abundance_n and_o superfluity_n for_o that_o which_o be_v more_o than_o necessary_a as_o when_o man_n desire_v always_o to_o be_v in_o the_o fashion_n and_o to_o change_v their_o apparel_n as_o the_o fashion_n change_v they_o be_v carry_v with_o a_o ungodly_a care_n second_o when_o man_n care_v for_o costly_a apparel_n beyond_o their_o degree_n state_n and_o ability_n that_o be_v also_o inordinate_a care_n for_o apparel_n example_n of_o this_o also_o be_v rise_v in_o our_o time_n when_o every_o ordinary_a man_n desire_v to_o be_v fine_a in_o apparel_n and_o no_o man_n be_v content_a with_o that_o which_o be_v decent_a and_o fit_a for_o his_o call_n but_o the_o tradesman_n his_o care_n be_v to_o be_v apparel_v like_o the_o gentleman_n the_o gentleman_n like_o the_o knight_n the_o knight_n like_o the_o noble_a man_n and_o thus_o every_o person_n affect_v the_o apparel_n of_o a_o high_a state_n yea_o every_o servant_n so_o the_o time_n be_v now_o spend_v the_o great_a part_n of_o his_o wage_n yea_o and_o more_o than_o his_o wage_n come_v to_o in_o apparel_n three_o when_o much_o time_n be_v spend_v in_o the_o curious_a apparel_v of_o the_o body_n as_o though_o we_o can_v mend_v the_o form_n of_o our_o body_n and_o as_o if_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o do_v his_o part_n sufficient_o the_o time_n and_o pain_n may_v be_v much_o better_o employ_v &_o spend_v in_o matter_n of_o salvation_n now_o to_o come_v to_o the_o point_n christ_n forbid_v not_o here_o a_o moderate_a care_n for_o raiment_n but_o the_o inordinate_a care_n to_o provide_v apparel_n superfluous_a sumptuous_a and_o curious_a which_o be_v join_v with_o the_o mispending_a of_o much_o time_n and_o money_n beyond_o our_o estate_n and_o ability_n now_o as_o i_o say_v before_o this_o inordinate_a and_o immoderate_a care_n be_v the_o common_a sin_n of_o these_o time_n in_o all_o place_n this_o be_v manifest_a and_o can_v be_v deny_v therefore_o let_v we_o all_o remember_v and_o reverence_v this_o commandment_n and_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o be_v not_o careful_a inordinate_o for_o raiment_n now_o he_o come_v to_o confirm_v the_o commandment_n by_o a_o four_o reason_n set_v down_o in_o this_o 28._o verse_n and_o in_o the_o 29._o and_o the_o 30._o verse_n learn_v how_o the_o lily_n grow_v etc._n etc._n the_o reason_n be_v worthy_a and_o excellent_a though_o it_o be_v borrow_v from_o sensible_a thing_n and_o thus_o it_o be_v frame_v if_o god_n clothe_v lily_n much_o more_o will_v he_o do_v you_o etc._n etc._n the_o first_o part_n be_v confirm_v in_o the_o 30._o verse_n thus_o the_o lily_n and_o so_o all_o the_o herb_n of_o the_o field_n be_v ordain_v for_o man_n use_n and_o for_o the_o furnace_n therefore_o man_n be_v more_o excellent_a than_o they_o be_v then_o if_o he_o own_o and_o this_o he_o do_v for_o special_a cause_n for_o first_o that_o creature_n in_o the_o field_n do_v more_o obey_v god_n in_o it_o kind_a than_o man_n do_v and_o that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v often_o testify_v isaiah_n 1._o hear_v o_o heaven_n and_o hearken_v etc._n etc._n and_o ezechiel_n speak_v to_o the_o mountain_n and_o the_o prophet_n that_o be_v send_v to_o reprove_v jeroboam_fw-la when_o he_o come_v where_o jeroboam_fw-la be_v he_o leave_v he_o and_o cry_n to_o the_o altar_n to_o hear_v he_o all_o this_o be_v to_o show_v that_o these_o unreasonable_a and_o field_n the_o second_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v because_o we_o do_v not_o learn_v the_o good_a thing_n which_o the_o creature_n can_v teach_v us._n though_o we_o have_v they_o see_v they_o and_o use_v they_o daily_o yet_o we_o do_v not_o learn_v all_o that_o of_o god_n which_o nature_n teach_v wherefore_o for_o good_a cause_n we_o be_v send_v to_o they_o to_o learn_v that_o which_o may_v be_v learn_v of_o the_o wisdom_n power_n providence_n mercy_n justice_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n be_v manifest_v in_o they_o &_o yet_o we_o mark_v it_o not_o for_o this_o cause_n christ_n know_v our_o want_n and_o behaviour_n say_v thus_o learn_v of_o the_o lily_n etc._n etc._n this_o serve_v to_o check_v we_o who_o do_v not_o learn_v so_o many_o good_a thing_n of_o god_n as_o these_o creature_n can_v teach_v how_o then_o shall_v we_o learn_v the_o doctrine_n of_o salvation_n so_o much_o for_o this_o point_n that_o christ_n say_v learn_v of_o the_o lily_n and_o by_o learning_n consider_v now_o what_o be_v the_o thing_n to_o be_v learn_v of_o the_o lily_n how_o they_o grow_v this_o be_v the_o point_n to_o be_v learned_a and_o consider_v they_o grow_v though_o they_o labour_v not_o nor_o spin_v and_o solomon_n himself_o be_v not_o clothe_v like_o one_o of_o these_o and_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n worth_a the_o mark_v for_o in_o the_o winter_n they_o be_v bury_v in_o the_o earth_n &_o appear_v no_o more_o than_o if_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v see_v and_o yet_o in_o the_o spring_n time_n of_o the_o year_n they_o grow_v up_o with_o stalk_n leaf_n flower_n and_o goodly_a colour_n now_o the_o point_n to_o be_v mark_v be_v this_o how_o all_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v they_o themselves_o do_v nothing_o neither_o do_v man_n any_o thing_n to_o make_v they_o grow_v what_o be_v it_o then_o that_o make_v they_o grow_v the_o cause_n be_v the_o word_n of_o creation_n which_o be_v give_v out_o by_o the_o creator_n in_o the_o beginning_n to_o the_o herb_n let_v the_o earth_n bring_v forth_o herb_n and_o tree_n by_o virtue_n of_o that_o commandment_n then_o deliver_v to_o the_o earth_n the_o earth_n now_o though_o it_o be_v freeze_v in_o the_o winter_n cover_v with_o snow_n and_o harden_v with_o frost_n as_o though_o there_o shall_v never_o be_v any_o hope_n for_o the_o lily_n or_o other_o herb_n to_o grow_v yet_o it_o bring_v forth_o all_o in_o the_o spring_n and_o that_o with_o beautiful_a colour_n and_o all_o by_o virtue_n of_o god_n commandment_n in_o the_o same_o manner_n to_o come_v to_o the_o point_n god_n have_v give_v a_o word_n of_o providence_n over_o his_o servant_n that_o if_o they_o trust_v in_o he_o he_o will_v provide_v they_o necessary_n all_o necessary_n whatsoever_o so_o as_o there_o shall_v be_v nothing_o want_v that_o be_v necessary_a if_o they_o trust_v in_o he_o this_o word_n be_v certain_a set_v down_o and_o as_o unchangeable_a as_o the_o word_n of_o creation_n if_o man_n believe_v it_o they_o shall_v have_v meat_n drink_n and_o cloth_n as_o certain_o as_o the_o flower_n and_o herb_n and_o grass_n come_v out_o of_o the_o earth_n this_o be_v the_o point_n here_o offer_v to_o our_o consideration_n they_o grow_v by_o the_o virtue_n of_o god_n
way_n and_o to_o practice_v the_o work_n of_o our_o call_n but_o only_o to_o teach_v we_o to_o leave_v the_o success_n to_o god_n to_o make_v this_o more_o plain_a put_v the_o case_n of_o any_o tradesman_n he_o be_v to_o practice_v the_o work_n of_o his_o call_n as_o if_o it_o be_v to_o buy_v or_o sell_v he_o may_v do_v it_o with_o diligence_n without_o wrong_v any_o but_o the_o success_n must_v be_v refer_v to_o god_n for_o that_o take_v no_o care_n but_o leave_v all_o to_o he_o the_o like_a commandment_n we_o have_v phil._n 4._o 6._o be_v not_o careful_a &c_n &c_n what_o then_o but_o in_o all_o thing_n let_v your_o prayer_n be_v make_v to_o god_n with_o supplication_n and_o thanks_n give_v mark_v there_o how_o care_n be_v oppose_v to_o prayer_n and_o thanks_n give_v all_o care_n be_v not_o forbid_v there_o but_o immoderate_a care_n only_o we_o must_v be_v careful_a of_o our_o duty_n but_o not_o of_o the_o success_n of_o our_o labour_n for_o the_o blessing_n be_v not_o careful_a but_o commend_v it_o to_o god_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a commandment_n to_o be_v remember_v and_o practise_v of_o all_o man_n in_o all_o calling_n it_o be_v the_o double_a care_n that_o be_v forbid_v thus_o you_o see_v what_o you_o be_v to_o do_v in_o the_o compass_n of_o your_o calling_n quest._n how_o can_v we_o do_v this_o it_o be_v too_o hard_a a_o commandment_n flesh_n and_o blood_n can_v keep_v it_o answer_n do_v but_o remember_v what_o bless_a promise_n god_n have_v make_v to_o they_o that_o obey_v he_o and_o we_o can_v but_o make_v conscience_n to_o obey_v this_o some_o rise_v early_o go_v late_o to_o bed_n and_o yet_o be_v never_o the_o rich_a 1._o but_o god_n give_v sleep_n to_o his_o belove_a such_o as_o obey_v he_o shall_v have_v rest_n and_o sleep_v they_o shall_v with_o quietness_n reap_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o labour_n the_o lion_n shall_v be_v starve_v 10._o but_o they_o that_o fear_v god_n shall_v lack_v nothing_o though_o the_o lion_n use_v raven_a and_o get_v their_o prey_n by_o violence_n yet_o they_o shall_v want_v soon_o than_o the_o child_n of_o god_n if_o we_o have_v no_o more_o commandment_n in_o all_o the_o bible_n but_o this_o it_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a to_o work_v this_o effect_n in_o we_o after_o due_a labour_n and_o diligence_n use_v in_o our_o calling_n to_o refer_v the_o success_n thereof_o unto_o god_n we_o ought_v to_o trust_v god_n and_o believe_v his_o promise_n and_o not_o distrust_v his_o providence_n if_o we_o will_v not_o trust_v god_n in_o these_o outward_a thing_n how_o shall_v we_o trust_v he_o in_o the_o keep_n of_o our_o soul_n in_o time_n of_o temptation_n and_o in_o death_n therefore_o commend_v all_o to_o god_n and_o for_o the_o success_n live_v by_o faith_n quest._n how_o if_o all_o thing_n go_v cross_a and_o we_o find_v no_o blessing_n in_o our_o labour_n may_v we_o not_o provide_v for_o ourselves_o answer_n cast_v thy_o care_n on_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o know_v what_o be_v soul_n and_o apparel_n to_o the_o body_n yet_o we_o know_v that_o the_o apparel_n be_v a_o mean_n to_o preserve_v the_o life_n too_o as_o well_o as_o meat_n and_o drink_v and_o yet_o christ_n conclude_v it_o and_o that_o for_o just_a cause_n for_o though_o in_o some_o country_n the_o use_n of_o apparel_n be_v to_o cherish_v the_o body_n and_o to_o continue_v life_n yet_o the_o general_a and_o first_o use_n of_o it_o be_v not_o for_o the_o life_n but_o it_o respect_v a_o high_a matter_n it_o serve_v for_o the_o body_n itself_o i_o say_v in_o respect_n of_o a_o certain_a shame_n that_o be_v set_v upon_o it_o the_o majesty_n of_o the_o body_n be_v lose_v and_o the_o nakedness_n of_o it_o be_v now_o a_o thing_n full_a of_o shame_n and_o confusion_n and_o our_o apparel_n serve_v to_o cover_v this_o shame_n so_o the_o proper_a and_o principal_a end_n of_o apparel_n be_v this_o to_o cover_v the_o body_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o shame_n which_o befall_v we_o after_o the_o fall_n yea_o the_o truth_n be_v we_o shall_v be_v all_o cover_v hand_n and_o face_n and_o all_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o other_o necessary_a use_n in_o regard_n of_o which_o we_o keep_v they_o bare_a and_o uncover_v and_o if_o that_o fall_n have_v not_o be_v the_o naked_a body_n have_v be_v full_a of_o majesty_n this_o point_n be_v consider_v we_o must_v learn_v never_o to_o be_v puff_v up_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o apparel_n but_o rather_o to_o be_v abash_v and_o confound_v so_o oft_o as_o we_o put_v it_o on_o or_o look_v upon_o it_o for_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o badge_n to_o cover_v the_o shame_n of_o our_o body_n with_o therefore_o it_o be_v as_o great_a a_o madness_n for_o any_o to_o be_v puff_v up_o because_o of_o their_o apparel_n as_o it_o be_v for_o a_o prisoner_n to_o be_v proud_a of_o the_o bolt_n on_o his_o leg_n the_o brand_n on_o his_o hand_n or_o the_o hole_n in_o his_o care_n therefore_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o think_v of_o our_o sin_n when_o we_o look_v on_o our_o apparel_n and_o to_o be_v abash_v abase_v and_o humble_v in_o remembrance_n of_o it_o we_o must_v express_v all_o the_o grace_n and_o gift_n of_o god_n that_o be_v in_o we_o so_o much_o as_o we_o can_v even_o in_o our_o apparel_n as_o sobriety_n temperance_n frugality_n &_o such_o like_a they_o be_v to_o be_v declare_v in_o the_o very_a garment_n so_o much_o of_o that_o point_n now_o it_o follow_v be_v not_o the_o life_n more_o worth_a etc._n etc._n after_o he_o have_v give_v a_o most_o excellent_a commandment_n to_o the_o end_n it_o may_v not_o go_v without_o his_o effect_n he_o enforce_v it_o with_o diverse_a argument_n of_o weight_n first_o say_v be_v not_o the_o life_n more_o worth_a than_o meat_n etc._n etc._n the_o reason_n stand_v thus_o the_o life_n be_v more_o excellent_a they_o meat_n and_o drink_v and_o the_o body_n be_v better_a than_o the_o apparel_n now_o god_n give_v the_o life_n and_o the_o body_n and_o do_v preserve_v they_o therefore_o he_o will_v much_o more_o give_v food_n and_o apparel_n the_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o the_o creation_n he_o that_o be_v a_o creator_n will_v preserve_v his_o work_n in_o this_o reason_n christ_n teach_v we_o how_o we_o shall_v make_v use_n of_o our_o creation_n by_o a_o consideration_n of_o it_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o come_v to_o a_o confidence_n of_o god_n providence_n and_o to_o trust_v in_o he_o for_o all_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n for_o he_o will_v preserve_v his_o workmanship_n job_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o ten_o chapter_n persuade_v himself_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o destroy_v he_o because_o he_o be_v the_o workmanship_n of_o his_o hand_n he_o make_v that_o a_o argument_n mark_v what_o use_n he_o make_v of_o his_o very_a creation_n commend_v yourselves_o to_o to_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o god_n have_v god_n give_v we_o life_n and_o a_o body_n and_o will_v he_o not_o give_v we_o food_n and_o raiment_n it_o can_v be_v thus_o god_n teach_v we_o his_o providence_n by_o the_o creation_n and_o confidence_n in_o it_o 26_o behold_v the_o fowl_n of_o the_o heaven_n
certain_a use_n in_o time_n to_o come_v now_o i_o answer_v to_o the_o first_o question_n viz._n how_o far_o a_o man_n may_v seek_v &_o provide_v for_o worldly_a wealth_n i_o say_v that_o thing_n necessary_a for_o nature_n for_o a_o man_n person_n &_o place_n may_v be_v seek_v for_o and_o lay_v up_o but_o here_o be_v a_o bar_n put_v in_o by_o god_n himself_o we_o may_v go_v no_o further_o we_o may_v not_o seek_v for_o abundance_n or_o superfluity_n the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v allege_v in_o the_o 30._o chapter_n of_o the_o proverbe_n the_o 8._o and_o 9_o verse_n where_o it_o be_v say_v give_v i_o not_o poverty_n nor_o riches_n feed_v i_o with_o food_n convement_n for_o i_o lest_o i_o be_v full_a and_o deny_v thou_o and_o say_v who_o be_v the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n that_o which_o we_o must_v ask_v of_o god_n that_o we_o may_v seek_v for_o and_o no_o more_o but_o we_o have_v no_o warrant_n to_o ask_v at_o god_n hand_n abundance_n or_o superfluity_n therefore_o we_o may_v not_o it_o be_v god_n commandment_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v content_a with_o thing_n necessary_a and_o seek_v no_o further_o therefore_o we_o must_v be_v obedient_a and_o content_a second_o a_o man_n that_o be_v too_o greedy_a to_o lay_v up_o much_o can_v hardly_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n but_o must_v needs_o use_v some_o unjust_a mean_n three_o such_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o devil_n snare_n 1._o tim._n 6._o 9_o four_o in_o persecution_n and_o time_n of_o trial_n the_o rich_a will_v hardly_o confess_v christ_n &_o hold_v out_o but_o will_v be_v the_o more_o easy_o draw_v from_o christ_n and_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o truth_n because_o their_o mind_n be_v glue_v to_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n hereunto_o may_v be_v add_v the_o example_n of_o many_o saint_n who_o have_v be_v content_v with_o little_a that_o they_o may_v serve_v god_n the_o better_a and_o also_o christ_n admonition_n how_o hard_o it_o be_v for_o a_o rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n thus_o much_o of_o the_o first_o practice_n of_o covetousness_n which_o be_v excessive_a seek_v of_o good_n without_o all_o measure_n the_o second_o practice_n be_v when_o worldly_a good_n be_v seek_v only_o and_o principal_o which_o practice_n christ_n meet_v withal_o when_o he_o say_v first_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n this_o be_v esau_n sin_n and_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o gadaren_n math._n 8._o who_o prefer_v worldly_a good_n before_o spiritual_a treasure_n and_o this_o may_v be_v call_v unreasonable_a disorder_n preposterousnesse_n worldliness_n etc._n do_v this_o they_o will_v not_o sin_v we_o be_v not_o able_a by_o the_o natural_a eye_n of_o our_o understanding_n to_o judge_v of_o our_o own_o frailty_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o age_a man_n think_v he_o may_v yet_o live_v long_o because_o the_o mind_n be_v corrupt_v we_o can_v discern_v the_o frailness_n of_o our_o own_o eye_n we_o can_v judge_v aright_o of_o the_o scope_n of_o our_o own_o life_n but_o nature_n teach_v we_o to_o seek_v ourselves_o more_o than_o god_n or_o our_o own_o good_a more_o than_o his_o glory_n the_o mind_n be_v unable_a to_o judge_v of_o our_o own_o happiness_n for_o this_o be_v all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n to_o think_v that_o felicity_n do_v consist_v in_o outward_a and_o earthly_a thing_n as_o riches_n honour_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o we_o account_v the_o rich_a happy_a and_o the_o poor_a miserable_a therefore_o the_o first_o point_n be_v clear_a that_o the_o mind_n have_v lose_v the_o gift_n of_o judge_v and_o discern_v the_o second_o follow_v the_o flesh_n but_o also_o the_o evil_a temptation_n of_o satan_n which_o be_v cast_v into_o it_o the_o mind_n be_v ready_a to_o follow_v they_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v evil_a it_o hence_o first_o always_o remember_v this_o that_o christ_n leave_v somewhat_o to_o be_v supply_v namely_o that_o this_o evil_a eye_n be_v in_o all_o man_n by_o nature_n and_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o man_n can_v discern_v wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o labour_v to_o see_v and_o discern_v this_o wickedness_n of_o the_o eye_n in_o the_o mind_n it_o be_v the_o first_o step_n to_o knowledge_n to_o see_v that_o we_o can_v see_v that_o we_o can_v judge_v and_o discern_v of_o heavenly_a thing_n as_o we_o ought_v we_o shall_v never_o know_v god_n aright_o nor_o ourselves_o till_o we_o see_v that_o we_o can_v see_v also_o we_o must_v bewail_v this_o blindness_n and_o tremble_v for_o it_o the_o sense_n and_o apprehension_n of_o bodily_a darkness_n be_v grievous_a unto_o we_o much_o more_o ought_v corrupt_a and_o blind_a by_o nature_n be_v the_o cause_n why_o man_n can_v distinguish_v thing_n that_o differ_v from_o the_o scope_n one_o profitable_a admonition_n must_v be_v renew_a that_o be_v both_o in_o reason_n and_o also_o by_o experience_n one_o servant_n may_v serve_v two_o diverse_a master_n as_o we_o see_v one_o factor_n may_v and_o do_v well_o serve_v diveser_fw-ge merchant_n therefore_o how_o can_v this_o be_v that_o christ_n say_v here_o some_o answer_n it_o thus_o that_o the_o word_n must_v be_v conceive_v after_o this_o manner_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v two_o diverse_a or_o contrary_a master_n as_o for_o example_n when_o one_o shall_v say_v come_v and_o a_o other_o shall_v say_v come_v not_o when_o two_o master_n be_v thus_o contrary_a &_o diverse_a in_o their_o mind_n and_o will_n one_o servant_n can_v serve_v both_o and_o so_o these_o word_n carry_v a_o holy_a truth_n but_o this_o clause_n of_o diverse_a and_o contrary_a be_v not_o express_v therefore_o i_o say_v further_o that_o this_o sentence_n be_v a_o common_a proverb_n among_o they_o now_o in_o a_o proverb_n if_o it_o be_v usual_o or_o general_o true_a though_o it_o hold_v not_o always_o if_o it_o have_v effect_v ordinary_o it_o be_v enough_o as_o no_o prophet_n be_v honour_v in_o his_o own_o country_n that_o be_v usual_o and_o common_o it_o be_v so_o so_o this_o proverb_n be_v true_a ordinary_o and_o thus_o this_o sentence_n must_v be_v understand_v as_o a_o familiar_a proverb_n usual_a and_o common_a among_o the_o jew_n which_o christ_n take_v for_o the_o ground_n of_o his_o speech_n now_o it_o follow_v for_o either_o he_o shall_v hate_v the_o one_o that_o be_v as_o he_o be_v a_o master_n or_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o commandment_n and_o he_o shall_v love_v 2000_o etc._n etc._n and_o thus_o much_o land_n rent_n and_o revennewe_n i_o must_v needs_o have_v it_o i_o can_v live_v else_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o make_v no_o such_o law_n to_o yourselves_o for_o then_o follow_v all_o the_o practice_n that_o tend_v to_o the_o compass_v of_o this_o resolution_n it_o be_v a_o common_a practice_n among_o man_n they_o will_v have_v thus_o much_o in_o stock_n and_o thus_o much_o in_o revenue_n whereas_o indeed_o a_o little_a with_o god_n blessing_n be_v wealth_n enough_o three_o let_v every_o man_n be_v content_v with_o that_o portion_n which_o god_n have_v allot_v he_o evermore_o remember_v that_o godliness_n be_v great_a gain_n if_o we_o be_v content_a therefore_o away_o with_o this_o covetous_a mind_n and_o be_v content_a with_o god_n good_a providence_n the_o heart_n must_v not_o be_v divide_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n god_n must_v have_v all_o or_o none_o you_o can_v serve_v both_o there_o be_v no_o part_n of_o stake_n other_o nay_o sin_n and_o satan_n the_o use_n of_o this_o be_v to_o discover_v hypocrite_n when_o man_n live_v in_o many_o sin_n if_o they_o come_v to_o the_o congregation_n to_o hear_v and_o pray_v and_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n though_o they_o lie_v and_o live_v in_o sin_n they_o may_v be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n for_o all_o that_o as_o the_o drunkard_n adulterer_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o every_o man_n bless_v himself_o in_o his_o sin_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o so_o many_o flatter_v themselves_o while_o they_o live_v in_o sin_n against_o their_o own_o conscience_n but_o they_o deceive_v themselves_o if_o they_o serve_v the_o devil_n in_o any_o sin_n they_o can_v serve_v god_n second_o every_o servant_n of_o god_n be_v so_o far_o forth_o regenerate_v renew_a and_o sanctify_a that_o not_o one_o sin_n reign_v in_o he_o for_o than_o he_o must_v serve_v two_o master_n so_o many_o sin_n reign_v in_o any_o man_n so_o many_o lord_n this_o doctrine_n must_v be_v receive_v regard_v reverence_v &_o remember_v three_o if_o the_o heart_n can_v be_v divide_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n let_v we_o all_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n worship_n god_n serve_v he_o serve_v two_o master_n answer_n all_o that_o have_v grace_n must_v needs_o say_v thus_o that_o their_o wicked_a nature_n do_v carry_v they_o a_o other_o way_n but_o they_o must_v stay_v their_o mind_n on_o this_o manner_n when_o they_o fail_v in_o obedience_n let_v they_o consider_v whether_o they_o do_v it_o willing_o or_o against_o their_o will_n thou_o will_v say_v unwilling_o and_o it_o grieve_v thou_o and_o thou_o be_v displease_v with_o thyself_o well_o if_o thou_o can_v say_v this_o be_v of_o good_a courage_n thou_o do_v not_o serve_v two_o master_n though_o there_o be_v in_o thou_o two_o contrary_n flesh_n and_o grace_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o two_o master_n therefore_o be_v not_o discourage_v for_o thou_o serve_v not_o both_o thou_o serve_v god_n and_o not_o the_o flesh_n nay_o if_o thou_o fail_v in_o obedience_n and_o be_v grieve_v for_o it_o god_n do_v accept_v thy_o will_n and_o endeavour_n for_o the_o deed_n remember_v this_o for_o every_o child_n of_o distrustful_a care_n your_o heavenly_a father_n know_v best_a what_o and_o how_o much_o of_o these_o temporal_a blessing_n be_v needful_a for_o you_o a_o most_o excellent_a reason_n and_o alone_o sufficient_a if_o this_o be_v so_o we_o ought_v to_o content_v ourselves_o in_o every_o state_n of_o life_n and_o use_v a_o moderate_a care_n yea_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v as_o well_o content_a with_o sickness_n when_o god_n send_v it_o as_o with_o health_n and_o give_v thanks_o alike_o for_o both_o we_o have_v a_o father_n in_o heaven_n when_o he_o send_v sickness_n he_o know_v it_o be_v better_a for_o we_o then_o health_n so_o when_o we_o be_v in_o poverty_n we_o ought_v as_o well_o to_o be_v content_a as_o with_o health_n for_o our_o father_n know_v this_o to_o be_v more_o for_o our_o good_a than_o plenty_n and_o abundance_n this_o aught_o also_o to_o make_v we_o content_v even_o when_o we_o lie_v a_o die_a and_o yield_v up_o the_o ghost_n for_o our_o father_n see_v it_o to_o be_v for_o our_o good_a when_o we_o die_v that_o we_o shall_v live_v no_o long_o so_o in_o any_o judgement_n of_o god_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v this_o aught_o to_o content_v we_o that_o we_o have_v a_o father_n and_o he_o know_v what_o be_v good_a for_o us._n therefore_o be_v it_o whatsoever_o it_o will_v be_v that_o god_n send_v it_o be_v good_a in_o the_o wisdom_n of_o our_o father_n though_o not_o in_o our_o carnal_a reason_n wherefore_o remember_v this_o for_o it_o will_v serve_v to_o pacify_v us._n for_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n we_o be_v so_o impatient_a in_o adversity_n and_o sickness_n but_o because_o we_o do_v not_o remember_v this_o therefore_o hold_v this_o by_o faith_n that_o we_o have_v a_o father_n in_o heaven_n &_o he_o know_v in_o his_o wisdom_n what_o be_v good_a for_o we_o better_o than_o we_o ourselves_o and_o in_o this_o faith_n and_o persuasion_n let_v we_o live_v and_o die_v and_o learn_v to_o be_v content_a in_o every_o estate_n 33._o but_o first_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o his_o righteousness_n and_o all_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o you_o hitherto_o have_v be_v show_v what_o care_n be_v to_o be_v eschew_v now_o follow_v the_o care_n to_o be_v use_v and_o this_o verse_n have_v two_o part_n viz._n a_o commandment_n or_o a_o exhortation_n and_o a_o promise_n i_o will_v speak_v first_o of_o the_o meaning_n and_o then_o of_o the_o instruction_n the_o commandment_n be_v two_o fold_n first_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n second_o his_o righteousness_n viz._n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n to_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o have_v a_o care_n to_o get_v it_o to_o labour_v and_o endeavour_n to_o obtain_v it_o seek_v this_o first_o this_o be_v above_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o have_v a_o care_n of_o this_o what_o be_v mean_v here_o by_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n it_o signify_v a_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o certain_a man_n which_o be_v in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o have_v right_a to_o life_n eternal_a by_o christ._n this_o very_a state_n be_v call_v in_o the_o scripture_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o of_o heaven_n and_o this_o kingdom_n be_v only_o one_o there_o be_v not_o two_o distinct_a kingdom_n of_o god_n but_o only_o one_o perfect_a and_o complete_a kingdom_n yet_o it_o have_v diverse_a degree_n viz._n first_o of_o grace_n second_o of_o glory_n the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n be_v that_o in_o which_o a_o man_n be_v rule_v by_o god_n word_n and_o spirit_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o step_n and_o entrance_n into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n be_v to_o have_v fellowship_n with_o the_o trinity_n after_o this_o life_n now_o both_o these_o degree_n be_v here_o understand_v by_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n it_o be_v further_a add_v and_o his_o righteousness_n the_o second_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v seek_v for_o above_o all_o and_o before_o all_o other_o thing_n whatsoever_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n whereby_o he_o make_v we_o righteous_a some_o have_v read_v it_o thus_o and_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o but_o the_o word_n will_v not_o bear_v the_o translation_n it_o must_v be_v as_o it_o be_v and_o no_o otherwise_o viz._n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v add_v for_o a_o weighty_a cause_n for_o god_n kingdom_n stand_v in_o righteousness_n god_n then_o reign_v in_o the_o hart_n of_o man_n and_o set_v up_o his_o kingdom_n there_o when_o he_o enable_v they_o to_o serve_v god_n in_o righteousness_n &_o then_o man_n be_v god_n subject_n and_o therefore_o these_o word_n be_v a_o excellent_a exposition_n of_o the_o former_a when_o god_n justify_v a_o sinner_n by_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n and_o enable_v he_o to_o obey_v god_n commandment_n this_o righteousness_n paul_n speak_v of_o rom._n 1._o 18._o 2._o cor._n 5._o 21._o he_o that_o know_v no_o sin_n be_v make_v sin_n for_o we_o that_o we_o may_v be_v make_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n &_o 1_o cor._n 1._o 3._o in_o all_o these_o and_o other_o place_n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n god_n and_o man_n which_o he_o perform_v in_o our_o behalf_n in_o his_o suffering_n and_o fulfil_a the_o law_n this_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o be_v so_o term_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o be_v indeed_o the_o groundwork_n and_o substance_n of_o the_o kingdom_n now_o it_o be_v so_o call_v for_o diverse_a cause_n first_o because_o it_o be_v give_v of_o god_n free_o and_o man_n can_v get_v it_o neither_o by_o nature_n nor_o grace_n there_o be_v a_o civil_a righteousness_n which_o man_n have_v by_o nature_n and_o a_o religiousnesse_n before_o man_n which_o be_v of_o grace_n but_o this_o be_v neither_o of_o they_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o reach_n of_o nature_n and_o grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n as_o a_o gift_n free_o give_v of_o god_n second_o because_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n god_n will_v approve_v of_o it_o and_o accept_v it_o as_o a_o perfect_a satisfaction_n of_o his_o law_n and_o nothing_o else_o be_v answerable_a to_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v also_o thus_o call_v because_o it_o be_v a_o righteousness_n which_o may_v be_v oppose_v to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n in_o the_o last_o judgement_n three_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n because_o he_o be_v such_o a_o person_n as_o be_v both_o god_n &_o man_n the_o son_n of_o the_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n 1._o cor._n 1._o 30._o now_o how_o be_v this_o obedience_n make_v we_o or_o how_o shall_v we_o come_v by_o it_o by_o imputation_n for_o god_n
