the_o day_n of_o captivity_n and_o national_a visitation_n now_o what_o remain_v but_o that_o according_o we_o shall_v be_v sensible_a and_o apprehensive_a of_o it_o in_o this_o representation_n and_o from_o thence_o to_o prevent_v the_o terribleness_n of_o it_o to_o ourselves_o for_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v that_o the_o terribleness_n of_o they_o increase_v not_o i_o will_v do_v it_o hereafter_o no_o but_o i_o have_v do_v it_o already_o we_o see_v here_o the_o readiness_n and_o forwardness_n of_o christ_n for_o we_o he_o be_v full_a as_o nimble_a and_o as_o speedy_a as_o satan_n satan_n he_o have_v desire_v already_o and_o christ_n he_o have_v pray_v already_o he_o be_v as_o forward_o to_o help_v we_o as_o the_o other_o to_o conspire_v against_o deal_n of_o contentment_n in_o the_o mutual_a remembrance_n of_o one_o another_o at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n oh_o but_o when_o they_o shall_v consider_v that_o they_o have_v the_o remembrance_n of_o christ_n himself_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v especial_o please_v and_o delightful_a unto_o they_o and_o satisfy_v they_o in_o any_o condition_n yea_o it_o be_v comfortable_a in_o all_o our_o own_o weakness_n and_o inability_n which_o be_v upon_o we_o it_o fall_v out_o to_o be_v sometime_o the_o case_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n that_o they_o be_v hardly_o able_a friend_n in_o the_o thing_n itself_o but_o likewise_o in_o some_o circumstance_n of_o signify_v as_o much_o unto_o they_o though_o it_o be_v better_a they_o shall_v know_v it_o in_o the_o event_n and_o by_o the_o efficacy_n of_o it_o to_o themselves_o yet_o there_o may_v be_v some_o case_n and_o cause_n sometime_o for_o the_o discovery_n of_o as_o much_o unto_o they_o as_o st._n paul_n frequent_o in_o his_o epistle_n make_v request_n for_o you_o and_o remember_v you_o in_o my_o prayer_n etc._n etc._n partly_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o love_n and_o affection_n between_o christian_a and_o christian_n which_o hereby_o be_v very_o much_o preserve_v partly_o also_o for_o the_o stir_v up_o of_o our_o brethren_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o like_a office_n of_o love_n for_o ourselves_o as_o we_o have_v occasion_n for_o it_o and_o partly_o again_o to_o secure_v one_o another_o as_o to_o the_o state_n and_o condition_n in_o which_o we_o be_v who_o have_v a_o stock_n of_o prayer_n go_v for_o we_o and_o be_v according_o inform_v of_o it_o may_v from_o hence_o be_v more_o comfort_v in_o ourselves_o and_o thus_o do_v our_o saviour_n here_o to_o peter_n in_o this_o intimation_n i_o have_v pray_v for_o thou_o before_o we_o let_v go_v this_o passage_n there_o be_v somewhat_o here_o further_o to_o be_v observe_v from_o this_o adversative_a particle_n but._n but_o i_o have_v pray_v for_o thou_o which_o stand_v in_o opposition_n to_o that_o which_o be_v say_v before_o concern_v satan_n desire_n satan_n have_v desire_v to_o have_v you_o but_o i_o have_v pray_v for_o thou_o which_o he_o add_v by_o way_n of_o consolation_n and_o to_o prevent_v discouragement_n in_o peter_n and_o in_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o disciple_n it_o be_v a_o grievous_a thing_n for_o they_o to_o hear_v of_o satan_n attempt_n that_o he_o lay_v wait_v to_o catch_v and_o entrap_v they_o and_o desire_v to_o ensnare_v they_o yea_o but_o here_o be_v now_o that_o which_o qualify_v it_o be_v to_o be_v look_v upon_o by_o we_o not_o distinct_o only_o in_o themselves_o but_o conjunctive_o with_o reference_n to_o those_o which_o go_v before_o peter_n conversion_n of_o himself_o and_o peter_n strengthen_v of_o his_o brethren_n which_o go_v hand_n in_o hand_n together_o and_o have_v a_o mutual_a respect_n to_o each_o other_o as_o they_o here_o lie_v in_o the_o text_n and_o so_o have_v also_o all_o other_o beside_o so_o that_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o be_v here_o observable_a of_o we_o first_o here_o be_v a_o enlargement_n of_o personal_a conversion_n to_o fraternal_a confirmation_n he_o that_o be_v convert_v himself_o he_o must_v withal_o strengthen_v his_o brethren_n second_o here_o be_v a_o confinement_n of_o fraternal_a confirmation_n to_o personal_a conversion_n he_o that_o will_v strengthen_v his_o brethren_n he_o must_v himself_o first_o be_v convert_v each_o of_o these_o be_v signify_v to_o we_o in_o this_o connexion_n first_o i_o say_v here_o be_v a_o enlargement_n of_o personal_a conversion_n to_o fraternal_a or_o brotherly_a confirmation_n he_o that_o be_v convert_v himself_o he_o must_v strengthen_v his_o brethren_n he_o that_o have_v partake_v of_o god_n grace_n in_o his_o own_o recovery_n from_o temptation_n and_o the_o consequent_n of_o it_o he_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v to_o be_v useful_a and_o helpful_a to_o other_o who_o he_o converse_v withal_o to_o this_o purpose_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v here_o before_o we_o in_o this_o expression_n when_o thou_o be_v convert_v strengthen_v etc._n etc._n our_o bless_a saviour_n take_v care_n here_o for_o peter_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v convert_v and_o that_o he_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o convert_v himself_o but_o he_o will_v not_o have_v he_o to_o stay_v here_o no_o but_o to_o labour_v moreover_o for_o the_o conversion_n and_o restauration_n of_o other_o be_v convert_v himself_o that_o his_o brethren_n shall_v be_v convert_v with_o he_o there_o be_v two_o evil_n in_o temptation_n which_o it_o do_v common_o cause_n to_o those_o which_o be_v overtake_v with_o it_o and_o so_o consequent_o there_o be_v two_o benefit_n which_o be_v cause_v by_o strengthen_v after_o it_o first_o in_o matter_n of_o grace_n and_o second_o in_o matter_n of_o comfort_n temptation_n it_o make_v a_o breach_n upon_o both_o it_o make_v a_o breach_n upon_o our_o grace_n as_o it_o do_v corrupt_v we_o and_o defile_v we_o with_o sin_n and_o it_o make_v a_o breach_n upon_o our_o comfort_n as_o it_o do_v afflict_v we_o and_o fill_v we_o with_o horror_n and_o fear_v of_o punishment_n now_o in_o either_o of_o these_o respect_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o those_o who_o be_v themselves_o deliver_v from_o temptation_n and_o so_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o text_n convert_v to_o strengthen_v their_o brethren_n this_o be_v the_o practice_n of_o the_o prophet_n david_n and_o that_o which_o he_o aim_v at_o himself_o in_o this_o condition_n as_o we_o may_v see_v in_o psal_n 51.12_o 13._o restore_v unto_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n and_o establish_v i_o with_o thy_o free_a spirit_n then_o will_v i_o teach_v transgressor_n thy_n way_n and_o sinner_n shall_v be_v convert_v unto_o thou_o david_n be_v refresh_v himself_o will_v instruct_v other_o and_o be_v convert_v or_o restore_v himself_o will_v convert_v and_o restore_v other_o sinner_n shall_v be_v convert_v unto_o thou_o that_o be_v in_o the_o study_n and_o endeavour_v after_o conversion_n david_n can_v not_o assure_v himself_o that_o all_o those_o who_o he_o teach_v and_o instruct_v shall_v be_v real_o and_o actual_o convert_v no_o more_o than_o any_o other_o teacher_n beside_o can_v promise_v himself_o but_o he_o mean_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o course_n and_o way_n which_o shall_v be_v take_v for_o it_o they_o shall_v be_v convert_v so_o far_o as_o i_o can_v help_v it_o and_o can_v any_o way_n further_o their_o conversion_n which_o i_o will_v be_v no_o way_n defective_a in_o thus_o do_v david_n in_o his_o present_a condition_n and_o so_o shall_v other_o do_v likewise_o as_o they_o see_v any_o stand_n in_o need_n of_o assistance_n more_o than_o other_o in_o such_o and_o such_o condition_n so_o to_o be_v helpful_a to_o they_o and_o that_o in_o divers_a respect_n first_o in_o a_o way_n of_o faithfulness_n as_o close_v with_o that_o end_n for_o which_o they_o be_v convert_v themselves_o the_o reason_n why_o god_n do_v bestow_v such_o a_o measure_n of_o grace_n or_o comfort_n upon_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a christian_a it_o be_v not_o for_o himself_o only_o but_o for_o other_o that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v so_o much_o the_o better_a or_o comfortable_a for_o his_o sake_n the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o the_o rest_n the_o eye_n it_o do_v not_o see_v for_o itself_o but_o for_o the_o whole_a body_n and_o the_o ear_n it_o do_v not_o hear_v for_o itself_o but_o for_o the_o whole_a body_n whatever_o excellency_n one_o do_v partake_v of_o it_o be_v for_o the_o improvement_n of_o the_o whole_a even_o so_o be_v it_o likewise_o or_o at_o least_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o mystical_a body_n which_o be_v the_o church_n whatever_o good_a any_o one_o christian_a partake_v of_o it_o be_v for_o the_o good_a and_o advancement_n of_o his_o brethren_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o comfort_n can_v better_o testify_v our_o acknowledgement_n of_o god_n goodness_n in_o the_o bestow_n of_o grace_n or_o comfort_n upon_o our_o own_o soul_n than_o by_o impart_v and_o communicate_v it_o to_o other_o true_a thankfulness_n it_o have_v for_o the_o most_o part_n joy_n with_o it_o and_o joy_n it_o be_v a_o spread_a affection_n it_o delight_v to_o diffuse_v itself_o abroad_o it_o be_v not_o more_o that_o sinner_n be_v convert_v the_o more_o be_v god_n honour_v and_o that_o shall_v take_v with_o a_o gracious_a heart_n herein_o be_v my_o father_n glorify_v etc._n etc._n say_v our_o saviour_n this_o be_v that_o which_o we_o shall_v all_o be_v very_o much_o fire_v and_o inflame_v withal_o to_o set_v we_o on_o work_n in_o this_o business_n as_o we_o see_v it_o be_v not_o only_o with_o david_n but_o also_o with_o paul_n and_o divers_a other_o of_o the_o saint_n last_o out_o of_o love_n to_o ourselves_o and_o our_o own_o good_a qui_fw-la docet_fw-la indoctos_fw-la etc._n etc._n the_o more_o we_o strengthen_v other_o the_o more_o indeed_o do_v we_o confirm_v ourselves_o whether_o in_o grace_n or_o comfort_n we_o

and_o a_o great_a interruption_n of_o our_o converse_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n when_o we_o shall_v but_o sit_v down_o and_o consider_v with_o ourselves_o the_o sad_a effect_n and_o consequent_n of_o sin_n in_o all_o particular_n which_o it_o do_v create_v and_o produce_v to_o those_o who_o make_v bold_a with_o it_o and_o that_o take_v scope_n and_o liberty_n in_o it_o we_o have_v very_o be_v have_v esteem_v it_o so_o much_o as_o they_o shall_v and_o therefore_o though_o there_o be_v other_o end_n for_o the_o withdraw_n of_o it_o yet_o it_o may_v also_o have_v this_o influence_n upon_o they_o so_o as_o to_o humble_v they_o for_o their_o former_a neglect_n that_o they_o may_v bewail_v their_o ingratitude_n and_o unthankfulness_n for_o so_o great_a a_o favour_n as_o the_o presence_n of_o so_o gration_n a_o master_n and_o so_o in_o this_o particular_a which_o we_o now_o speak_v of_o god_n do_v oftentimes_o take_v away_o such_o opportunity_n that_o man_n may_v reflect_v upon_o their_o former_a senslesness_n and_o inapprehensiveness_n of_o the_o mercy_n which_o they_o do_v enjoy_v and_o according_o be_v assect_v with_o it_o as_o it_o become_v they_o to_o be_v second_o as_o unthankfulness_n so_o also_o which_o be_v annex_v to_o it_o unfruitfulness_n and_o unprofitableness_n under_o such_o mean_n god_n never_o appoint_v his_o ministry_n as_o a_o compliment_n and_o business_n of_o state_n which_o man_n shall_v have_v here_o by_o they_o only_o for_o fashion_n and_o never_o to_o do_v any_o good_a with_o it_o but_o for_o improvement_n and_o edification_n the_o manifestation_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v give_v to_o every_o man_n to_o profit_n with_o all_o as_o that_o they_o shall_v profit_v other_o who_o be_v endue_v with_o it_o so_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v profit_v by_o it_o for_o who_o sake_n also_o it_o be_v give_v now_o therefore_o where_o it_o cease_v to_o be_v so_o he_o be_v very_o much_o displease_v and_o because_o he_o be_v so_o now_o and_o then_o withdraw_v the_o exercise_n of_o it_o god_n will_v not_o have_v such_o precious_a liquor_n as_o this_o be_v to_o run_v waste_n but_o be_v gather_v up_o and_o make_v use_n of_o and_o where_o it_o be_v otherwise_o himself_o will_v restrain_v it_o and_o deny_v it_o and_o keep_v it_o up_o three_o spiritual_a wantonness_n and_o curiosity_n and_o affectation_n when_o god_n shall_v afford_v we_o the_o gift_n and_o pain_n of_o his_o servant_n and_o we_o be_v continual_o except_v against_o they_o and_o quarrel_v with_o they_o and_o diminish_v from_o they_o this_o do_v provoke_v god_n exceed_o in_o this_o particular_a when_o we_o have_v good_a and_o wholesome_a food_n provide_v for_o we_o and_o we_o loathe_v it_o and_o scorn_v it_o and_o despise_v it_o as_o the_o israelite_n do_v their_o quail_n and_o manna_n this_o light_a bread_n as_o they_o call_v it_o god_n will_v then_o in_o such_o case_n as_o those_o be_v make_v they_o to_o know_v what_o it_o be_v as_o child_n when_o they_o begin_v to_o paly_a with_o their_o victual_n their_o parent_n then_o take_v it_o away_o from_o they_o these_o and_o the_o like_a miscarriage_n which_o we_o may_v think_v of_o be_v the_o cause_n and_o occasion_n of_o such_o deal_n from_o god_n in_o this_o business_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o use_n of_o this_o observation_n by_o inquire_v into_o the_o occasion_n second_o see_v the_o deprival_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n be_v so_o sad_a and_o comfortless_o a_o condition_n therefore_o we_o shall_v the_o more_o careful_o improve_v they_o at_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v they_o have_v present_o the_o better_a gift_n there_o be_v a_o affectation_n in_o some_o kind_n of_o person_n after_o singular_a and_o peculiar_a ability_n according_a to_o which_o they_o do_v ordinary_o reckon_v and_o account_v of_o themselves_o though_o the_o thing_n in_o their_o own_o nature_n be_v but_o indeed_o of_o common_a consideration_n thus_o it_o be_v with_o some_o scholar_n just_a as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o book_n which_o have_v a_o price_n set_v upon_o they_o more_o from_o their_o scarcity_n and_o hardness_n to_o be_v get_v than_o from_o the_o matter_n and_o composure_n of_o they_o or_o any_o intrinsical_a worth_a which_o be_v in_o they_o but_o this_o be_v not_o such_o a_o betterness_n as_o the_o apostle_n do_v intend_v in_o this_o place_n second_o gift_n be_v sometime_o count_v better_a as_o they_o be_v more_o glorious_a and_o conspicuous_a and_o plausible_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n thus_o there_o be_v some_o which_o be_v especial_o more_o than_o other_o which_o have_v a_o great_a lustre_n upon_o they_o and_o do_v more_o appear_v and_o vent_v themselves_o abroad_o to_o the_o approbation_n of_o other_o man_n which_o yet_o notwithstanding_o simple_o consider_v be_v not_o the_o better_a gift_n nor_o real_o so_o to_o be_v esteem_v this_o be_v that_o wherein_o the_o false_a apostle_n have_v a_o advantage_n over_o the_o apostle_n paul_n and_o whereby_o they_o do_v work_v themselves_o into_o the_o heart_n and_o affection_n of_o the_o corinthian_n to_o the_o disparagement_n and_o diminution_n of_o he_o with_o they_o
