the_o beauty_n of_o it_o defile_v with_o the_o least_o spot_n and_o if_o that_o shall_v happen_v thou_o will_v endeavour_v to_o wash_v it_o away_o though_o little_a with_o river_n of_o tear_n but_o if_o by_o the_o same_o grace_n of_o god_n the_o inward_a eye_n may_v be_v open_v that_o thou_o may_v behold_v how_o filthy_a a_o soul_n be_v that_o sin_v what_o a_o unsavoury_a stench_n it_o send_v forth_o like_o a_o putrify_a body_n or_o carrion_n and_o how_o god_n and_o the_o holy_a angel_n loathe_v to_o look_v upon_o it_o although_o perhaps_o it_o inhabit_v a_o comely_a and_o beautiful_a body_n without_o doubt_n thou_o thyself_o will_v also_o so_o detest_v and_o abhor_v it_o as_o that_o thou_o will_v never_o be_v bring_v to_o be_v such_o a_o one_o or_o remain_v long_o in_o that_o state_n or_o condition_n degree_n ix_o by_o the_o consideration_n of_o angel_n we_o be_v now_o to_o come_v to_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o ascend_v to_o god_n from_o those_o thing_n which_o may_v be_v take_v from_o substance_n create_v for_o there_o be_v no_o create_a substance_n more_o sublime_a than_o the_o angelical_a if_o we_o speak_v only_o of_o natural_a perfection_n and_o there_o be_v three_o thing_n principal_o to_o be_v consider_v in_o they_o 1._o first_o according_a to_o the_o excellency_n of_o their_o nature_n 2._o second_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o sublimity_n of_o grace_n 3._o last_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o office_n neither_o be_v it_o our_o purpose_n to_o propound_v and_o handle_v the_o thing_n which_o concern_v they_o by_o way_n of_o disputation_n but_o to_o touch_v only_o those_o matter_n which_o may_v help_v we_o to_o the_o lift_v up_o of_o our_o mind_n to_o god._n 1._o a_o angel_n if_o we_o compare_v he_o to_o a_o reasonable_a and_o humane_a soul_n may_v fit_o be_v call_v a_o perfect_a soul_n as_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v term_v a_o unperfect_a angel_n for_o so_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v of_o man_n in_o respect_n of_o his_o soul_n thou_o have_v make_v he_o little_o low_a than_o the_o angel_n and_o indeed_o a_o 5._o angel_n be_v a_o entire_a perfect_a spiritâ—â—ll_a substance_n and_o man_n soul_n be_v but_o dimidiata_fw-la divide_v as_o it_o be_v into_o half_n and_o unperfect_a because_o as_o it_o be_v the_o form_n of_o the_o body_n it_o be_v part_n of_o man_n so_o that_o a_o angel_n be_v all_o spirit_n and_o a_o man_n part_n spirit_n part_n flesh_n or_o partly_o a_o angel_n partly_o a_o beast_n as_o if_o we_o shall_v say_v a_o angel_n be_v all_o gold_n and_o a_o man_n part_n gold_n and_o part_n earth_n or_o clay_n by_o which_o it_o follow_v that_o a_o angel_n be_v more_o like_a to_o god_n than_o a_o man_n or_o his_o soul_n because_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n not_o a_o body_n nor_o the_o shape_n of_o a_o body_n yet_o this_o but_o the_o substance_n aswell_o of_o spiritual_a as_o corporal_a thing_n therefore_o man_n while_o he_o be_v in_o this_o pilgrimage_n in_o asmuch_o as_o concern_v understanding_n be_v not_o only_o 3._o again_o though_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n can_v have_v bring_v forth_o and_o preserve_v herb_n and_o tree_n for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o all_o thing_n without_o the_o labour_n of_o man_n and_o other_o creature_n and_o without_o the_o help_n of_o the_o office_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o other_o secondary_a cause_n yet_o will_v he_o use_v the_o office_n of_o those_o cause_n and_o the_o labour_n of_o man_n and_o other_o creature_n because_o they_o shall_v not_o consume_v their_o time_n in_o idleness_n but_o that_o all_o thing_n shall_v exercise_v their_o several_a faculty_n and_o power_n beside_o god_n also_o will_v have_v some_o man_n to_o be_v rich_a other_o poor_a that_o every_o man_n may_v have_v occasion_n to_o live_v godly_a and_o be_v tie_v together_o in_o the_o bond_n of_o love_n that_o the_o rich_a may_v exercise_v mercy_n and_o liberality_n the_o poor_a patience_n and_o humility_n the_o rich_a shall_v need_v the_o poor_a man_n labour_n in_o till_v the_o ground_n feed_v his_o cattle_n and_o exercise_v several_a art_n necessary_a for_o all_o the_o poor_a shall_v want_v the_o rich-man_n money_n to_o buy_v they_o food_n apparel_n and_o other_o necessary_n for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o his_o life_n and_o yet_o the_o poor_a have_v no_o cause_n to_o complain_v against_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n for_o he_o who_o know_v and_o love_v all_o thing_n and_o man_n give_v unto_o every_o one_o that_o which_o he_o foresee_v most_o profitable_a to_o obtain_v everlasting_a life_n as_o physician_n prescribe_v fast_v to_o some_o patient_n and_o to_o open_v a_o vein_n to_o other_o they_o tolerate_v yea_o command_v flesh_n and_o wine_n to_o make_v they_o merry_a and_o revive_v their_o spirit_n and_o certain_o there_o be_v many_o poor_a man_n which_o in_o the_o state_n of_o poverty_n intend_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o their_o salvation_n who_o if_o they_o have_v be_v rich_a will_v have_v perish_v eternal_o and_o though_o rich_a man_n may_v be_v save_v if_o they_o study_v to_o be_v rich_a in_o good_a work_n and_o willing_o impart_v with_o that_o which_o they_o receive_v from_o god_n to_o communicate_v and_o not_o to_o hoard_v up_o yet_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o that_o the_o safe_a and_o plain_a way_n to_o
all_o away_o and_o that_o it_o be_v sometime_o mercy_n not_o to_o remove_v misery_n that_o a_o place_n may_v be_v prepare_v for_o great_a mercy_n the_o apostle_n pray_v three_o 8._o time_n to_o have_v the_o prieke_n of_o the_o flesh_n take_v from_o he_o but_o be_v not_o hear_v because_o god_n power_n may_v be_v show_v in_o weakness_n god_n take_v not_o away_o from_o lazarus_n 16._o the_o misery_n of_o poverty_n and_o sore_n that_o with_o the_o great_a mercy_n he_o may_v be_v carry_v by_o the_o angel_n into_o abraham_n bosom_n and_o where_o will_v there_o need_v the_o work_n of_o mercy_n from_o the_o rich_a if_o there_o be_v not_o poor_a hungry_a thirsty_a naked_a sick_a pilgrim_n and_o prisoner_n upon_o who_o they_o shall_v be_v exercise_v and_o if_o there_o be_v no_o tentation_n of_o the_o devil_n where_o shall_v be_v the_o reward_n for_o they_o which_o withstand_v they_o if_o labour_n and_o sorrow_n be_v not_o where_o will_v be_v the_o crown_n of_o patience_n and_o if_o no_o persecutor_n what_o will_v become_v of_o the_o crown_n of_o martyrdom_n and_o therefore_o in_o this_o pilgrimage_n both_o of_o these_o say_n may_v be_v true_a that_o the_o earth_n be_v full_a of_o misery_n because_o even_a sin_n themselves_o be_v misery_n and_o great_a one_o and_o the_o earth_n be_v full_a of_o the_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n because_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n and_o many_o almost_o infinite_a spiritual_a and_o temporal_a blessing_n of_o god_n what_o be_v they_o but_o continual_a and_o great_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o creator_n let_v we_o then_o give_v thanks_n to_o our_o good_a god_n for_o his_o mercy_n in_o that_o as_o our_o tribulation_n increase_v in_o this_o our_o pilgrimage_n so_o our_o comfort_n increase_v by_o his_o mercy_n to_o we_o thy_o mercy_n reach_v 5._o to_o the_o heaven_n say_v the_o psalmist_n to_o god_n because_o there_o shall_v be_v mercy_n without_o misery_n and_o because_o mercy_n shall_v take_v away_o all_o misery_n altogether_o now_o the_o longitude_n or_o length_n 2._o of_o god_n mercy_n be_v his_o long_a suffering_n or_o patience_n which_o the_o scripture_n use_v to_o join_v with_o mercy_n as_o a_o part_n or_o species_n of_o it_o for_o so_o speak_v the_o psalmist_n the_o lord_n be_v full_a of_o compassion_n 8._o and_o mercy_n long_o suffer_v and_o of_o great_a goodness_n and_o indeed_o the_o long_a suffering_n or_o patience_n of_o our_o most_o merciful_a lord_n be_v very_o admirable_a such_o as_o we_o can_v find_v either_o in_o master_n towards_o their_o servant_n or_o in_o parent_n towards_o their_o child_n though_o both_o sort_n of_o they_o be_v man_n 1._o and_o first_o god_n be_v long_o suffer_v towards_o sinner_n expect_v they_o with_o incredible_a patience_n sometime_o from_o their_o childhood_n to_o the_o extremity_n of_o old_a age_n bear_v the_o break_n of_o his_o law_n and_o the_o tear_n of_o his_o name_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n do_v they_o good_a from_o heaven_n give_v they_o rain_n and_o fruitful_a 17._o season_n replenish_n they_o with_o food_n and_o their_o heart_n with_o gladness_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v and_o where_o will_v you_o find_v among_o man_n either_o a_o master_n or_o a_o parent_n so_o gentle_a and_o facile_a who_o if_o he_o perceive_v himself_o to_o be_v slight_v or_o abuse_v by_o his_o servant_n or_o son_n and_o that_o they_o persevere_v long_o in_o this_o obstinacy_n at_o the_o last_o do_v not_o turn_v they_o out_o of_o dorâ—s_n but_o the_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o overcome_v by_o the_o wickedness_n of_o man_n but_o it_o deal_v they_o 23_o shall_v amend_v 2._o again_o his_o patience_n be_v see_v more_o in_o that_o many_o sinner_n by_o his_o grace_n be_v draw_v out_o of_o the_o lake_n of_o misery_n and_o the_o mire_n of_o dregs_n and_o of_o child_n of_o darkness_n be_v make_v son_n of_o light_n and_o from_o the_o guilt_n of_o eternal_a death_n to_o the_o adoption_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o call_v to_o the_o hope_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o though_o they_o relapse_n often_o to_o their_o former_a filthiness_n and_o ingratitude_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o forsake_v by_o the_o long_a suffering_n of_o god_n but_o be_v love_o expect_v and_o invite_v to_o repentance_n and_o if_o they_o shall_v hearty_o repent_v at_o any_o time_n they_o be_v receive_v to_o a_o kiss_n of_o peace_n and_o atonement_n and_o restore_v to_o former_a favour_n as_o the_o prodigallson_n be_v of_o a_o most_o merciful_a father_n it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n that_o st._n peter_n demand_v of_o our_o saviour_n how_o often_o he_o shall_v forgive_v his_o brother_n sin_v against_o he_o be_v thus_o answer_v by_o he_o i_o say_v not_o unto_o thou_o unto_o 22._o seven_o time_n but_o unto_o 70._o time_n seven_o time_n for_o he_o will_v have_v we_o do_v the_o same_o which_o he_o himself_o do_v in_o pardon_v sinner_n and_o he_o have_v set_v no_o bound_n to_o his_o reconciliation_n but_o only_o the_o receive_v mercy_n from_o god._n but_o yet_o no_o man_n ought_v therefore_o to_o abuse_v the_o lenity_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o deâ—erre_v his_o repentance_n from_o day_n to_o day_n see_v no_o man_n know_v what_o hour_n or_o day_n the_o soul_n will_v leave_v the_o body_n and_o appear_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o a_o most_o lust_n ludge_v but_o rather_o all_o man_n shall_v be_v invite_v and_o allure_v to_o repentance_n by_o this_o so_o great_a and_o incredible_a goodness_n of_o god_n for_o if_o god_n be_v so_o gracious_a towards_o sinner_n often_o relapse_v how_o great_a will_v his_o favour_n be_v to_o those_o who_o after_o they_o have_v once_o taste_v of_o it_o can_v never_o be_v draw_v to_o be_v separate_v from_o it_o notwithstanding_o any_o tentation_n beat_v against_o they_o 3._o there_o be_v also_o another_o admirable_a patience_n and_o long_o suffer_v of_o god_n which_o he_o use_v in_o tollerate_v the_o offence_n of_o godly_a man_n for_o god_n of_o his_o goodness_n have_v make_v we_o of_o enemy_n his_o friend_n son_n of_o servant_n and_o heir_n of_o his_o kingdom_n be_v guilty_a of_o eternal_a death_n and_o yet_o such_o be_v our_o ingratitude_n that_o we_o daily_o render_v evil_a for_o good_a for_o if_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o many_o thing_n we_o offend_v 2._o all_o what_o may_v we_o say_v who_o stand_v in_o so_o far_o a_o distance_n from_o the_o apostle_n perfection_n for_o we_o talk_v with_o god_n in_o our_o prayer_n and_o present_o we_o be_v distract_v by_o our_o imagination_n with_o other_o thought_n and_o as_o it_o be_v turn_v our_o back_n to_o god_n what_o master_n will_v suffer_v his_o servant_n stand_v before_o he_o and_o speak_v to_o he_o to_o turn_v to_o his_o fellow_n servant_n as_o it_o be_v in_o contempt_n of_o he_o and_o to_o talk_v with_o they_o what_o shall_v i_o say_v of_o idle_a word_n of_o vain_a thought_n of_o unfruitful_a work_n of_o excess_n in_o diet_n sleep_n apparel_n and_o play_v of_o our_o negligence_n and_o loose_a carriage_n in_o our_o holy_a service_n to_o god_n of_o our_o omission_n of_o brotherly_a correction_n and_o of_o innumerable_a other_o offence_n wherein_o we_o daily_o offend_v and_o yet_o our_o god_n be_v good_a and_o gracious_a and_o of_o great_a mercy_n 5._o to_o all_o they_o that_o call_v upon_o he_o he_o bear_v with_o this_o rudeness_n and_o incivility_n and_o as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v this_o foolishness_n of_o his_o child_n which_o certain_o man_n will_v not_o endure_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n for_o he_o know_v whereof_o we_o be_v make_v and_o deal_v 14._o with_o we_o as_o a_o mother_n with_o her_o little_a child_n who_o she_o cherish_v and_o nourish_v though_o perhaps_o it_o strike_v she_o yet_o though_o god_n bear_v with_o many_o of_o our_o offence_n here_o because_o they_o do_v not_o so_o break_v the_o bond_n of_o his_o love_n as_o to_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o right_n of_o our_o inheritance_n yet_o they_o shall_v not_o go_v
