and_o sound_o teach_v of_o he_o this_o be_v it_o that_o david_n desire_v he_o protest_v that_o he_o have_v believe_v the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o have_v know_v the_o majesty_n contain_v therein_o to_o have_v obey_v it_o and_o to_o have_v yield_v himself_o subject_a unto_o the_o same_o when_o he_o have_v make_v this_o protestation_n o_o lord_n say_v he_o now_o that_o i_o have_v feel_v the_o power_n and_o virtue_n of_o thy_o word_n and_o have_v chief_o be_v desirous_a thereof_o grant_v i_o this_o grace_n that_o i_o may_v comprehend_v it_o loe_o here_o a_o notable_a place_n and_o worthy_a the_o note_n for_o in_o the_o first_o place_n we_o be_v advertise_v that_o we_o shall_v never_o profit_v ourselves_o either_o in_o the_o gospel_n or_o yet_o in_o any_o part_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n if_o we_o have_v not_o this_o modesty_n with_o we_o as_o too_o yield_v ourselves_o too_o god_n with_o this_o persuasion_n that_o the_o same_o which_o we_o account_v too_o be_v good_a and_o faithful_a with_o we_o be_v nothing_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o which_o he_o mean_v too_o do_v therein_o on_o his_o behalf_n consider_v that_o he_o have_v show_v it_o untoo_o we_o for_o we_o be_v simple_a and_o ignorant_a and_o can_v conceive_v the_o thing_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o our_o salvation_n until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o have_v yield_v our_o mind_n to_o this_o reason_n and_o lo_o wherefore_o there_o be_v so_o few_o scholar_n of_o god_n at_o this_o day_n in_o this_o point_n for_o how_o many_o shall_v we_o find_v at_o this_o day_n which_o have_v their_o mind_n so_o humble_v as_o it_o ought_v but_o the_o great_a part_n be_v arrogant_a fool_n we_o shall_v find_v very_o many_o in_o this_o behalf_n that_o will_v make_v no_o more_o account_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n then_o if_o a_o mortal_a and_o silly_a man_n have_v speak_v forsomuch_o then_o as_o man_n come_v thus_o too_o god_n with_o such_o a_o pride_n let_v we_o not_o wonder_v although_o he_o leave_v they_o without_o wit_n or_o reason_n and_o although_o the_o sun_n shine_v bright_a before_o their_o eye_n yet_o remain_v they_o continual_o blind_a and_o grope_v about_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a and_o wander_v about_o even_o too_o the_o hazard_n of_o their_o neck_n break_v we_o must_v not_o be_v abash_v at_o this_o although_o god_n deprive_v they_o of_o his_o grace_n since_o they_o will_v not_o submit_v themselves_o untoo_o his_o word_n even_o so_o when_o as_o this_o shall_v be_v in_o we_o to_o attribute_v unto_o god_n the_o authority_n and_o honour_n which_o he_o be_v worthy_a off_o we_o may_v after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n hope_v that_o he_o will_v instruct_v we_o more_o and_o more_o and_o also_o make_v this_o request_n unto_o he_o for_o this_o be_v the_o first_o degree_n and_o step_n of_o all_o christian_a wisdom_n to_o wit_n to_o humble_v themselves_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o they_o be_v ever_o ready_a to_o receive_v whatsoever_o god_n shall_v say_v unto_o they_o when_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v thus_o prepare_v they_o can_v not_o do_v amiss_o nor_o yet_o fear_v that_o god_n will_v ever_o forsake_v they_o but_o that_o he_o will_v spread_v forth_o his_o power_n to_o maintain_v they_o as_o he_o have_v therein_o promise_v they_o to_o do_v and_o thus_o much_o as_o touch_v these_o two_o verse_n now_o it_o follow_v before_o i_o be_v trouble_v i_o go_v wrong_v but_o now_o i_o keep_v thy_o word_n here_o david_n signify_v that_o he_o be_v more_o daunt_v then_o ever_o he_o be_v because_o god_n correct_v he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v in_o very_a deed_n o_o lord_n among_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o benefit_n which_o i_o have_v already_o allege_v this_o be_v one_o that_o thou_o have_v make_v i_o to_o know_v myself_o through_o affliction_n lo_o it_o make_v i_o to_o keep_v thy_o commandment_n now_o when_o we_o tell_v god_n thus_o of_o the_o grace_n which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o that_o we_o may_v be_v prepare_v to_o serve_v he_o it_o be_v for_o this_o cause_n that_o he_o may_v increase_v and_o augment_v they_o more_o and_o more_o in_o we_o until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o have_v bring_v they_o to_o their_o perfect_a end_n now_o we_o have_v to_o note_v in_o this_o matter_n the_o order_n which_o david_n keep_v o_o lord_n say_v he_o i_o confess_v that_o i_o have_v err_v the_o first_o point_n be_v this_o confession_n which_o he_o make_v for_o when_o god_n find_v we_o to_o be_v untamed_a and_o hard_a to_o be_v keep_v in_o array_n it_o be_v meet_v that_o this_o our_o stubburnesse_n shall_v be_v pull_v down_o and_o he_o to_o show_v his_o authority_n over_o we_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v soon_o after_o feel_v his_o clemency_n and_o therefore_o david_n know_v that_o he_o be_v once_o very_o wild_a and_o untamed_a and_o have_v not_o walk_v in_o such_o fear_n of_o god_n as_o become_v he_o confess_v that_o although_o he_o have_v be_v teach_v yet_o that_o it_o be_v needful_a for_o god_n to_o set_v he_o in_o array_n and_o to_o keep_v he_o in_o good_a order_n o_o lord_n say_v he_o i_o confess_v that_o i_o have_v err_v yea_o and_o that_o be_v before_o thou_o have_v chastise_v i_o but_o now_o i_o keep_v thy_o commandment_n by_o this_o he_o signify_v in_o effect_n that_o which_o i_o have_v touch_v to_o wit_n that_o he_o be_v already_o prepare_v in_o this_o wisdom_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n yet_o he_o always_o pray_v that_o he_o will_v augment_v this_o grace_n in_o he_o and_o confirm_v he_o therein_o until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o be_v thorough_o make_v perfect_a in_o the_o mean_a while_o we_o have_v to_o note_v that_o david_n be_v not_o a_o man_n altogether_o wicked_o bend_v ne_o yet_o so_o untamed_a as_o a_o great_a number_n of_o the_o contempner_n of_o god_n be_v it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o he_o commit_v very_o grievous_a and_o extreme_a offence_n be_v it_o but_o this_o adultery_n which_o he_o commit_v with_o bethsabe_n vrie_n his_o wife_n which_o be_v so_o horrible_a a_o act_n as_o that_o he_o deserve_v even_o for_o that_o to_o be_v utter_o forsake_v of_o god_n and_o after_o that_o he_o become_v so_o proud_a when_o he_o will_v have_v muster_v the_o people_n as_o that_o he_o be_v violent_o carry_v with_o a_o vain_a and_o foolish_a arrogancy_n clean_o forget_v who_o it_o be_v that_o have_v advance_v he_o unto_o this_o royal_a seat_n and_o in_o stead_n of_o do_v homage_n unto_o god_n for_o such_o a_o notable_a benefit_n he_o determine_v with_o himself_o to_o have_v escape_v away_o on_o horseback_n loe_o what_o grievous_a and_o shameful_a fault_n these_o be_v but_o if_o we_o look_v into_o the_o course_n of_o his_o life_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o he_o be_v a_o man_n of_o a_o continual_a singleness_n very_o teacheable_a and_o full_a of_o courtesy_n follow_v the_o vocation_n of_o god_n and_o whole_o give_v thereto_o now_o herein_o appear_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o a_o man_n which_o outrage_v all_o the_o day_n of_o his_o life_n and_o he_o which_o commit_v some_o particular_a evil_n show_v nevertheless_o in_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o life_n a_o fear_n of_o god_n as_o it_o may_v happen_v that_o a_o man_n shall_v serve_v god_n all_o his_o life_n and_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n may_v somewhat_o fall_v and_o perhaps_o very_o grievous_o as_o we_o see_v to_o have_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o david_n now_o we_o shall_v see_v other_o to_o be_v very_o wicked_a and_o to_o despise_v god_n all_o their_o life_n long_o delight_v altogether_o in_o wickedness_n but_o david_n never_o be_v such_o one_o and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o he_o confess_v that_o he_o have_v err_v before_o such_o time_n as_o god_n have_v visit_v he_o with_o affliction_n and_o if_o this_o come_v so_o to_o pass_v in_o david_n alas_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o poor_a wretch_n so_o then_o let_v we_o understand_v that_o affliction_n be_v more_o necessary_a for_o we_o than_o bread_n and_o drink_n we_o crave_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v feed_v and_o nourish_v us._n it_o be_v very_o true_a and_o he_o give_v we_o leave_v for_o to_o make_v such_o request_n but_o yet_o we_o must_v not_o leave_v out_o the_o principal_a point_n to_o wit_n we_o must_v beseech_v he_o not_o to_o make_v we_o so_o fat_a as_o we_o make_v pamper_a
like_a as_o a_o david_n make_v here_o such_o a_o request_n so_o also_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v that_o he_o make_v it_o not_o of_o his_o own_o head_n nor_o at_o adventure_n but_o he_o know_v it_o to_o be_v the_o office_n of_o god_n that_o be_v that_o he_o will_v avenge_v all_o outrage_n 15._o exo._n 15._o as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o song_n of_o moses_n that_o if_o man_n oppress_v any_o unjust_o our_o lord_n say_v that_o it_o be_v be_v which_o avenge_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o innocent_a and_o of_o he_o that_o be_v trouble_v without_o a_o cause_n david_n then_o know_v that_o god_n have_v take_v this_o title_n unto_o himself_o and_o declare_v that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o throat_n of_o the_o righteous_a too_o be_v thus_o cut_v to_o be_v torment_v and_o tread_v underfoot_o but_o that_o he_o will_v stretch_v forth_o his_o hand_n too_o help_v they_o he_o have_v know_v this_o call_v upon_o god_n with_o a_o sure_a constancy_n that_o will_v receive_v he_o wherefore_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o we_o look_v unto_o this_o promise_n when_o as_o we_o pray_v to_o the_o end_n we_o pray_v not_o doubtful_o but_o in_o full_a assurance_n that_o god_n will_v be_v incontinent_a ready_a to_o help_v our_o necessity_n and_o this_o be_v it_o why_o david_n by_o and_o by_o after_o say_v quicken_v i_o according_a unto_o thy_o word_n it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n that_o this_o say_n be_v add_v for_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v when_o as_o we_o will_v beseech_v the_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n to_o take_v upon_o he_o our_o quarrel_n and_o too_o assist_v we_o in_o our_o affliction_n and_o then_o we_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n shall_v stand_v in_o doubt_n of_o his_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v profit_v ourselves_o little_a in_o so_o pray_v but_o we_o must_v be_v full_o assure_v that_o he_o will_v deliver_v us._n and_o whensoever_o it_o shall_v come_v too_o pass_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v destitute_a of_o all_o man_n aid_n yea_o that_o it_o shall_v seem_v that_o all_o the_o whole_a world_n have_v conspire_v our_o destruction_n and_o decay_n than_o shall_v we_o chiefly_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o god_n will_v avenge_v our_o cause_n and_o not_o only_o serve_v we_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o proctor_n but_o will_v be_v altogether_o also_o our_o judge_n &_o adverse_a party_n against_o our_o enemy_n and_o against_o all_o those_o which_o have_v unjust_o afflict_a us._n for_o he_o it_o be_v that_o must_v take_v in_o hand_n all_o just_a cause_n we_o have_v need_v then_o too_o assure_v ourselves_o of_o this_o but_o from_o whence_o shall_v we_o learn_v this_o even_o out_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n because_o he_o have_v leave_v unto_o we_o a_o testimony_n thereof_o in_o it_o as_o we_o see_v that_o david_n speak_v not_o here_o at_o a_o wild_a adventure_n but_o have_v already_o ground_v himself_o upon_o a_o good_a foundation_n whereon_o he_o have_v settle_v himself_o now_o it_o follow_v salvation_n be_v far_o from_o the_o ungodly_a because_o they_o seek_v not_o thy_o statute_n and_o afterward_o he_o say_v great_a be_v thy_o tender_a mercy_n o_o lord_n quicken_v i_o according_a to_o thy_o judgement_n now_o here_o be_v two_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v off_o the_o one_o be_v that_o david_n tell_v the_o reason_n why_o all_o the_o contemner_n of_o god_n and_o all_o that_o rebel_n against_o his_o majesty_n run_v headlong_o into_o destruction_n and_o that_o he_o forsake_v they_o that_o they_o feel_v no_o taste_n nor_o ease_n in_o their_o affliction_n but_o that_o god_n clere_o forsake_v they_o david_n set_v down_o here_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o it_o be_v say_v he_o because_o they_o have_v not_o seek_v after_o thy_o law_n and_o therefore_o be_v far_o from_o thy_o salvation_n now_o he_o clean_o contrary_a protest_v of_o himself_o that_o he_o follow_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o keep_v it_o in_o his_o heart_n so_o then_o we_o must_v needs_o conclude_v that_o he_o can_v not_o be_v estrange_v from_o it_o in_o very_a deed_n this_o sentence_n at_o the_o first_o sight_n be_v somewhat_o dark_a but_o i_o will_v make_v it_o plain_a in_o three_o word_n and_o then_o by_o little_a and_o little_o show_v what_o doctrine_n we_o be_v too_o gather_v out_o of_o this_o when_o any_o tell_v we_o of_o our_o salvation_n we_o must_v in_o the_o first_o place_n know_v whence_o it_o proceed_v to_o wit_n from_o god_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o salvation_n but_o in_o he_o in_o so_o much_o that_o so_o long_o as_o god_n be_v good_a and_o gracious_a unto_o we_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o all_o must_v go_v very_o well_o on_o our_o side_n and_o be_v assure_v that_o our_o life_n be_v bless_v and_o that_o we_o shall_v want_v nothing_o that_o be_v meet_v for_o our_o welfare_n and_o felicity_n so_o then_o our_o salvation_n and_o all_o fullness_n and_o perfection_n of_o benefit_n consist_v in_o this_o one_o only_a point_n that_o god_n love_v we_o and_o receive_v we_o unto_o himself_o and_o since_o it_o be_v so_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v what_o he_o be_v who_o god_n will_v forsake_v once_o we_o be_v his_o creature_n and_o even_o as_o he_o have_v create_v and_o fashion_v we_o so_o also_o will_v he_o continne_v his_o goodness_n towards_o us._n now_o see_v that_o his_o mercy_n extend_v even_o to_o brute_n beast_n even_o to_o the_o most_o vile_a and_o abject_a thing_n yea_o even_a which_o we_o contemn_v and_o disdain_v once_o to_o look_v on_o see_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n extend_v so_o far_o as_o the_o holy_a scripture_n teach_v we_o how_o can_v it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v forsake_v we_o yea_o unto_o who_o he_o have_v grant_v so_o great_a dignity_n and_o excellency_n for_o we_o have_v a_o thing_n excel_v all_o other_o his_o creature_n which_o be_v this_o that_o god_n have_v imprinted-his_a own_o similitude_n and_o likeness_n in_o we_o now_o when_o as_o he_o have_v exalt_v we_o unto_o so_o high_a a_o degree_n of_o honour_n will_v he_o think_v you_o now_o forsake_v we_o he_o will_v not_o without_o all_o doubt_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n then_o that_o we_o see_v so_o many_o caitiff_n and_o miserable_a wretch_n which_o be_v even_o give_v over_o so_o that_o god_n send_v they_o not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o jest_n aid_n and_o comfort_n that_o it_o seem_v that_o he_o have_v set_v they_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o stage_n to_o be_v a_o shame_n and_o rebuke_v to_o the_o whole_a world_n whence_o come_v this_o forsooth_o because_o they_o withdraw_v themselves_o from_o god_n for_o when_o as_o they_o withdraw_v not_o themselves_o from_o he_o it_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o then_o he_o show_v himself_o unto_o they_o such_o a_o one_o as_o indeed_o he_o be_v of_o his_o own_o nature_n that_o be_v love_v kind_a pitiful_a gentle_a &_o merciful_a to_o be_v short_a so_o long_o as_o we_o will_v be_v order_v by_o he_o as_o his_o child_n it_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o he_o will_v play_v the_o part_n of_o a_o father_n towards_o we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o will_v yield_v our_o obedience_n unto_o he_o he_o will_v entreat_v we_o gentle_o but_o when_o we_o be_v so_o perverse_a as_o that_o we_o will_v not_o submit_v ourselves_o neither_o unto_o himself_o nor_o yet_o unto_o his_o word_n but_o contemn_v his_o love_n &_o grace_n offer_v unto_o we_o be_v it_o reason_n that_o god_n shall_v put_v forth_o his_o hand_n to_o help_v we_o be_v it_o meet_v he_o shall_v entreat_v we_o as_o his_o child_n and_o account_v we_o in_o the_o number_n of_o those_o which_o whole_o dedicate_v themselves_o unto_o his_o majesty_n no_o not_o so_o but_o we_o rather_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v set_v far_o from_o he_o and_o too_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o to_o do_v with_o he_o loe_o here_o the_o meaning_n of_o david_n in_o this_o place_n when_o he_o say_v o_o lord_n health_n be_v far_o from_o the_o ungodly_a because_o they_o regard_v not_o thy_o statute_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v we_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v abash_v o_o lord_n although_o thou_o give_v we_o over_o and_o that_o we_o feel_v no_o succour_n of_o thy_o goodness_n but_o that_o we_o languish_v in_o all_o misery_n and_o calamity_n and_o why_o so_o because_o we_o have_v forsake_v and_o refuse_v thy_o grace_n and_o therefore_o of_o very_a right_n we_o ought_v to_o be_v confound_v and_o come_v to_o naught_o now_o i_o pray_v you_o tell_v we_o what_o mean_v it_o that_o god_n will_v not_o be_v nigh_o we_o but_o by_o mean_n of_o his_o word_n we_o must_v needs_o feel_v his_o goodness_n by_o the_o effect_n yea_o forsooth_o and_o yet_o god_n come_v nigh_o unto_o we_o by_o his_o word_n for_o that_o be_v a_o preparative_n by_o which_o he_o fashion_v our_o heart_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v show_v himself_o
we_o and_o therefore_o that_o we_o can_v fly_v from_o his_o hand_n but_o must_v submit_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o albeit_o we_o will_v not_o do_v it_o free_o and_o of_o our_o own_o accord_n and_o so_o let_v we_o willing_o be_v content_v to_o be_v rule_v by_o he_o be_v certify_v of_o his_o love_n and_o goodness_n towards_o we_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v in_o truth_n make_v this_o protestation_n which_o david_n here_o make_v according_a too_o this_o holy_a doctrine_n let_v we_o humble_o prostrate_v ourselves_o before_o the_o majesty_n of_o our_o good_a god_n in_o acknowledge_v our_o offence_n beseech_v he_o that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o make_v we_o to_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o his_o word_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o his_o holy_a prophet_n here_o show_v we_o and_o so_o too_o feel_v it_o as_o that_o we_o may_v whole_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o know_v that_o when_o it_o shall_v come_v in_o question_n for_o we_o too_o remit_v ourselves_o and_o cleave_v unto_o he_o as_o he_o require_v that_o we_o must_v forsake_v the_o whole_a world_n and_o all_o our_o carnal_a affection_n which_o any_o way_n hinder_v we_o from_o come_v unto_o he_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v so_o climb_v up_o unto_o his_o majesty_n as_o that_o not_o fear_v the_o world_n nor_o all_o his_o assault_n we_o may_v put_v our_o whole_a confidence_n in_o his_o merciful_a goodness_n and_o bold_o present_v we_o our_o earthly_a affection_n wherefore_o this_o be_v a_o lesson_n which_o ought_v many_o time_n too_o put_v we_o in_o mind_n that_o if_o we_o will_v pray_v unto_o god_n according_a unto_o his_o will_n we_o must_v not_o come_v unto_o he_o with_o a_o desire_n of_o our_o own_o to_o say_v whatsoever_o come_v in_o our_o brain_n yea_o and_o to_o leave_v out_o the_o most_o principal_a part_n but_o we_o must_v begin_v with_o this_o say_n to_o wit_n that_o it_o will_v please_v god_n so_o to_o instruct_v we_o as_o that_o our_o life_n may_v be_v square_v according_a to_o his_o law_n and_o we_o to_o cleave_v so_o unto_o it_o as_o not_o to_o come_v with_o a_o double_a and_o twyfold_o heart_n although_o we_o be_v to_o strive_v against_o the_o world_n and_o our_o own_o nature_n yet_o must_v we_o remain_v constant_a in_o this_o chief_o to_o love_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o for_o this_o cause_n david_n here_o say_v let_v my_o complaint_n come_v before_o thou_o o_o lord_n and_o give_v i_o understanding_n according_a unto_o thy_o word_n when_o he_o speak_v of_o his_o complaint_n which_o he_o make_v unto_o the_o lord_n he_o show_v that_o he_o make_v no_o cold_a prayer_n unto_o god_n as_o we_o many_o time_n and_o as_o it_o be_v daily_o do_v but_o with_o great_a vehemency_n i_o can_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o a_o hypocrite_n may_v very_o well_o make_v complaint_n with_o a_o loud_a noise_n and_o thrust_v out_o his_o weasaunt_n but_o david_n have_v here_o consideration_n of_o god_n mean_v not_o to_o make_v a_o outward_a show_n before_o man_n wherefore_o that_o he_o cry_v out_o aloud_o import_v as_o much_o as_o a_o earnest_a testimony_n wherewith_o he_o be_v prick_v forward_o now_o by_o this_o we_o see_v that_o he_o chief_o desire_v that_o which_o he_o crave_v to_o wit_n to_o have_v god_n to_o instruct_v he_o and_o to_o give_v he_o understanding_n and_o in_o desire_v this_o gift_n of_o god_n he_o confess_v that_o he_o be_v of_o himself_o a_o very_a wretched_a especial_a gift_n which_o god_n bestow_v upon_o we_o when_o he_o open_v our_o eye_n too_o make_v we_o understande_v that_o which_o be_v show_v in_o his_o word_n whether_o we_o read_v it_o or_o that_o it_o be_v preach_v unto_o us._n yea_o and_o let_v we_o not_o here_o make_v any_o exception_n think_v ourselves_o to_o be_v more_o sharp_a witted_a or_o able_a than_o david_n be_v but_o let_v we_o rather_o know_v that_o if_o he_o need_v to_o beseech_v god_n to_o give_v he_o understanding_n that_o we_o for_o our_o part_n have_v as_o great_a need_n so_o then_o it_o can_v not_o be_v choose_v but_o that_o when_o god_n have_v deliver_v unto_o we_o his_o word_n and_o declare_v his_o will_n therein_o contain_v and_o for_o performance_n hereof_o inlighten_v our_o heart_n by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n yea_o they_o draw_v as_o near_o unto_o it_o as_o they_o can_v possible_o fly_v from_o it_o by_o this_o it_o seem_v that_o they_o have_v conspire_v too_o reject_v and_o make_v little_a account_v of_o salvation_n which_o be_v the_o law_n as_o david_n hereof_o speak_v wherefore_o as_o many_o as_o walk_v in_o the_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n say_v he_o go_v not_o out_o of_o their_o way_n we_o have_v in_o this_o first_o verse_n two_o notable_a lesson_n the_o one_o be_v that_o god_n here_o acuse_v we_o that_o every_o of_o we_o stray_v and_o err_v from_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n and_o although_o we_o protest_v that_o we_o be_v willing_a and_o desirous_a to_o be_v save_v yet_o for_o all_o that_o our_o wicked_a affection_n do_v in_o such_o sort_n carry_v we_o away_o as_o that_o we_o desire_v it_o be_v impossible_a but_o that_o our_o life_n must_v needs_o be_v confound_v and_o come_v to_o naught_o he_o say_v a_o little_a after_o bless_a be_v they_o which_o keep_v his_o testimony_n and_o seek_v he_o with_o their_o whole_a heart_n david_n now_o use_v another_o word_n than_o this_o word_n the_o law_n to_o wit_n testimony_n this_o word_n in_o itself_o import_v a_o covenant_n or_o contract_n &_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v otherwise_o than_o to_o be_v ayply_v to_o this_o end_n to_o wit_n that_o god_n covenant_v with_o we_o declare_v that_o his_o meaning_n be_v to_o pull_v &_o draw_v we_o unto_o he_o and_o also_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o order_v our_o life_n because_o cause_v it_o be_v a_o mutual_a contract_n between_o he_o and_o us._n as_o if_o he_o shall_v &_o obedient_a child_n that_o i_o do_v protect_v and_o govern_v you_o and_o that_o you_o be_v my_o household_n servant_n when_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n thus_o abase_v and_o offer_v himself_o unto_o we_o and_o that_o he_o use_v such_o familiarity_n and_o gentleness_n towards_o we_o as_o to_o talk_v with_o we_o it_o be_v say_v that_o he_o give_v we_o his_o testimony_n of_o his_o love_n and_o that_o god_n have_v give_v his_o law_n aswell_o for_o the_o great_a as_o the_o small_a for_o the_o old_a as_o the_o young_a that_o when_o we_o shall_v begin_v to_o be_v teach_v it_o even_o from_o our_o youth_n we_o must_v hold_v &_o continue_v it_o to_o the_o grave_n wherefore_o then_o do_v david_n strain_v this_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n too_o young_a man_n it_o be_v not_o for_o that_o it_o reach_v not_o unto_o the_o age_a but_o there_o be_v two_o reason_n why_o he_o so_o speak_v we_o know_v the_o hot_a affection_n that_o be_v in_o youth_n and_o that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o heat_n in_o we_o as_o that_o it_o seem_v it_o can_v no_o way_n be_v keep_v in_o and_o because_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a matter_n too_o repress_v the_o hot_a and_o exceed_a boil_a affection_n of_o youngman_n david_n especial_o show_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v the_o best_a remedy_n to_o repress_v the_o same_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o young_a man_n be_v recheles_a and_o do_v err_v yea_o like_v unto_o wild_a beast_n which_o cast_v no_o doubt_n so_o hot_a and_o furious_a as_o that_o it_o be_v almost_o impossible_a to_o bring_v they_o to_o any_o good_a pass_n or_o yet_o to_o restrain_v they_o for_o when_o we_o think_v to_o have_v sure_a hold_n on_o they_o then_o be_v they_o far_a off_o but_o if_o they_o shall_v be_v advise_v and_o counsel_v to_o be_v order_v and_o govern_v by_o god_n no_o doubt_n of_o it_o they_o will_v be_v great_o daunt_v and_o although_o their_o passion_n and_o affection_n do_v great_o exceed_v yet_o shall_v a_o man_n see_v in_o they_o some_o modesty_n and_o a_o quiet_a and_o courteous_a behaviour_n the_o mischief_n than_o be_v that_o young_a man_n will_v not_o be_v subject_a to_o god_n for_o if_o they_o will_v they_o shall_v find_v a_o good_a mean_a in_o his_o word_n yea_o and_o the_o same_o very_a sufficient_a to_o remedy_v all_o their_o vice_n and_o it_o tend_v to_o this_o end_n to_o declare_v unto_o we_o what_o virtue_n be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n even_o to_o suppress_v the_o most_o outrageous_a passion_n that_o may_v possible_o be_v within_o us._n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o point_n the_o second_o reason_n be_v that_o david_n his_o meaning_n be_v chief_o to_o show_v unto_o the_o young_a sort_n that_o they_o have_v great_a need_n to_o be_v hold_v short_a for_o otherwise_o they_o to_o be_v brief_a his_o meaning_n be_v to_o advertise_v the_o whole_a world_n in_o general_n that_o we_o ought_v betimes_o to_o enter_v into_o the_o school_n of_o god_n if_o we_o will_v be_v teach_v according_o to_o his_o will_n we_o know_v what_o solomon_n say_v in_o the_o book_n of_o ecclesiastes_n that_o we_o must_v not_o tarry_v until_o we_o come_v to_o old_a wear_v year_n 12.2_o eccl._n 12.2_o &_o then_o to_o remember_v god_n &_o think_v upon_o he_o but_o that_o we_o shall_v begin_v so_o soon_o as_o god_n have_v give_v we_o wit_n and_o discretion_n and_o to_o continue_v it_o unto_o the_o end_n loe_o here_o a_o doctrine_n which_o ought_v thorough_o to_o be_v mark_v of_o we_o for_o we_o see_v from_o whence_o the_o springhead_n of_o all_o the_o excess_n and_o wantonness_n which_o do_v now_o reign_v and_o have_v in_o all_o age_n reign_v in_o the_o world_n come_v because_o that_o god_n be_v not_o obey_v for_o if_o that_o be_v so_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o bridle_n to_o keep_v we_o in_o awe_n and_o in_o good_a order_n so_o that_o we_o will_v suffer_v ourselves_o to_o be_v order_v by_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n if_o we_o they_o will_v humble_v ourselves_o and_o be_v subject_a to_o god_n as_o to_o our_o master_n all_o thing_n shall_v be_v aswell_o direct_v as_o we_o can_v possible_o wish_v but_o why_o do_v we_o not_o so_o the_o world_n forsooth_o will_v not_o obey_v god_n as_o become_v it_o neither_o will_v it_o he_o bring_v to_o this_o reason_n behold_v then_o the_o cause_n why_o we_o see_v all_o thing_n so_o confuse_v as_o they_o be_v so_o it_o be_v that_o we_o be_v altogether_o inexcusable_a see_v that_o our_o god_n so_o offer_v himself_o unto_o we_o &_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o if_o we_o will_v bring_v to_o this_o pass_n to_o suppress_v their_o inordinate_a affection_n and_o lust_n if_o so_o be_v they_o will_v give_v that_o honour_n to_o god_n which_o unto_o he_o appertain_v that_o be_v if_o they_o will_v follow_v his_o word_n furthermore_o we_o be_v here_o to_o note_v the_o exhortation_n which_o we_o have_v already_o touch_v to_o wit_n that_o it_o be_v david_n his_o meaning_n to_o god_n make_v semblance_n as_o though_o he_o have_v no_o care_n of_o their_o wicked_a deal_n these_o we_o see_v be_v two_o marvellous_a dangerous_a temptation_n and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n namely_o why_o david_n have_v here_o recite_v his_o persecution_n which_o he_o abide_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o wicked_a now_o it_o be_v so_o that_o he_o be_v in_o such_o conflict_n have_v to_o fight_v against_o these_o two_o temptation_n which_o i_o have_v note_v show_v right_o well_o that_o he_o remain_v still_o conqueror_n and_o see_v why_o he_o say_v how_o many_o be_v the_o day_n of_o thy_o conscience_n yet_o say_v he_o they_o have_v go_v about_o to_o circumvent_v and_o compass_v i_o round_o about_o we_o see_v then_o that_o david_n have_v no_o small_a assault_n but_o such_o as_o be_v even_o deadly_a that_o it_o be_v without_o all_o question_n that_o he_o must_v be_v utter_o confound_v yea_o &_o although_o he_o never_o hurt_v any_o of_o they_o that_o it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o he_o have_v injurious_o persecute_v they_o yet_o have_v he_o always_o his_o recourse_n unto_o god_n so_o then_o we_o may_v now_o be_v better_o confirm_v in_o the_o doctrine_n which_o we_o have_v and_o lay_v his_o ambush_n to_o induce_v and_o persuade_v we_o to_o come_v into_o they_o what_o say_v he_o do_v thou_o not_o see_v thyself_o forsake_v of_o thy_o god_n where_o be_v the_o promise_n call_v upon_o he_o but_o if_o we_o shall_v have_v do_v so_o a_o hundred_o thousand_o time_n more_o yet_o that_o we_o must_v not_o give_v over_o pray_v and_o call_v upon_o he_o and_o herein_o may_v be_v see_v the_o hypocritical_a deal_n of_o man_n for_o they_o be_v so_o womannishe_o mind_v and_o tender_a heart_a that_o they_o think_v themselves_o too_o have_v wrought_v a_o million_o of_o miracle_n when_o as_o they_o have_v sustain_v never_o so_o little_a adversity_n no_o not_o worth_a the_o value_n of_o a_o hour_n moreover_o if_o they_o be_v over_o load_v with_o any_o adversity_n they_o may_v be_v bold_a as_o they_o think_v clear_o too_o forget_v both_o god_n and_o his_o word_n but_o our_o good_a god_n will_v not_o have_v we_o to_o proceed_v in_o this_o sort_n for_o he_o set_v before_o we_o here_o the_o example_n of_o david_n for_o our_o instruction_n but_o yet_o he_o have_v set_v it_o forth_o untoo_o we_o for_o this_o end_n and_o purpose_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o cease_v to_o continue_v too_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o our_o adversity_n yea_o be_v our_o affliction_n never_o so_o great_a &_o last_v never_o so_o long_o yet_o that_o we_o shall_v notwithstanding_o continual_o persevere_v in_o prayer_n to_o be_v short_a let_v we_o understande_v that_o david_n make_v this_o prayer_n at_o such_o time_n as_o he_o think_v not_o too_o have_v live_v any_o long_a but_o that_o he_o be_v as_o a_o dead_a man_n when_o he_o say_v o_o quicken_v i_o moreover_o we_o may_v see_v that_o his_o constancy_n be_v not_o like_o a_o puff_v of_o wind_n but_o that_o he_o persevere_v and_o that_o we_o also_o must_v have_v recourse_n unto_o he_o if_o we_o will_v have_v he_o too_o accomplish_v his_o promise_n unto_o us._n man_n must_v not_o then_o abuse_v themselves_o too_o look_v untoo_o their_o own_o doing_n ne_o yet_o too_o have_v regard_n untoo_o worldly_a mean_n but_o that_o they_o seek_v for_o the_o same_o in_o god_n and_o in_o his_o mere_a goodness_n and_o free_a gift_n for_o the_o which_o he_o will_v hear_v they_o and_o receive_v they_o also_o untoo_o himself_o in_o the_o end_n david_n protest_v that_o he_o will_v keep_v the_o testimony_n of_o the_o mouth_n of_o god_n now_o let_v we_o not_o understand_v hereby_o that_o he_o have_v not_o keep_v they_o before_o for_o we_o have_v see_v the_o clean_a contrary_n but_o this_o be_v to_o signify_v that_o see_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o affliction_n which_o i_o have_v sustain_v thou_o have_v always_o give_v i_o the_o grace_n to_o persevere_v in_o faith_n &_o that_o i_o have_v continual_o upon_o thou_o satan_n have_v not_o shake_v i_o to_o cause_v i_o too_o do_v wicked_o since_o then_o o_o lord_n thou_o haste_v give_v i_o such_o constancy_n at_o the_o time_n that_o thou_o be_v estrange_v from_o i_o by_o a_o more_o strong_a reason_n when_o thou_o shall_v be_v my_o aid_n and_o succour_n &_o shall_v restore_v i_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o far_o great_a constancy_n to_o keep_v the_o testimony_n of_o thy_o way_n down_o man_n great_o and_o we_o shall_v not_o need_v too_o stand_v long_o dispute_v of_o this_o for_o every_o man_n by_o his_o own_o experience_n can_v testify_v what_o it_o be_v and_o what_o of_o the_o frailty_n and_o fickleness_n of_o man_n as_o that_o nothing_o can_v be_v more_o &_o although_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o there_o be_v some_o strength_n in_o they_o it_o be_v yet_o incontinent_a clean_a parch_a and_o dry_v up_o that_o it_o vanish_v away_o into_o less_o than_o nothing_o but_o he_o conclude_v and_o say_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n abide_v for_o ever_o so_o then_o see_v the_o mean_a how_o that_o man_n although_o they_o be_v transitory_a and_o have_v constancy_n at_o all_o in_o they_o shall_v notwithstanding_o have_v a_o perfect_a constancy_n and_o sure_a merchandise_n &_o cattle_n &_o must_v make_v provision_n for_o this_o and_o that_o in_o like_a sort_n also_o be_v it_o with_o the_o whoremonger_n and_o the_o glutton_n and_o according_o as_o every_o man_n desire_n lead_v he_o so_o must_v the_o tongue_n speak_v &_o every_o one_o apply_v himself_o whole_o to_o that_o see_v wherefore_o david_n add_v that_o he_o be_v continual_o exercise_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n meaning_n thereby_o to_o show_v how_o great_o he_o have_v love_v it_o as_o he_o have_v in_o deed_n say_v and_o now_o we_o see_v what_o thexample_n be_v which_o be_v here_o set_v down_o before_o we_o for_o david_n speak_v not_o this_o for_o himself_o but_o tell_v we_o what_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v if_o we_o will_v have_v god_n to_o instruct_v we_o and_o too_o have_v he_o to_o make_v we_o partaker_n of_o his_o truth_n wherein_o consist_v our_o whole_a felicity_n and_o welfare_n for_o if_o we_o wax_v cold_a &_o make_v no_o account_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n we_o be_v not_o worthy_a that_o he_o shall_v give_v we_o the_o least_o taste_n thereof_o and_o for_o this_o cause_n we_o must_v not_o marvel_v much_o though_o so_o small_a a_o number_n at_o this_o day_n have_v profit_v in_o the_o scripture_n although_o every_o man_n desire_v to_o be_v praise_v and_o esteem_v amongst_o man_n to_o be_v very_o able_a and_o sufficient_a yet_o for_o all_o that_o we_o see_v what_o ignorance_n be_v in_o the_o great_a number_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v good_a reason_n that_o god_n shall_v shut_v the_o gate_n upon_o we_o so_o that_o we_o may_v not_o have_v so_o much_o a_o vice_n to_o be_v within_o we_o we_o ought_v by_o and_o by_o to_o seek_v to_o amend_v it_o and_o beseech_v god_n to_o put_v this_o coldness_n from_o out_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o inflame_v we_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o we_o may_v learn_v to_o prefer_v his_o word_n before_o all_o our_o fleshly_a desire_n that_o we_o be_v no_o more_o so_o much_o shall_v read_v the_o word_n of_o god_n after_o his_o example_n to_o wit_n that_o we_o shall_v get_v thereby_o such_o wisdom_n as_o shall_v defend_v we_o from_o our_o enemy_n to_o be_v better_o learn_v then_o our_o teacher_n and_o those_o which_o otherwise_o shall_v have_v be_v in_o stead_n of_o our_o instructour_n to_o be_v short_a that_o all_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v not_o have_v attribute_v any_o thing_n untoo_o himself_o and_o to_o his_o own_o person_n but_o to_o the_o end_n that_o god_n may_v be_v glorify_v in_o he_o and_o that_o we_o may_v know_v what_o profit_n shall_v redound_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n when_o as_o we_o shall_v give_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o we_o see_v then_o that_o david_n have_v no_o regard_n to_o himself_o but_o mean_v rather_o to_o give_v we_o occasion_n to_o glorify_v god_n and_o beside_o his_o purpose_n be_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o the_o love_n as_o we_o have_v already_o touch_v which_o he_o have_v to_o the_o word_n day_n when_o as_o they_o sing_v their_o mattaine_n prime_n their_o three_o hour_n six_o hour_n at_o midnight_n their_o evensong_n and_o compline_n see_v here_o how_o god_n shall_v be_v well_o praise_v seven_o time_n a_o day_n as_o they_o think_v yea_o yea_o good_a enough_o as_o though_o god_n will_v call_v back_o that_o which_o he_o have_v pronounce_v by_o his_o prophet_n isaiah_n this_o people_n always_o with_o they_o that_o they_o will_v neither_o do_v nor_o yet_o procure_v they_o any_o hurt_n but_o be_v greeve_v and_o sorrowful_a too_o see_v they_o run_v headlong_o into_o destruction_n they_o which_o persecute_v we_o be_v the_o instrument_n and_o limb_n of_o satan_n and_o do_v it_o of_o mere_a malice_n let_v we_o not_o clean_a contrary_n purchase_v they_o any_o hurt_n or_o displeasure_n then_o may_v we_o call_v upon_o god_n with_o david_n know_v that_o he_o will_v never_o fail_v those_o which_o be_v wrongful_o persecute_v loe_o than_o the_o meaning_n of_o these_o
