entangle_v a_o man_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o yield_v to_o the_o call_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o as_o i_o lay_v they_o down_o i_o shall_v labour_v to_o take_v they_o a_o way_n as_o 1._o the_o first_o temptation_n the_o devil_n will_v suggest_v be_v to_o you_o that_o be_v young_a man_n and_o to_o you_o he_o will_v suggest_v that_o you_o be_v yet_o too_o young_a to_o embrace_v the_o call_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o will_v be_v time_n enough_o hereafter_o and_o you_o may_v do_v it_o soon_o enough_o hereafter_o you_o be_v two_o young_a now_o to_o be_v abridge_v of_o your_o pleasure_n and_o to_o mortify_v your_o lust_n and_o to_o betake_v yourselves_o unto_o so_o serious_a a_o course_n as_o christ_n call_v you_o to_o and_o by_o this_o temptation_n the_o devil_n prevail_v with_o young_a man_n more_o especial_o and_o i_o remember_v austin_n say_v that_o this_o temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n make_v he_o keep_v off_o for_o seven_o year_n together_o from_o embrace_v the_o call_v of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o devil_n will_v still_o tell_v he_o in_o his_o heart_n thou_o be_v too_o young_a to_o leave_v thy_o drunkenness_n and_o too_o young_a to_o leave_v thy_o harlot_n till_o at_o last_o he_o cry_v out_o how_o long_o shall_v i_o say_v it_o be_v too_o soon_o why_o may_v i_o not_o repent_v to_o day_n this_o temptation_n i_o say_v it_o have_v fasten_v upon_o many_o before_o you_o that_o they_o be_v too_o young_a to_o come_v in_o to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o this_o end_n the_o devil_n will_v suggest_v to_o you_o that_o old_a and_o false_a proverb_n a_o young_a saint_n and_o a_o old_a devil_n whereas_o indeed_o if_o you_o be_v young_a devil_n you_o will_v be_v old_a beelzebub_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v a_o suggestion_n prevail_v witâ—_n many_o heart_n i_o shall_v lay_v down_o six_o consideration_n to_o take_v off_o this_o temptation_n that_o it_o may_v not_o prevail_v with_o you_o first_o if_o the_o devil_n tempt_v you_o that_o you_o be_v too_o young_a to_o hearken_v to_o christ_n call_v consider_v that_o the_o devil_n can_v give_v you_o a_o lease_n of_o your_o life_n if_o the_o devil_n can_v give_v you_o a_o lease_n of_o your_o life_n and_o tell_v you_o you_o shall_v live_v till_o old_a age_n you_o may_v then_o with_o more_o safety_n harken_v to_o his_o temptation_n but_o your_o life_n be_v not_o at_o the_o devil_n disposal_n god_n be_v the_o break_v he_o like_o a_o leaf_n drive_v with_o the_o wind_n o_o belove_a the_o sin_n of_o your_o youth_n though_o you_o shall_v be_v job_n convert_v yet_o they_o will_v bring_v great_a disquietness_n and_o great_a horror_n when_o you_o come_v to_o age_n the_o lust_n of_o youth_n and_o the_o vanity_n of_o youth_n and_o the_o sensual_a pleasure_n of_o your_o youthful_a day_n they_o will_v lay_v a_o foundation_n of_o sorrow_n when_o you_o come_v to_o gray_a hair_n to_o be_v near_o your_o grave_n so_o job_n 20.11_o and_o therefore_o put_v the_o case_n you_o shall_v repent_v and_o shall_v be_v call_v when_o you_o be_v old_a you_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o put_v off_o the_o call_v of_o jesus_n christ_n see_v sin_n of_o youth_n will_v fill_v you_o with_o horror_n and_o disquietness_n of_o mind_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o david_n after_o he_o be_v call_v by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n cry_v out_o psal_n 25._o lord_n remember_v not_o the_o sin_n of_o my_o youth_n that_o gravel_v and_o gall_v his_o conscience_n gravamina_fw-la the_o sin_n of_o his_o youth_n before_o he_o call_v it_o be_v the_o speech_n of_o a_o author_n that_o to_o look_v on_o the_o pleasurable_a vanity_n and_o content_n of_o youth_n this_o will_v become_v a_o heavy_a burden_n and_o bitter_a vexation_n to_o old_a age_n belove_a the_o more_o evil_a you_o run_v out_o into_o in_o your_o youthful_a day_n the_o great_a and_o deep_a foundation_n of_o disquietness_n and_o sorrow_n you_o lay_v in_o your_o soul_n in_o your_o latter_a day_n though_o you_o shall_v be_v call_v by_o jesus_n christ_n 4._o if_o the_o devil_n suggest_v that_o you_o be_v too_o young_a to_o embrace_v the_o invitation_n of_o christ_n consider_v that_o jesus_n christ_n will_v take_v it_o most_o kind_o at_o your_o hand_n if_o while_o you_o be_v young_a you_o will_v give_v entertainment_n to_o his_o call_v jer._n 2.2_o i_o remember_v thou_o say_v the_o lord_n and_o the_o kindness_n of_o thy_o youth_n that_o thou_o will_v follow_v i_o in_o the_o wilderness_n in_o a_o land_n that_o be_v not_o sow_v mark_v how_o the_o lord_n speak_v and_o how_o kind_o he_o take_v it_o that_o they_o will_v in_o their_o youth_n follow_v god_n the_o lord_n will_v remember_v it_o and_o take_v it_o acceptable_a from_o you_o if_o while_o you_o be_v young_a while_o the_o marrow_n be_v in_o your_o bone_n and_o strength_n in_o your_o joint_n you_o will_v embrace_v the_o way_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v a_o observation_n that_o some_o have_v concern_v the_o belove_a disciple_n john_n john_n 20._o he_o be_v call_v the_o disciple_n who_o christ_n love_v and_o that_o lean_v upon_o his_o breast_n of_o all_o the_o other_o eleven_o disciple_n christ_n do_v love_n john_n above_o the_o rest_n and_o divine_n give_v this_o reason_n of_o it_o john_n be_v the_o young_a of_o all_o the_o disciple_n he_o be_v convert_v and_o call_v by_o christ_n when_o he_o be_v a_o young_a
to_o be_v poor_a in_o faith_n and_o to_o be_v such_o a_o beggar_n as_o not_o to_o be_v endow_v with_o one_o dram_n of_o grace_n and_o then_o you_o be_v beggar_n indeed_o as_o we_o say_v he_o be_v a_o poor_a man_n that_o god_n hate_v he_o that_o have_v not_o christ_n and_o have_v not_o the_o treasure_n of_o heaven_n in_o he_o he_o be_v expose_v to_o worse_a poverty_n a_o thousand_o time_n then_o he_o can_v be_v for_o embrace_v the_o call_v of_o jesus_n christ_n rev._n 3.17_o yea_o and_o he_o be_v expose_v to_o worse_a persecution_n also_o that_o for_o fear_n of_o persecution_n neglect_v jesus_n christ_n psal_n 83.5_o the_o lord_n will_v persecute_v they_o say_v david_n with_o fury_n and_o wrath_n speak_v of_o wicked_a man_n all_o persecution_n from_o man_n reach_v but_o to_o the_o body_n but_o this_o from_o god_n reach_v to_o the_o soul_n 7._o and_o then_o last_o this_o shall_v not_o hinder_v you_o from_o follow_a jesus_n christ_n consider_v that_o though_o you_o shall_v be_v poor_a and_o shall_v be_v persecute_v yet_o heaven_n will_v make_v you_o amends_o for_o all_o heb._n 11.35_o heaven_n will_v make_v amends_o for_o poverty_n when_o you_o be_v endow_v with_o all_o the_o riches_n of_o christ_n and_o heaven_n will_v make_v amends_o for_o persecution_n when_o there_o the_o weary_a shall_v be_v at_o rest_n and_o there_o the_o trouble_a shall_v be_v at_o ease_n and_o thus_o much_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o three_o suggestion_n of_o the_o devil_n that_o if_o you_o entertain_v the_o call_v of_o jesus_n christ_n you_o shall_v be_v expose_v to_o much_o poverty_n and_o persecution_n here_o in_o the_o world_n sermon_n vi_o 2._o pet._n 1.10_o wherefore_o the_o rather_o brethren_n give_v all_o diligence_n to_o make_v your_o call_v and_o election_n sure_a the_o and_o that_o be_v this_o why_o say_v the_o devil_n if_o you_o will_v entertain_v the_o call_n of_o christ_n you_o will_v abridge_v yourselves_o of_o all_o the_o joy_n and_o comfort_n of_o your_o life_n you_o will_v never_o have_v merry_a day_n while_o you_o live_v upon_o earth_n you_o see_v man_n that_o pretend_v to_o be_v convert_v and_o do_v hear_v sermon_n what_o lumpish_a and_o melancholy_a man_n they_o be_v not_o so_o jocund_a and_o jolly_a as_o other_o be_v that_o walk_v not_o so_o precise_o if_o you_o follow_v christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n this_o will_v cashier_v all_o from_o christianity_n and_o the_o protestant_a religion_n they_o will_v hold_v their_o disciple_n in_o hand_n with_o this_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o calvinist_n be_v a_o sad_a and_o lumpish_a spirit_n and_o therefore_o they_o will_v dissuade_v all_o nation_n from_o turn_v to_o their_o religion_n and_o this_o the_o priest_n be_v to_o tell_v in_o all_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n how_o sad_a and_o melancholy_a they_o be_v that_o turn_v to_o the_o calvinist_n religion_n and_o this_o do_v mighty_o stay_v the_o people_n from_o embrace_v the_o truth_n and_o this_o aspersion_n have_v pass_v from_o hand_n to_o hand_n and_o be_v many_o time_n prevalent_a upon_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n that_o be_v of_o the_o true_a religion_n that_o they_o must_v not_o be_v too_o forward_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o religion_n fear_v lest_o this_o shall_v work_v melancholy_a and_o sad_a thought_n in_o they_o now_o to_o take_v off_o this_o i_o shall_v only_o urge_v four_o or_o five_o head_n brief_o first_o whereas_o you_o say_v they_o be_v melancholy_a &_o sad_a that_o be_v call_v by_o christ_n to_o a_o profession_n of_o his_o way_n i_o will_v answer_v thus_o that_o they_o of_o all_o people_n cause_n of_o joy_n and_o gladness_n and_o they_o have_v not_o only_o most_v cause_n but_o they_o do_v most_o true_o rejoice_v and_o have_v more_o real_a joy_n in_o their_o heart_n in_o one_o day_n than_o the_o wicked_a can_v have_v all_o their_o life_n 1_o pet._n 1.8_o they_o rejoice_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o full_a of_o glory_n what_o joy_v you_o have_v in_o the_o world_n the_o tongue_n be_v able_a to_o speak_v of_o it_o but_o the_o tongue_n be_v not_o able_a to_o speak_v of_o that_o inward_a joy_n that_o godly_a man_n have_v in_o their_o heart_n upon_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o interest_n they_o have_v in_o jesus_n christ_n psal_n 4.6_o lord_n lift_v thou_o up_o the_o light_n of_o thy_o countenance_n and_o thou_o shall_v put_v more_o gladness_n in_o my_o heart_n be_v a_o fruit_n only_o of_o common_a providence_n god_n by_o a_o overrule_a providence_n send_v the_o gospel_n among_o a_o people_n and_o thereby_o call_v they_o to_o a_o outward_a compliance_n and_o conformity_n but_o effectual_a call_v be_v a_o fruit_n of_o god_n election_n 2._o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o description_n that_o effectual_a call_v it_o change_v the_o heart_n whereby_o god_n work_v a_o wonderful_a change_n in_o the_o heart_n but_o a_o external_a call_v no_o way_n reach_v the_o heart_n only_o work_v some_o kind_n of_o civil_a or_o common_a alteration_n in_o the_o life_n 3._o it_o be_v say_v effectual_a call_v be_v wrought_v by_o the_o inward_a operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n accompany_v the_o outward_a ministry_n of_o the_o word_n whereas_o a_o external_n call_v be_v only_o by_o the_o word_n but_o no_o inward_a save_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n at_o all_o 4._o it_o be_v say_v of_o effectual_a call_v that_o it_o be_v from_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n but_o external_n call_v be_v only_o from_o the_o external_a act_n of_o sin_n indeed_o by_o a_o external_a call_v the_o word_n may_v have_v that_o power_n over_o a_o man_n as_o to_o restrain_v and_o keep_v in_o the_o visâ—ble_a and_o external_a act_n of_o sin_n but_o it_o no_o way_n work_v upon_o the_o inclination_n to_o take_v off_o the_o affection_n from_o sin_n whereas_o the_o effectual_a call_v work_n upon_o
