for_o which_o they_o be_v most_o disquiet_v yet_o they_o dare_v not_o put_v forth_o their_o hand_n willing_o unto_o any_o sin_n present_a i_o have_v read_v of_o one_o that_o be_v so_o trouble_v and_o the_o law_n of_o love_n between_o christ_n and_o you_o thus_o i_o say_v if_o you_o will_v be_v humble_v and_o not_o discourage_v rather_o mourn_v over_o your_o condition_n in_o order_n to_o your_o sin_n than_o for_o your_o sin_n in_o order_n to_o your_o condition_n answ_n 4_o four_o in_o your_o humiliation_n take_v heed_n that_o you_o do_v not_o meddle_v too_o much_o with_o god_n prerogative_n prerogative_n you_o see_v how_o it_o be_v with_o the_o bird_n of_o the_o air_n so_o long_o as_o the_o bird_n fly_v up_o and_o down_o here_o in_o the_o air_n they_o do_v live_v comfortable_o but_o if_o the_o bird_n do_v fly_v up_o to_o the_o element_n of_o fire_n it_o will_v burn_v their_o wing_n and_o they_o will_v fall_v down_o headlong_o so_o here_o so_o long_o as_o a_o man_n in_o his_o humiliation_n keep_v within_o his_o own_o compass_n and_o element_n he_o may_v walk_v comfortable_o there_o but_o if_o a_o man_n in_o humiliation_n will_v soar_v up_o unto_o god_n prerogative_n certain_o his_o soul_n will_v fall_v down_o upon_o the_o earth_n and_o be_v much_o discourage_v now_o i_o pray_v what_o be_v more_o the_o prerogative_n and_o peculiar_a of_o god_n than_o this_o to_o know_v who_o be_v a_o reprobate_n and_o who_o be_v not_o when_o a_o man_n be_v humble_v and_o grieve_v about_o his_o sin_n and_o he_o find_v that_o he_o have_v sin_v much_o against_o god_n and_o thereupon_o he_o conclude_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o reprobate_n be_v not_o this_o â—o_o come_v upon_o god_n prerogative_n the_o scripture_n tell_v a_o man_n indeed_o what_o he_o be_v for_o the_o my_o heart_n be_v too_o high_a than_o i_o consider_v christ_n as_o my_o example_n when_o my_o spirit_n be_v too_o low_a i_o consider_v christ_n as_o my_o gift_n so_o do_v you_o also_o i_o know_v you_o will_v say_v i_o can_v sometime_o present_v the_o lord_n unto_o my_o soul_n under_o the_o notion_n of_o a_o father_n because_o i_o have_v no_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n yet_o you_o may_v consider_v the_o lord_n as_o gracious_a in_o himself_o as_o good_a in_o himself_o and_o love_v in_o himself_o and_o say_v i_o have_v thus_o and_o thus_o sin_v against_o a_o gracious_a god_n and_o although_o thou_o have_v not_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n to_o thou_o in_o particular_a yet_o if_o you_o can_v present_v god_n to_o your_o soul_n under_o the_o notion_n of_o his_o general_a canticle_n 5._o where_o the_o spouse_n say_v my_o soul_n fail_v within_o i_o at_o verse_n 6._o but_o why_o i_o open_v to_o my_o belove_a but_o my_o beloved_a have_v withdraw_v himself_o and_o why_o time_n of_o his_o comfort_n who_o be_v there_o among_o all_o the_o saint_n so_o comfort_v concern_v who_o you_o may_v say_v sure_o this_o man_n will_v be_v much_o discourage_v again_o answ_n 1_o first_o when_o a_o man_n a_o good_a man_n do_v lay_v his_o spiritual_a comfort_n upon_o outward_a blessing_n you_o may_v say_v beforehand_o this_o man_n comfort_n will_v never_o hold_v but_o ere_o long_o he_o will_v be_v much_o disquiet_v and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n labour_v under_o so_o many_o discouragement_n even_o because_o they_o measure_v the_o love_n of_o god_n so_o much_o by_o these_o outward_a blessing_n psal_n 143.4_o therefore_o my_o spirit_n be_v overwhelm_v within_o i_o why_o so_o verse_n 3._o because_o the_o enemy_n prevail_v he_o measure_v god_n love_n too_o much_o by_o these_o outward_a thing_n and_o therefore_o when_o the_o enemy_n break_v in_o upon_o he_o he_o think_v god_n do_v not_o expect_v that_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v humble_v for_o his_o former_a false_a peace_n and_o thankful_a for_o his_o present_a true_a peace_n now_o when_o god_n see_v one_o both_o unhumble_v for_o false_a peace_n and_o unthankful_a for_o his_o present_a true_a peace_n the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v grieve_v so_o it_o withdraw_v and_o the_o soul_n be_v comfortless_a answ_n 3_o when_o a_o man_n do_v raise_v his_o comfort_n only_o from_o somewhat_o that_o he_o do_v find_v within_o himself_o from_o grace_n that_o he_o do_v find_v within_o and_o not_o from_o grace_n without_o from_o christ_n within_o and_o not_o from_o christ_n without_o then_o his_o comfort_n will_v not_o hold_v perpetuum_fw-la est_fw-la quod_fw-la habet_fw-la causam_fw-la perpetuantem_fw-la that_o be_v
