get_v his_o live_n by_o labour_n &_o travail_n suffer_v the_o trouble_n and_o vexation_n of_o his_o wife_n his_o child_n his_o servant_n and_o such_o like_a whereof_o in_o matrimony_n there_o be_v many_o these_o thing_n i_o say_v the_o world_n esteem_v not_o as_o blessing_n but_o abhor_v they_o as_o malediction_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o confirm_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o godly_a commend_v and_o set_v forth_o all_o that_o he_o have_v hitherto_o say_v by_o this_o sweet_a and_o comfortable_a name_n and_o call_v they_o blessing_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o know_v god_n and_o his_o gift_n right_o lest_o that_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o his_o benefit_n and_o blessing_n we_o shall_v fall_v to_o a_o loathe_n thereof_o as_o the_o world_n be_v wont_a to_o do_v which_o regard_v not_o those_o thing_n which_o it_o have_v &_o present_o enjoy_v but_o desire_v the_o thing_n which_o it_o have_v not_o wherefore_o this_o vehement_a kind_n of_o speech_n be_v diligent_o to_o be_v note_v in_o that_o he_o call_v this_o life_n bless_v and_o happy_a which_o to_o the_o judgement_n of_o reason_n be_v miserable_a and_o full_a of_o calamity_n when_o he_o say_v loe_o thus_o shall_v the_o man_n be_v bless_v etc_n etc_n what_o can_v thou_o desire_v more_o in_o that_o thou_o have_v a_o wife_n and_o child_n and_o live_v with_o the_o labour_n of_o thy_o hand_n it_o be_v in_o deed_n the_o blessing_n of_o god_n wherefore_o thou_o have_v not_o only_o great_a cause_n not_o to_o be_v offend_v but_o also_o to_o give_v god_n thanks_n for_o his_o great_a blessing_n but_o how_o few_o be_v there_o to_o be_v find_v which_o do_v believe_v this_o and_o if_o any_o do_v believe_v it_o yet_o through_o infirmity_n they_o be_v that_o this_o say_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o a_o singular_a consolation_n may_v be_v always_o before_o the_o eye_n and_o in_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o godly_a for_o how_o shall_v we_o find_v a_o more_o manifest_a argument_n that_o the_o life_n of_o such_o as_o be_v marry_v please_v god_n they_o this_o that_o their_o whole_a life_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o blessing_n in_o deed_n it_o so_o come_v to_o pass_v often_o time_n that_o they_o be_v vex_v with_o the_o sin_n of_o impatiency_n through_o the_o offence_n of_o their_o family_n their_o child_n and_o some_o time_n their_o neighbour_n but_o what_o then_o all_o thing_n can_v be_v so_o pure_a and_o so_o perfect_a in_o this_o our_o infirmity_n but_o that_o oftentimes_o we_o shall_v feel_v either_o some_o excess_n or_o some_o lack_n both_o within_o the_o house_n and_o without_o but_o this_o sin_n of_o impatiency_n the_o daily_a prayer_n of_o the_o godly_a do_v quench_v &_o overcome_v and_o thus_o must_v the_o godly_a comfort_n themselves_o that_o they_o be_v place_v among_o god_n blessing_n and_o live_v a_o life_n bless_v of_o god_n this_o faith_n the_o great_a and_o strong_a it_o be_v the_o more_o joy_n it_o bring_v for_o albeit_o some_o trouble_n do_v happen_v &_o we_o some_o time_n also_o be_v overtake_v with_o sin_n yet_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n omnipotent_a wherefore_o in_o all_o tentation_n the_o people_n as_o he_o add_v in_o this_o clause_n peace_n upon_o israel_n that_o be_v to_o say_v all_o wealth_n and_o prosperity_n i_o wish_v unto_o israel_n for_o thy_o sake_n thus_o the_o psalm_n commend_v and_o defend_v matrimony_n against_o those_o spiteful_a slander_n and_o reproach_n of_o the_o world_n which_o can_v not_o judge_v but_o according_a to_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o the_o be_v nothing_o in_o matrimony_n but_o mere_a love_n amorous_a delight_n and_o fleshly_a pleasure_n in_o like_a manner_n how_o many_o shall_v you_o find_v which_o through_o a_o inordinate_a love_n and_o desire_v of_o glory_n seek_v to_o rule_v and_o be_v in_o authority_n but_o afterwards_o when_o in_o matrimony_n they_o must_v suffer_v trouble_n and_o vexation_n and_o in_o politic_a government_n envy_n hatred_n curse_v speak_v and_o slander_n they_o cry_v out_o that_o they_o be_v deceive_v and_o become_v impatient_a yea_o it_o can_v not_o otherwise_o be_v but_o that_o these_o
