mean_v to_o teach_v we_o in_o this_o verse_n o_o that_o my_o way_n be_v make_v so_o direct_a that_o i_o may_v keep_v thy_o commandment_n when_o as_o he_o speak_v of_o his_o way_n he_o mean_v all_o the_o action_n of_o his_o life_n for_o the_o life_n of_o man_n be_v call_v a_o way_n and_o that_o not_o without_o cause_n for_o all_o our_o thought_n and_o affection_n be_v as_o way_n and_o as_o our_o footstep_n now_o he_o say_v o_o that_o my_o way_n be_v make_v so_o direct_a that_o i_o may_v keep_v thy_o commandment_n herein_o he_o declare_v that_o a_o faithful_a man_n after_o he_o have_v know_v this_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o guide_v our_o life_n aught_o to_o enter_v into_o himself_o and_o think_v that_o there_o be_v neither_o reason_n nor_o wisdom_n in_o he_o how_o to_o govern_v himself_o but_o that_o all_o proceed_v from_o the_o good_a will_n and_o love_a kindness_n of_o the_o lord_n sithence_o then_o that_o we_o be_v so_o incline_v to_o rove_v in_o our_o own_o way_n hither_o and_o thither_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o foolish_a presumption_n and_o vain_a confidence_n which_o we_o have_v of_o our_o own_o wisdom_n let_v we_o use_v such_o remedy_n as_o god_n have_v assign_v we_o to_o weet_v that_o we_o forsake_v ourselves_o and_o tread_v under_o foot_n this_o carnal_a reason_n which_o deceive_v we_o that_o we_o set_v at_o naught_o all_o our_o lust_n and_o ungodly_a affection_n that_o god_n only_o may_v bear_v rule_n and_o our_o life_n be_v guide_v according_a to_o his_o his_o law_n it_o follow_v then_o shall_v i_o not_o be_v confound_v when_o i_o have_v respect_n to_o all_o thy_o commandment_n here_o david_n confirm_v himself_o in_o the_o doctrine_n next_o before_o for_o he_o declare_v what_o the_o mark_n be_v whereat_o he_o aim_v o_o lord_n say_v he_o when_o as_o thou_o shall_v do_v i_o that_o good_a that_o i_o may_v be_v direct_v according_a to_o thy_o word_n i_o shall_v never_o be_v confound_v when_o david_n now_o have_v such_o a_o desire_n he_o there_o by_o right_a well_o declare_v that_o every_o man_n ought_v to_o be_v careful_a &_o to_o endeavour_n himself_o thereunto_o or_o else_o he_o shall_v never_o obey_v the_o will_n of_o god_n consider_v that_o there_o be_v so_o many_o gainsaying_n in_o our_o flesh_n &_o nature_n as_o be_v most_o pitiful_a to_o think_v upon_o for_o look_v how_o many_o our_o affection_n &_o thought_n be_v we_o have_v even_o so_o many_o enemy_n rebel_a against_o god_n and_o which_o hinder_v we_o to_o walk_v after_o his_o will_n we_o ought_v therefore_o to_o pray_v unto_o he_o that_o he_o will_v hold_v we_o in_o that_o he_o may_v be_v our_o master_n &_o we_o his_o vassal_n moreover_o let_v we_o consider_v well_o of_o that_o which_o be_v here_o speak_v to_o weet_v that_o in_o keep_v the_o comaundemente_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v never_o be_v confound_v by_o this_o he_o do_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o so_o many_o as_o follow_v their_o own_o lust_n &_o fantasy_n which_o look_v this_o way_n &_o that_o way_n and_o do_v imagine_v themselves_o a_o mark_n &_o forge_v themselves_o such_o away_o as_o seem_v good_a in_o their_o own_o sight_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v confound_v and_o deceive_v no_o doubt_n when_o man_n do_v that_o which_o best_o like_v themselves_o they_o straightways_o think_v all_o thing_n shall_v go_v so_o well_o with_o they_o as_o be_v possible_a to_o be_v wish_v glory_v in_o their_o own_o vain_a imagination_n but_o what_o follow_v thereof_o god_n confound_v they_o in_o their_o own_o arrogancy_n wherewith_o they_o be_v puff_v up_o for_o a_o time_n will_v we_o eschew_v this_o confusion_n of_o the_o unbelieve_a person_n let_v we_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n to_o wit_n let_v our_o eye_n be_v settle_v on_o they_o and_o look_v not_o on_o our_o own_o reason_n nor_o of_o our_o natural_a sense_n neither_o yet_o of_o any_o other_o thing_n that_o lie_v in_o our_o own_o power_n which_o may_v turn_v we_o away_o from_o they_o and_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a point_n for_o we_o to_o be_v enfourm_v thereof_o for_o as_o often_o as_o man_n will_v give_v themselves_o leave_v to_o imagine_v and_o think_v what_o they_o listen_v to_o have_v do_v there_o shall_v a_o thousand_o thought_n for_o close_a their_o mind_n and_o so_o will_v turn_v they_o away_o from_o god_n and_o whole_o estrange_v they_o from_o the_o doctrine_n of_o salvation_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n david_n declare_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o only_a mean_a to_o wit_n that_o we_o shall_v whole_o settle_v our_o eye_n upon_o the_o law_n of_o god_n without_o turn_v away_o from_o it_o either_o on_o this_o side_n or_o on_o that_o as_o common_o and_o usual_o we_o do_v afterward_o he_o go_v on_o and_o say_v i_o will_v praise_v thou_o with_o a_o upright_o heart_n when_o i_o shall_v learn_v the_o judgement_n of_o thy_o righteousness_n david_n show_v in_o this_o verse_n how_o we_o may_v praise_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n and_o that_o be_v continual_o follow_v the_o plainness_n of_o his_o matter_n for_o we_o must_v all_o confess_v that_o our_o life_n be_v miserable_a if_o it_o tend_v not_o to_o the_o praise_n and_o glorify_v of_o god_n let_v we_o now_o see_v how_o we_o may_v praise_v he_o we_o must_v be_v exercise_v in_o his_o judgement_n that_o be_v in_o the_o rule_n which_o he_o have_v set_v down_o unto_o us._n for_o this_o word_n judgement_n import_v that_o we_o be_v teach_v and_o instruct_v of_o that_o which_o we_o have_v to_o do_v for_o our_o life_n be_v outrageous_a if_o we_o pass_v the_o limit_n and_o bound_n which_o he_o have_v appoint_v we_o and_o contrariwyse_o we_o keep_v a_o true_a uprightness_n in_o obey_v of_o he_o now_o than_o he_o say_v that_o when_o he_o shall_v have_v learn_v the_o righteous_a judgement_n of_o god_n that_o then_o he_o will_v thank_v he_o with_o a_o unfeigned_a heart_n by_o this_o he_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o although_o man_n persuade_v themselves_o to_o love_n god_n as_o much_o as_o be_v possible_a nevertheless_o that_o it_o be_v but_o feign_a until_o such_o time_n as_o they_o be_v unfeigned_o instruct_v in_o the_o law_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o that_o moreover_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o that_o be_v not_o all_o which_o we_o have_v learn_v that_o god_n show_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n but_o david_n speak_v here_o of_o a_o instruction_n which_o take_v root_n and_o be_v settle_v and_o abide_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n according_a to_o that_o which_o have_v heretofore_o be_v say_v for_o a_o number_n may_v imagine_v of_o their_o own_o brain_n what_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v but_o in_o the_o mean_a while_o it_o stand_v so_o with_o they_o that_o when_o we_o behold_v their_o life_n and_o conversation_n it_o appear_v that_o they_o have_v profit_v no_o whit_n at_o all_o in_o his_o school_n it_o be_v meet_v therefore_o that_o out_o heart_n be_v bring_v to_o the_o school_n of_o god_n to_o weet_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o teach_v we_o it_o may_v be_v thorough_o imprint_v and_o engrave_v within_o and_o this_o be_v that_o manner_n of_o learning_n whereof_o david_n here_o speak_v for_o if_o we_o have_v be_v exercise_v in_o this_o sort_n that_o we_o have_v hold_v the_o doctrine_n and_o law_n of_o god_n we_o may_v very_o well_o glorify_v his_o bless_a name_n to_o weet_v we_o may_v true_o praise_v he_o as_o he_o have_v command_v us._n when_o he_o say_v i_o will_v keep_v thy_o statute_n that_o be_v that_o he_o be_v so_o resolve_a and_o confirm_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n that_o he_o have_v overcome_v all_o the_o affection_n and_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o world_n which_o may_v resist_v and_o hinder_v he_o in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n he_o have_v say_v before_o o_o that_o my_o way_n be_v make_v so_o direct_a he_o desire_v as_o a_o man_n which_o when_o he_o can_v have_v that_o which_o he_o wish_v for_o be_v in_o great_a pain_n and_o travel_v it_o behove_v we_o also_o to_o pour_v out_o such_o sigh_n &_o groan_n consider_v the_o rebellion_n of_o our_o flesh_n which_o be_v so_o contrary_a to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n that_o all_o our_o thought_n and_o affection_n as_o be_v abovesaid_a be_v so_o many_o gainesayinge_n that_o they_o turn_v we_o clean_o away_o from_o his_o obeisance_n we_o must_v therefore_o say_v
access_n nor_o that_o do_v more_o ready_o assure_v we_o to_o be_v hear_v then_o when_o we_o behold_v his_o benefit_n bestow_v upon_o us._n and_o how_o must_v that_o be_v thus_o must_v every_o man_n consider_v with_o himself_o and_o say_v i_o have_v find_v heretofore_o by_o experience_n the_o bounty_n of_o my_o god_n yea_o i_o have_v have_v as_o great_a prouse_n hereof_o as_o be_v possible_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v unreasonable_a that_o i_o shall_v mistrust_v he_o and_o stand_v in_o any_o doubt_n that_o he_o will_v not_o now_o grant_v i_o that_o which_o i_o desire_v of_o he_o consider_v that_o i_o have_v so_o good_a a_o proufe_v of_o his_o love_n that_o he_o be_v always_o ready_a liberal_o to_o bestow_v upon_o i_o his_o benefit_n when_o then_o i_o shall_v have_v receive_v so_o many_o benefit_n of_o he_o shall_v i_o now_o think_v with_o myself_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o this_o thing_n shall_v come_v to_o pass_v to_o wit_n that_o i_o shall_v obtain_v that_o which_o i_o be_o about_o to_o pray_v for_o if_o we_o shall_v stand_v in_o this_o doubt_n we_o shall_v do_v god_n great_a wrong_n and_o show_v our_o great_a unthankfulness_n unto_o he_o for_o he_o never_o do_v we_o any_o good_a but_o it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n and_o purpose_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v partaker_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o grace_n which_o he_o will_v continue_v unto_o we_o even_o to_o the_o end_n for_o he_o be_v never_o weary_a in_o liberal_o bestow_v his_o benefit_n upon_o we_o as_o man_n be_v wont_a when_o as_o they_o bestow_v bountiful_o of_o any_o and_o by_o &_o by_o pluck_v their_o head_n again_o quite_o out_o of_o the_o collar_n but_o god_n be_v no_o such_o manner_n of_o one_o he_o be_v a_o well_o that_o can_v never_o be_v draw_v dry_a loe_o then_o whereunto_o this_o tend_v which_o be_v here_o speak_v in_o the_o first_o verse_n o_o lord_n thou_o have_v deal_v gracious_o with_o thy_o servant_n david_n speak_v not_o this_o to_o the_o end_n to_o measure_v himself_o that_o he_o will_v have_v god_n never_o hereafter_o to_o bestow_v any_o more_o benefit_n upon_o he_o but_o clean_o contrary_a that_o because_o he_o have_v have_v already_o so_o great_a experience_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n he_o be_v full_o resolve_v that_o he_o shall_v also_o feel_v his_o benefit_n too_o come_v for_o god_n be_v no_o chaungling_n and_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v his_o grace_n be_v never_o lessen_v but_o he_o will_v always_o increase_v it_o towards_o us._n and_o so_o let_v we_o learn_v after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n that_o as_o often_o as_o we_o be_v to_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o consider_v with_o ourselves_o and_o call_v to_o mind_n the_o benefit_n which_o we_o have_v receive_v from_o his_o hand_n that_o the_o same_o may_v be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o entrance_n for_o we_o unto_o prayer_n and_o thereupon_o to_o conclude_v that_o see_v god_n have_v show_v himself_o heretofore_o liberal_a we_o shall_v feel_v he_o also_o to_o be_v the_o same_o ever_o hereafter_o unto_o the_o end_n now_o namely_o david_n add_v according_a to_o thy_o word_n and_o not_o without_o cause_n for_o this_o be_v not_o all_o that_o we_o ought_v to_o know_v that_o god_n have_v do_v we_o good_a and_o that_o all_o that_o we_o have_v procee_v from_o he_o but_o we_o must_v put_v this_o confidence_n unto_o it_o to_o wit_n that_o he_o have_v do_v it_o according_a to_o his_o word_n for_o like_a as_o meat_n although_o it_o be_v good_a and_o sweet_a have_v no_o savour_n nor_o taste_n but_o be_v altogether_o unsavery_a without_o salt_n even_o so_o likewise_o the_o benefit_n of_o god_n will_v have_v no_o perfect_a taste_n that_o we_o may_v savour_n they_o as_o appertain_v if_o it_o be_v not_o that_o they_o be_v salt_v and_o season_v with_o faith_n and_o belief_n and_o too_o know_v that_o the_o grace_n and_o benefit_n which_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o have_v be_v according_a to_o his_o word_n &_o promise_n and_o why_o so_o i_o pray_v you_o for_o if_o we_o shall_v not_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o his_o promise_n yea_o and_o although_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v we_o may_v very_o well_o make_v our_o petition_n unto_o he_o and_o come_v before_o he_o in_o build_v ourselves_o upon_o this_o that_o he_o have_v already_o aid_v we_o of_o his_o mere_a favour_n and_o goodness_n yet_o shall_v we_o not_o for_o all_o that_o be_v assure_v that_o he_o will_v always_o do_v the_o like_a ne_o yet_o abide_v constant_a therein_o that_o when_o he_o have_v begin_v that_o he_o will_v finish_v it_o we_o can_v never_o be_v able_a i_o say_v too_o have_v any_o such_o certainty_n without_o his_o word_n and_o why_o so_o when_o god_n say_v unto_o we_o go_v to_o now_o and_o hearken_v unto_o i_o i_o will_v be_v your_o father_n and_o show_v myself_o saviour_n towards_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v i_o to_o be_v such_o one_o for_o ever_o after_o that_o we_o have_v feit_z the_o proufe_v and_o effect_v of_o these_o promise_n we_o may_v then_o very_o well_o apply_v his_o benefit_n to_o that_o use_n whereof_o i_o have_v already_o speak_v have_v god_n do_v i_o good_a but_o for_o a_o fit_a have_v he_o do_v this_o only_a but_o by_o the_o way_n of_o talk_n and_o will_v he_o not_o now_o hold_v and_o continue_v it_o no_o not_o so_o but_o he_o have_v do_v it_o according_a to_o his_o word_n do_v the_o word_n of_o god_n stand_v but_o for_o a_o day_n or_o for_o a_o month_n no_o it_o remain_v and_o abide_v both_o in_o life_n and_o death_n let_v we_o then_o conclude_v that_o the_o benefit_n of_o god_n be_v everlasting_a and_o that_o he_o will_v continue_v they_o unto_o all_o those_o that_o be_v not_o unthankful_a loe_o this_o sentence_n which_o david_n add_v be_v not_o superfluous_a but_o of_o great_a wait_n when_o he_o say_v o_o lord_n thou_o have_v deal_v gracious_o with_o i_o according_a to_o thy_o word_n if_o we_o will_v then_o be_v confirm_v by_o the_o benefit_n of_o god_n which_o we_o have_v heretofore_o receive_v and_o when_o we_o shall_v make_v our_o request_n that_o we_o will_v have_v he_o to_o hear_v we_o we_o must_v join_v his_o benefit_n with_o his_o word_n and_o even_o to_o speak_v property_n like_v unto_o confecte_n close_o wrap_v up_o together_o in_o savoury_a salt_n for_o otherwise_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o feel_v any_o such_o taste_v they_o as_o to_o apply_v then_o to_o such_o a_o use_n to_o build_v a_o true_a certainty_n of_o faith_n in_o he_o now_o david_n have_v use_v such_o a_o preface_n add_v o_o teach_v i_o good_a judgement_n and_o knowledge_n for_o i_o have_v believe_v thy_o commandment_n here_o david_n desire_v god_n to_o give_v he_o true_a wisdom_n that_o he_o may_v know_v what_o he_o have_v to_o do_v and_o why_o do_v he_o so_o he_o set_v down_o the_o reason_n which_o be_v that_o that_o we_o have_v already_o see_v for_o i_o have_v believe_v say_v he_o thy_o word_n now_o it_o seem_v to_o imply_v that_o they_o which_o have_v believe_v be_v sufficient_o instruct_v that_o they_o have_v i_o say_v true_a understanding_n and_o so_o great_a wisdom_n as_o they_o need_v not_o to_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o inlighten_v they_o any_o more_o wherein_o consist_v and_o stand_v all_o our_o wisdom_n but_o in_o faith_n when_o as_o we_o receive_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o be_v teach_v by_o it_o do_v rest_v we_o in_o that_o which_o he_o say_v unto_o we_o loe_o this_o be_v our_o full_a and_o whole_a perfection_n now_o david_n protest_v that_o he_o have_v beleve_v the_o word_n of_o god_n wherefore_o then_o desire_v he_o to_o be_v teach_v as_o if_o he_o be_v without_o knowledge_n and_o ignorant_a now_o here_o we_o be_v to_o note_v as_o we_o have_v touch_v this_o morning_n that_o we_o believe_v the_o word_n of_o god_n two_o way_n to_o wit_n our_o faith_n must_v be_v distinguish_v in_o two_o part_n not_o that_o we_o mean_v to_o divide_v and_o dismember_v the_o same_o but_o to_o make_v a_o distinction_n of_o it_o as_o be_v comprise_v in_o she_o own_o nature_n kind_n from_o whence_o then_o take_v faith_n her_o beginning_n forsooth_o she_o must_v despise_v herself_o to_o receive_v whatsoever_o god_n shall_v say_v we_o must_v suffer_v he_o to_o be_v master_n and_o to_o acknowledge_v whatsoever_o come_v from_o he_o to_o be_v good_a holy_a and_o just_a that_o before_o he_o have_v speak_v unto_o we_o we_o be_v already_o prepare_v and_o dispose_v to_o obey_v he_o and_o albeit_o we_o know_v not_o yet_o his_o will_n nevertheless_o to_o have_v this_o resolution_n with_o ourselves_o do_v god_n speak_v well_o then_o we_o must_v not_o only_o give_v our_o ear_n and_o attention_n but_o also_o receive_v without_o contradiction_n whatsoever_o
also_o in_o part_n of_o the_o night_n see_v here_o what_o we_o be_v in_o very_a deed_n to_o gather_v out_o of_o this_o place_n but_o first_o we_o must_v mark_v the_o proceed_n of_o david_n for_o after_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o the_o hope_n wherein_o he_o be_v settle_v to_o pray_v untoo_o god_n without_o doubt_v that_o he_o will_v hear_v he_o he_o say_v that_o he_o careful_o meditate_a on_o his_o word_n and_o why_o do_v he_o so_o shall_v that_o which_o be_v necessary_a for_o david_n to_o do_v be_v superfluous_a for_o we_o god_n forbid_v for_o if_o such_o a_o prophet_n as_o he_o have_v need_v too_o arm_n himself_o against_o the_o temptation_n of_o his_o flesh_n against_o the_o infirmity_n wherewith_o he_o may_v be_v assail_v i_o pray_v you_o how_o quick_o shall_v he_o be_v overthrow_v if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o same_o remedy_n which_o we_o use_v and_o the_o courage_n also_o which_o he_o here_o exhort_v we_o unto_o let_v we_o then_o consider_v that_o if_o we_o will_v be_v stay_v upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n because_o we_o will_v call_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o time_n of_o need_n we_o ought_v many_o time_n to_o meditate_v upon_o his_o word_n both_o day_n and_o night_n and_o to_o set_v all_o our_o study_n and_o affection_n therein_o and_o see_v what_o the_o cause_n be_v why_o there_o be_v so_o few_o which_o be_v dispose_v to_o pray_v unto_o god_n yea_o and_o when_o they_o be_v thereto_o enforce_v they_o know_v not_o which_o way_n too_o begin_v because_o they_o can_v he_o full_o resolve_v to_o say_v it_o be_v very_o requisite_a that_o when_o i_o shall_v call_v upon_o my_o good_a god_n that_o i_o be_v full_o assure_v that_o he_o will_v not_o refuse_v to_o hear_v i_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o uncertainty_n it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o well_o acquaint_v with_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o a_o man_n will_v think_v that_o it_o be_v even_o enough_o slight_o and_o light_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v those_o that_o be_v he_o and_o when_o we_o come_v to_o prayer_n with_o this_o thought_n we_o think_v that_o if_o we_o have_v say_v but_o a_o word_n or_o two_o that_o it_o be_v too_o much_o yea_o and_o if_o we_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n and_o hear_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n speak_v of_o we_o think_v it_o by_o and_o by_o too_o be_v a_o unprofitable_a speech_n and_o will_v say_v that_o it_o be_v more_o than_o need_v for_o what_o be_v he_o that_o understand_v not_o that_o well_o enough_o and_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n behold_v a_o mighty_a great_a temptation_n like_v unto_o a_o boisterous_a whirlwind_n and_o tempest_n even_o at_o hand_n and_o then_o he_o which_o think_v himself_o so_o able_a a_o man_n be_v become_v a_o very_a milksop_n he_o will_v look_v whether_o god_n will_v have_v pity_n of_o he_o he_o will_v possible_o imagine_v that_o he_o have_v turn_v his_o back_n yea_o or_o else_o he_o will_v doubt_v of_o his_o providence_n whether_o he_o have_v any_o care_n of_o the_o world_n or_o no_o there_o be_v a_o thousand_o fantasy_n which_o the_o devil_n go_v about_o to_o put_v in_o our_o mind_n and_o when_o we_o be_v in_o this_o case_n see_v we_o be_v so_o astonish_v as_o that_o there_o be_v no_o come_n for_o we_o too_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n it_o be_v because_o we_o have_v not_o be_v careful_a to_o meditate_v upon_o his_o promise_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v so_o much_o the_o more_o thorough_o to_o consider_v of_o this_o lesson_n when_o as_o it_o be_v say_v that_o david_n his_o eye_n prevent_v the_o night_n watch_v too_o stop_v and_o afterward_o the_o mischief_n shall_v increase_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v come_v even_o to_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n that_o be_v to_o say_v we_o shall_v be_v utter_o exclude_v from_o the_o help_n of_o our_o good_a god_n that_o he_o will_v retire_v himself_o from_o we_o and_o clear_o banish_v we_o his_o kingdom_n behold_v here_o the_o fruit_n which_o commerh_n by_o our_o negligence_n when_o as_o we_o shall_v make_v no_o account_v of_o the_o exercise_v of_o ourselves_o in_o this_o study_n of_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n now_o god_n moreover_o david_n speak_v here_o of_o the_o wicked_a call_v they_o the_o proud_a neither_o do_v he_o so_o entitle_v they_o without_o cause_n for_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o all_o those_o which_o trust_v not_o in_o god_n for_o it_o can_v not_o be_v choose_v but_o that_o a_o man_n which_o put_v not_o his_o trust_n in_o god_n must_v needs_o grow_v proud_a and_o swell_v therewith_o like_o a_o toad_n and_o why_o so_o for_o when_o man_n do_v know_v themselves_o to_o be_v such_o as_o in_o deed_n they_o be_v they_o must_v needs_o be_v cast_v down_o and_o humble_v and_o this_o common_a presume_v without_o measure_n even_o so_o then_o let_v we_o note_v that_o if_o we_o will_v render_v a_o true_a testimony_n of_o our_o faith_n we_o must_v needs_o be_v cast_v down_o in_o ourselves_o &_o be_v true_o humble_v and_o contrariwise_o if_o we_o feel_v that_o pride_n puff_v we_o up_o let_v we_o conclude_v that_o we_o have_v as_o yet_o profit_v very_o slender_o in_o the_o school_n of_o god_n &_o that_o if_o faith_n reign_v in_o our_o soul_n that_o this_o pride_n shall_v there_o be_v correct_v see_v then_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o put_v this_o lesson_n in_o practice_n moreover_o let_v we_o also_o note_n that_o they_o which_o so_o lift_v themselves_o up_o against_o god_n contemn_v and_o despise_v their_o neighbour_n that_o all_o they_o which_o presume_v upon_o their_o own_o power_n let_v we_o not_o study_v to_o go_v about_o to_o advance_v and_o esteem_v of_o ourselves_o in_o reject_v and_o naught_o set_v by_o of_o other_o but_o let_v we_o acknowledge_v the_o benefit_n which_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o every_o one_o of_o we_o and_o confess_v the_o infirmity_n &_o vice_n which_o be_v in_o ourselves_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v be_v humble_v and_o rather_o commend_v and_o praise_v other_o let_v we_o now_o come_v to_o this_o complaint_n and_o protestation_n which_o david_n make_v the_o proud_a have_v have_v i_o exceed_o in_o derision_n yet_o have_v i_o not_o shrink_v from_o thy_o law_n when_o he_o say_v that_o the_o proud_a have_v have_v he_o exceed_o in_o derision_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o he_o mean_v that_o they_o deride_v he_o for_o his_o simplicity_n because_o he_o put_v his_o trust_n in_o god_n very_o well_o say_v they_o he_o think_v that_o god_n shall_v dandle_v he_o in_o his_o lap_n but_o we_o not_o we_o see_v what_o be_v become_v of_o he_o loe_o the_o combatte_n wherewith_o satan_n daily_o assail_v us._n when_o as_o the_o ungodly_a do_v see_v the_o child_n of_o god_n in_o any_o misery_n and_o calamity_n they_o rush_v even_o upon_o they_o at_o the_o first_o dash_n and_o say_v ha_o ha_o this_o man_n think_v that_o god_n ought_v to_o watch_v over_o he_o and_o that_o no_o sorrow_n nor_o grief_n shall_v come_v upon_o he_o psalm_n and_o since_o he_o have_v put_v his_o trust_n in_o god_n say_v they_o let_v he_o now_o save_v he_o and_o let_v we_o see_v whether_o god_n will_v help_v he_o or_o not_o and_o as_o david_n be_v grieve_v with_o these_o torment_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v abide_v the_o like_a conflict_n and_o since_o that_o this_o appertain_v to_o the_o son_n of_o god_n such_o temptation_n and_o therefore_o if_o we_o see_v the_o wicked_a and_o the_o enemy_n of_o god_n jest_n and_o scoff_n at_o we_o when_o as_o we_o be_v in_o affliction_n take_v occasion_n thereby_o to_o lift_v up_o their_o horn_n and_o to_o deride_v we_o let_v we_o not_o yield_v for_o all_o that_o but_o let_v we_o remain_v firm_a and_o constant_a since_o that_o david_n have_v show_v we_o the_o his_o chatisement_n too_o be_v gentle_a and_o gracious_a but_o be_v impatient_a and_o conceive_v some_o grief_n that_o make_v they_o too_o grind_v their_o tooth_n now_o david_n join_v these_o two_o together_o to_o wit_n that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o make_v much_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o also_o of_o the_o punishment_n which_o he_o send_v he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n i_o themselves_o against_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v not_o because_o they_o know_v not_o this_o doctrine_n too_o be_v good_a and_o that_o they_o judge_v not_o so_o of_o it_o but_o yet_o be_v they_o not_o the_o one_o hang_v on_o the_o other_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o second_o hang_v upon_o the_o first_o for_o whosoever_o shall_v come_v to_o this_o humility_n that_o david_n speak_v off_o to_o know_v that_o in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n there_o be_v but_o one_o holy_a doctrine_n one_o infallible_a truth_n one_o so_o perfect_a equity_n as_o can_v be_v no_o perfect_a he_o that_o shall_v have_v know_v this_o shall_v by_o little_a and_o little_o have_v wherewith_o too_o be_v fortify_v too_o receive_v the_o correction_n with_o a_o meek_a spirit_n and_o not_o to_o be_v grieve_v and_o to_o kick_v promise_n unto_o thy_o servant_n here_o david_n make_v and_o more_o general_a request_n then_o that_o which_o before_o we_o have_v see_v he_o desire_v god_n to_o instruct_v he_o and_o now_o he_o add_v o_o let_v thy_o merciful_a kindness_n be_v my_o comfort_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n i_o have_v beseech_v thou_o for_o a_o special_a and_o particular_a thing_n but_o i_o add_v now_o that_o in_o a_o singular_a recommendation_n and_o that_o be_v that_o we_o may_v be_v teach_v by_o god_n and_o not_o to_o be_v teach_v only_o by_o word_n but_o that_o he_o will_v also_o lighten_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o make_v we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v his_o word_n which_o guide_v us._n see_v here_o i_o say_v the_o very_a right_a way_n to_o salvation_n now_o have_v we_o make_v this_o request_n we_o may_v crave_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v not_o let_v we_o fall_v in_o anything_o whatsoever_o that_o his_o mercy_n may_v comfort_v us._n but_o yet_o here_o we_o see_v how_o that_o david_n be_v not_o comfort_v nor_o yet_o rejoice_v but_o only_o in_o god_n know_v that_o all_o the_o joy_n that_o we_o have_v here_o bilowe_n shall_v be_v accurse_v when_o as_o we_o have_v no_o yet_o be_v he_o able_a i_o say_v too_o beat_v they_o back_o and_o make_v his_o part_n good_a against_o they_o all_o and_o this_o matter_n he_o manifest_o declare_v whereas_o he_o say_v i_o will_v these_o two_o thing_n i_o say_v for_o behold_v satan_n will_v never_o cease_v crafty_o to_o go_v about_o to_o imagine_v whatsoever_o he_o possible_o can_v to_o cause_v we_o to_o draw_v back_o he_o will_v set_v bar_n and_o pitch_n hayes_n before_o we_o he_o will_v lay_v bush_n thorn_n and_o evil_a favour_v stumble_v block_n whatsoever_o which_v any_o way_n may_v hinder_v and_o let_v we_o that_o if_o we_o mean_v to_o march_v on_o but_o only_o three_o pace_n we_o shall_v be_v violent_o carry_v away_o to_o turn_v on_o this_o side_n and_o on_o that_o not_o know_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o us._n again_o we_o shall_v be_v solicit_v and_o move_v by_o our_o inordinate_a appetite_n to_o draw_v we_o clean_o awry_o for_o if_o we_o will_v whole_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o god_n the_o devil_n will_v draw_v we_o too_o the_o contrary_a and_o make_v we_o to_o give_v ourselves_o up_o too_o this_o worldly_a pelf_n and_o so_o consequent_o to_o all_o the_o rest_n see_v then_o that_o we_o be_v draw_v and_o hale_v with_o so_o many_o cart_n rope_n yea_o and_o be_v of_o ourselves_o so_o feeble_a to_o do_v good_a even_o burn_v after_o wickedness_n alas_o no_o marvel_n though_o we_o be_v slow_a too_o follow_v god_n but_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o we_o must_v need_v fight_v it_o be_v no_o question_n but_o that_o we_o flatter_v ourselves_o when_o as_o we_o see_v such_o slackness_n in_o ourselves_o and_o say_v in_o deed_n it_o be_v very_o true_a such_o be_v the_o state_n &_o condition_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o again_o our_o infirmity_n be_v so_o great_a as_o that_o it_o be_v a_o impossible_a thing_n for_o any_o man_n too_o discharge_v
god_n say_v unto_o us._n although_o satan_n cast_v at_o we_o never_o so_o many_o dart_n although_o he_o have_v never_o so_o exceed_v many_o devise_n against_o we_o although_o now_o and_o then_o by_o hurt_v we_o must_v say_v o_o lord_n this_o be_v injurious_o and_o false_o do_v but_o as_o i_o have_v already_o touch_v let_v we_o have_v such_o a_o testimony_n in_o our_o heart_n that_o although_o they_o which_o persecute_v we_o be_v the_o instrument_n and_o limb_n of_o satan_n and_o do_v it_o of_o mere_a malice_n let_v we_o not_o clean_a contrary_n purchase_v they_o any_o hurt_n or_o displeasure_n then_o may_v we_o call_v upon_o god_n with_o david_n know_v that_o he_o will_v never_o fail_v those_o which_o be_v wrongful_o persecute_v loe_o than_o the_o meaning_n of_o these_o trouble_n shall_v continue_v without_o end_n and_o without_o cease_v let_v we_o yet_o learn_v to_o be_v patient_a and_o chief_o when_o as_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o question_n of_o abide_v a_o little_a damage_n or_o small_a grief_n but_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v mortal_o persecute_v and_o our_o life_n too_o be_v as_o it_o be_v desperate_a to_o be_v already_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o very_a we_o be_v without_o molestation_n and_o temptation_n but_o what_o so_o it_o be_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o suffice_v we_o as_o he_o say_v i_o will_v consider_v thy_o testimony_n as_o not_o worthy_a that_o he_o shall_v give_v we_o the_o least_o taste_n thereof_o and_o for_o this_o cause_n we_o must_v not_o marvel_v much_o though_o so_o small_a a_o number_n at_o this_o day_n have_v profit_v in_o the_o scripture_n although_o every_o man_n desire_v to_o be_v praise_v and_o esteem_v amongst_o man_n to_o be_v very_o able_a and_o sufficient_a yet_o for_o all_o that_o we_o see_v a_o vice_n to_o be_v within_o we_o we_o ought_v by_o and_o by_o to_o seek_v to_o amend_v it_o and_o beseech_v god_n to_o put_v this_o coldness_n from_o out_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o that_o it_o to_o give_v we_o occasion_n to_o glorify_v god_n and_o beside_o his_o purpose_n be_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o the_o love_n as_o we_o have_v already_o touch_v which_o he_o have_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n know_v the_o same_o to_o be_v so_o profitable_a for_o us._n for_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o we_o be_v so_o very_o negligent_a as_o in_o deed_n we_o be_v in_o give_v ourselves_o to_o the_o study_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n that_o we_o think_v it_o to_o be_v even_o labour_n and_o time_n lose_v if_o we_o only_o spend_v but_o one_o hour_n of_o the_o day_n therein_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o such_o contempt_n very_o because_o we_o know_v not_o the_o profit_n that_o may_v come_v unto_o we_o thereby_o for_o if_o we_o be_v thus_o persuade_v that_o all_o our_o wisdom_n be_v and_o consist_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o that_o without_o it_o we_o be_v like_a unto_o miserable_a beast_n so_o that_o satan_n have_v catch_v and_o hold_v we_o fast_o bind_v in_o his_o grin_n and_o snare_n and_o that_o we_o can_v err_v in_o all_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o our_o life_n if_o we_o know_v this_o and_o again_o that_o it_o be_v sufficient_a that_o god_n have_v teach_v we_o and_o so_o have_v thereby_o such_o a_o clear_a light_n as_o that_o will_v never_o fail_v we_o that_o we_o be_v fence_v against_o all_o the_o ambush_n of_o satan_n and_o against_o all_o the_o villainy_n and_o deceit_n of_o the_o world_n if_o then_o we_o be_v thus_o thorough_o persuade_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v sufficient_a against_o all_o this_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o we_o shall_v be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o in_o love_n without_o all_o comparison_n with_o the_o study_n thereof_o then_o now_o we_o be_v and_o therefore_o let_v we_o well_o record_n this_o lesson_n which_o be_v here_o set_v down_o unto_o we_o by_o david_n to_o wit_n that_o in_o the_o first_o place_n we_o shall_v be_v wise_a than_o all_o our_o enemy_n if_o that_o we_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n always_o remain_v with_o us._n now_o when_o he_o say_v that_o he_o be_v make_v wise_a and_o have_v more_o understanding_n than_o his_o enemy_n he_o mean_v that_o he_o have_v so_o excellent_a a_o knowledge_n as_o that_o god_n will_v not_o suffer_v he_o to_o fall_v into_o the_o ambush_n &_o privy_a engine_n which_o the_o ungodly_a have_v lay_v for_o he_o sudden_o to_o be_v entrap_v &_o catch_v by_o their_o subtle_a train_n and_o policy_n loe_o already_o a_o wonderful_a profit_n which_o we_o receive_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o although_o we_o be_v encompass_v with_o the_o wicked_a which_o seek_v nothing_o but_o our_o destruction_n when_o as_o we_o do_v think_v that_o we_o shall_v perish_v every_o minute_n of_o a_o hour_n yet_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v guard_v from_o all_o whatsoever_o that_o they_o may_v any_o way_n attempt_n and_o privy_o lie_v in_o wait_n against_o we_o so_o that_o we_o be_v instruct_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n lo_o say_v i_o a_o inestimable_a treasure_n but_o we_o must_v consider_v who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v our_o enemy_n for_o we_o have_v not_o only_o to_o do_v with_o man_n which_o seek_v our_o hurt_n dishonour_n or_o that_o which_o may_v grieve_v we_o as_o touch_v this_o present_a life_n but_o we_o have_v satan_n and_o all_o his_o favourer_n and_o maintainer_n which_o be_v deadly_a enemy_n too_o our_o soul_n who_o seek_v nothing_o else_o but_o our_o destruction_n yea_o not_o only_o as_o concern_v the_o world_n
all_o our_o own_o fantasy_n and_o lust_n we_o must_v thrust_v out_o from_o we_o all_o whatsoever_o for_o the_o love_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o bear_v to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n we_o must_v also_o forget_v all_o hawtines_n or_o pride_n yea_o even_o study_v how_o too_o separate_v ourselves_o from_o those_o which_o any_o way_n may_v draw_v we_o too_o evil_a and_o not_o too_o communicate_v with_o the_o ungodly_a which_o be_v double_a heart_a full_a of_o hypocrisy_n or_o else_o such_o as_o be_v but_o vain_a glorious_a and_o of_o that_o pride_n which_o even_o move_v they_o to_o lift_v themselves_o up_o both_o against_o god_n and_o man_n for_o their_o company_n will_v so_o corrupt_v we_o as_o that_o be_v vuzzele_v among_o they_o our_o heart_n can_v never_o be_v so_o order_v and_o rule_v in_o the_o love_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n now_o then_o let_v we_o keep_v well_o in_o mind_n this_o admonition_n as_o a_o thing_n most_o profitable_a for_o we_o to_o wit_n as_o before_o i_o have_v say_v that_o as_o we_o be_v incline_v to_o committee_n a_o great_a number_n of_o offence_n and_o villainy_n which_o will_v withdraw_v we_o from_o the_o love_n that_o we_o ought_v to_o bear_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n let_v we_o so_o much_o the_o mere_a fly_n from_o whatsoever_o draw_v we_o away_o backward_o yea_o and_o let_v we_o understand_v that_o look_v how_o many_o our_o imagination_n and_o affection_n be_v that_o they_o be_v even_o so_o many_o cartrope_n to_o hale_v &_o pull_v we_o away_o from_o this_o love_n or_o else_o they_o be_v so_o many_o poison_n which_o satan_n give_v we_o to_o the_o end_n we_o shall_v not_o once_o taste_v of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n neither_o to_o be_v so_o amiable_a and_o pleasant_a unto_o we_o as_o it_o ought_v but_o rather_o that_o we_o may_v be_v greeve_v &_o loathe_v therewith_o &_o so_o to_o leave_v it_o as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o grievous_a matter_n &_o a_o occasion_n of_o hevine_v since_o than_o it_o be_v so_o let_v we_o be_v well_o advise_v too_o purge_v our_o heart_n of_o all_o earthly_a affection_n if_o we_o will_v take_v in_o hand_n to_o love_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o we_o have_v fight_v against_o our_o ungodly_a lust_n and_o fleshly_a fantasy_n but_o we_o must_v also_o as_o it_o be_v gather_v our_o wit_n together_o for_o hardly_o can_v we_o open_v our_o eye_n to_o look_v about_o this_o way_n and_o that_o way_n but_o that_o satan_n will_v lay_v before_o we_o some_o evil_a and_o wicked_a stop_n and_o encountry_n it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n we_o can_v not_o but_o both_o see_v and_o hear_v a_o great_a many_o of_o thing_n but_o yet_o must_v we_o bridle_v our_o sense_n ought_v so_o then_o the_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v both_o bitter_a and_o grievous_a unto_o we_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o contain_v in_o it_o but_o a_o rule_n too_o live_v well_o but_o when_o god_n be_v a_o testimony_n and_o witness_n untoo_o we_o of_o his_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n and_o declare_v untoo_o we_o that_o from_o he_o we_o must_v look_v too_o receive_v our_o chief_a then_o may_v we_o savoure_v and_o taste_v his_o word_n and_o conceive_v the_o love_n of_o it_o when_o as_o we_o know_v that_o therein_o consist_v and_o lie_v all_o our_o health_n and_o joy_n now_o then_o when_o as_o we_o will_v profit_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o it_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o receive_v the_o promise_n therein_o contain_v and_o let_v we_o not_o be_v like_a unto_o they_o which_o think_v that_o god_n say_v nothing_o else_o unto_o in_o all_o the_o whole_a scripture_n but_o do_v this_o or_o do_v that_o for_o then_o this_o be_v a_o very_a thin_a and_o feeble_a doctrine_n for_o if_o god_n be_v there_o as_o a_o philosopher_n to_o preach_v unto_o we_o of_o virtue_n and_o to_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o must_v be_v thus_o govern_v we_o shall_v have_v but_o a_o pitiful_a cold_a pull_n of_o it_o and_o because_o we_o be_v altogether_o and_o whole_o contrary_a to_o the_o rightuousnesse_n of_o god_n it_o be_v impossible_a but_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v grieve_v and_o trouble_v with_o whatsoever_o shall_v be_v say_v unto_o us._n but_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o the_o principal_a matter_n which_o god_n declare_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n be_v this_o that_o he_o protest_v how_o well_o he_o love_v we_o in_o allure_a we_o unto_o himself_o to_o the_o end_n we_o shall_v not_o doubt_v but_o that_o he_o will_v be_v our_o father_n in_o all_o and_o through_o all_o and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v bold_a to_o come_v before_o he_o that_o when_o there_o be_v any_o question_n of_o our_o salvation_n and_o of_o whatsoever_o else_o we_o have_v need_v off_o we_o shall_v not_o doubt_v but_o that_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o hear_v all_o our_o prayer_n that_o his_o hand_n be_v always_o liberal_o bend_v to_o the_o end_n to_o give_v we_o whatsoever_o we_o want_v when_o we_o shall_v once_o know_v this_o to_o be_v true_a then_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v the_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v pleasant_a unto_o us._n loe_o now_o why_o david_n by_o &_o by_o add_v my_o trust_n be_v in_o thy_o word_n o_o lord_n this_o be_v also_o in_o sum_n our_o faith_n which_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n when_o i_o say_v that_o it_o be_v faith_n which_o bring_v we_o into_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n i_o mean_v that_o after_o we_o have_v understand_v of_o his_o good_a will_n that_o we_o be_v they_o stir_v up_o to_o yield_v ourselves_o unto_o he_o and_o until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o have_v imprint_v in_o our_o heart_n the_o testimony_n of_o his_o love_n and_o the_o benefit_n which_o he_o mean_v unto_o we_o we_o shall_v fly_v from_o he_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v and_o as_o often_o as_o this_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v sound_v in_o our_o ear_n so_o often_o shall_v it_o grieve_v and_o torment_v we_o as_o we_o see_v how_o the_o faithless_a do_v fear_n when_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v speak_v unto_o they_o it_o bring_v untoo_o they_o nothing_o but_o terror_n and_o fear_n as_o if_o a_o thief_n or_o murderer_n be_v bring_v before_o a_o judge_n but_o when_o as_o we_o have_v faith_n to_o stay_v ourselves_o upon_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n too_o call_v upon_o he_o as_o david_n do_v here_o our_o succour_n and_o shield_n we_o may_v call_v upon_o he_o with_o such_o a_o confidence_n as_o that_o he_o will_v never_o be_v deaf_a too_o hear_v our_o prayer_n when_o then_o we_o be_v thus_o assure_v we_o be_v forthwith_o win_v to_o love_v he_o then_o delight_v we_o to_o yield_v our_o obedience_n unto_o his_o law_n now_o in_o follow_v that_o which_o we_o have_v already_o declare_v david_n again_o add_v away_o from_o i_o you_o wicked_a for_o i_o will_v keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o my_o god_n here_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o temptation_n which_o come_v unto_o we_o by_o reason_n of_o know_v my_o need_n and_o have_v promise_v also_o to_o help_v all_o those_o which_o call_v upon_o thou_o deal_v then_o o_o lord_n with_o thy_o servant_n according_a too_o thy_o mercy_n to_o the_o end_n thou_o may_v teach_v i_o by_o this_o we_o see_v that_o which_o i_o have_v already_o touch_v to_o wit_n that_o this_o verse_n contain_v not_o two_o petition_n but_o one_o only_a and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o david_n so_o set_v it_o forth_o in_o declare_v that_o when_o he_o come_v to_o god_n to_o pray_v he_o to_o teach_v he_o that_o he_o do_v it_o not_o to_o the_o end_n that_o he_o presume_v of_o his_o meritte_n neither_o yet_o to_o make_v vaunt_v that_o he_o deserve_v any_o thing_n of_o he_o wherefore_o then_o forsooth_o because_o he_o look_v and_o trust_v to_o the_o mere_a if_o god_n pay_v unto_o we_o our_o wage_n but_o his_o mercy_n must_v always_o go_v before_o for_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o we_o receive_v so_o many_o benefit_n at_o his_o hand_n and_o especial_o that_o we_o be_v teach_v his_o statute_n now_o it_o follow_v i_o be_o thy_o seruavant_n grant_v i_o therefore_o understand_v that_o i_o may_v know_v thy_o testimony_n this_o be_v a_o more_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n i_o be_o thou_o now_o come_v it_o of_o ourselves_o that_o we_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n have_v we_o obtain_v this_o estate_n or_o degree_n as_o of_o ourselves_o alas_o it_o be_v very_o far_o of_o for_o we_o have_v it_o of_o free_a gift_n since_o the_o time_n that_o we_o be_v the_o bondslave_n of_o satan_n god_n have_v take_v we_o unto_o himself_o to_o be_v of_o his_o household_n and_o of_o his_o number_n in_o that_o then_o that_o we_o be_v his_o it_o be_v not_o because_o we_o have_v deserve_v it_o but_o because_o he_o say_v that_o he_o be_v worthy_a of_o the_o service_n of_o such_o a_o master_n nor_o yet_o that_o he_o be_v put_v unto_o he_o therefore_o but_o will_v thus_o say_v sir_n i_o confess_v that_o you_o have_v receive_v i_o into_o your_o service_n of_o your_o mere_a favour_n and_o grace_n and_o have_v do_v i_o the_o honour_n which_o appertein_v not_o unto_o i_o and_o thus_o shall_v we_o most_o any_o vaunt_n of_o the_o service_n which_o he_o have_v do_v to_o god_n but_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n thou_o have_v show_v i_o that_o favour_n and_o grace_n too_o be_v one_o of_o thy_o number_n and_o have_v receive_v i_o into_o it_o through_o thy_o bounty_n and_o goodness_n i_o beseech_v thou_o therefore_o to_o continue_v the_o same_o thy_o goodness_n and_o too_o heap_v grace_n upon_o grace_n in_o i_o as_o in_o that_o behalf_n thou_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v let_v we_o now_o come_v unto_o his_o petition_n he_o say_v o_o grant_v i_o understanding_n that_o i_o may_v keep_v thy_o testimony_n we_o have_v already_o say_v that_o he_o handle_v that_o which_o he_o have_v late_o speak_v for_o by_o these_o word_n he_o mean_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v always_o be_v after_o a_o natural_a manner_n moreover_o when_o we_o shall_v talk_v of_o the_o secret_n of_o the_o heavenly_a life_n &_o of_o the_o wisdom_n which_o god_n show_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n there_o must_v all_o man_n confess_v that_o all_o their_o sense_n fail_v they_o and_o that_o all_o their_o reason_n be_v dead_a and_o bury_v what_o be_v then_o to_o be_v do_v let_v we_o come_v to_o the_o remedy_n which_o david_n here_o give_v we_o to_o wit_n that_o we_o desire_v of_o god_n to_o have_v understanding_n that_o we_o may_v become_v very_o well_o learned_a for_o without_o that_o we_o must_v continue_v and_o remain_v still_o in_o our_o beastliness_n and_o this_o prayer_n answer_v and_o weary_a well_o agree_v with_o that_o which_o we_o have_v see_v in_o the_o verse_n next_o before_o as_o that_o matter_n have_v be_v already_o touch_v now_o it_o follow_v soon_o after_o it_o be_v time_n for_o the_o lord_n to_o lay_v to_o his_o hand_n for_o they_o have_v destroy_v thy_o law_n here_o david_n make_v a_o petition_n against_o the_o contemner_n of_o god_n and_o transgresser_n of_o his_o law_n say_v that_o it_o be_v time_n for_o the_o lord_n to_o lay_v his_o hand_n since_o that_o he_o see_v his_o law_n to_o be_v so_o destroy_v that_o there_o be_v no_o account_n make_v of_o it_o it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o david_n great_o desire_v the_o conversion_n of_o all_o man_n and_o by_o little_a and_o little_a their_o salvation_n and_o it_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o he_o pray_v too_o god_n with_o a_o good_a affection_n that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o bring_v to_o repentance_n all_o those_o which_o he_o see_v to_o be_v lead_v unto_o wickedness_n but_o yet_o he_o be_v not_o without_o this_o zeal_n which_o we_o see_v in_o this_o place_n that_o be_v that_o god_n will_v execute_v his_o

importance_n but_o open_v unto_o we_o his_o mystery_n which_o be_v far_o beyond_o our_o reach_n and_o capacity_n except_o that_o of_o his_o infinite_a goodness_n he_o bear_v we_o that_o favour_n too_o fit_a himself_o to_o our_o understanding_n now_o david_n add_v in_o the_o second_o verse_n the_o entrance_n into_o thy_o word_n show_v light_a and_o give_v understand_v unto_o the_o most_o simple_a wherein_o he_o signify_v that_o if_o we_o understand_v not_o all_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n which_o he_o show_v unto_o we_o in_o his_o word_n we_o must_v not_o straightways_o therefore_o say_v that_o the_o doctrine_n be_v unprofitable_a unto_o us._n why_o so_o because_o the_o only_a savoure_n which_o we_o shall_v feel_v therein_o shall_v profit_v us._n it_o be_v not_o nedeful_a that_o we_o be_v great_a clerk_n nor_o perfect_a doctor_n to_o receive_v some_o benefire_n and_o edify_n from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o we_o can_v not_o have_v so_o small_a a_o entrance_n into_o it_o but_o that_o we_o shall_v become_v already_o both_o wise_a and_o well_o advise_v loe_o here_o in_o sum_n the_o meaning_n of_o the_o second_o verse_n and_o it_o be_v a_o place_n which_o we_o very_o well_o ought_v to_o observe_v for_o like_a as_o there_o be_v a_o great_a sort_n of_o people_n which_o make_v no_o account_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n because_o they_o never_o taste_v of_o the_o mystery_n therein_o contain_v even_o so_o also_o there_o be_v some_o which_o excuse_v themselves_o and_o say_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v too_o too_o dark_a and_o hard_a in_o so_o much_o that_o it_o make_v they_o too_o fly_v from_o it_o &_o dare_v not_o come_v near_o it_o alas_o will_v one_o say_v i_o be_o a_o very_a ignorant_a soul_n or_o i_o be_o not_o so_o sharp_a witted_a as_o in_o deed_n a_o man_n will_v judge_v or_o else_o i_o be_o but_o a_o simple_a scholar_n and_o therefore_o can_v not_o conceive_v of_o so_o high_a mystery_n lo_o here_o what_o excuse_v a_o number_n of_o man_n will_v make_v because_o they_o will_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o word_n of_o god_n no_o doubt_n of_o it_o we_o shall_v have_v of_o those_o people_n which_o will_v use_v such_o excuse_n and_o startinghole_n only_o because_o they_o will_v be_v ignorant_a and_o have_v their_o eye_n fast_o close_v up_o although_o they_o have_v the_o light_n of_o god_n too_o shine_v upon_o they_o again_o there_o be_v another_o sort_n which_o will_v keep_v themselves_o clean_o away_o from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n fear_v that_o if_o they_o shall_v once_o enter_v into_o it_o that_o it_o will_v be_v like_a unto_o a_o maze_n wherein_o they_o shall_v be_v hold_v fast_o in_o and_o so_o be_v utter_o confound_v and_o therefore_o let_v we_o for_o this_o cause_n thorough_o consider_v the_o say_n of_o david_n to_o wit_n that_o although_o we_o attain_v not_o unto_o such_o a_o perfection_n as_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o understand_v and_o know_v whatsoever_o be_v write_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o to_o be_v so_o exercise_v therein_o even_o at_o the_o full_a as_o that_o nothing_o have_v escape_v we_o but_o let_v we_o be_v thorough_o acquaint_v with_o the_o law_n and_o have_v the_o very_a true_a and_o undoubted_a exposition_n and_o meaning_n of_o the_o prophet_n yea_o and_o let_v we_o know_v and_o understand_v the_o gospel_n at_o our_o finger_n end_n and_o yet_o although_o i_o say_v we_o have_v not_o attain_v unto_o this_o excellency_n let_v we_o not_o for_o all_o this_o cease_v to_o be_v enlighten_v let_v we_o then_o bold_o approach_v when_o as_o we_o see_v that_o god_n call_v and_o allure_v we_o and_o be_v ready_a to_o teach_v we_o his_o word_n and_o let_v we_o know_v that_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v never_o so_o little_a a_o taste_n thereof_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v for_o our_o salvation_n so_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v altogether_o blind_a but_o that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o know_v which_o be_v the_o right_a way_n unto_o everlasting_a life_n to_o be_v short_a we_o shall_v be_v enlighten_v as_o david_n speak_v of_o in_o this_o place_n and_o hereby_o we_o may_v see_v what_o a_o great_a abuse_n at_o this_o day_n reign_v in_o this_o already_o even_o enough_o to_o lead_v and_o guide_v we_o to_o everlasting_a life_n now_o since_o then_o we_o see_v how_o the_o devil_n possess_v the_o papist_n when_o as_o under_o such_o a_o cloak_n they_o withdraw_v the_o simple_a people_n from_o the_o read_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n yea_o in_o forbid_v it_o they_o with_o such_o a_o cruel_a tyranny_n let_v we_o for_o our_o part_n have_v so_o himself_o unto_o we_o continue_v still_o more_o and_o more_o our_o good_a god_n and_o give_v we_o so_o great_a leisure_n and_o large_a a_o time_n to_o profit_v in_o his_o school_n and_o why_o so_o because_o than_o tree_n alone_o be_v clear_a and_o bright_a what_o will_v it_o then_o be_v when_o as_o we_o shall_v enter_v on_o somewhat_o further_o that_o even_o in_o the_o very_a entrance_n we_o find_v salvation_n in_o what_o case_n then_o i_o beseech_v you_o shall_v we_o be_v when_o as_o we_o shall_v have_v once_o pass_v the_o midway_n on_o and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o david_n may_v the_o better_o express_v that_o the_o question_n be_v not_o here_o of_o the_o great_a learned_a doctor_n he_o namely_o say_v that_o it_o give_v instruction_n to_o the_o simple_a and_o silly_a soul_n to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v have_v light_a and_o understanding_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v that_o god_n have_v so_o communicate_v his_o word_n unto_o we_o and_o in_o such_o sort_n frame_v and_o wrought_v it_o for_o our_o understanding_n as_o that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o most_o simple_a &_o ignorant_a which_o shall_v not_o find_v himself_o capable_a to_o be_v the_o scholar_n of_o god_n yea_o so_o that_o we_o come_v unto_o it_o in_o all_o lowliness_n and_o humbleness_n for_o david_n in_o say_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n make_v the_o lowly_a to_o understand_v right_o well_o show_v be_v humble_v &_o throw_v down_o in_o ourselves_o to_o send_v god_n may_v lighten_v us._n and_o then_o let_v we_o not_o doubt_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v feel_v god_n to_o be_v ever_o more_o ready_a to_o play_v the_o part_n of_o a_o good_a schoolmaster_n unto_o we_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v show_v ourselves_o to_o be_v true_a and_o dutiful_a scholar_n now_o by_o and_o by_o follow_v i_o open_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n now_o here_o david_n show_v how_o it_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v enlighten_v that_o be_v that_o after_o we_o be_v know_v to_o be_v lowly_a and_o humble_v feel_v our_o want_n and_o necessity_n let_v we_o sigh_v &_o groan_n unto_o the_o majesty_n of_o our_o god_n in_o beseech_v he_o to_o instruct_v us._n
who_o he_o so_o great_o love_v as_o the_o scripture_n witness_v of_o he_o now_o here_o we_o be_v to_o note_v two_o thing_n the_o one_o be_v that_o when_o david_n desire_v god_n to_o look_v upon_o his_o affliction_n and_o to_o deliver_v he_o out_o of_o they_o he_o confess_v that_o he_o be_v astony_v as_o if_o god_n have_v turn_v his_o back_n upon_o he_o it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o david_n consider_v not_o of_o all_o that_o be_v too_o be_v consider_v neither_o do_v he_o conclude_v that_o god_n will_v cast_v off_o his_o child_n in_o such_o sort_n but_o yet_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o natural_a reason_n can_v reach_v see_v how_o he_o may_v judge_v of_o his_o estate_n and_o at_o that_o point_n also_o be_v all_o the_o child_n of_o god_n for_o on_o the_o one_o side_n when_o as_o they_o shall_v look_v upon_o their_o own_o state_n and_o condition_n they_o can_v choose_v but_o that_o they_o must_v be_v force_v to_o say_v what_o a_o thing_n be_v this_o sure_o if_o god_n have_v any_o compassion_n upon_o we_o and_o that_o he_o see_v we_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o ever_o we_o shall_v be_v thus_o cruel_o handle_v will_v not_o he_o take_v some_o better_a order_n for_o this_o see_v then_o that_o we_o can_v choose_v but_o to_o conceive_v these_o and_o such_o like_a imagination_n in_o our_o heart_n when_o as_o we_o be_v greeve_v and_o persecute_v and_o look_v into_o our_o own_o present_a estate_n yea_o even_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v we_o can_v choose_v even_o too_o feel_v ourselves_o as_o it_o be_v to_o be_v forsake_v of_o god._n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o we_o must_v be_v full_o persuade_v and_o resolve_v that_o god_n behold_v we_o and_o although_o it_o seem_v that_o he_o have_v turn_v his_o back_n upon_o we_o yet_o that_o he_o cease_v not_o too_o help_v we_o and_o be_v careful_a for_o our_o salvation_n yea_o and_o though_o we_o see_v nothing_o yet_o let_v we_o hold_v this_o for_o a_o certain_a and_o a_o undoubted_a truth_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o therefore_o so_o often_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v thus_o trouble_v to_o think_v that_o god_n have_v no_o long_a care_n over_o we_o but_o that_o he_o have_v clere_o forsake_v we_o yet_o let_v not_o this_o hinder_v we_o from_o pray_v after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n neither_o let_v we_o be_v slack_a but_o even_o say_v o_o lord_n behold_v i_o in_o the_o second_o place_n we_o have_v to_o note_v those_o that_o be_v he_o and_o too_o aid_v they_o in_o all_o their_o necessity_n and_o beside_o this_o must_v be_v our_o sure_a foundation_n that_o his_o promise_n be_v infallible_a and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v his_o child_n to_o go_v empty_a away_o when_o as_o they_o shall_v tend_v themselves_o thereto_o see_v then_o how_o we_o must_v meditate_v upon_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v upon_o his_o word_n for_o under_o this_o word_n the_o law_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o david_n comprehend_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o the_o doctrine_n which_o god_n give_v unto_o his_o church_n every_o of_o we_o than_o must_v be_v exercise_v in_o this_o study_n and_o we_o have_v the_o law_n thus_o imprint_v in_o our_o heart_n may_v be_v certain_a and_o sure_a that_o god_n behold_v we_o and_o will_v help_v we_o in_o all_o our_o affliction_n yea_o although_o it_o seem_v and_o we_o may_v judge_v according_a to_o our_o carnal_a sense_n that_o he_o have_v turn_v his_o back_n upon_o we_o or_o that_o he_o have_v close_v up_o his_o eye_n and_o sleep_v and_o as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v never_o think_v more_o of_o us._n now_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o second_o verse_n plead_v my_o cause_n and_o deliver_v i_o quicken_v i_o according_a unto_o thy_o word_n here_o david_n express_v what_o this_o his_o affection_n be_v whereof_o he_o have_v speak_v too_o wit_n how_o that_o the_o wicked_a unjust_o persecute_v he_o as_o again_o hereafter_o shall_v more_o at_o large_a be_v declare_v now_o we_o know_v that_o the_o grief_n which_o the_o child_n of_o god_n do_v withal_o when_o as_o we_o be_v oppress_v with_o false_a and_o slanderous_a report_n that_o we_o be_v evil_o speak_v of_o without_o just_a desert_n we_o must_v they_o desire_v god_n to_o be_v our_o warrant_n and_o deliverer_n and_o let_v we_o not_o doubt_v but_o that_o he_o will_v take_v our_o cause_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n &_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v more_o than_o a_o protector_n &_o lawyer_n for_o he_o say_v that_o he_o be_v the_o adverse_a party_n for_o the_o maintenance_n and_o defence_n of_o the_o cause_n and_o quarrel_n of_o all_o his_o when_o as_o they_o shall_v have_v walk_v sincere_o before_o himself_o &_o before_o man_n loe_o here_o a_o notable_a and_o very_o profitable_a admonition_n that_o be_v we_o must_v cast_v all_o our_o care_n upon_o god_n when_o as_o we_o be_v wrongful_o accuse_v injurious_o deal_v withal_o trouble_v and_o oppress_v and_o beseech_v god_n to_o take_v the_o cause_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o to_o avenge_v it_o himself_o now_o this_o may_v serve_v too_o make_v we_o patient_a for_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o man_n so_o trouble_v and_o torment_v themselves_o wax_v so_o fierce_a and_o cruel_a use_v revenge_n or_o else_o grow_v to_o be_v very_a coward_n when_o any_o wrong_n be_v do_v they_o but_o because_o that_o they_o have_v not_o recourse_n unto_o god_n put_v not_o themselves_o under_o his_o protection_n &_o pray_v he_o not_o to_o hold_v his_o holy_a hand_n over_o they_o and_o to_o defend_v their_o cause_n now_o if_o we_o know_v this_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o our_o heart_n shall_v incontinent_a be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o quiet_a and_o let_v we_o not_o have_v such_o boil_a affection_n as_o we_o have_v to_o be_v avenge_v of_o they_o which_o trouble_v we_o but_o let_v we_o follow_v the_o doctrine_n underfoot_o but_o that_o he_o will_v stretch_v forth_o his_o hand_n too_o help_v they_o he_o have_v know_v this_o call_v upon_o god_n with_o a_o sure_a constancy_n that_o will_v receive_v he_o wherefore_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o we_o look_v unto_o this_o promise_n when_o as_o we_o pray_v to_o the_o end_n we_o pray_v not_o doubtful_o but_o in_o full_a assurance_n that_o god_n will_v be_v contemn_v and_o disdain_v once_o to_o look_v on_o see_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n extend_v so_o far_o as_o the_o holy_a scripture_n teach_v we_o how_o can_v it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v forsake_v we_o yea_o unto_o who_o he_o have_v grant_v so_o great_a dignity_n and_o excellency_n for_o we_o have_v a_o thing_n excel_v all_o other_o his_o creature_n which_o be_v this_o that_o god_n have_v imprinted-his_a own_o similitude_n and_o likeness_n in_o we_o now_o when_o as_o he_o have_v exalt_v we_o unto_o so_o high_a a_o degree_n of_o honour_n will_v he_o think_v you_o now_o forsake_v we_o he_o will_v not_o without_o all_o doubt_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n then_o that_o we_o see_v so_o many_o caitiff_n and_o miserable_a wretch_n which_o be_v even_o give_v over_o so_o that_o god_n send_v they_o not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o jest_n aid_n and_o comfort_n that_o it_o seem_v that_o he_o have_v set_v they_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o stage_n to_o be_v a_o shame_n and_o rebuke_v to_o the_o whole_a world_n whence_o come_v this_o forsooth_o because_o they_o withdraw_v themselves_o from_o god_n for_o when_o as_o they_o withdraw_v not_o themselves_o from_o he_o it_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o then_o he_o show_v himself_o unto_o they_o such_o a_o one_o as_o indeed_o he_o be_v of_o his_o own_o nature_n that_o be_v love_v kind_a pitiful_a gentle_a &_o merciful_a to_o be_v short_a so_o long_o as_o we_o will_v be_v order_v by_o he_o as_o his_o child_n it_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o he_o will_v play_v the_o part_n of_o a_o father_n towards_o we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o will_v yield_v
